I still don't know why no one sampled, "Hey Nineteen". The intro break is so raw. When that guitar riff breaks the silence, man. It's only a second, but it's raw.
If someone doesn't get their sample cleared, then they can expect to be sued! How would you feel if someone took your creative work without your consent! Back in the day, it was called "biting"! I am a fan of old school hip hop ( check my playlist named Rap Down ). It was Steely Dan's right to not allow the sample to be used if they didn't want to. People need to stop being so damn entitled to everything, expecting to get their way all the time. Steely Dan is a classic rock, pop, jazz group from the 80's. Rest in peace Walter Becker. Uptown, baby!
As much as i loved deja vu, i have to admit that it IS steely dan's song that LT & PG wanted to sample so SD basically had the leverage to call the shots on it. Yes, they did LT & PG dirty but like i said, it is SD's song so.....
See that Shit right is Crazy..100% publishing????? I understand getting big % off the Sample, but them dudes wrote their the song, their lyrics..and that track didn't sell only because of that sample! Bruh man and them made a big mistake to give Steely Dan 100% ..they should worked that all out..
Karceno Peter Gunz already discussed and addressed this issue in an interview he did with Vladtv and everybody that is into hip hop already knows about this situation. So don't act as if you are giving us some secret G-14 classified information.
'Racist'? Bullshit. This has nothing to do with 'race', pal. They simply don't want people using their music w/o giving them credit/payment or whatever - anyone, Black or White, understand? They listened to Black music all their lives - Jazz, R&B, Motown, Soul, Funk. If there's one white band that has been heavily influenced by African American music, Steely Dan are it - how can you say they 'racist'? They've always had African American musicians/singers in their records and gigs (except for their very first tour in 1972. So what if they're not Hip Hop fans? Does that make them racist haters?? No. Just because their music draws from Black music, doesn't mean they 'owe' Black Hip Hop artists anything, just because they don't want to do a Hip Hop collaboration, doesn't mean they 'hate Blacks' or even Hip Hop itself. And here's news for you, they don't like 99% of White Rock/Pop either, does that mean they're white haters too? If you knew anything about Steely Dan You wouldn't write such uninformed, false accusations- They have never 'collaborated' with any other artists, of any race, of any musical genre...That's simply not them.
So basically Karceno says, "I'm gonna take Peter Gunz Wlad interview and make it my own".
SyrTyce man I was about to say the same thing.. say it ain't so karceno
I was Jimmy Iovine. Peter said it in the interview.
Sampling well have yo ass in court. Producers need to be creative of their own sounds
samples are the soul of rap music, when you start to synthesize the sound shits get corny
Marleek Butler *_*WILL_*
I believe it is referred to as "intellectual property"; writers of material have rights...IMO
I sampled PEG to a point where you would recognize it was from the track. The process was A1💪🏾
