I actually lost the first Lacey battle since I wasn't playing the game with overleveled Pokémon or legendaries. I use a monotype bug team. But I guess it makes sense that the good strategies of the trainers in this DLC don't stand a chance against a Mary Sue protagonist's power.

anyways I hate my sibling specifically BECAUSE i've been abused by them and I can safely say Kieran's harmless. The same people who hate him are the same "alpha male anti-snowflake" chuds who got after people like Jocat.
I think villainizing Carmine though is almost as bad a read as villainizing Kieran. She's honestly even more autism coded than Kieran and in all the best ways. She's doing the best she can but that doesn't mean she's doing much of anything right. Both are multifaceted but you put it perfectly when you said how the difference is Carmine's characterization comes at the expense of Kieran's own characterization. The issue isn't self contained, it's metatextual, by which i mean the issue is just that it's a badly written story, and so while Carmine is consistent as a character, Kieran isnt in a way that hurts both his own character and since Carmine's character is dependent on his, still hurts Carmine’s and makes her seems a lot more tone deaf. This is not just made worse by but explicitly EMPHASIZED by how you have no agency in the DLC story from being forced to go along with an obvious lie to not having the option to just let Kieran have the one of a kind mythical he’s idolized and you as the player might not even care much about. It all completely undermines its attempts to then “subvert” the idea that you as the player have protag privilege.
Milky also put it perfectly when he said during the Teal Mask stream that a lot of the issues would be fixed if they just put Nemona+Arven+Penny in instead of 3 randos, so it could continue the dynamic of our friends injecting nuanced interactions into the plot and doing more than just saying Yes/No to everything.Teal Mask in general is just filler/backstory to setup Indigo Disc and that has the issue of making it so it feels really contrived cause it’s all meant to be set in stone with no input. Again it’s a sort of schrodinger’s hell of badly written cause and effect where there’s good characters badly used and neither of the DLCs even has enough content to make the conceptually interesting characters properly fleshed out. But the TLDR is what i said at the start of villainizing Carmine isn’t really much if any better than trying to villainize Kieran, cause both are LikeThatTM because of bad writing not because of any sort of human behavior.
