No accidents, nor moving violations. I am using True Lane by The Hardford. I am consistently being tagged for "breaking" though my hard braking incidents are few and far between. I have even been sited for speeding on True Lane though I do stay withing the speed limit, with a possible exception within 5 to 7 mph for a very short duration. Meanwhile other vehicles are whoshing right past me. Speeding is not digital; it is more like analogue. One who momentarily exceeds the speed by 5 mph should not be treated the same way as an individual who bblatantly exceeds the speed limit by 20, 30, 50, or more mph.
Rachel your comment helps alot. Cornering happened to me like that. I felt the same way and slowed down -- still nothing. In fact it's went a little lower!
Does your rate go up for " bad driving" I have good acceleration on my car...dont use it all the time. But in the city sometimes you have to drive defensively
Drive Easy sucks. As others say it is very inaccurate. It often thinks I’m driving when I’m the passenger. My overall rating is constantly lowering even though when I look at each individual factor they are high. I think this is just a way for them to have an excuse to raise premiums later. My friend works in insurance and she says Geico is notoriously terrible
I just started today! I hope everything goes good with me...l learning with you...they offered me a 10 % less not 25 % less but it is okey nobody had gave me this. Thank you.
I use State Farm Drive Safe & Save app. The one rating that annoys me most is cornering. The only cornering I'm doing is driving into my apartment parking space, or a retailer parking space. this happens 2-4 times a day. I consistently score in the mid - high 80's score each month. Should I keep my phone between my legs while I drive, instead of leaning upward in my cup holder? Where do others place their phone while their driving with their safe driving app?
Just got GEICO. Had no idea I’d signed up for this until they asked me to turn the location to always on. Now I’m trying to figure out how much my insurance will go up when I opt out. I’m absolutely horrified by this
I switched to GEICO about 5 months ago from Nationwide, going from $130/no to $83/no. The DriveEasy app is very similar to the one Nationwide uses. My current score is 91/100. I don't know if that will get me a better rate at renewal or not. The $47/mo savings will keep me with GEICO unless something changes drastically.
It's an interesting idea, but without some sort of dash cam and/or OBD integration these services are essentially just flipping a coin in regards to helping or hurting your coverage rate no matter how you drive, due to the lack of situational context. Unless you plan on gaming it by installing the app to a dedicated phone that only leaves the house for very predictable drives I'd recommend just not bothering with them.
Nov 2022, the app is too sensitive on cornering and braking. Plus what would they prefer, I hit the car in Shreveport that cut me off of slammed on their brakes?! Either way It's still TOO sensitive!!! I drive an old camry and I drive for fuel economy I DO NOT CORNER FAST! Yet I still have a super low cornering score! I can't control what people in front of me do, I give the "2 second" rule for distance and I still have to brake because of idiots. Smoothness is another they they need to actually remove. Am I supposed to ride someone's butt because they're not going the speed limit?! You can't keep a CONSTANT speed EVER unless NO ONE is on the road! Totally set up to fail! I keep an over 90 score so I still get savings but the way it's set up unless you drive 30 even on the interstate and piss everyone off and be a danger yourself the app drops your score like a hot potato!!! IT ACTUALLY ENCOURAGES UNSAFE, UNREALISTIC DRIVING!!!! Tried complaining to geico "well it uses your phone sensors", total bs!!! They need to take off smoothness, and reduce the sensitivity of THEIR app to the phone sensors for braking and cornering!!
No it isn't. I use waze and Google maps. It doesn't not count towards distracted driving. If you unlock your phone or open an app, then yes. Start GPS before driving ofc
It you touch the phone for the GPS. While you’re driving, it will be considered distracted. If you set it before you go and then don’t touch it while you’re moving, it’s fine.
Sometimes it's just ridiculous, doing 35 on a 45 speed limit and stopping on a yellow light gets a hard breaking. So is either get a red light ticket or loose points.
K i tried the app. All my scores are excellent but cornering is a bit low. I blame this on phone compatability. Could also be the app parameters used to calculate the score. Once i had someone pull out in front of me. The app did not count this against me. Still on the fence
Okay I just signed up for easy drive literally today (1-10-23) however after these comments I have mixed emotions. Could anyone elaborate on their personal experience on rather it’s something you encourage or otherwise? Please thank you!
Maybe I missed it bc I was doing things in the background while the video was playing , is there any negative to the app like could they charge you more than the discount if you drive bad or things don’t get recorded well.
So you have to do this driveeasy only for 45 days max and then you can turn it off but still get the discount? Do you have to do this program every 6 months?
I have a score of 102 and I've been using the app for about 1 month now saved my premium I was paying 280$ a month and now I'm at 245$ a month for the opt in discount
I just signed up for this and it dings you! I touched my phone to check in when I arrived at the restaurant to bring my phone for curb side. My phone falls off the magnet holder and I pick it up to put it back before I take it off completely. It dinged me! I'm about to take it off.
This app has WAY TOO MANY rules. Changing lanes often is bad, hard braking, using GPS, ETC. Not for me. I'll be asking for a refund and get another insurance.
The app has been ok, other than the phone usage thing. I plug in my phone to the USB port to listen to the news. It seems as if it says I am using my phone while driving, but I am not. The only other thing that bugs me is that it wants to track me ALWAYS! Why? Why would it not allow me to just track while using the the app while driving? Why does it need to track me ALWAYS?????
I am trying Drive Easy and the problem I have is that the trips are not been recorded. I will like to know if the saving are worth. I have not heard of people getting a great discount.
What if you used 2 phones? It will only track the one has the application. So this is stupid if you have another phone and text and drive from the other one. Or you leave the phone in your house. How will they know?
Im about a week worth of driving on that app I have a 111 geico drive score only issues I have are the cornering other than that everything else works out good.
What I hate about it is that u have to drive so slow. In NYC. Local is 25 but ur allowed to do 30. On the app it puts speed. Also highways is 50. Now we kw we go 60. 65. We drove like old ppl. I get so many ppl beeping honking horns on me. My god I can’t drive normally. Geico should allow us to go 5 mp. More or 10
So I’m curious to know is there a trick to score higher? I live in Chicago and literally everyone drives 50 and up on most major streets. Not saying I do, however my score continuously goes down per day. Just doesn’t make sense. I don’t even use my phone as much and it knows when I have my phone in my hand?
I just recently got the Geico app on my phone with the drive easy thing in it and after reading these comments and listening to your video I am seriously thinking about not using this app because I live in West Virginia and my driveway is about a tenth of a mile long before I even get to the dirt road that gets to the carmack and if they're going to be registering every bump forget it I think I'm just going to get rid of this app. And also I live in an area that's heavily populated with deer and I moved here almost 3 months ago and have had to hit my brakes several times because of these animals. Not my fault what am I supposed to do run them over? And then also State highway 9 which is one of the most dangerous roads in West Virginia is right around the corner from me and there are so many turns and curves. And my phone is very sensitive and always comes on just from a little bit of movement I think I'm going to get rid of this app thank you very much for posting this video!
Why not just download the app on an old phone, get the discount, then leave that phone at home. Plugged in and sitting in a drawer or something? Or better yet just delete the apps off your phone after you get your discount?
I’m so annoyed with this app. I have pulled over to make a phone call. I have gotten to where I’m going and sat in my driveway while I texted people. I’ve sat at an open bridge, or a railroad track, and have used the phone while at a standstill. I’m apparently a horrible driver because I handle my phone while the car is not even moving! Very frustrating
I got this app a few days ago and it’s really picky on my turns. I don’t understand because I always slow down and make a cautious turn but it still knocked me down points. What can I do so this stops?
Did you figure out a solution to this? I'm in the same boat except I need to make a left turn followed by a right turn 3 seconds later on my route back home.
new to Geico and the app. I drive infrequently, sometimes once or twice a week, sometimes not. After the few days of inactivity, I will receive an email stating that the app is not working correctly and if I expect to continue to receive the discount, I need to reinitialize the app. After verifying my information, I then start receiving calls from agents with a quote trying to sell me Geico insurance. Truly annoying. I guess they went with low bidder for development of the app. Another questionable practice is my Drive Easy score will go down overnight while I am asleep.
I'm on my second time trying to sign up in the past year. When I finally go to the app to have them send the code to my phone it says phone number not found.
I am a grandpa style driver, always follow the traffic, the original brake pads on my jeep lasted about 70k miles, how can I have many hard breaking records? To have a better corning score, we have to slow down and turn, however, slowing down then speeding up before and after making a turn would make the smoothness score worse; see the logic here? No matter what, your score will not be good, and they have the excuse to inflate the rate next time you renew the policy.
Drive Easy says my cornering is uncontrolled. I dont know how they determine that since I slow down, keep in the center of the line. The app is still a joke
I live in florida where there is a 3 mile stretch of road with retirement villages on both sides and speed limit of 35 mph. I usually go 40 to 45 depending on different factors. I would love to save with drive easy but I can see this program would cost be money (not save) plus the stress of driving putt putt would drive me crazy.
Geico DriveEasy app is marking me Excellent: Distracted Driving, Hard Braking, and Smoothness, but Uncontrolled (in the red zone) Cornering. Not a chance! Going so carefully and slow around corners you could drink a sip of coffee without a spill. So pissed considering cancelling all 3 policies and moving to another carrier. FU DriveEasy.
If you touch your phone screen while driving if it’s waze or anything else, it will be considered distracted driving. Setting Waze up and letting it navigate while you’re driving shouldn’t hurt your score but if you constantly touch it to make adjustment, it will
The app is accurate you need to understand that most of you are bad drivers. As a truck driver I'm on the road 11 hrs a day. I notice that 6 out of 10 people are driving while using their phone. People are spedding on icy and heavy rain conditions. Road rage is an every day thing. So yall.better stop wondering why we paying to much for insurance. On a separate note get a.dash cam there is a lot of people trying to do insurance fraud. Totally worth it. 👌
This was recently offered to me. The problem I see is any app that needs to change a radio station or song, such as SXM radio app, I need to physically touch my phone to select a different favorite station or genre of music. Another scenario is swiping to answer a call...not going to install it in my vehicles.
I only keep it before I owe a HIGH amount. The discount has over $1k off my payment and even then, what I pay now is so damn much I can't even save money now. I drive roads that are very curvy and can't avoid them in any route and the roads aren't always smooth. If I open my phone with the gps going and not driving and another app is open, it throws me off the podium. But it's mainly the little points they score that I drive every time I go somewhere that is bringing down my score. I hate it SO MUCH! I just completed my first 6 month premium and my payments went up about $100 smh 🤬😭
I moved from Washington state to Tampa Fl and Ive been with Geico several years and last year they lowered my rare for being a good customer for over 7 years. My rate was $90 for full coverage and in Floridan it jumped to $180, I bundled it with renters insurance for a discount and was planing on doing the drive easy but I took the app off a couple days ago before I even started driving because when I was loading the app it not only wanted to track my driving but when I chose driving only it wouln not let move on less I let them track my location when I wasn"t driving. Im now thinking of looking elsewhere for a different company with a better rate.
The app is not really effective as it does not have sufficient data. For example, following distance is one of the most important indicator of how good a driver is. The app cannot take that into consideration.
Don't waste your breathe. This program and other insurance companies are frequently trying to micromanage your driving (acceleration/braking) and using it against you when time comes to renew coverage. The app does not gauge locations. In example: When accelerating at the Highways, the app uses the acceleration as a negative. The discounts relative to what they will slam you with later is not worth it.
It's the fact that gig workers use their own vehicles for delivery. Insurance doesn't like it. Only 3 companies offer it. All state state farm and liberty mutual I think
I only do it like 12 hrs a week and they just told me they wouldn't cover me after I just bought the policy and switched from my other insurance id been with for over a year..now I gotta switch again..in a 6 HR time span...

Wondering about an issue I've noticed with my google nav. Often at stop signs, it still shows 3-4mph while at full stop. I am not going to wait for 0 to show. Could cause roadrage in some drivers behind me.
The drive easy is crap. It’s not accurate and it keeps my score low because of the hours I drive. Not fair because I work at night. My cornering score is not accurate. I corner at 10 mph and the path that I take to work is all highway and none of it is smooth. How is that my fault…not fair
Anyone got any tricks and treats to beat them at their own game? Like I had progressive one down to science. Always had perfect score, didn’t deal with bs
It says my Tesla is a bad driver. This app is a joke. It doesn’t know who is driving and emails me my wife doesn’t use it yet I removed the app and no challenge to me. It’s not worth the little discount to make you do free work for them.
Sounds like they're gaining more than the driver. Marketing data, driving habits, etc... And at the end of the day you may or may not get the discount. Sounds flawed and not real life driving habits.
It takes points off for inconsistent speed if you slow down for red lights and it turns green before you come to a complete stop, if you slow down to go around a curve it gets you for inconsistent speed if you don't slow down for a curve it gets you for cornering. You can't win with this shit

% less but it is okey nobody had gave me this. Thank you.
You are right I just switched to Geico the drive easy is now on the GEICO mobile app.
I’m absolutely horrified by this
did you opt out? if so how high did the insurance end up being ?
I switched to GEICO about 5 months ago from Nationwide, going from $130/no to $83/no. The DriveEasy app is very similar to the one Nationwide uses. My current score is 91/100. I don't know if that will get me a better rate at renewal or not. The $47/mo savings will keep me with GEICO unless something changes drastically.
My score is currently 103 after using it for a month..only paying $70/mo on a brand new 2021 vehicle. So far, so good!
@@ninaj84 my rate dropped to only $61/month after being on the App for 6 months. Loving the savings.
They’re going to increase rates every time you renew. Just like every single insurance company.
Mine has actually decreased in the past two years.
@@geraldokla No it didn't.
What about when you use GPS on your phone? I can’t get anywhere without it. Is it counting toward distracted driving?
Yes it is
No it isn't.

I have 98 out of 100. Discount is phenomenal! I’m saving about $125 compared to AAA Insurance.
My score is 113 after 15 rides. how do you know your's is out of 100?
I just switch to Progressive since my GEICO insurance rate goes up. I have good score on easy driving and has no accident.
Does it know if you're speeding?
What is a good score I can have in order for my rates to get lower??
K i tried the app. All my scores are excellent but cornering is a bit low. I blame this on phone compatability. Could also be the app parameters used to calculate the score. Once i had someone pull out in front of me. The app did not count this against me. Still on the fence
Okay I just signed up for easy drive literally today (1-10-23) however after these comments I have mixed emotions. Could anyone elaborate on their personal experience on rather it’s something you encourage or otherwise? Please thank you!
Don't sign up for Drive Easy it is a pain in the caboose and never logs trips. You only save about $50 a month and it's not worth it!
Btw, you can always opt out. You are not stuck.
I saved about $85 a month signing up for it
Maybe I missed it bc I was doing things in the background while the video was playing , is there any negative to the app like could they charge you more than the discount if you drive bad or things don’t get recorded well.
So you have to do this driveeasy only for 45 days max and then you can turn it off but still get the discount? Do you have to do this program every 6 months?
I believe once you’re past the trial you’re locked In indefinitely. You’ll want to call or contact Geico to confirm that
@@ThinkInsurance - if you power your phone off - can DriveEasy still track your driving somehow?
Not that I’m aware of.
I have a score of 102 and I've been using the app for about 1 month now saved my premium I was paying 280$ a month and now I'm at 245$ a month for the opt in discount
That’s sweet. Let us know how it ends up when you’re drive is done
I'm assuming they count me opening my food apps when I'm in the drive through line? 🤷🏾♀️ That stinks because we use our phones to scan for points.
What if I turned on my spotify podcasts before I started driving, will they point me for it?
No. Not unless you touch your phone to change songs etc…
I just signed up for this and it dings you! I touched my phone to check in when I arrived at the restaurant to bring my phone for curb side. My phone falls off the magnet holder and I pick it up to put it back before I take it off completely. It dinged me! I'm about to take it off.
My cornering says it’s bad but I literally go 5 mph. But every time I leave my house I have to turn left and there is a speed bump so no avoiding it.
How do you notify GEICO ahead of time if you’re going on a trip and you won’t be driving?
I am trying Drive Easy and the problem I have is that the trips are not been recorded. I will like to know if the saving are worth. I have not heard of people getting a great discount.
It's not worth the aggravation. You only save about $50 a month
@@samanthalake5011 $50 a month is $600 a year. My savings were more like $10 a month. I left Geico
What if you used 2 phones? It will only track the one has the application. So this is stupid if you have another phone and text and drive from the other one. Or you leave the phone in your house. How will they know?
They won’t. The app will only run and track on the phone you install it on.
Im about a week worth of driving on that app I have a 111 geico drive score only issues I have are the cornering other than that everything else works out good.
Let us know how it turns out
Any advice to newer folks using the app?
We’re on the same boat here
Very thorough. Thank you.
What if my location is always off or phone is turned off will they track it ?
You'll get kicked off the service and they'll remove the discount.
So how do they distinguish between driving, taking the bus, uber, or riding your bike?
Same way Mapquest or Apple knows. Magic unicorns 🦄 and 🍦 ice cream
the ? is that small discount you get really that important for them knowing how you drive?
Why not just download the app on an old phone, get the discount, then leave that phone at home. Plugged in and sitting in a drawer or something?
Or better yet just delete the apps off your phone after you get your discount?
I personally will it get it. I got a surge change for $350 for 6 months. And is going to stay for one year. Even if you don’t want this option
i talked to geico and they do not deduct anything yet the app is still in test fase
How long do I have to keep this Drive Easy option active? I've been on for about 2 months now
Did you get an answer on this? Is it even worth it? Please let me know.
@@VincentGonz from I see you have to keep this actively on to continue to receive the discount
How does this app work???
What if you drive bad does your insurance go up
It can
I saved 175.00 my rating is doing good so far and I drive a sport car
But I might switch to progressive and I’ll see about the driving safe program
Def!
Make sure you have all the discounts available :0)
I can no longer log into the geico app. Grrr
Either unplug it or delete the app and then call and tell them.
Can I turn off my location to phone to save battery ...but allow the app itself to access my location if it wants?
I got this app a few days ago and it’s really picky on my turns. I don’t understand because I always slow down and make a cautious turn but it still knocked me down points. What can I do so this stops?
Wider, slower turns or just see if it makes much of a difference on your overall points.
Did you figure out a solution to this? I'm in the same boat except I need to make a left turn followed by a right turn 3 seconds later on my route back home.
This app is going to make my payments more then what they would’ve been without.
new to Geico and the app.
I guess I can’t drive easy while in bed.
What happens if i never install the app?
Then the initial discount (I think it’s 10%) falls off and nothing changes
I'm on my second time trying to sign up in the past year. When I finally go to the app to have them send the code to my phone it says phone number not found.
I am a grandpa style driver, always follow the traffic, the original brake pads on my jeep lasted about 70k miles, how can I have many hard breaking records? To have a better corning score, we have to slow down and turn, however, slowing down then speeding up before and after making a turn would make the smoothness score worse; see the logic here? No matter what, your score will not be good, and they have the excuse to inflate the rate next time you renew the policy.
Just got gieco two days ago and I did get drive easy. Went out today and the app said I was on my phone. Nope. I canceled drive easy.
What if I'm riding my lawn mower? Do I not carry my phone?
Lol, it knows. It can usually figure out if you’re a passenger vs driver
@@ThinkInsurance yeah we decided against them don't need a monitor and tracking my movements.
I’ve been on the drive easy program and my premium has been going up every month. My driving is good. This program is incorrectly scoring.
Same here. I've been exceedingly careful and the app is making like I'm a maniac on the corners and stops. Junk.
Couldn't you just turn your phone off while driving?
You can. As long as you drive the specified miles it needs to track.
But what about when you're using Waze or other navigation system on your phone? Wouldn't that be like looking at your text constantly?
If you touch your phone screen while driving if it’s waze or anything else, it will be considered distracted driving.
Setting Waze up and letting it navigate while you’re driving shouldn’t hurt your score but if you constantly touch it to make adjustment, it will
@@ThinkInsurance geez, so now I can't even touch it without someone watching... :0( nothing is sacred anymore. 😉
How do u turn on passenger mode?
It should do it automatically otherwise if it gets confused you can adjust it after the trip is registered
@@ThinkInsurance I think you have to do this after a trip -- there's a way to toggle down to say you were a passenger or you weren't in the car.
yah I'm too scared to turn this on lol even though the ~10% discount is really needed

This was recently offered to me. The problem I see is any app that needs to change a radio station or song, such as SXM radio app, I need to physically touch my phone to select a different favorite station or genre of music. Another scenario is swiping to answer a call...not going to install it in my vehicles.
I do tons of driving how bad are the strikes
I only keep it before I owe a HIGH amount. The discount has over $1k off my payment and even then, what I pay now is so damn much I can't even save money now. I drive roads that are very curvy and can't avoid them in any route and the roads aren't always smooth. If I open my phone with the gps going and not driving and another app is open, it throws me off the podium. But it's mainly the little points they score that I drive every time I go somewhere that is bringing down my score. I hate it SO MUCH! I just completed my first 6 month premium and my payments went up about $100 smh 🤬😭
Can you delete the app after 5 trips so it have your score?
No. I think it’s 45 days you have to be on. If you do delete it within 30 days they’ll opt you out and remove the discount
does the app track you if the phone is off?
No
So if I’m wanting to race I can just turn my phone off lol?
Yes, the stupid app is always running in the back round, and I have to force stop
Great information!
What if I am on a plane?
What if you are riding with a coworker and he is speeding man i just disable it
The app is not really effective as it does not have sufficient data. For example, following distance is one of the most important indicator of how good a driver is. The app cannot take that into consideration.
Can you research the one being offered by credit Karam and USSA INSURANCE thanks
I think Credit Karma searches companies different to everyone. What company did it tell you?
I do have a few reviews on USAA
Don't waste your breathe. This program and other insurance companies are frequently trying to micromanage your driving (acceleration/braking) and using it against you when time comes to renew coverage. The app does not gauge locations. In example: When accelerating at the Highways, the app uses the acceleration as a negative. The discounts relative to what they will slam you with later is not worth it.
I just started and called they said if anything is off with the app they can amend it
Can I still use GPS on my phone?
Yes.
I have to use my phone for driving to deliveries. As in maps. Voice texts. Am I penalized for that?
Voice text would shouldn’t count against you since it’s through Bluetooth
It's the fact that gig workers use their own vehicles for delivery. Insurance doesn't like it. Only 3 companies offer it. All state state farm and liberty mutual I think

No way! That’s crazy!
