It seems to me that one thing which distinguishes this wonderful performance from that of other artistes playing Rach 2, is that Ms. Son is content to play WITH, indeed, almost WITH-in the orchestra rather than insisting on surfing atop it through the force of volume or rhythmic tension. But I should really go back and listen again to some of the others to make sure I'm making a valid point. Nonetheless, I find her approach supremely poetic and lyrical.
She creates a special ambiance, brings music alive in a way you have never heard before.

와 무슨 영화보는줄 알았어요, 너무나 매력적인 열음님과 차가운듯한 우주 공간에 떠있는 오케스트라 연출 같은게 ㅠㅜ 넘 아름다워요. 한여름같은 느낌이기도 하고....... 로맨틱이다 진짜.

정말 좋다 심지어 음질도 좋아서 황홀해
바쁘게 살다 보니 이 명연주를 이제야 봤네. 개인적인 감상으로는 라흐마니노프도 이제 99프로 얻은듯. 3악장에서 곡이 필요로하는 광기의 넉다운 될 정도의 집중력 있는 연주 그 1프로만 채워지면 더 바랄게 없겠습니다. 타건이 묵직하게 심연에 내려앉는, 시베리아의 그 어둡고 황량한 풍경과 막막함이 펼쳐지는 리히터의 명연주보다 날카롭게 날아오르며 빛나는 손열음의 라흐마니노프가 저는 더 좋군요. 손열음은 이미 대가의 반열에 올라섰습니다.

No doubt, this is the best version, with its sensibility and its fragile touch. Yeol Eum Son plays this music as if it was a new open landscape, only seen by her. With a sensitive touch of the piano keys and a virtuosity that in itself is pure magic. For me her version of this Rach 2 is a total revelation.
As I see it, this is the best interpretation I know. Fragile, and yet strong. Hesitating and yet with a demanding force. Shy, and yet with a potential to rule the world.

In addition to Yeol Eum Son's beatiful playing, I love how she claps for the orchestra and conductor at the end of the performance.

After decades of showing off, big sound, slippery on all those scales and rythme uncertainty here comes Yeol. What a fresh air in the star system. She gives back all the beauty and emotion this music deserves.

Yeol Eum Son plays this with such a refined beauty, in total balance and without any kind of unnecessary exaggeration that I am totally fascinated by her playing. And I have to say that my earlier favourite on this, Hélène Grimaud with Claudio Abbado as conductor has to make place for this new uptaking. It is a wonderful harmony about the music and this interpretation by Yeol Eum Son and this orchestra will be my new favourite.

I'm sure there are other good performances of this concerto but I'm now at that age when life's too short to waste my time looking. This, for me, is as close to perfection as I'm ever likely to find.
The only slight disappointment is the lack of audience but it's easy to imagine the rapturous applause that would have greeted such a wonderful all round performance.

This has become my favorite performance of this concerto. Her combination of emotion and articulation is amazing. Some passages are like hearing it for the first time.
Queso concerto si presta a varie interpretazioni.Ad esempio quella di Rachmaninof stesso negli anni trenta di cui ho una registrazione è molto diversa da questa,ma non peggiore di questa ,come meravigliosa è quella di Ecaterina Michetina molto fedele alla partitura dell'autore .Quale delle due preferire dipende dal nostro stato d'animo di quel momento,perchè è questo il bello di una interpretazione la meraviglia dell'essere umano!

I assume this was performed at the Maurice Ravel concert hall in Lyon, the venue where Trifonov gave the greatest performance of Liszt's 12 transcendental etudes some six years ago. What is extraordinary is that the quality of recording and filming in both instances was near perfection. For two of the greatest musical experiences of all time to have happened in the same hall, and filmed and recorded by the same people, is an extraordinary coincidence. As to this performance all I can say, Yeol-Eum, is that it is the best Rach 2 I have ever heard. I have so far heard the concerto more than 300 times:) Thank you.

300 times, wow. How do you keep track, do you note it down? 😅 I'm pretty sure I have heard Wagner's "Götterdämmerung" more than a 100 times but I couldn't keep track, simply because it was so many times.

Big surprise, finding someone capable of interpreting such great and complex piece of music. With so much grace and punctuation. So fulfilling as with Anna Fedorova. Certainly expect to see those 'Viewing' numbers rise quickly into the millions.

Well performed! Ms. Yeol Eum Son's interpretation is excellent, as is her performance. Conductor Scaglione has the orchestra performing with remarkable balance and dialog with the soloist. Both the pianist and orchestra did a fantastic job staying in sync(much harder than it seems with Rachmaninov). Very accurate and enjoyable performance by both the orchestra and soloist!
yeol eum son is perfect as ever but she does it with a perfect orchestra, especially wind section, wood and brass, great!

There is so much to like about this. The music (of course) and the performance (of course), but I am captivated by the staging, the videography and the sound engineering. All is perfect. I've listened to many recordings of YES playing this piece, but, all in all, I think this is the best to date. Thank you so much for putting it up.
