Yeol Eum Son is the most underrated pianist in the western hemisphere, many have not heard her name at all, or cannot spell it (understandable), back in Corea and eastern countries she is a great star. She has matured a great deal through years, and I see her nowadays as a big challenge on all the best, most famous, pianists. And she has of course a big repertoire and have played Schubert, Schumann, Beethoven, Mozart, Rachmaninoff and many others. I myself find her one of the best.
It is very interesting that her name can be translated as Son (meaning "hand" in Korean), Yeol ("Ten" in Korean), Eum ("Note" in Korean). "Hand playing ten notes" - What a musical name she is having. Born to be a great pianist..

저는 손열음만의 독특함을 좋아합니다. 저평가된 피아니스트중 한명이라고 생각해요. 특히나 모차르트와 라흐마니노프를 연주할 때 제일 그 유니크함이 드러난다고 생각해요. 손열음만의 그 독특한 터치를 뭐라고 설명해야 할지 모르겠지만, 이거 분명 피아노 연주 섬세하게 들으시는 분들은 캐치하시겠죠? 손열음만의 이 유니크함은 대체 불가입니다!
맞아요 야생마 같은 느낌 너무 매력있고 유니크함 공감합니다 잡히지 않을듯하면서도 무한할거 같고 자유로우면서도 무질서하지 않는 느낌입니다

일단 조회수에서 저평가되었다는 말씀이겠죠. 사실, 유럽쪽을 보면 손열음보다 못한(제 주관적인 평가지만, 확신하는 바) 사람들의 조회수가 장난이 아니죠. @@user-mq7wl8rq3o

She is mentally prepared to play the piece. Wow! The thickness of each note she played, was full of emotions and relaxed.

들어본 라흐 피협2번 연주들 중에..... 피아니스트와 오케가 가장 마음이 잘 맞고, 하고 싶은 얘기가 잘 들리네요... 오케 발란스도 너무 좋고ㅠㅠ 피아니스트와 음악적으로 주고받는 부분도 완전히 드러나서 더욱 좋고.. 특히 2악장 플룻 솔로, 클라솔로 나오는부분에서 열음님이 솔리스트드를 바라보며 솔로호흡에 함께 호흡하는 부분이 정말 소름돋게 좋아요............. 오랜시간 함께 살아온 부부가 대화하는 연주같습니다ㅠㅠ

이번만큼 제 마음에 꼭 드는 것은 없었습니다
최고의 연주라 당분간 계속 이것만 들을 것 같네요 ㅎㅎ

Her Rachmaninoff-2 is always wonderful!.! Then, it's top level for all condition.
Excellent. Especially, 3rd movement is exiting.
I like this generally more relaxed Rachmaninoff, compared to many others. Yeol-Eum Son gives it the time needed without stressing, making the poetry in this music more obvious, and thereby says: It is not me, its Rachmaninoff. With her playing she shows what a deep insight in this music she has.
The comment above is based on comparing this version with Yuja Wangs version together with conductor Valery Giergiev. Not a bad comparison. As I also like Yujas playing a lot I have to say that I prefer Yeol Eums playing in this. It is generally more calm, even if it also has its crescendos. Of course this is only my personal opinion, but in this forum it is a joy to be able to express such a thing.

@@rockugotcha Yes, a fragrant, finnish garden, long up in the north. 🙂But as a swede I know we are able to grow fragrant flowers also on this latitude.
연주도 연주지만, 표정과 애티튜드 너무너무 멋있다! 진짜 소름돋을 정도. 역시 사람은 자기 일에 열중할 때 가장 멋있는 것 같네요
Her most recent performances of Rachmaninov's 3rd with Inkienen and Deutsche Radio Philharmonie is also very nice. Not rushing, beautiful phrasing, and still powerful touch. I think Son has been stepped up in recent years...

손열음님이 연주하시면 모든 곡의 음 하나하나가 반짝반짝 빛나고 음색들이 너무 다양해져서 더 귀기울여 듣게 됩니다.
내내 감탄하며 봤네요... 이렇게 오케스트라랑 연주자랑 합이 잘 맞는 라피협2번은 처음이에요,, 오케스트라 사운드 진짜 말해뭐해. 댓글들 이미 말한거처럼 합이 딱딱 잘맞고 되게 같이 오래 일해온 사람들처럼 너무 능숙하다.. 그리구 사운드 풍부하다는거 느껴진게 다른 영상들에서는 못 들었던 피치카토나 다른 파트들이 너무 잘들리구 믹싱도 잘한거같은게 피아노가 너무 묻히지도 않고 ㅠ 튀지도않음... 튀어서 거슬리는 연주들도 있었는데... 모든 소리가 조화롭고 영상미까지 있음... 멜로디를 연주하는 파트들 딱 그순간에 비춰줘서 볼맛도 나고; 합이 제일 잘 보이는 3악장에서는 정말 소리지르면서 봤다... 나같으면 저기 잌ㅅ었으면 눈물의 박수를 혼신의 힘을 다해서 쳤을듯... 울면서 따봉!@!!!!! 오마이갓 브라보 했을듯.... 손열음 피아니스트는 또 말해뭐해 ㅜ 손만아파... 너무 정석대로 교과서대로 잘치고 열정적이다.. 미스터치도 거의 안들리고 이 어려운 곡을 쉽게 잘친다 ... 일 잘하는 사람의 특징... 저사람이 일 하느거 쉬워보임... 뭔가 나도 치면 잘할거같음... 하지만 막상해보면 얼마나 대단한지 알게되는거지... 진짜 간지다 저렇게 치고 딱 퇴장하는거 미쳤다 😢😢😢😢😢😢❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Ce n'est pas possible!!!!!MAIS Comment fais te vous pour atteindre à ce degré de perfection ????Ce second Ct° de RACH. ,vous l'avez" extra bien joué "combien de fois" en concert ?? j'en ai déjà 4 versions, et j'ai bien failli ne pas enregistrer celle la! Mon Dieu, Qu'aurai-je fait!!......He bien, comme vous en étiez pour moi la meilleure interprète dans ce siècle, j'en aurai tout simplement.... Raté.... la plus belle de toutes les versions!.....Et s'est aussi la plus lente, chez vous, la plus interiorisé, la plus musicale! !! ... En plus de ça, un orchestre complètement acquit ,Chef en tète, et Hautbois, et clarinettes(fantastiques pour les duos du second Mvt) ! Second Mvt le plus beau que j'ai entendu! !!..... Quand au troisième; il suffit d'entendre les premières phrases, pour comprendre qu'on est toujours au Paradis.!!...

The first and the second movements are since long my favourites, and Yeol Eum Son plays them with all love and respect that is needed. As I understand it: A wonderful interpretation of both solist and orchestra! Warm thanks!
Well, the third movement isn´t so bad either, for example from 25:22. Overall I find Yeol-Eums playing more calm than for example Yuja Wangs, and comparing their versions has made me think that Yeol- Eum is closer to Rachmaninoff than Yuja. Even if Yuja Wangs version with Valery Gergiev also is very good.
소리가 뭉개지지않고 명징하고 짱짱해서 전달력이 상당히 좋음..오케랑 밸런스도 잘맞네요..손열음의 장점이 잘 녹아든 명연! 오케스트라도 참 잘하네요.

Yes!!! I loved that timpani strike! I think it's exactly what such a Maestoso passage needs to jump start. I also liked that it was also the cut to the full orchestra visual, with the timpanist's strike perfectly in the center.
Every time I watch this I love it more. Great music, very fine orchestra, and of course, the unmatched (IMHO) pianistic endeavors of our dear Ms. Son.

피아노 자주 듣지는 않지만, 라피협 2번에 이런 소리도 있었구나 깨닫게 되는 부분들이 있어서 즐거웠습니다. 오케스트라 연주에 녹아들지 않는 입자가 굵은 소리라고 할까요. 바삭바삭하게 알갱이가 씹히는 것처럼 오케스트라 위로 뛰어오르는 부분들이 있어서 좋았어요. 곡 해석엔 정말 끝이 없네요
오케스트라랑 정말 호흡이 좋았던 연주네요. 자주 듣게 될 거 같아요.. 손열음님도 라흐마니노프 앨범 좀 하나 내주면 좋겠습니다. ㅠㅠ

This is an entirely new approach. Not since Richter's landmark recording of #2 have I heard this old saw played with such originality. And with the originality comes technical perfection. I love listening to Yeol Eum Son. So unpretentious, beautiful expressive playing. So many wonderful South Korean pianists and Yeol Eum Son is at the top.. Together with Yunchan Lim, another favourite of mine..

이 오케스트라 어디죠?? 양인모 바이올리니스트 시벨리우스 경연에서 우승할때도 이 지휘자, 이 오케스트라였는데 너무 잘하더라구요.
시벨리우스 바협은 오케스트라랑 잘 안맞는 공연도 많아 매번 양인모 바이올리니스트와 이 오케스트라와 협주한 버전으로 돌아오게 되더라구요.
특히 3악장에서 지휘자님의 지휘에따라 단계별로 커지는 웅장한 부분 들을때마다 소름..
이 협연에서도 손열음 피아니스트님과 오케스트라 정말..최고네요

I am lucky enough to have been following and listening to Yeol Eum Son for many years now, and she is fabulous. Her interpretations are very personal, and so every time you listen to a new performance of even the most oft-performed pieces they always sound new. To be fair, I also love Yuja Wang and her showmanship, and she probably gets more headlines, but Son deserves to be ranked tight there among the modern best.
I think this video proves Son > Wang
Oh I think Wang is easily surpassed. This pianist is in a league of her own.

She plays not as a "piamist" but as a "musician". And sometimes she seems a musician even better than Rachmaninoff himself.
I find his choice of a "slow tempo" for the first movement extraordinary, because it releases all the lyrical power of the melody.
Perhaps not the best possible choice, but if there weren't this interpretation, something would be missing from music in the broadest sense.

오케스트라와 피아니스트의 찰떡 궁합! 둘 사이에 궁합이라는게 있다는걸 첨 느꼈습니다! 오케스트라가 한 사람이고, 피아니스트가 한 사람이 되어 둘이서 추는 춤이란 느낌도 들었습니다 역시 협주곡은 협주곡으로서의 의미가 있군요! 많은 오케스트라 단원이 어찌 한 사람이 연주하는 듯한 호흡을 주는지!
피아니스트만 보이는게 아닌, 정말 동등하고 평등한 주체로 오케스트라와 피아니스트가 주고 받고 하다가 끝내 하나가 되는 느낌. 피아니스트 조차도 오케스트라의 한 단원인것 같다는 느낌조차 듭니다ㅠ
듣는 내내 편안~~~합니다!
