Thanks so much yall. I'm glad you are digging these videos. I appreciate the support.
these videos are so fun and informative! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and just being cool about it. Also LET'S GO YANKEES!
Do the difference between a fender wide range humbucker vs a standard humbucker. Not sure why the scotch would be offensive but people get offended if you sneeze the wrong way these days
You are so correct about not being responsible for what offends other people! I wish more people had that attitude!
Everyone should be willing to press on with what they think is right without concern of someone being "offended".
Great info!
love it learn something new every video
Anychance you could do something on single coil sized humbuckers? Like the duncan rails or the single coil sized dimarzio super distortion
I would love to see you talk about the "Charlie Christian" pickup and the modern versions of it.
Thanks
p90 vs humbucker sized p90s - idk if theres enough to discuss for a video, or maybe something on the danelectro pickups
Yessss! I just slapped a pair of humbucker size P90s in a Epiphone Special ii. Not at all perfect but sounds way better than the stock pickups.
@@imalright2837 ah nice. I did a demo of the Iron Gear H90s on my channel if you wanna check it out
Be interested in a teardown/analysis of "gold foil" type pups.
I'm in as well. I've had a few and two of them were near perfect on everything I put them on including resonators. The other was only fantastic.
I've always wondered why. They are so simple and built to a price point using ceramic magnet and bent 'steel'. Is simple better? It isn't magic.
0richbike Me, too! Got my first guitar in the summer of ‘66 - a Strat copy made in Japan under the Victoria name - and when I killed the guitar (neck snapped,) I saved the electronics. Gonna put ‘em in a Glarry and see how it sounds. They are “gold foil” pickups. Should be interesting, and if they sound good enough, they’ll probably end up in an Ibanez, as long as I don’t have to rout the body. (Been buying Glarry so I can teach myself fret dressing, electronics mods, etc., without endangering my babies, and the maple necks from Glarry are actually amazingly nice; by themselves they’re worth the price of admission. Lotta potential there.) It’s a good time to be a guitarist, ain’t it?
I’d also like to find out more about gold foils and Filtertrons
@@ToddtheExploder it is.
ToddtheExploder one major difference I noticed in my Teisco guitars (one Kimberly and one Kingston) is that they are some of the most microphonic pickups I have ever come across. Microphonic pickups can sound great, it add some of the acoustic resonance of the guitar into the signal sent to you amp. This comes from not dipping the coil in the pickup in wax, and maybe from the somewhat loose (in my guitars anyway) bit of foil hanging out in front of the coil that can vibrate.
So my main suggestion to people who want this sound, look for pickups that aren’t potted. There’s the disadvantage of dealing with feedback, but that’s one reason why I have a ton of very different cheap guitars.
Thank you for putting the "Firebird" humbucker into this video.
Yes! Now what about stacked humbuckers vs noiseless vs lace sensors.
And (hot/double) Rails too.
Do scotch-wound and caffeine-wound pick-ups sound significantly different?
The coffee-wounds are more likely to actually work...
Sooooo...... what's the difference between a P90 and a P100?
Single-coil sized humbuckers are often erroneously referred to as mini-humbuckers. Totally different animals although (in a certain sense) they are indeed miniaturized humbuckers and more importantly.....it's a mouthful to say "single-coil sized humbucker".
Your observation is at once, astute and profound. : )
Really good explanation. Our lead guitarist, now deceased, had an a '61 Epiphone with mini- humbuckers. It sounded great!
Sightly brighter sound. I , we all , just loved his sound and him.
The Firebird was introduced in 1963, at the height of pre-Beatles instrumental rock music (most of which
were being performed on Fenders), and I've always felt that Gibson was hoping to cut in on that market
which is why they decided to go with mini-humbuckers for a more single coil sound. I can conceive playing
surf rock on a Firebird (I do it all the time). A Les Paul, not so much. It just doesn't look (or sound) right.
people get offended over scotch, Really!!!
Crazycook678 we live in the “era of outrage”. people look for things to be offended by. such as a person enjoying a nice single malt. 🙄
Scotchy Scotchy Scotch.
Hey Dylan I don't know if your a bourbon man but give the Four Roses small batch it's a really good tasting bourbon poured Straight Up or On Ice. As for the coffee I was told there's this really good coffee that is from out of Cooperstown called Stagecoach . Don't know if you've ever heard of just thought I'd throw that there's an idea my mother said she liked it and she's a coffee Junkie. Thank you for your work.
The pickups you find on Epiphone guitars around the time Gibson bought the company are NOT mini-humbuckers. They are "New York-style" single coils which look similar to mini-humbuckers, but they are not. The mini-humbucker was invented by Gibson a couple of years after they had bought Epiphone.
Dylan please drink whatever you want. I love you videos and have learn alot since I discovered your channel. If youh haven't talk about it yet in another video, can you talk about filtertron pickups or filtertron's vs humbuckers.
Mini humbucker is the most unsuccessful pickup variant. It was supposed to be a replacement for the P90. but the P90 is an icon of rock sound even today!
I need a scotch Sponsor too but because I drink to much scotch. That's what they are called right ,the aa guys. Scotch Sponsor.
Hi Dylan,
Just wondering, will you do a video about the difference between Alnico and ceramic magnets in pickups?
Ha, Ijust found you already did this 4 years ago...
ua-cam.com/video/cM8qyoOJhmo/v-deo.html
Is a Diamarzio X2N similar to a fire bird humbucker design wise???
I had a Melody Maker with a mini. wish I kept it.
Me too. A '59. Best guitar I ever owned.
It would be cool to learn about the different kind of Gretsch pickups, like how a dynasonic is different from fender single coils, and how filtertrons are different from humbuckers.
When I earn my teaching credential, I'm gonna have someone build me a silver sparkle flying v with supertron pickups, and a fuzz circuit built into it like norman greenbaum had in his tele. It's gonna be freaking epic. That's kind of why I'm curious about their construction and components. Also, my favorite bourbon is Colonel E.H. Taylor bottled in bond by the buffalo trace distillery. Try it if you haven't. There's definitely an emphasis on oak and baking spices in the flavor profile. It's not overly sweet like other bourbons. Nice for the winter.
Would you be able to do a video on explaining the Ampeg mystery pickup? I'm thinking about building an ampeg AUB soon, and I'd like to wind my own version of the mystery pickup, but I'm not 100% sure on how.
I'm starting to get the feeling that, how pickups work, and the differences and subtle nuances between all of the many types of pickups, is a topic so great that you could stream a clinic 24/7 virtually forever, on the topic. Thanks for the awesome content, Dylan, even if I have to keep backing up and rewatching it several times to fully comprehend, due to my severe ADD. The detailed yet approachable way you explain stuff inspires me with confidence in your expertise. I always end up feeling smarter and more informed about cool shit that interests me, afterward.
Edit: @7:42-7:46 The importance of branding! 👍😎
Dylan...love your stuff. Future video suggestion: How does the strength of a pickup affect tone? I have pickups that measure 15k that do not seem as powerful as ones measuring 8.5k. Are there other factors at play?
Mark Zanoni Yes. First of all, measuring the resistance of a coil of wire isn’t a good or perfect way to predict the output of a pickup. I don’t talk about the ohms of the windings on my transformer when I say that I have a 5 watt amplifier. No, I use watts.
That said, when comparing two pickups by the same manufacturer which probably use the same pickup structure, same magnets, the same diameter of copper around the bobbin-same everything else, then you can use the ohms to estimate how many windings each pickup has. That, in turn, can be an easy way to make an educated guess of the resulting power a pickup is capable of producing. But once you start comparing different pickup manufacturers, different models from the same manufacturer, or a Gibson pickup from 1950 verses a Gibson pickup from 1980, measuring the resistance in a coil of wire stops being a good way to compare pickups. Instead, I think there should be a new standardized way to test and advertise the output of a pickup, where by a pickup is put in a fixed standard position in front of a specific gauge string tuned to a standard frequency, and plucked by a robot with a specific amount of force. This would be used to calculate the wattage, amps, and volts. Things that matter. There might be a better way of doing this. It’s just an idea.
Second, how people perceive sound is not linear. Loudness is not linear. Which frequencies seem louder than others is not linear. Bass is perceived at different levels than high frequencies. This is why old hifi amps have a loudness eq button so the music can sound more normal at lower volume settings. I digress, but if you want to know more: www.physics.mcgill.ca/~guymoore/ph224/notes/lecture13.pdf
How does that relate to pickup design is that in general when you wind a pickup less it tends to be a brighter pickup that can’t put out as much low frequencies. So while it might not be able to drive your amp as hard, it can still “cut through the mix”. When you make a “hotter” pickup with more windings (assuming all else is the same), you increase the ability for the pickup to produce more of everything, especially what I have perceived to be more mid range and lows. This will drive an amp nicely and will work better for certain kinds of music, and may be not so great aesthetically for others.
Clear as mud? I didn’t even get into how the strength of the magnets can affect it, but I think this post is long enough.
@@jonnda interesting man, thanks for the post. I wondered before about ohm readings having little to do with the actually volume output of the pickup.
So glad you didn't apologize for the Scotch. I'm an Oban guy, but when it's cold, I'll take an Islay all day! Great vids on pickups..informative and generous. Thanks!!!
Very good breakdown! It should be mandatory for all guitar players to watch this before being allowed to post on forums! ;) I'm sick of all the misinformation out there. Also, I second what you said about the mini humbucker in a tele neck position. Killer tone!
How does the P-90 differ from the Charlie Christian pickup, and what is the significance of the 'staple' pickup?
Also: what makes the Fender XII pickup different from their others?
Love this series of videos. Now, how about them "gretsch"-style pickups? the filtertrons and such. Are those substancially different from normal mini humbuckers?
Would also love to see that
Please do a video on how humbuckers buck the hum.
Reverse polarity. Like 1 - 1 = 0
@@j.a.s.1416 I actually want more detail than that. I know it's RWRP. The wind and the polarity have to be reversed else the induced voltage from the string would cancel. The reverse wind cancels the hum. I want some real details though.
@@DesertScorpionKSA Ah I see. Wasn't being sarcastic just trying to help a fellow UA-camr..... As far as details go I love science but keep it simple with guitars. Have a hard time getting better playing, let alone the physics of pickups. But they are fascinating and can't get enough of P90's in my life....
Do your Thing Bro Awesome videos
lol I was literally looking for this topic on your channel earlier today and it appeared this evening!
Great stuff, would still like to see a comparison of the G&L type pickups vs the original Leo fender designs, and a bit of explanation of how Z coils work and what the pro's and cons of constructing a pickup like that would be.
Hey, just found this channel, love it.
I got two hypothetical questions, and both are a bit impractical (I think), but sounds fun to talk about:
On this video: what would a mini Firebird humbucker sound like, if you'd coilsplit it?
On an other one; what would a humbucker made from 2 P90's sound like?
What about the hot rails type pickups that go into a tele or strat are they actually humbuckers?
Let the man drink his scotch and don't live life so easily offended lol
👍🇩🇪
Make a video on Christmas day and call it Bah Humbugger!!
You have the first set of technically sound and adequately indepth guitar tech videos that player need bro..forget the hate...let the critics make better videos if theyd like to give it a try.
As for the scotch...who gives a sh!+ what ur drinking in the vids.its all good.your videos are awesome bro.All the way from tiny Trinidad in the Carribbean🤘
It would be fun if you had little pixie people dancing around in the driveway behind you. Love your videos!! Thanks for all that you do 😃
hi dylan would you make a video about alumitone type pickups and how are they made?, thank you!
I'm curious.
Great video!
Firebird pickups for the telecaster, is that possible?
Common in the neck and middle positions on custom Telecasters and Telebird/Firecaster things.
Maybe single-coil humbuckers vs normal humbuckers and mini humbuckers?
Thanks for clearing up the differences of humbucker pickups. I was wondering which pick-up has the most string pull? Could it be the P90? THX
Thanks for these videos Dylan, they're fantastic. I'd love to hear more about the construction of wide-range humbuckers, and those string-through lapsteel pickups: The ones that Ry Cooder puts in bridge position of his guitars.
Thanks
Scotch it up ! Cheers !
Does Seymore build his mini humbuckerd by stacking 2 coil vertically?
And how does thus change tone output?
Had 67 gibson firebird 12 string acquired from Bajer Saunders 1970, later of Mad season fame. Unfirtunatelly my brother stole thus guitar .
So just acquired [20D loaded strat pickguard with 3 Seymour antiquity Texas mini humbuckecrs, with cil spilt options and 7 way polyphonic switching all 3 at once in or out of series any combo, with without adding coil spilt.
As fifty years plus never played single coil so always hums, can't get use to using single coil sounds, though do like strart neck mid C shape with 25 1/2 " with 9 " radius add some minis heaven right, nit to diss you that learnt mastered single coil sound, some best past music 70 years been on them.
So Fair warning :
Momma's don't let ur babies learn just buckets unless you want a Johnny Winters
You can tell the age of people based on them calling these pickup Humburckings or Humbuckers. Old guys like who have been playing guitar 55 years call them Humbuckings. Younger guys call them Humbuckers.
Great video! Question, probably been asked an answered. Is much sonic difference between a regular soapbar P90, dogeared and or paf/humbucker size P90?
Dude you had me at coffee scotch and bourbon. Love how you did the video kinda outside as if a friend had just caught you on a walking path and said “ hey bro, can I ask you a question about mini humbuckers?” Very cool. Liked and subscribed.
Hi Dylan. I want to know whether the quality of the copper used in the winding affects the overall pickup behavior. if yes, how?.. Cause I have seen pink looking copper winding in pickups, and people say is pot metal mixed copper; i've also seen brown looking copper in pickups, which most people consider to be pure.
Thank you for the great info and your wonderful work bringing tone to guitar enthusiasts, just small notice regarding mini humbuckers Epiphone used New Yorker single coils first then Gibson when acquired Epiphone to make sure they win win either you sell Gibson or Epiphone they came up with the idea of having equivalent models with some differences anyway 1960 to 62 Epiphone mini’s exactly same wire slugs and construction as the bigger ones from Gibson even same sticker in the back and nearly 1.2 mm deeper, I know coz I have one from 1960 planted in bridge position in my 79 deluxe and it’s totally different sounding than the 70s ones also hotter reading
I put a set of Firebird pickups into an Epiphone Crestline. They turned it into a completely different guitar. For the better. The ChiCom mini humbuckers I thought were nice until I compared them with the USA mini humbuckers as installed in the 150th anniversary Crestline. A decision was made then to make my Crestline a different guitar. It’s a drop in mod.
I have the mini's in my 1980 Les Paul XR II.
Im learning a TON through your channel. Keep it up! You know any knowledge to share about bass pickups? Jazz Vs. Precision? Stingray Vs. Jazz?
1939 Les Paul "Log Guitar" ...stacked humbucker...
Epiphone Firebird: Do they make mounting hardware for going from a full-size humbucker to a mini-humbucker?
Yes Dylan You never mentioned how many turns on the two different types of mini humbuckers have? Thank you for your videos.
It varies based on the brand.
Gibson of coarse.
i want my tele sound more thicker but with sparkle , so should i use firebird type neck pickups ?
You should NEVER drink Scotch in a video. The smoky flavor of Scotch is disgusting. Next time, drink Bourbon.
The Firebird pick up more like a P90 P90 have two magnets
Hello, just bought a set of 3 Wilkinson Firebird style mini humbuckers on Reverb. Can you recommend electronics values for pots and caps?
I'm curious as to the effect of wiring pickups directly to output jack. Bypassing all pots and switches. I have 20 guitars and not one do I adjust the volume and particularly the tone from wide open. Would I get full treble or full base or ?
excellent!! I wonder if you can talk a bit ´bout the JOHNNY SMITH STYLE HB, the one screwed to bridge please!!!
Try Leopard Forest coffee. Cousin used to own it, since retired, roaster bought her out. Beans come from her husband's family farm in Zimbabwe. Delicious coffee, very reasonably priced.
You explained the different types of Mini Humbuckers, but what about the ones where there are screws on both sides, like the Gretsch type mini humbucker, TV Jones TV Classic, or the IPM Italia Modena Challenge Mini Humbuckers??
You drink Scotch?! Knew I liked you! I have always had this question in my mind. You almost touched on it here but covered it in the neck/bridge and reverse wound middle single coil like a Strat. But, there is coil separation there. Why cant you make a two coil system sound like an authentic single coil when split? We want the best of both in a single guitar. Single coil when split, hum when not. Not an engineer but have heard the signal negates itself if you put them close enough together. That true? PRS hadxa 5 single coil system but they looked like active single coils or Lace types. Thought idea was cool but couldnt afford it.
You can’t forget Ray Butts. He was making humbucking the pickups for Chet Atkins in 1955 that became Filter’trons. I think Butts and Lover was working on dual coil pickups about the same time. Butts said he got the idea from tape heads a German company was using to eliminate hum.
Hey, I have a Epiphone Alleykat, which has a minihumbucker NY the neck and a humbucker by the bridge. If I would flip the magnet on the mini would I successfully get that Peter Green out of phase tone?
Thanx!
Have you done any videos about mismatched coils in humbuckers ? I have a pair of older DiMarzio minis that have a 6k/10k imbalance, which I want to experiment with as far as splitting, tempted to use the SD switching HB frames, but here’s the question: why so big a difference? I assumed that Larry had some old mismatched PAFs that he thought sounded cool, but do you have any comment on that?
... 02/16/2020: What about Fender noiseless pickups? Some people say they are not true single coils, but actually humbuckers. What do you think?
I don't know about non-firebird minis but Epiphone firebird pickups are a great-sounding humbucker! for the low-chugging stuff, I find they're not that different than a regular-sized humbucker maybe just a little tighter. but on the high notes they really sound different I can hear a higher octave over tone in there! my favorite bridge pickup all day long but it has to be the Epiphone kind I've never tried the Gibson one but I heard they're not the same. the Epiphone ones are hotter

Hey Dylan how are ya? I received a mini HB for free some time ago and haven't done anything with it yet because I figured it was probably just a cheapo, and not worth much let alone my time. Well, last weekend I decided that since I have a pickguard that came with the pup, and some extra pots and switches for testing purposes, I didn't have much to lose by trying it out. So, after all was said and done, I plugged into my Blues Jr. and was actually rather impressed. It sounds pretty damn sweet. Not like an HB or a single, but more like a fat and slightly hotter single. Anyways, I wanted to know more about it, but cannot find any info on it. The only marking (X-Sound) is stamped on the brass baseplate. It has a solid chrome cover with no holes or exposed pole pieces, and no pole pieces protruding through the baseplate. It has a single lead with shielding beneath the exterior sheathing. Not like the vintage type exterior braided sheilding. The DCR of the pup reads ≈6.47kΩ. That's all I can tell you about this mini hb. Now I'm wondering if there's anything you can tell me about it? Who is X-Sound? What are the specs of this pup? I wanted to wire it to a 4-way with the bridge for series in my tele, but I didn't want to go through the hassle of desoldering and removing the cover to give it its own ground if the pickup isn't worth it. I'm not assuming you can definitely answer my ?'s, but maybe you can or can find out. Maybe someone else on here will know? Thanks for any help you may have?
I would like to know how a Firebird style (bar magnets) in a standard Humbucker size would sound - brighter than the original Humbucker?
Hi I have a comment from your which pickup should I choose video..... Hey Dylan love the videos... so I play a cheap as f...epiphone special 2 a friend and I split the coils but those humbuckers still don’t sound clear enough for me , generally I like hearing my mids and I don’t like that razor sharp Tone from the top two strings. They always sound off like they are actually sharp even thought every tuner I can find say the are in tune. What would you recommend? Ps I usually play with the neck pickup or both very rarely the bridge by it self, through a mod plus amp I built from their kit I think it’s 8amps out of a 25watt mod Jensen speaker. I built my own little practice combo with with the kit. I often run just a little blues driver for dirt and sometimes the boss my 2 when I want to learn megadeath or g n r songs but I’ll switch right over to songs by Tracy Chapman or Gordon lightfoot. So I’m all over the map with tone/ sounds. Help. :)
I know this is an old video, and maybe you have answered it, but what is a single coil sized humbucker, vs a single coil, vs a humbucker?
Whats the tonal difference between a musicman pickup and the double jazz "humbuckers"?
Scotch??? I love Campari, I'm offended! lol. Seriously??? People have been offended by you drinking scotch on a video? Wow!
For a more serious question, so do you think of a typical hot rails pickup as being kind of a mini firebird then? Or are there significant design differences other than overall dimensions?
Thanks again for all the content and info!
If I'd only new when owned my 67 firebird 12 string.. Question now is whats difference between mini humbuckers
and dual rails humbuckers fir single coil holes? What would strat sound like with 3 mini humbuckers or dual rails?
Late 50's Gibson electrics sounded great - still do. By the mid 60's, Gibson electrics sounded like crap, in my ever humble opinion. How do I know that? I was there. I am that old. And, yes I have owned both. Is it the PU's? Is it associated electronic components? I don't know. I am no longer into electrics. I have one left, a 67 SG - a pain in the neck.
I really just wanted to know which one was brighter and less muddy. That’s it. I don’t care about the construction, the history, coils, pulls...I don’t give a shit about how it’s made. Which one is cleaner and which one is muddier. Really wish he would have just started with that.
Nevertheless I am grateful for all this information I will never remember or even care about. Even for me, the details are appreciated.
Gibson Firebird was built to compete with the strat, hence why Seth Lover designed them to be bright, adjusting screws were added to the PAF because salesman wanted a selling point, adjusting screws are useful but not needed, Ray Butts invented the Filtertron humbucker pickup before the PAF. So I agree that the magnets in mini humbucker make the difference in sound compared to the PAF type, but the strat sized humbucker sounds exactly like the big PAF. So the coils being closer? Not sure that has anything to do with the sound difference
I have a Hofner Colorama 2 with P90's and I also have a set of Symore Duncan Antiquaties 2 mini hum buckers that should be able to drop in to the routing. I wanted to ask your opinion on having 1 p90 and 1 mini hum bucker. Is it worth it?
Do they make a double humbucker but not with poles but with the slug like what's used in a mini humbucker? What kind of tone could you get if you did the same with a double humbucker as they did with the mini's, one with poles and slugs and one with just slugs. If there is no such beast, well Dylan, get to making some and let us hear them lol. As for the older PAF's being better, of course they were better Dylan!! You seem to know a lot about this stuff and you don't know that the older PAF's were much much MUCH better than anything newer? What makes them so much better you might be asking? That answer is quite simple, because they are older and have they just gotta be better cause those older ones are so romanticized!! Lol, yes I am being sarcastic with you about this! But that actually is why most people think those older ones are better, because they are old and everyone always says how great they sounded. I guarantee you that if you took two pups and made them with the same materials that were used in say the 50's and stuff used in 2019, if there was much of a difference the 2019's would probably sound better.
Can you recommend any mini humbucker set that retains the low end close to humbucker (for firebird)? Thanks for the video. Much appreciated!
I hope to offend you:
I don't like the Yankees, my favourite team are the Giants. I prefer NL over AL in general.
National league or nothing!
The DH is such a bullsh!t position.
Giants, team of the 2010's!!!
Achim DG Giants For Life!
Dylan, you need to visit Australia for some first class coffee. Come on down.
How can I replace the mini humbuckers for p90s on a epiphone uptown kat? What doI need? Is it necessary to cut the top of the guitar? Do I need to change all the electronics? Does soap bar and dog ears sound different? Thanks a lot
Anybody who has played with regular buckers and then the mini ones knows the vast difference.
Now I understand why you talk so much. I once criticized that in one of your videos, but someone has to explain the mess of others; and you are an expert. Thanks! Of course, I'm still subscribed.
Weird question. What happens if you reverse the magnets? I ask because I recently bought a set cheapo humbuckers because that was cheaper than buying just the bridge humbucker. Since I'm not using the neck humbucker I took it apart. Put it back together and dont know if I put the magnets in right, will it sound any different?
What wire gauge range is acceptable for wiring pickups, and how does the gauge affect tone/the electromagnetic properties?
Yeah. I just read or heard about Charlie Christian the other day, can't remember where but I'd love to know more. I'd love to know more about all the old ideas that got left behind too. There's a guy called Tom Doyle who was Les Paul's right hand man I've been told, I'd love to know more about him. I'm always interested in the plan B's. All those ideas that someone was working on before someone else cracked it and closed the race down. What was the guy Seth Lover beat to the prize doing?
What is the triple coil pickup in early 80's all about? Eddie Martinez from Run DMC jammed on that for a while. How do the poles, screws, and magnets work with the whole phase thing work in that one?
Still want to see about Fitertrons. On the subject of vintage, could you talk about what difference age has to do to a new VS old with the same materials? What would the difference in performance of a Humbucker with steel VS iron poles or bars?
As far as drinking in your videos, I don't like coffee, but it doesn't offend me to see you drink it. I don't care if you drink scotch/bourbon in your vids(I do like those, lol), as long as you haven't drunk enough to be tipsy and affect the video. Keep up the excellent vids.
@DylanTalksTone hi Dylan, kind of a stupid question but I was wondering - if I took a humbucker, connected the two coils in phase and in series, will it be something like a noisy af single coil?
Are mini humbuckers and Firebird pickups the same size? I want to fit Firebird pickups into a guitar routed for mini’s. Will that work?
Most people seem to elevate their assumptions about Alnico pickups. What about the top brands like EMG Bartolini and DiMarzio that use a lot of ceramic magnets?
Are they considered cold sounding, and what does that really mean -- what do you think is the real difference in tone if they were done in the same regard and every other manufacturing step?
I have a Hoffner Colorama 2 with P90's. This guitar comes with either P90's or Mini Hums. I wanted to know if it makes sense to switch out one of the P90's with a mini hum. Thoughts??
Are the Mosrite P-90 looking pickups identical to P-90 pickups?
