I posted a comment on the original video but it went unnoticed. I just corrected some parts of the physical geography segment. - the mountain relief consists of 3 mountain ranges: Dinaric Alps (west) Carpatian-Balkan mountains (east) and Rhodope mountains (south and central) - if you include Kosovo and Metohia, the highest peak is Đeravica 2656 m on Prokletije mountains near Montenegrian and Albanian border - the largest natural lake is Palićko jezero around 4,5 km2 in Vojvodina near Subotica, there are 6 more natural aeolian lakes in this region - Iron gates is the name of the gorge, name of the lake is Đerdapsko jezero
Also you mentioned "Česnica" for Christmas in Serbia but like Christmas bread (for eating) but actually it's not about eating it's about coin that in bread so when family parts bread who got a coin have a good year...
Bruh... Česnica *is* Christmas Pogača/bread. The "coin" you refer to is not called Česnica, it's called Zlatnik/Gold coin (for bourgeois people) or Novčić/Little coin (for us normies).
Old eagle was designed by a german and according to some "serbian experts" there is "german heraldry" in the old one, so that is a reason why they changed to "more serbian" eagle.
Honestly, prefer the new eagle. The neck design on the old eagle was way too ugly, with an overabundance of feathers and a somewhat scrawny design. The new birds look like they mean business.

Between 2:46 and 2:50 when showing the panslavic colors, both Slovakia and Slovenia are depicted incorrectly (I mean the order of the colors; I know the coat of arms is not supposed to be there). It is later correct on the full flags between 2:50 and 2:54.
I really like Balkan folk music, including serbian. I swear that Tamo daleko is one of the most beautiful folk songs i've ever heard. For the uninitiated, it was written during WW1 when the serbian army had to retreat to Greece and Serbia got occupied by the austro-hungarian/bulgarian army and it's about homesickness.
@@adamaristophanes6055 Your very welcome. It's maybe a bit ironical due to the fact that my own great-great-grandfather was in the ranks of the army that attacked Serbia in WW1.
@@ImperatorCaesarAugustus31 Nah, it is not ironical that much, since even Tito was austro-hungarian soldier during WW1 and later he has became a president of Yugoslavia and he was buried in one of the most beautiful memorial center, built just for him, in the downtown of Belgrade. Many Serbs adore him even today. So everything here is ironical. We got used to it.
If you are talking about Tito, you need to mention how Tito had forbid Serbs that left Kosovo and Metohija due to war and killings to go back to Kosovo and Metohija after WW2!
He didn’t forbid them, he offered them to instead go to vojvodina where he had expelled the german population. Since vojvodina was richer they opted to go to vojvodina, when they took the farms left by the germans.
@@arjan5071 There's literal proof that people themselves said they forbid them to go back, even the law ignored them when they reported Albanians stealing their houses. Vojvodina was mostly colonised by Bosnians and Montenegrins, very few Kosovans.
Thanks Barb for the videos. And especially for the Balkan ones as it’s hard to keep everyone happy as everyone is nationalistic af. So thanks. Last thing I wanted to say. At 1:12 you mention the Ottoman census of 1455. The Ottomans held censuses based on religion and not on ethnicity. But Serbian Scholars and Historians pulled those number of dwellings out of those censuses presumably. And Albanians and Serbians being both Christians it’s hard to distinguish them. And of course you have the Serbianization of Albanians by the Stefan Uros but yeah. Good video all around especially on the Kosovo part and clearing a few things out.
This is totally not true. If at something Ottomans were very precise and good in writings and archiving things they saw so not only on religion census but as well about nationalities and tribes that lived under their territorial rule over the centuries. Not only 1455 shows this but later years as well shows who were there before and who was settling Kosovo in waves coming down from the mountains in large masses. This is not some Serbian invented story, it is the official Ottomans archive which you are able to see even today if you go to Istanbul and want to take a look (unfortunately Albanians ignore this clear factual terrain archive).
Rogy N This is kind of wrong dear! Under ottoman rule u were ottoman if u converted to Islam! This is why the Ottoman Empire grew as larg as it did🧐! It is the only reason why it could grow as larg as it was! It considered its people to be ottoman based on religion and not nationality! Otherwise the blood would have been flowing from one end of the empire to the other End! And the empire really really big! So if people converted to Islam they did count as Ottoman! Mostly people did so because they had to pay taxes! Taxes were crucial for the existence of the Ottoman Empire so the empire could finance itself! This is why there are exact numbers of those who did pay taxes meaning who did not belong to the empire meaning who did not convert to Islam! And those who did not convert to Islam were Slavic people and also a few Albanians! But majority of Albanians actually did convert to Islam in order to be left to live in peace and not be bothered tortured and killed by ottomans and taxes but I said that!😸🙀🙀 But see even before the Ottoman Empire and before Roman Empire u had Albanian tribes living in that region! Long before Kosovo was called Kosovo is was Dardania! If u need some history book from different perspectives ofc I can recommend some ☺️ ✌🏼and even today u have Albanian tribes there! In Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, North Greek, because that land originally belong to Albanians and therefore I find Albanians even
Unfortunately you got it wrong regarding coat of arms. The meaning of “Serbian c’s” is not only unity saves the Serbs. Actually it dates back to Byzantine empire and it is a version of Greek letter B(beta). The original meaning is king of kings, ruling over kings. Later on, especially during late 20th century people started using “only unity saves the Serbs” as a motto.
Serbian coat of arms doesn't have to do anything with byzantine. To be honest i'd probably slap anyone who said such lie. Serbs use this coat of arms even before byzantine empire(as we know it) was a thing. Not to talk about their ancestors. Please stop spreading the misinformation.
Vanja maybe you think it does not have to do anything, but actually it has everything with Byzantine empire. Aside from religion we accept many of their tradition, including this symbol. You can’t slap me, nor anyone else probably. What you can do though, is give me facts behind all that nonsense you wrote, or simply shut the fuck up.

hahaha solid joke. I'm Romanian and didn't think of it when I watched the video because it's pula not pule but close enough for me to appreciate the joke
Do you maybe use word ''pulajka''? People in Eastern Serbia frequently use ''pulajka'' as some kind of dimunitive of the word ''pula''. Not sure if it is diminutive in Romanian or it is some new serbo-romanian word made here. Since younger people mostly do not speak Romanian, just Serbian, but there is many elder people that actually can speak Romanian, so pula(jka) remains even for the younger generations lol
Almost every grandpa back in the days in Eastern Serbia when he sees his grandson: Gde si dedino, kaži dedi je l' raste pulajka!? *laughs hysterically* (everything in Serbian except pula part and it means something as ''what's up grandson, tell your grandpa, is your pulajka growing'')

That's also why I really love your show, along with entertainment. I hope you understand where I'm coming from....besides Serbia. Which I don't know if you would notice out of thousands of comments but just in case. Ziveli!!!
There's no Orthodox Christian who can be happy with that news. Bulgarians, Greeks, Georgians, Ukrainians, Montenegrins, Macedonians, Romanians, Russians, Serbs. Than there our Oriental Orthodox brothers (Armenians, Copts, Syrian Christians, Ethiopians etc.). To tell you the truth, I don't think Catholics and Protestants are thrilled either. It is a bad decision, designed to divide and not unite people, for a few fleeting political points. Sad thing really.
I think most people aren’t happy with the decision regardless of their nationality or faith. Secular Turks aren’t happy with it either because it symbolises the transition of Turkey from a (more or less-) secular state back into an islamic one
"Serbian" Cross is actually coming from Byzantine Palaiogologos family Imperial flag. It is 4 greek β, not serbian "c". It means "King of Kings, Ruling Over Kings (βασιλεὺς βασιλέων, βασιλεύων βασιλευόντων; Basileus Basileōn, Basileuōn Basileuontōn). Serbian king Dusan took it as symbol to show them as last remains of Byzantine empire, while ottomans were progressing. Same reason why it is sometimes shown as crest of Romanian Cantacusino family. Fairtale of "Samo Sloga Srbina Spasava" was coined in 18th century.
Wrong guys, it's much older than that. It is found in many neolithic artifacts in the Balkans. Why they took it in "Byzantine" and later in Serbia is honestly above our level of understanding, it's obviosly VERY old symbol.
@@RemetaD first of all, cyrillic wasn't made by st. Cyrillus but by his students, secondly no, I'm not saying that it meant cyrillic C I'm saying that the symbol is older than the byzantine, who took it from the people who previously used

I liked the old eagle more... they slightly changed their flag a couple of years ago.
I agree, that eagle was from Kingdom of Serbia (before Yugoslavia)
Yeah the OG eagle was great.
Yeah, me too.
It look more serious and simple than todays eagle.
The Serbian flag tricolour , was originally just a blue and red colour from medieval times, the white was added later on

But majority of Albanians actually did convert to Islam in order to be left to live in peace and not be bothered tortured and killed by ottomans and taxes but I said that!😸🙀🙀
But see even before the Ottoman Empire and before Roman Empire u had Albanian tribes living in that region!

SantomPh not sure about that bro...
Брате знам шта хоћеш да кажеш. Али је битно нагласити да је порекло симбола из Византије, а та крилатица само слога србина спашава је настала много касније него сам симбол. Serbian coat of arms doesn't have to do anything with byzantine. To be honest i'd probably slap anyone who said such lie. Serbs use this coat of arms even before byzantine empire(as we know it) was a thing. Not to talk about their ancestors. Please stop spreading the misinformation.

Thank you, Finaly someone with some true knowledge.
Wrong guys, it's much older than that. It is found in many neolithic artifacts in the Balkans. Why they took it in "Byzantine" and later in Serbia is honestly above our level of understanding, it's obviosly VERY old symbol.
