@@Tunnelsnakes it is because when a cop drives in front of someone they can run the plate without letting the suspect/car in front of them. Also we have automated parking garages that scan your place from the front, open the gate and when you leave they scan the plate again and the parking cost will be automatically written of your bank account. Also when towing a trailer you can't see the rear license plate and other things. But I agree, a rear plate should have been enough :(
@@tubejorrit I don’t understand that logic honestly. If a cop has to drive in front of a suspects car, they’re literally already in front and in literal sight of the suspect driver. A cop is a lot less likely to get noticed when following from the rear if they’re pursuing someone. Also, no reason for camera systems in garages to be facing the opposite way to capture the rear plate. As for trailers, just require the trailer cars themselves to be plated then. If they don’t do that, chances are these people wouldn’t be plating their vehicles in the first place.

Former 280 owner. Love the old school Z. I’m glad they finally up the HP in the newer offering. The Supra is a strong piece of kit as well. I can say I would be happy with either (I think). I’ve gave up my built 280 about 30 yrs ago. It was about 50 hp over stock which in todays standards isn’t anything significant. The L28 was rated at 170 hp. Think I was making 210-220. I could outrun 5.0’s in the 80’s which were rated at about 225 if I remember. Also outran 6.6 trans Ams & Z28’s. The only thing that ever got me was a 911 turbo. Pretty sure it was a turbo as it had a picnic table sized whale tale and flared fender wells. We came off a stoplight and I hung through first gear, lost a 1/2 car in 2nd and he drove out of my life in 3rd. Such great fun! We are blessed to have such potent vehicles from the manufactures. I’m still a little old school. I’m running a 2007 C6 Z now. Surprised that my mpg is about same as these cars however I’m making about 550 wheel (yes not huge numbers for an LS7). Boost is great & it wouldn’t take much to turn up the wick on these two, I’m sure. Beautiful cars, the both. Nicely done review.

@@2seep 55k is to much for this old ass platform. Considering you would have to spend thousands to get better tires better exhaust and suspension work upon taking delivery. Nissan did the bare minimum but they threw a 240z body kit on the car to pull in buyers lol

@@mhockey1736 nobody can find a base for 41k it one near me in Dallas going for 60k Nissan is only going to keep hiking up the price when these cars do become available base price probably will be 45k not including taxes fees and interest rates that people seem to forget to include.

I think my two favorite sport cars of all time are the Porsche 911 and the Supra MK5. When it first launched, I was not very enthusiastic about it because it wasn’t a PURE Toyota but I understand that in this economy, the only way Toyota could give us a affordable sports car; would be to collaborate with BMW. Also knowing that the B58 engine is the closest we’re going to get the Toyota 2JZ(and might even be better than the 2JZ). The Supra also has a better road presence than the Z and like I said, the only other sport car I would consider over a Supra is the 911.

Bottom line the Supra has one of the best if not the best engines going for it right now. And if BMW really advertised power the B58 is at least 425 HP at the crank. Fit and finish from what I saw is superior in the Supra and the BMW i-drive is away ahead of the Nissan. Basically not even close, Supra hands down.

I think the Z is gonna find itself in its own class of "not everyone has it, so its cool" for a bunch of reasons. The supra got introduced early enough with the b58 to juice that thing to high heaven, whereas half of us cant even see a Z in person yet on the streets. As much as i want to love the new Z its hard to love something that most of us have no access or exposure to

I had the opportunity to drive both of these cars back to back. They were both wonderful and I'm so glad they exist. I was surprised at how very different they were.
The Supra had the better engine and chassis dynamics. It feels very polished and high tech. The Z had a better overall design and an old school, analog drivers car feel I found missing in the somewhat sanitized and digital Supra. I thought the Z had more soul and was more fun to drive fast. It's a personal preference thing.They are both quick, handle great and are very entertaining. You really can't go wrong with either one.
I have yet to see a single Z. I would assume outrageous dealership markups are to blame...?
The B58 is a far superior motor and drivetrain. No offense to the Z, but make no mistake, I think the A90’s are here to stay. Least for me in my garage!!!
I wouldn't so easily count out the Z or should I say VR. Tuners are relentless and from a build standpoint the platform is EXTREMELY capable (600+HP on stock internals). A tune and tire change alone on the stock Z can run an 11 flat. With some coil overs and other boosters to handling it'll perform extremely well on track days!

Deciding factor for me is sound of inline 6 over the v6. Especially if going aftermarket, I think the Supra sounds much better. Otherwise, various trade-offs between both cars.

You have to listen to tj hunts video if you think that. The vr30 sounds so good. But you need full downpipes for that. The vr30 has 4 catalytic converts which muffles it sound wayy too much. The Supra has only 1 catalytic converters which is why you can hear it more.
Beautiful, powerful, unique. A debate of taste. However, they again are making these machines unaffordable and that was what got them extinct in the first place.

I highly doubt this will happen. The 86 is all about low COG (need a boxer engine) , anything inline / turbo is most likely out. I'm sure someone will do a engine swap, at some point . Plus the 86 /BRZ is a collaboration , where Subaru mainly brings to the table the boxer engine

However, I'd prefer a 240sx .... or FR-S/ 86 /BRZ , to wring out that HP/torque (more useable power 100% of the time) , drift , light weight RWD , good MPG cars ... under $35k .

Great conclusion. A lot of reviews have ruled out the Z completely because the Supra is faster but posing the Z as a touring/cruiser is probably better. Plus, since it's cheaper to start with it's also cheaper to modify to spec whereas the Supra will always be a costlier build. For that, these two are the same. Not to mention, they are the last of their breed before the EVs push out the enthusiast vehicles.

Problem with the Supra is they stuffed all of the FT-01 design elements into a car the size of a BMW Z4. It’s too busy. Plus, it’s a “BMW” Supra!
Verdict: buy the Z and drive with dignity😂….or buy the Z4.
Mk5 is based off the 2000gt which is why it's small like it is and the ft1 concept later became what the LC500 is. There isn't much dignity when Nissan can barely sell or bring out the Z's as is when they even stopped production on them since they had issues with them.

See, Subaru they partially own so it kinda makes sense but outsourcing to BMW is like Chevy asking Ford to make the next generation Camaro!!
@@oz41R Lc platform is too heavy and isn't really good to use for a sportscar. They wanted the mk5 to go against the cayman/370z at the time so using that chassis would've been a major step back in using it. It's not abnormal anyway when toyo quiet literally used chevys own cavalier,rebadged it, and literally used it in jgtc and even had a trd kit for if also.

The BMW Supra is a better numbers car, but I like the Z better. It has more personality, and in my opinion looks much better. Plus there's the fact that Nissan has only built about 100 of them per month since they were released. You just don't see very many of them on the road. I'm not a BMW hater (used to own an m240i w/manual transmission), but I think Toyota dropped the ball by not building their own car.
Love the review but to say those engines are legendary is very questionable. Now if you want to say the VQ and 2jz are legendary that'll go without question

GTR in its own league
Supra always competed against the Z even in the case of the mk4. The gtr even back then was in a totally different segment compared to the supra. They were never meant to compete anyway but were only compared because they had similar power to each other but still stayed in their respective classes regardless.
And still from January of 2022 placing a preorder deposit directly to nissan canada, i have not received any information or a allocation to my order so by default the z loses

Guys, you all keep saying you're "sure" BMW engines are underrated for power. B58 has been out there for years -- has no one dino'ed one yet? Let's put an end to this speculation. I tell you the reason it feels more than 380 HP is because when normal cars say X HP, that's peak HP, which means you don't get that power until you rev it out. Turbo engines move that peak power lower in the RPM range, so you can get most of that power in normal the RPM range. Just dino it!

The Supra is better in every way. Even though the Z came out years after the Supra it’s still based on the old Z and is not as fast in a straight line or track.
I would be fearful of Bring Money Withyou (BMW) lack of long term reliability in the Supra. Nissan these days is not known for their reliability either since joining up with Renault. You better have deep pockets if plan keeping these an extended period of time.

These cars aren't even comparable. The Z still feels like a boat and is one step behind the Supra in every conceivable way. You definitely know where Nissan went to cut corners. Car is heavier then the Supra, car has lag with the twin turbo setup idk how they managed that. Lets be honest. The Z is a recycled regurgitated 370z that Nissan dealers are killing you with mark ups. Not to mention it won't even let you turn traction control fully off and rev it out. When the Z has less then half a tank of gas it starts cutting timing. So many negatives.

At least they made the “Supra” (BMW) a manual… though it doesn’t have a manual e brake, at least they tried because people was getting too comfortable driving an auto which isn’t good. So they get props for that… a lot of companies don’t recreate a chassis with a manual if it wasn’t meant to be.
Supra is hands down the better car
Nissan for me, spend the money diff on mods and tuning and we'll see whos the better sport car. At the end of the day the nissan is all nissan not a confused bmw.
You know you can’t change the chassis no matter how much you try. The Z is chassis is a sedan chassis that is over 20 years old. The Supra is a grounds up bespoke sports car chassis. No matter how much you money you put in the Z, it will never handle better than the Supra. You can keep that bmw joke because no Z is gapping a Supra with same money spent on both cars.
Good thing the chassis doesn’t need to be changed because it’s solid. Other than age, can you name a specific, technical flaw in the chassis that warrants a redesign? It may share the FM platform with other Nissan performance models, but no other car rides on the Z chassis so this “sedan chassis” notion is utter nonsense.
Also a simple flash tune on a base Z is more than enough to gap a stock Supra, with plenty of money left over.

The basic chassis design of the Z is older, and the actual power of the B58 is higher.
Unless you like the design of the Z, you should pick the Supra.
But if you drive with MT, Z is good. The Supra's MT and pedal layout are in a weird position.
This is why the z isn’t ecu locked. Fbo s and a tune 450 wheel horsepower. You won’t have to go through the hassle of sending the ecu to get it unlocked.

Fuckin traction control.. I never use it.. it becomes a hugely terrible crutch.. My 22 SS 1LE has about 4 levels of t/c and its off along with esc always, unless I get caught in rain.. It makes bad habits of just flooring your car when you shouldn't.. Its much faster to learn to modulate and accelerate thru and out of corners like your supposed to.. I guess I just can't stand the feeling of pulling power and closing throttle all the time.. I grew up driving fast stick rwd cars well b4 traction control was even a thing.. But it taught me to learn to feel the car, and read what its doing, the 1LE is not a car on a knifes edge, and easily caught, but there is a lot to be said about learning cornering, straight line braking, on throttle thru corners, left foot braking, ect.. Being in the correct gear is also huge, cars are easier to catch when your up in the rev range than on the bottom end of the tq peak.. IE:keep it above peak tq..

One of the things that's kind of has me baffled is why Toyota, a car company known for their reliability, have BMW, a car company that's known to be wildly unreliable, build their Halo car.... I mean, it's a nice car right now that it's new but we all know in 5 years it's going to break everywhere, right?
It would take forever to develop a straight six turbo engine from scratch to live up to the it's predecessor 2jz engine.
the b58 is a straight 6 turbo and toyota made their own tweaks to the engine/tuning of the engine before the car went on the market.
As an owner of a 2021 supra, I have daily driven the car almost 30k miles and I've had NO issues at all with the car, even with aftermarket parts on the car.
@jadentha1090 Yeah, I understand. However, toyota has turbo i6 engines.. they use them a ton of cars all over the world.. even in land cruisers.
As for reliability. It's not the engines themselves that have issues. It's everything else around them. For example, in our shop, we have a ton of bmw's with messed-up sensors, plastic that just crumbles.. parts that should be made of metal but aren't, etc.. your car is running fine right now because it's still new (time wise).
With BMW, it's not about the miles you put on them.. it's about the time they have been around.. it's like the plastic that holds everything together, pipes, lines, sensors, has an expiration date before it just..... breaks. That's why I call them Cinderella cars... amazing and perfect at the ball, but if you don't get back and sell it before your 5 years is up, they turn to trash, and you're left walking
Not all bmw are unreliable for starters and bmw sells lots of cars even with the reliability issues they are emotional cars. Fun to drive and engaging. And I’ve owned both bmws abs a Toyota Supra. secondly bmw know how to build performance as well. And thirdly Toyota didn’t want to build a Supra with a Nissan GTR OR LEXUS LFA price tag by building it from scratch like what what did with the Lexus LFA

I've owned two of these supras, one I ran over 100000 km , I never had anything go wrong with them. I owned a 370z nismo aswell, the supra is alot quicker off the mark.

Just trying to give some feedback, please fix the pitch and cadence of your speaking. Your monotone and occasionally break up your sentences in strange places. It’s just not nice to follow.
Supra better than Z
I rather Take the Supra over the Z any day. BMW will last longer than the Z and less trips to Dealerships for repairs. If Toyota believes in BMW so do I. Plus Supra is miles ahead with that sexy car than the Z just boring.
