Also thanks for sending me the APO-1 knives, I will soon give them a really tough test... but I am sure they will pass with flying colors.
Reload time would be much dependent on if one's using the developed 'stripper clip' style arrow holder/reloader, or not. Much like using a stripper clip vs handling single rounds on a magazine fed bolt action rifle.
There are "stripper clips" designed for this kind of bows by Łukasz Janikowski. They make reloading it very fast too - look up "sliding legolini" and "Sil Hybrid Bow".
I think loading should be included as well, since the other bows included loading time. The Fenris may still have an advantage, but at least it'll be an "apples to apples" comparison.
Why? The other quivers are loaded from the start. This quiver is fortunately holding the arrows it's gonna shoot. If that's the case, then the compound and recurve quivers would need to be empty as well prior to time start.
I think not. If you're hunting, you aren't going to need more than 5 arrows to make sure you don't miss. So, just come prepared with your magazine full. If you're in a battle, you're hardly going to need to quick shoot that much, unless you're being charged, in which case unloading 5 arrows in 5-10 seconds before running away sounds more than enough. Also, the magazine could be made larger Yes, it would have been interesting to see the loading time too, that is true.

Can't go wrong. If you're about to complain that she didn't time loading the magazine, just know that there is an available stripper clip I think, and with practice I think you could load the mag and shoot 5 times and still beat a compound bow with release. Also should we time loading up and putting on the quiver? I don't think so.... its the equivalent procedure though.
It's amazing to see this in a production form, having watched the various iterations on Joerg's channel. Then having one sent to an archery enthusiast and put through it's paces is great.

You can already do that. I don’t know if their are competitions but horse archery clubs practice maneuvering around with their horses while shooting a variety of targets. I knew that you with the fenris, was a lethal combination and you would only be too happy to show your excitement and appreciation with a video. Glad you shared with us your joy. I'm convinced I will have to get myself one.
I have the fenris and have been shooting it very often. One important thing about it is that you MUST double up on the serving. Because of the mechanism, it is very hard on your bow string serving. Doing a double layer will protect your string. I leave the first layer of serving and have re-served the nock point 3 times in the past month. I use different colors so i can see when it is worn through.
Another issue is the loss of speed. The fenris will slow your arrow speed tremendously because of the friction of the stacked arrows. I have my bow set to 70 lbs which may seem like alot but the magazine makes drawing it easy so its no big deal.
I also noticed that cam sync changes with the fenris equipped and un-equipped (especially at higher draw weights). For example, if my cam sync is perfect without the fenris, when i put it on, it all of a sudden becomes no longer synched and vice versa.
should have started the fenris timer to include the loading time to make it more fair, it still would have won the speed test either way. nice new take on the old chinese repeating crossbow tech
The Fenris acts as the quiver so adding that time would make no sense. If you like adding the time it took for her to put the arrows in the quiver on her back as well. Ever considered a hip-mounted quiver? It decreases the amount of steps required by half. Also with a shoulder mounted quiver, the arrows can fall out far more often. Hip quivers allow for rolls and lots of different advantages, like hiding a bunch of arrows behind yourself.
There are fast reloaders for this design, too. They work a little like "stripper clips" in old semi-automatic guns. Look up "sliding legolini" and "sil hybrid bow" by Łukasz Janikowski.
I measured the loading time of about 23 seconds + 10 seconds of shooting, it about equals the recurve bow. But it ignores the fact, that you can use a clip loader on the fenris, which makes it really fast.
@@SurvivalLilly That’s certainly true. I admire the Fenris as the only real technological advance in bow making since the invention of the compound bow. It feels almost as cheating :-D
Cool video, and cool product! My heart rate got faster watching you shooting the recurve bow, seeing you getting excited by your time going by "too fast". There is a saying: slow is smooth, and smooth is fast. It always seems the faster you hurry, the longer things seem to take. :)
I think you should account for the time it takes to load the magazine with arrows. Or perhaps you could cut some time from the recurve bow if you held arrows in your hand (Lars Anderson style) instead of pulling them from the quiver.
two things if you decide to hunt with this bow and or just get more enjoyment out of it 1) most of his Legolas have reloading magazines for quick reloading ... and 2) there is an add-on index finger relief knob with just your index finger you can walk around with the bow fully cocked and/or take all the time you want to get a better shot. you dont even need to hold the charging handle, your index finger alone will hold it cocked.. and if you index finger ever slips off the knob the bolt wont fire, (this is kinda hard to explain) but if you watch Joerg you will see what i mean
@SurvivalLily make sure to get the stripper clips. Also I agree that a load timing should be done, as well as a comparison between Fenris, Compound and Recurve bows to see which is faster at 10 shots. Remember that the Fenris can be shot with just one arrow and is likely faster than both the Compound and Recurve even still. Also remember you don't have to move the lever that secures the arrows to load the bow. Jorge loaded the bow without moving it out of the way all the time.
Sweet! Prob not take so long using standard bows if quiver was on the bow. Or find a easier way to be able to grab em quick. Love the bow with the magazine, it’s so fast! Great shooting!
You should have recorded the amount of time it took with the fenris including loading the arrows into the magazine to make this more accurate, because although youre comparing apples to apples (with the arrows being in the quiver already for the standard compound and recurve, it can only hold 5 arrows so you will have to reload the magazine more often than a standard bow. Just a suggestion.
I enjoy your videos. I felt you took a little extra time focusing on the target with your compound bow compared to the recurve and a little less time focusing on the Fenris but your accuracy always amazes me no matter which bow you use. You mentioned a different class of archery. I agree. I'm sure you've seen movies showing police and military competing on time and accuracy while walking or running through buildings or a shooting area with different targets. Your three targets at end of video was fun to watch and everything was on target.
you didn't factor in the loading time of the arrows into the magazine, but hey it's an awesome adaptation / invention, Jorge Sprave is an awesome innovator. You are pretty awesome too 👍
Shad in his review (of wooden version of instant legolas) did count it as well (he started with empty magazine) and it was still much faster, even without training. Though in basically every aspect you'd prefer the burst of 5 arrows, even if a/s was the same.
Jorge has a stripper clip for speed loading the fenris. Also, not figured in was the time to load up the quiver for the recurve or the straight compound.
Very nice video with great results. But to be more precise, the time to load the Fenris magazine with the five arrows should be added to the time to shoot the five arrows. You are adding that same comparable time of taking each arrow from the quiver, mounting it to the bow and discharging each arrow with the conventional bow shooting. All you are doing is maximizing the convenience of having those arrows pre-loaded at a desirable time. Accuracy and stability of the bow is greatly enhanced. I'd like to see that comparison done. Thanks
@@MrGiovannisassano Hi Gio. Yes, I am aware of that on Joerg's channel. But my comments are still valid necessitating a more realistic comparison. I think the Fenris is great and hope to get maybe after the holidays unless Santa is reading this and makes good on it. Thanks
I love the magazine. It's just too expensive for me. But you taught me what a recurve & compound is. The Fenris is sweet but it's out of my price range. Thanks for the lesson! (Hero)
Great shooting! In my experience a hip quiver speeds rate of fire up tremendously. It seems like the back/shoulder quiver only makes sense for mounted archers.
@@Makkenhoff The 5-arrow magazine is actually the quiver. If You prepare Your quiver at home and load it with 5 arrows, or if You prepare the magazine at home and load it with 5 arrows - it is basically the same: it's preparation. But with the normal quiver, You need to feed one arrow after the other manually to the bow, which is: grabbing the arrow and pulling it out of the quiver; aligning the arrow with bow and string; attaching the arrow's notch to the string; for compound bow with a release: attaching the release to the string's D-loop; pulling the string to Your cheek; aiming at the target; release the string and shoot the arrow. With the quiver, all of this is done at the same time. So You have basically the same preparation procedure for quiver and magazine (at least for the first 5 arrows). But the shooting procedure is where the magazine is far superior.
I love seeing you compete against yourself, but I'd love to see a second video using 10 or 15 shots (so including the reload time of the Fenris) The first 5 shots are great in a magazine, even if it takes about 30 seconds to reload, and obviously in hunting the bonus second and MAYBE third is all you'll ever need, I doubt I would even GET a second shot without the Fenris adapter Great vids as always
'clips': connect 5 arrows with glued cardboard. set up so the glue breaks on firing. Easy. Same time to load as a single arrow. Also, if you need more than 5 arrows at once in battle you have bigger problems than reloading time.
Now all it needs is to feature a removable 20-30arrow, spring loaded quiver mag and use electromagnetic rails to multiply the force of the string tension to that of a magnum handgun and voila: you've created the soon-to-be-illegal-everywhere Rail Bow.
First off, to make it a fair test you should have all the arrows lined up in front of you, and not in a back quiver. You can see this being done in plenty of historical accounts and depictions. You should also shoot at least 10 arrows, so that you have to re-load the Fenris. Note that you could also make (or get) stripper clips for the Fenris, which would make loading the Fenris much faster. If you have a full magazine and several stipper clips easily available, you can really shower the targets with arrows.
Didn’t the medieval arches in field battle make up to 3 rows of 20-30 arches, then they would stick about 5 arrows into the ground near legs and start shooting in sequence row after row so they could shoot nonstop until all arrows run out. Don’t get me wrong this device is awesome for close encounters, but on the open field with two opposite divisions of arches, I don’t think it would make much advantage due to much longer reloading time, since it’s much faster to stick 5 arrows into the ground near your legs, and you’re reloaded.
To be fair, the time spent setting the arrows into the fenris must be added to the total time. Nonetheless it's quite impressive. It's a bit out of my price range but would like to make one with plywood just like his originals.
can you try loading + shooting the fenris as fast as possible, because that would give us your sustained firerate which should be arround the same for the other bows. Vielen Dank 8>
My mouth waters every time I see this system. But the cost drys it. At $1299 without the bow which I have three of that total less than that, I cannot justify that. I really do like watching your videos and hearing your explanations. There are many women shooting all over the world and when they watch you I think many more want to try. Maybe not with this expensive rig but you have shows for beginners too I know.
I think you increase the draw length in fenris bow, that looks too short. You will get better string alignment. As the grip and trigger as is few inches behind the string, you have to anchor pass the ear anyway like shooting compound with release aid.
To be fair, you really should have included the time it took you to load that magazine. You should also try a thumb draw or slavic draw technique for comparison.
When talking about shooting speed and arrows per second, you have to include the loading time for the fenris, otherwise its unfair to the other bows. Also, having the quiver on the back is also slower than having it on the hip.
For the first 5 arrows reloading time is irrelevant. I dont think a side quiver is faster at all. Because you would have to reach down with the hand. An extra movement you dont need to make with a back quiver.
@@SurvivalLilly well it is relevant, when you are done with 5 arrows, the normal bow can go on shooting while you are reloading. When you take the time to compare these three bows, you should include that. If the fenris is still faster, than that is OK, but video proof would be cool. When it comes to the side quiver, that might also be interesting to see on video and compare it.
Hi Lilly just curious but would it not be a more fair comparison if the loading of the Fenris was included in the overall time. with the re-curve and compound bows this is a large part of the slowness as the action is "load, cock, fire" x 5. Whereas the Fenris is loaded and you are timing only the cock and fire portion. just a thought. i will run the same past Jorg Sprave as that is the one area which is a "bottleneck" in shooting speed but is not compared
I watched your bow videos and I like how you discover bowsport. I think the Fenris bow is a nice toy and interesting development of Jörg Sprave. So far, I saw in your video, your grouping with your Rambo style bow was much more accurate like with the big Fenris machine. I believe that these short light Fenris arrows with only two fletchings are not so accurate because of only two fletchings, specially on longer distances. There ist a reason, why most bowshooters ended up to a three father fletching over the Centuries. If you would put not your arrows on the back like Robin Hood and would should your ManKung bow with a shooting glove and a faster drop point release, you would shoot much faster with it. Also, if you would use bamboo arrows with 3 longer natural fletchings, you will increase your results once more again on short distances. Even bamboo offers some more other possibilities and has a very strong spine. By the way, I have the same bow and if I look at the 13 times higher price of this heavy and bulky Fenris bow, I think it's the much more affordable deal. And thank you for the tip in one of your last videos, how to increase the lbs on this bow to 60lbs, I didn't know this. I have learned from you now ;-)
Maybe this challenge was a bit off in that you would also need to load the Fenris as well as to shoot it. It would be a more proper comparison in time. Great test none the less.
Very interesting device. Greatly enjoy watching Joerg & Lilly's channels. Design, build, test, improve. In hunting this could be very useful if a follow-up shot is needed, but stealthy it is not... yet.
@@reason1925 you use a gun and get a kill with the noise it has. With that Fenris on the bow your in a tree and even if they run off you got 2 shots off before they get going
Not talking about hunting with a gun. From a bow- hunting perspective, the instant you "cock" this device, game will be alerted. Which leaves you the option of keeping it "cocked." Maybe a safety would be a solution, but I'd be concerned the extended period of tension could cause premature wear to components and a deterioration of performance.
I'd love to see you go through a course with that setup. Like shooters will go through a course with a rifle, you go through with this. Your videos are awesome 😎👍
Not as far as I know, but who knows what Jörg's been up to since his last video...😀. But it can reloaded faster using a 'stripper clip' style arrow holder/reloaded that holds the arrows in the proper orientation - put in position it unlocks and you just push down on the whole stack
you should have timed loading the cartridge and firing as you had to load each arrow on a bow and in real life you would have to take time out to reload while being attacked. but I LOVE IT!!!

two things if you decide to hunt with this bow and or just get more enjoyment out of it 1) most of his Legolas have reloading magazines for quick reloading ... and 2) there is an add-on index finger relief knob with just your index finger you can walk around with the bow fully cocked and/or take all the time you want to get a better shot. you dont even need to hold the charging handle, your index finger alone will hold it cocked.. and if you index finger ever slips off the knob the bolt wont fire, (this is kinda hard to explain) but if you watch Joerg you will see what i mean
Get a hip quiver for the recurve... One that orients the arrows low and backwards. The back quiver is slowing you down in my opinion.
I think she will be able to shoot 1 arrow pr 3 or 4 sec if she does.
Absolutely fantastic pure genius.... And nice shooting on your part 👍🏼💯
Would it have been a fairer time comparison to include the 5 arrow load time?
The fenris is also considered the quiver, so if you included adding arrows to the back quiver and timed it that would be fair.
@@freedomofmotion Agree, it has an integrated quiver!
Everybody looks so happy when they shoot it!
Maybe try to find or make a offset scope mount to change the possition of the sight.
An amazing invention. Thank you for the demonstration.
you didn't factor in the loading time of the arrows into the magazine, but hey it's an awesome adaptation / invention, Jorge Sprave is an awesome innovator.
You are pretty awesome too 👍
She takes 21 secs in loading
She takes 21 secs in loading
Shad in his review (of wooden version of instant legolas) did count it as well (he started with empty magazine) and it was still much faster, even without training.
Though in basically every aspect you'd prefer the burst of 5 arrows, even if a/s was the same.
Jorge has a stripper clip for speed loading the fenris. Also, not figured in was the time to load up the quiver for the recurve or the straight compound.
@@leifsonoferik this answer is good.
Cooles Instrument ;) Super Lilly!
Excellent job, you make that bow look good
Awesome video, Lilly!
Thanks
There is clips for the magazine to load the arrows.
@@MrGiovannisassano Hi Gio. Yes, I am aware of that on Joerg's channel. But my comments are still valid necessitating a more realistic comparison. I think the Fenris is great and hope to get maybe after the holidays unless Santa is reading this and makes good on it. Thanks
*GREAT VIDEO ! Love and Light to you ALL.*
I love the magazine. It's just too expensive for me. But you taught me what a recurve & compound is. The Fenris is sweet but it's out of my price range. Thanks for the lesson! (Hero)
Great shooting! In my experience a hip quiver speeds rate of fire up tremendously. It seems like the back/shoulder quiver only makes sense for mounted archers.
...or the movies. 😄
What about trying 10 arrows in a row with all 3 bows so we see how It is when you really the magazine....😁
I will next time
Jörg Sprave already showed an arrow magazine clip for fast reloading.
@@pocoloco8075 Yup, much like a stripper clip for reloading a rifle's magazine
Good comment. My son and I thought the same thing - no argument that 5 shot preloaded was superb.
You need to get the clip quivers for the arrows. You can load somewhere up to 20 arrows with in 40 seconds with practice.
Joerg sprave,we salute you!!
Hart aber Geil..... 🤣
I love seeing you compete against yourself, but I'd love to see a second video using 10 or 15 shots (so including the reload time of the Fenris)
The first 5 shots are great in a magazine, even if it takes about 30 seconds to reload, and obviously in hunting the bonus second and MAYBE third is all you'll ever need, I doubt I would even GET a second shot without the Fenris adapter
Great vids as always
If you live in a wide open space, this might be a good alternative for home defense.
I wonder if you can attached the magazine to the new SAS Ranger takedown long bow.
The string is dacron, non magnetic...
I really like how the loading and shooting system of the arrows is very fast and innovative. Hi good evening👍
There is loading clips for it now and you can get up to 20 shoot's with in 40 seconds.

"Stripper Clips"
@@MrGiovannisassano where I can find it?
@@barnabaf.4376 read the comments about it you'll get the answer.
If you factor in how long it takes to load that magazine, there is a lot less time difference.
Reload can be highly sped up using 'stripper clip' style arrow holder
Can you change the nocks and fletch to use regular arrows?
A great device for rapid shooting. I'd include the magazine loading time with it in order to get a fair comparison but still an awesome piece of kit.
If you don't fire more than five shots per stage or engagement than reload time is irrelevant on fenris.
Spot On, Lilly👍🏹🙏
And thank You for sharing👌
looks good, how well is it at 50 yards / 45 meters????
Checkout Joerg's channel he tests out to 90 meters.
Which brand/type of compound bow are you shooting here??
You shot that recurve pretty fast by most standards. , pretty impressive ,
Is a fenris available for a left handed bow?
@@kennypool Thank you
Can’t find it anywhere can somebody send the link to buy it ? In u.s.a
First off, to make it a fair test you should have all the arrows lined up in front of you, and not in a back quiver.
@SurvivalLilly the handle for the Fenris can be turned to suit your more natural draw position I believe.
I doubt that very much. The trigger has to be set in place and moving the handle would move your thumb away from the trigger.
I may be wrong but I thought Jorge said you could move the red dot mount to the side so you don't have to sight down the top.
Didn’t the medieval arches in field battle make up to 3 rows of 20-30 arches, then they would
stick about 5 arrows into the ground near legs and start shooting in sequence row after row so they could shoot nonstop until all arrows run out.
Do you shoot right in the public area on a lawn, or was that private ground?
My mouth waters every time I see this system. But the cost drys it. At $1299 without the bow which I have three of that total less than that, I cannot justify that.
I really do like watching your videos and hearing your explanations. There are many women shooting all over the world and when they watch you I think many more want to try. Maybe not with this expensive rig but you have shows for beginners too I know.
Awesome archery test!
I think you increase the draw length in fenris bow, that looks too short. You will get better string alignment. As the grip and trigger as is few inches behind the string, you have to anchor pass the ear anyway like shooting compound with release aid.
Have you tried it with the front hook on the sliding rail?
So 5 arrows with none mechanical broadhead fit in that box?
I think 2 bladed broadheads can be used loaded in vertically on top of one another. Probably not triblades or mechanical without a form of spacer.
And how much time does it take to shoot 5 arrows when you include the magazine loading into the number?
To be fair, you really should have included the time it took you to load that magazine.
You should also try a thumb draw or slavic draw technique for comparison.
Servus Lilly,
When talking about shooting speed and arrows per second, you have to include the loading time for the fenris, otherwise its unfair to the other bows.
I have learned from you now ;-)
Hey Lilly, what draw weight do you normally use yourself for traditional recurve bows and what draw weight for your fenris bow?
Maybe this challenge was a bit off in that you would also need to load the Fenris as well as to shoot it. It would be a more proper comparison in time. Great test none the less.
Very interesting device. Greatly enjoy watching Joerg & Lilly's channels. Design, build, test, improve. In hunting this could be very useful if a follow-up shot is needed, but stealthy it is not... yet.
You didn't need stealth mode if you hit 5+ shots off before they get going.
The deer I hunt are neither deaf, nor so slow.
Then again, as with a crossbow, leaving it cocked for a few hours may do no harm. It will be interesting to read long term use reviews.
I suspect from 10 to 15 Arrows on, the times will be in favor of the more classic bows tho, as the reloading might hinder the Fenris
I want to see the time comparison for 15 shots, include the initial loading of the magazine.
There is loading clips for it now so that time is knocked down alot.
Probably not, if using the stripper clip style arrow holders - lets you load 5 in about the same time as a single...
Excellent shooting , I love this .
I'd love to see you go through a course with that setup. Like shooters will go through a course with a rifle, you go through with this. Your videos are awesome 😎👍
Great vid and cool to see a collaboration! :D
Now that's cool good thing about this is the aiming point doesn't move upon reloading

But, does it take Glock mags?!

Not as far as I know, but who knows what Jörg's been up to since his last video...😀. But it can reloaded faster using a 'stripper clip' style arrow holder/reloaded that holds the arrows in the proper orientation - put in position it unlocks and you just push down on the whole stack
Should you not add the time of loading the magazine?
not for the first load. you will load the bow before the hunt right?
you should have timed loading the cartridge and firing as you had to load each arrow on a bow and in real life you would have to take time out to reload while being attacked. but I LOVE IT!!!
The English archers at Agincourt could have 5 arrows in the air before the first hit the target and they were war bows of 200lb plus draw weight.
