    I ran into a scam on eBay a few years back for a guitar. I messaged the seller for more details and pictures of the guitar because there were few details and suspect pictures in the listing. They messaged back no additional details or pictures but offered a lower price if I would pay through Western Union outside of eBay. At that point, I know the listing was a scam. I can see watch scammers trying the same thing since wiring $ isn't protected.

    To each his own. You got a very beautiful watch. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Myself I prefer less flashy watches, such as expl 1 36. However for the DJ, I like fluted+jub, fluted+oyster and smoth+oyster combos (in that order from best to worst). I don't like smooth + jub, not a fan of the palm dial either. Great vid

    It’s just as bad if you’re a seller. I have my Seamaster 2531.80 for sale and you just get loads of messages wanting to buy the watch that turn out to be scammers hoping that you’ll fall for their trick of sending the watch and then the money doesn’t appear.

      definitely heard of a lot of scams where the seller gets scammed. I've often wondered how that happens, as one should never send the watch without first receiving full payment. But I guess this is where people get fooled by a false sense of trust. My parents always said to me, never trust anyone when money is involved!

      @@TheRandomWatchDude what happened in my case, and this isn’t the 1st time as I’ve sold other items as well, is they want to go ahead with the purchase, so they have my details, then I get an email from their “bank” saying they have received the payment and I need to ship the item asap and provide proof of shipping. They then release the money into my account. Of course once you’ve shipped the watch there’s likely going to be a problem or delay in releasing the money. I’m sure they are successful in this scam as it’s just a numbers game to them, the more scams they try, there’s going to be someone who takes a bite.

      @peakrider4886 very interesting. So the onus is still on the seller to physically see the money in their own account, but I can understand how people could get tricked by the bank acting as an intermediary. But a bank would never do that surely!

    • @peakrider4886
      @peakrider4886 7 місяців тому

      @@TheRandomWatchDude no I don’t believe a bank would do this. There are services like Escrow that I believe Chrono 24 use, that hold the money until the buyer verifies they have the watch they bought and it’s as described. In all the attempted scams I’ve seen, one of the telling signs is the email address used by the so-called bank. But you are right, I’d never let a watch leave my possession until money was secure.

    Top tip. Make me think that those of us with accounts on selling platforms with saved bank details probably should be checking them in case they've been changed by nefarious sorts.

    Just a note... Ebay (at least in the UK) does not charge anything for authentication. The partner company who deals with it is one of the most reputable in the watch industry... in my opinion, that's the safest option you have when you are buying online.
