I remember listening to this song in 4th grade, not fully grasping the meaning of the lyrics. Then, one day I finally saw the video on BET, and the meaning dawned on me. And then I got a really sad, gloomy, sinking feeling in the bottom of my stomach, realizing the magnitude of pain that women have to endure, sometimes just to hear a man utter 3 words to us, no matter how false those words are. I also recognized Canibus for the lyrical genius he was that day. This was a song with a compelling message and Canibus brilliantly laid out his bars like he was telling a story. Oh how I miss Hip Hop.
