    This is just a masterpiece! I remember listening to this song on the school bus in 1994, but not really understanding the power of the lyrics. My mom was beaten by her first husband but when she went to the police station they told her to go home and wouldn't help her because it was the 1960's and she was married to the person who beat her. 😭😭😭

    Heard this message as a 11 yr old when it was playing on MTV..the standard it gave me for how I should be treated as a woman in a relationship I think has made me have better relationships with men ..more than I think I would have had I not heard this song. I think I dodged a lot of unnecessary hardship and can stand up and know my worth when it really counts, and I’m really grateful for that.     In my early 20s there was a club called "Stereo" where we would always party. They played exactly this kind of music, basically the whole old school hip hop era. This was over 10 years ago now, which already feels like an eternity for me. I miss these times so bad. This song just took me back

    Damn.. this song still makes me feel like a strong black woman....too bad ima Rican dude. Ok no one is gonna see this comment but real talk for a second. In 1990 my mother died, I was just a small lad and to this day I don't know why but Ms Latifah came to my grandmother's home in irvington just outside Newark NJ to pay her respects. It was a small gesture that stuck with me. Taught me a few things that I carry today....so whenever I can do something small or seemingly insignificant for someone else...I take that opportunity....
