The legendary John Taylor brings the FUNK to this one on the bass. I never realized how much of a genius player this man is until rather recently - It was all just part of the D/D songs to me until I came to really appreciate the bass!
John Taylor's bass is instantly recognizable as a huge part of the DD sound. But honestly, they were all great and when I was a high school kid in the early-mid 80s, I was so in love.
John Taylor is my favorite Bass players of all time. He inspired so many bass players that came after him. I can't wait to see them again in concert in Texas in just a couple more weeks! :) I saw my first DD video at my Cousin's house.. he had MTV... "Is there something I should know". But I had heard them many times on the radio before that. I'm a proud owner of every single vinyl LP from Duran Duran to Big Thing. After that I switched to CD's. But throughout every song, John's Bass is unmistakable.
@@raymondmassie4898 I had one as well. I have a picture of me when I was 15 with the fedora on and a big bouff of hair, with a skinny braid like Alannah Currie from Thompson Twins used to wear. Man, I thought I was the COOLEST.
"Wild Boys" and the James Bond theme " A View To A Kill" are my favorite if you haven't reacted to those. I saw them at Six Flags over Georgia back in the 80's and the people went crazy when someone pointed out that they were riding one of the roller coasters. Girls were passing out at their concert and had to be carried out.
@@bodynhand Did you go? Did you see them ride the Scream Machine? The girls we went with wouldnt ride any rides because they didnt want to get their hair messed up in case Simon saw them. He was with whatever model he dating at the time. Erasure opened for them. Within a month we also saw Madonna with Level 42 at the Omni.
Hey guys, "Save a Prayer" has to be the next in line for Duran Duran. A much slower song than you're used to, but has one of the most beautifully shot videos featuring the coastline of Sri Lanka.
Was one of the most expensive music videos of all time, save a prayer. 40 years , the locations were very indirect to get to. Thus, making it expensive, just to get to the locations in the first place!
Pay attention to the bass line. As a guitarist and not a bassist, I honestly put John Taylor in my top 3 favorite bassists of all time. His bass lines make many of these songs that most people don't even notice. Duran Duran is legendary.
I was just listening to this thinking how great the bass was! Back in the 80's, I was too busy looking at his face to notice how great a bass player he was!
Ordinary world is a wonderful Duran Duran song or view to a kill ( from a James bond movie soundtrack). Lead singer ( simon le bon ) ( actually he married a fashion model, yasmin le bon )
This is the song that started it all for me back in ‘82 and got me hooked! Fast forward 40 years and they’re still my favorite band! This is actually the edited version of this video! Y’all should definitely watch the unedited version, but you won’t be able to react to it and most definitely make sure the kiddos don’t see it!! Back around ‘84 when the video lp came out, I used my very first paycheck I’d ever earned to buy it! Unfortunately, at the time, we only had 1 vcr in the house, so I ended up watching it with my parents! I thought alright, no problem! Until the unedited version of GOF came on! Between that and the video to the Chauffeur, I was mortified to say the least!! My Dad’s only comment to me was “well at least you know where the fast forward button is”. 🤦🏼♀️ It didn’t help in the moment, but every time I think back on it, I can laugh and truly appreciate what a cool Dad I had! I can’t wait to see more DD reactions!

Their first album, Duran Duran, was the first album (LP) I bought. I was 16 at the time. Still have it. I was sooo in love with that band! Thank you for your reation.
Love Amber's ability to find insights. DD's best song for me, though it's spoiled a bit with this version once you've seen the full version (not shown much at the time due to adulty content but surely its on UA-cam - this version seemed like only 2 and a half minutes, but the other version is much longer too - my memory says maybe 6 minutes+).
You may be thinking of the Night Version of Girls On Film, which is essentially the 12" extended mix. Called Night Version, as were all their 12" mixes, as they were designed to be played in clubs but in this case also because the video was banned from daytime TV in the UK...

Another great band from my home city of Birmingham UK 🇬🇧. This makes me all very nostalgic for the early 1980s as I was growing into adulthood. Best of theirs for me though is The Chauffeur and Planet Earth Thank you both
Listen to that bass funk!!! Been such a huge fan of theirs since I was 6 or 7 years old! I'll be 50 this summer, and the 80s were the GREATEST music decade of all time. Growing up in that era was friggin EPIC!!
Great choice. This was their first single to make a splash. It wasn't until their second album, which produced "Hungry Like the Wolf" that they took over the world, MTV, and the airwaves. I think you'd really love "Save a Prayer", "New Moon on Monday", and if you want something off their recent 40th anniversary album, do "Anniversary". They haven't lost a step in four decades.
LOL the unedited version you had to go to the video store and rent on VHS because there was nudity so MTV played the shorter edited version but still another cool song with an epic bass line from John Taylor.
The original video of Girls On Film was never meant for TV. It was made for American nightclubs. Then later, MTV became a channel on cable TV and to show Girls On Film, they had to edit the video
Ordinary World is the best thing they ever did in my opinion. Amazing lyrics and a lead guitar that cries out and sounds lonely and sad... The most adult musical effort from them
Have you reacted to "Ordinary World"? Their gorgeous huge 90s come back hit? Simon Le Bon is the singer. Watch their James Bond hit "A view to a Kill" and you won't forget "My name is Bon, Simon Le Bon"'s name... 😅
I've been lucky enough to see them in concert 35+ times, and have made deep, lifelong friendships with some of my fellow Duranies. My favorite song of theirs is Ordinary World. It's gotten me thru some pretty tough times. They'll be touring the US again at the end of this month.
This is from their 1981 debut album, and their second single. I was lucky enough to see them in 1983, during the 'Seven and the Ragged Tiger' tour, I was a kid and right before high school. Fun times!
This is their third single from their debut album. They released Planet Earth (Feb 2, 1981), Careless Memories (Apr. 20, 1981) and Girls On Film (Jul. 13, 1981). Their tour in 1983-84 was called Sing Blue Silver Tour, which was to support Seven And The Ragged Tiger. 😊
This song was before "Hungry like the Wolf" and was part of their "New Romantic" era. By the way they have two Videos for this and one was so risque MTV banned it!
Great reaction! Their song Rio is a good video and they did a song for the James Bond movie A View To A Kill. There was another video that was popular, it used CGI and the song is called Reflex. The song Save A Prayer is about hoping you didn’t catch AIDS after a one night stand.
This is off their 1st ablum...we need y'all to visit this album. So much bass and a quite a bit edgier....perfection!💋 "Careless Memories, Friends of Mine, Night Boat"....really the whole album is a buy. ~Love you guys from the ATX❤
It was called the 2nd British wave at the time. Although there were many British bands throughout the 80's with hits Duran Duran kinda lead the way. The girls loved the pretty boys and all their songs were catchy. They were another band on constant rotation on MTV. They were actually killer musicians!
Everytime I hear this band it always takes me back to sixth grade, and hearing and seeing the girls go goo goo over Duran Duran! They would come in with all the band garb book covers, folders, notebooks, backpacks, and apparel! If they made it these 6-8 girls had it or were going to get it! They would also be singing their songs any chance they could get away with it! I remember at that time I thought they were just crazy girls, but now I just get a warm feeling about the kids of our generation and how simple we had it in comparison to today's kids! And yes I imagine the book cover reference really ages me, do they even do that anymore?
Got to love some Duran Duran, other bangers from them worth checking out, Save a Prayer, Wild Boys and Notorious. Fun fact they got their name from a character in the Sci-fi movie Barbarella staring Jane Fonda.
Amber, you are spot on! This song is about the exploitation of women in the fashion industry. The members are: Simon LeBon - vocals, Nick Rhodes - Keyboards, John Taylor - Bass, Andy Taylor - Lead Guitar, Roger Taylor - Drums. The 3 Taylor's are not related. They were my first loves and I worshipped all they did! I had over 800 pictures, posters, and clippings of them plastered all over my room (walls, doors, ceiling, furniture). I still have my 66 buttons, bandannas, programs from the concerts I attended, vinyl LPs, 12" singles, 45's, books, CDs..... I loved them! Save A Prayer, New Religion, Planet Earth, Friends of Mine, Careless Memories, The Seventh Stranger are all amazing songs.
Union of the Snake , or Wild Boys will hook you both from first note to the last note. Simon LeBon is the singer , married to Yasmin LeBon the model. Might have even been inspiration behind this song.
Just plugging for more DeBarge. Gotta whole catalog to catch. 80s. Motown Sound. El is literally the best falsetto ever. Yet second best in his family.
Duran Duran are an amazing band. They could experiment and explore with so much, and in the last 40 years, they have done just that. However, you will almost always know it’s them. Now for the most part, you’ve done a lot of the 80s heyday DD, which could be why you are hearing the same sound and style, but this band has some surprises in store for you. Jay might even get some new favs. Let’s try some after the breakup 80s DD when there were only 3 of the 5 original members. Next one, trust me on this…Notorious and/or I Don’t Want Your Love. 😉 Btw; Simon LeBon- vocals Nick Rhodes- Keys John Taylor- bass Andy Taylor-guitar Roger Taylor- drums None of the Taylors are related.
A great reaction, thank you. This was early in their career. You should check out, 'Is There Something I Should Know?', Simon Le Bon is the lead singer by the way.
I was so into Duran Duran in the 80's (and still am). My favorites that you haven't listened to are "Save A Prayer" (much slower) ua-cam.com/video/6Uxc9eFcZyM/v-deo.html , "I Don't Want Your Love" ua-cam.com/video/TAAC9wttHM8/v-deo.html , "The Chauffeur" ua-cam.com/video/1B__8N5d_LA/v-deo.html (very different) , or their James Bond theme "A View to a Kill" ua-cam.com/video/Fp4CR2HcHLQ/v-deo.html
Yep, Duran Duran's "Girls on Film" is unquestionably about the reality of women within the modelling, & various female-oriented entertainment industries; no doubt the hurdles these women face in a fight regarding monetary relevancy. Aesome reaction, as usual!
Duran Duran WERE the eighties! They were the best of the eighties New Wave/New Romantic era! This is very early Duran2 and they really understood the importance of video in the MTV generation. They had the hottest and most popular videos. They had an extended version of this video that could only be played after hours on MTV because it was so sexually provocative! Simon Le Bon is the lead singer, John Taylor is the base player, Nick Rhodes is the keyboardist, Roger Taylor is the drummer, and Andy Taylor was the original lead guitarist (none of the Taylors are related). They will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year 2022, FINALLY! I am a lifetime Duranie and have been since I first saw them as a teen in the early eighties. They have always had the best music and great videos but my favorite is still their eighties music. Check out their videos for, I Don't Want Your Love, Notorious, New Moon On Monday, Save A Prayer, Please Please Tell Me Now, The Chauffer, and the James Bond hit, A View To A Kill! 💖💖
I have loved Duran Duran and in particular Simon Le Bon since I was a teen in the eighties. So, it was awesome to see them live, in concert at Hyde Park here in London three weeks ago…and to see them still commanding the stage and performing with as much energy as they’ve always had. It was EPIC! I’m so glad you are enjoying them. ♥️
Lead singer: Simon LeBon, Bass: John Taylor, Guitar:Andy Taylor, Drums: Roger Taylor, Synthesizers: Nick Rhodes. The Taylors are not related. The sounds on this song showcase the genius of Duran Duran, listen to the guitar riffs, the bass, the synthsized sounds, the drums, and of course Simon's vocals. Simon is not the world's best singer, but listen to the lyrics and look up the lyrics to their other songs, these guys were not appreciated as they should have been in the 80s when they were most popular. Love watching your reactions! Thanks for showcasing Duran Duran. After decades, these guys are still killing it! Just saw then in Atlantic City, and will see them again in NYC on Halloween!
3:25 The song is about the unique life of supermodels. Their carefree lives of riches, parties, and privilege. The writer laments that he’s not wealthy, which he feels is the only type of man a model will consider dating. He’s giving himself reasons why models’ circumstances make them unattainable to most men. They’re beautiful, famous, and independently-rich. As such they don’t need to depend on a man for much.
one of my fave duran duran tunes because it's so catchy and dancy. many catchy tunes carry a surprisingly heavy message, and this one is about the exploitation and regret in, let's say, a certain industry.
I cant tell you to many times look at the video and song , Keep on lovin me by the whispers!!! Favorite brothers from Oakland back in the day :) They re the best brothers of all time !!
So I was obsessed with Duran Duran! I would stand in front of my TV when their videos were common MTV and scream at the top of my lungs my mom would be like why are you screaming you can’t even hear the music. I was in love with this band my bedroom was covered wall to ceiling with Duran Duran posters, prince who was everything to me And Adam Ant.
Listen to "Get it On" by the Power Station featuring Robert Palmer, John and Andy Taylor (both Duran Duran guitarists) and Tony Thompson on drums. You won't be disappointed!!
Save A Prayer, Ordinary World, Rio, so many great Duran Duran songs. SO GLAD YOU WATCH THE VIDEOS. Duran Duran is the perfect mix of sound and visuals. 😁❤️
You could never go wrong with them! My all time favorite band since they hit the US! Great reaction, try finding & watching the night/naughty version of this song. MTV would only play after a certain time at night. 😉
Can't believe your boy J hasn't really mentioned the bass as much DD as they have reacted to. John Taylor was a Super heart throb in the 80's but also a very under rated bassist
I love the juxtaposition of the harsh, mechanical camera sound that is an iconic part of this song with the titles suggestion of beauty and sensuality. An great Duran Duran track that when hearing those cameras go off can be instantly recognised and signal just a great party mood song.
This was my band in the 80’s. Still hit their concerts when they hit the road. As if a few years ago, they were still putting on awesome shows and sound amazing.
Simon LeBon is the lead singer. John Taylor is the bass guitar. Roger Taylor plays the drums. Nick Rhodes plays the keyboard. Andy Taylor plays lead guitar.
Since you’re in that Duran time period, would love to see your reaction to “Planet Earth”, the first Duran Duran song I ever heard and completely sounded like nothing I had ever heard before.
If you can manage, Duran Duran is appearing in concert in a couple of weeks, August 30th, in Fort Worth Texas. I've seen them before in concert and they are fantastic. Simon Le Bon STILL has that voice! John Taylor is one of the GOATS on the Bass Guitar. They are FINALLY getting inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this October!

Great reaction! Their song Rio is a good video and they did a song for the James Bond movie A View To A Kill. There was another video that was popular, it used CGI and the song is called Reflex. The song Save A Prayer is about hoping you didn’t catch AIDS after a one night stand.
New religion of the rio album a must.
💯💥
This is off their 1st ablum...we need y'all to visit this album.
So much bass and a quite a bit edgier....perfection!💋
"Careless Memories, Friends of Mine, Night Boat"....really the whole album is a buy.
~Love you guys from the ATX❤
This song is played in more fashion shows around the world than any other song ever made.
I remember the uncensored version. I would stay up late and watch it on rage.
Amber and Jordan, Billy Joel,-(For the Longest Time) 1983. It's a unique song from him. And right down your alley. Keep up with the good work 😎👍
Great song 🎵 🥰
Oh happy day! You got back to some Duran Duran. A super classic! One of my top 3 favorite bands EVER! More Duran
Duran PLEASE!!!
Just plugging for more DeBarge.
Gotta whole catalog to catch. 80s. Motown Sound. El is literally the best falsetto ever. Yet second best in his family.
Duran Duran is just amazing ❤ early 80's memories come rushing back.
Ordinary World is my favorite DD song.Have a listen,it is very thought provoking in its simplicity.😍✌️
The bass playing. John Taylor. Amazing bass player/ bass line writing.
Btw;
Simon LeBon- vocals
Nick Rhodes- Keys
John Taylor- bass
Andy Taylor-guitar
Roger Taylor- drums
None of the Taylors are related.
Yes!!! to "Notorious" or even "Skin Trade" for funky Duran2!!!
@@mariflame1821 Love Skin Trade. Definitely doesn’t sound like typical DD, but then again, there’s no such thing.
My first favorite Duran Duran song!!!!!!!!!
For fun, you should do @planet earth” by Duran Duran. It was their first video. Cool song
The band's name is Slave, the name of the song is "Snapshot". New group, and a great 80's dance song.
A great reaction, thank you. This was early in their career. You should check out, 'Is There Something I Should Know?', Simon Le Bon is the lead singer by the way.
This lead singer is one of those you didn't recognize on "We Are The World".
Great band. One of my favs!
Please react to "Roll the Bones" from Rush. The rap in the middle is awesome!
Rush was probably a top 3 band on this channel awhile back and it seems like for some reason they have gotten away from them a bit.
Is There Something I should Know? - their first number one hit.
This is the song that that put Duran Duran on the map! I was around in the 80s my friend. Everything that followed was just extra
duran Duran Night Version Girls on Film, "New Moon On Monday , "Is There Something I Should Know", My Own Way Version Night ,good tracks band of U.K.
Man I love this song and have since it came out! Wider baby smile and you just made a million!
I love Duran Duran! Their songs are so much fun! You just want to get up and dance!
I'm sitting by Newfound Lake this evening, and this song was definitely a staple when I spent summers on this lake as a teen!
John Taylor always plays awesome bass..
Duran Duran ROCKS!!! 80's RULE
It's hard to believe that the 80's was actually edgier than 2023. I feel like we just reverted back to the Victorian era.
This song, New Moon on Monday, and Save A Prayer are my favorite DD songs. Thanks for doing this one.
This is early Duran Duran, amazing video for the day!
One of my faves from them. Off their first album 😀
Yes they have a sound and a lot of it also comes from John Taylor on bass. Great song!!! This video is the PG version, there's a night version......
Duran Duran was Princess Diana's favorite band.
Yep!
My favorite Duran Duran song. They made a uncensored version of his music video.
I used to listen to Duran Duran all the time, some others to check out are Planet Earth, Wild Boys, Is There Something I Should Know, Save A Prayer & New Moon On Monday. 🙂🙂🙂
Duranie here since 1984. Love them . My husband's favorite is also Hungry like the Wolf.
I love Duran Duran! This takes me back to my college days. I was in love with John Taylor. You gotta check out Save a Prayer and Planet Earth.
Duran Duran are from Birmingham here in England.Home of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games and did a set in the ceremony in the city where their 40 year musical career began.
One of my absolute 80’s playlist must have, is pretty much anything by Duran Duran
Love Duran x2, had tickets to see them in 1985, car died on the way there. They were $12 each still have them. 😁😘
