    Hi Guy's, I have been watching your videos for a while. Great content by the way. I have just purchased a 2001 Yamaha Bear Tracker 250. I paid 2,000 for it. This is my first ATV. I had it serviced and gone over at my local garage. He said the machine was in good condition for the year. I put new tires on it for 375.00. It is 2 wheel drive but i have taken her into some soup and she has not failed me yet. My Son has a brute force 750 and we are planning a trip to the Hatfield and McCoy trails this summer. I am new to this sport but i have fallen in love with it. Ty for doing what you do.

    Rule 1....if it has a snorkel don’t buy it !!. Rule 2....if it has a snorkel don’t buy it!!! AJ makes a good point too. If the surroundings in the pictures look like a junkyard don’t buy it. If they can’t take care of their damn yard they certainly didn’t maintain their machines

    Nice to see a lot a different brand suggestions... why don’t you guys do that more in general. It seems like 90% of DT content is can-am and Polaris.

    • @dirttraxtv
      @dirttraxtv  4 роки тому +1

      If I'm being honest we do a lot with Can-Am, Polaris, CF Moto, Yamaha and Honda as they are the ones who do more sponsorship so we need to cover off more of their products. But CA and Polaris also send us a lot of vehicles to test, so it makes it easier for us to get out and do content on whatever is here on the ground. But I'll do my best to keep it as generic as possible and cover all the bases. Thanks for watching, we appreciate it ~AJ

    A Hondamatic in a Rubicon that won't move....run for the hills. Those were the hydro trans that were boat anchors when they failed. Also, the Polaris 550, they all have a bad knock, usually from the rubber trans to engine dampener. They all go bad due to the nut going loose. Easy fix, but good deals can be had because the engines sound like they are done.

    Last year I bought a 86 Yamaha Moto 200, for $250 as a project to rebuild with my nephew. 6 months of working on 1 day a weekend and it was up and running. Spent almost $750 in parts. Tires were biggest expense four dirt devil's. Replaced most jis fasteners with cap hex bolts. Rebuilt carb, used eBay parts to fix / replace broken parts. Choke cable was 80, front brake cable 45, cheap amazon ignition that swapped plastic connector.....

    • @dirttraxtv
      @dirttraxtv  4 роки тому

      Nice! I love projects like that. Like you mentioned though, the obscure parts that are hard to find can be as much or more than a new ATV's same part. But all in all i love seeing something old come back to life again. Theres just nothing like it. I was gonna email the guy about the Moto 4 but it's sold already, maybe I helped him sell it lol. ~AJ

    How important is the title for a atv? I’m looking at one but the guy dosent Have the title but he would give me a bill of sale, does not having the title make the quad worth less?

    • @dirttraxtv
      @dirttraxtv  4 роки тому

      If you're planning to use it on the trails where insurance is required it's really important. Your insurance company won't insure it without a title in your name either. If your just using it on your own property and don't want insurance then it could be fine but down the road you could find out it was stolen. If it's really really old it's probably just a case of it being lost, if it's a newer ATV I'd steer clear. Just my 2 cents worth ~AJ

      Surprisingly harder to find them in decent shape online. Seems there are a lot of older 400 Outlanders beat to death and a boat load of 650/800's that have been mud run to middle earth but clean ones in good repair seem to be less frequent. I literally just went through the first couple hundred vehicles in my search criteria and i didn't see hardly any. I'm guessing all the good ones have been bought up because they are a great ATV, Id buy one..... well we did with the mud build and i learned a lot about them. ~AJ

    • @dirttraxtv
      @dirttraxtv  4 роки тому

      The Arctic cats are actually very reliable ATV's, they lacked a little technology, power and suspension suppleness but they made up for it in ground clearance and a pretty strong and reliable driveline. Sounds like you've got a pretty good deal right there. Now in response to -work hard- you can't go wrong with a Yamaha for sure, however don't expect to pay the same price as a used Arctic cat. You'll spend a fair bit more for the same comparable unit. It will be more reliable but if you're not abusing this Arctic cat and keeping it clean and maintained it's going to be great for you. ~AJ

    • @dirttraxtv
      @dirttraxtv  4 роки тому

      I think you can find a good ATV for that price, look for a 500/550 though. If your not super advanced stick with a properly sized ATV, you can still go everywhere your friends go and truthfully the smaller displacement ATV's seem to be really good at holding their value so your not going to lose out when you get a bit more experienced and would like a bigger engine. Don't feel bad spending even less and having something a few years older than you originally thought, look for low miles, something thats clean and well taken care of and you'll be surprised how good ATV's in the 2005-2010 range can be. ~AJ

    Great Video AJ. I purchased a 2005 Suzuki 500 4x4 two years ago for $2300. It needed a frame and all suspension work / brakes and bearings. I've done all the work but parts are extremely pricey on these old units. I should have pulled the plug on this before sinking alot of money, however after I rode it I fell in love with it. I'm now rebuilding the engine So i can keep it for a longer time. In total I am at $6500.00 and it's basically new. It brings me great joy in riding and wrenching and is super reliable now. Keep up the great vids. :)

    • @dirttraxtv
      @dirttraxtv  4 роки тому

      Thanks for the comment, love to hear about your rebuild. I've been there, started into a project and looked at the receipts to realize I'm way further down the road than i expected. Sometimes those are good lessons because you'll just hold onto it for longer and really get your enjoyment out of it. Sounds like your doing that now with the engine rebuild. Keep it up, that thing will probably last forever now! ~AJ

    Unrelated to the video but do you have any insider info on weather yamaha is going to bring back the banshee or atleast a new pure sport bike?

    • @dirttraxtv
      @dirttraxtv  4 роки тому

      Great question, right now we have not heard anything on that front. I know the manufacturers all say the pure sport market is dead and sales are almost zero so I'm guessing they aren't very excited to pull the trigger on that one. However I do think there would be many Banshee lovers who would want one, however in this market if they brought it back in 4 stroke clothes I don't know how well it would be received. In my mind the Banshee will always be a 2 stroke, I hope they wouldn't mess with that DNA. ~AJ

    • @john-michaelmcdermott5050
      @john-michaelmcdermott5050 4 роки тому

      @@dirttraxtv I agree the banshee should always be a two stroke and the reason I believe that the market for them is dead is because there hasn't been a new sport bike to come out in what feels like a century it's just the same bikes with different plastics every year with minor changes done. Best example is the raptor 700

    Thanks for the insight. What would you reccomend as rental SxS? I have a cabin rental business on the Hatfield McCoy trails and looking to expand into rentals.

    • @dirttraxtv
      @dirttraxtv  4 роки тому +5

      Ohhh good question. I do know that a few of the manufacturers have programs to sell rental units at a lower price as they want folks to be in their brands. However I would suggest number one be a good local dealer because lets be honest, renters break stuff lol. So making sure your local dealer is good, gets parts on time and has competent mechanics who you can trust would be first on my list. From there it'll be use and price. The base RZR, base Maverick Trail or Yamaha Wolverine are great 2 seat choices. If you looking to have a 2 seat and 4 seat then you could always grow to a second unit with the Yamaha and Polaris. The Can am you'll have to go to the Maverick Sport to get a 4 seat Max, but the sport is a really really nice vehicle. The Maverick sport also comes with Doors and that can be a pro and a con, as the doors keep people safer but they can also get beat up. But rental agreements always have stipulations about damage so if it gets damaged you'll get paid. Now the Width is also something to consider, for those who don't ride often a wider rig can mean extra safety (can also mean extra confidence...... and then a bigger crash) sorry not to be negative but ya gotta look at all the angles when it comes to renting right. There is also the utility market that offers some great riding and larger capacity vehicles at good width and stability, The Defender Max, the Ranger Crew and the Yamaha Viking are 3 that come to mind where you could take 6 passengers in one rig and that means a family can go together, so it opens up the rental capabilities. All 3 of those are actually really great on the trails as well and you can take loads of gear along in the box so you could offer a cooler packed lunch or similar for an uncharge. Hope that helps to some degree but I'd be looking at the dealership options first then the use and capacity second. From there you'll have a few options and I'd be happy to help out in any ways I can once you nail those down. ~AJ
