Man, there is a video you and Tyler did about buying used ATV and Side by Side. I had sent that video to anybody I know that was shopping for used. another awesome video
I will add one more tip if i may. Around here at least, over the past few years, there has been an influx of "Covid riders" as in, people who have flooded the markets with new sales of ATV's and SXS's because of travel restrictions or whatever caused them to suddenly have a wad of cash in thier pocket. Many of them who are unfarmiliar with the concept of maintainence as you mentioned, have little to no experience in ownership and what it takes to properly break-in thier new machine. They just want to get up and go, no warm up, no break in, bad shifting/start/stop practices, overheated due to a pluged rad.... Now that things are lifted, the market is starting to see 1 to 2 year old machines close to MSRP pricing. What you're ending up with is a machine that was thrashed internaly but the outward looks of the machine doesnt have enough time or terrain that it shows how it was actually treated. Ask questions to the owner, ask to see receipts of service, the first service especially, where did they ride...sneak in sentances like "so how much does the typical service cost?" If the answer comes back "don't worry about it, it's practically new!" That would be a hard pass for me.
Great tips, an issue I’ve discovered in my area is that pretty much 99.9% will sell at MSRP no matter the year or mileage. I went new and I know at least it didn’t get wreaked in the mud.
Just traded an older 08 renegade for a 2016 kodiak, was told it was a 2019....Should have ran the vin then, front brakes didnt work, i thought they just needed pads, i didnt bother looking. Turns out its missing a front caliper, i felt so stupid
I subbed because of this video. I grew up riding in a bunch of no title trail YJ wranglers. Got my first pickup and stayed on Honda 4 wheelers then street bikes. I’ve been back and forth on a sxs but this video showed it’s not much different than most atvs. Guess I was overthinking a bit again. Rad videos keep them up, I’ll keep watching them now lol. All that said, do you recommend anything that would be relatively cheap (preferably used) for a first sxs? I’ll be riding the SE US so maybe something solid in the mud and water too. I’ve seen some wildcat 1000 (2014/2016) around my area that are decently priced, but I’m completely new to the sxs game. I’ll look through your vids to see if you’ve touched on this before. Thanks for the time and keep rocking 🫡
Thanks for watching & subbing my friend! I would recommend Can-am or Yamaha if you’re looking for a used SXS, there’s no perfect unit out there but some brands are way more maintenance intensive. I also hear good things about CF Moto which would be a cheaper price range unit. Feel free to hit me up if you have any more questions about a used unit. 👍🏼
I recently bought another machine, but first time I've ever went used for these very reasons. But I thought they were a reputable dealer. First, when I asked to drive it, I was told for "insurance reasons" I could not, but they could ride me in it. I know other dealers that have tracks for you to ride before buying. But I work in risk management, so I bit on it, but still perked my senses. Fast forward to doing the paperwork, I bought a three-year extended warranty. THREE different times he stated there was a clause I couldn't make a claim in the first 30 days. THREE different times he stated it did not cover wear items such as "wheel bearings and ball joints". Again, after the repetitiveness, it perked my senses a bit. Then even after completing paperwork and I'm now the owner of the machine, he wouldn't let me load MY machine on the trailer, he did it. Again, a red flag, but I done signed by this point. Took it out the next day, this is when I realized all those perks of my senses that I was writing off as my own paranoia of buying used, were actually legit red flags and I should've listened to my instincts. Before I could ride a second time, I had to replace both front axles, front diff seals, all ball joints, and wheel bearings, as they were all shot, and the shifter/roller pawl. And still believe I have some worn output bearings in the front diff. Just done it all myself and haven't fooled with the warranty (impatience on my part). In the future, I'll just stick to buying new as I always have in the past, or simply do a better job at inspecting the machine as you have, instead of trusting their big name in our area, and listen to my dmn instincts!
You can still find a good used unit, if you aren’t comfortable looking at a used unit you could ask someone that has a good mechanical eye to look at it with you.
🏆🏆🏆🏆🇺🇲🙏 I know people who buy used, and it's disturbing how often the oil was never changed or so low, it doesn't even register on the dipstick. Thank you for sharing
The wait time for parts for a lot of shops is nuts. I have a couple of customer carts that need simple things, that I won't see for weeks, and have been on order for over a month.
It’s crazy for sure! We had one of our Yamaha X2’s in the shop for a broken timing chain guide, the parts were on BO so long that Yamaha just went ahead and replaced the whole engine under warranty instead of waiting on the parts.
Hey Steve, on our X2 X-TR’s we typically run a 28” Sedona Trail Saw tire on a 14” wheel with a +38mm or 6+1 offset which is basically a stock offset. I personally never run wheel spacers, if you need to get a wider stance for the dunes, etc. I would recommend getting the offset you need. If you run a 5+2 it will put your wheels out farther, the draw back to this on the east coast is you will get extremely muddy unless you add fender flares. Keep in mind, the wider you go the more stress and strain you put on your suspension components. Check out this video we did on offset: ua-cam.com/video/46QjcZzY0p0/v-deo.html Thanks for watching my friend… 👍🏼
The market is a lot more expensive out west. I recently sold my 2019 Maverick sport and I got every penny I paid brand new. Had 6,000 miles but I did keep it nice. It never been in mud or water. No scrapes or body damage. You want to make a lot of money put them on a trailer and sell them out here!
I’ve never owned one, I would stick with the more reputable companies, Yamaha, Kawasaki, and Can-am. Those three make great stuff and stand behind their warranties.
Curious as to what happened to make you decide CFMoto is less reputable than the others. I have not come across anything to make me think they are less reputable than the other major players. I think key to all brands is a reputable dealer. Interestingly CFMoto has a one year US warranty where many of the others, such as Yamaha, only have six month warranty.
Hey Brian My wife and I have been looking at moving to Tennessee for years but have never pulled the trigger, could you recommend a small town? We love the mountains, utving , hiking…… and of course town has to be low crime ! Any help would be appreciated
Everything has changed so much over the past five years, it’s hard to say where the best towns are anymore. Especially with the huge influx of Californians to TN…
If you don't know what you're doing, buying used is a roll of the dice , stay away from Polaris. A Yamaha or Kawasaki will outlast them every time, and while this is not always true ,if you can find a seller like my 82 year old dad whose viking is mint ,and well maintained, almost like buying new , we love the Yamaha 's
We decreased the value due to the miles. It’s like a car or truck, the more miles there are, the less the value is. If they had low miles they would bring way more.
Here’s a tip about buying a used SxS Don’t!!! Most guys only sell because they are best pretty bad and they are upgrading But for real. Get it inspected by a reputable dealer. Even if that cost you a few bux. It’s well worth it I got ripped off hard on my first RZR First ride I blew the front diff and low gear. After ripping it apart it needed more work than the machine was worth. Luckily I parted it out and made my money back
@@FishersOffRoad yea, lesson learned, When you aren’t in the hobby you get a false sense that it’s an off-road brotherhood. What tricked me he was a middle age dude. He was a salesman and he sure mislead me. He reminded me of a used car salesman. Ever time I tried to look the machine over he kept showing me the upgrades Thankfully all the aftermarket parts are what helped me recover my $6500

All very good points! Thank you for your input!!! 👍🏼
Kubota sidekicks have defective Subaru engines that contaminate the crankcase with fuel. Beware of low hour used ones with a fresh oil change.
I miss the show Brian!!! My favorite show cause nobody does off road shows !!!!😎💪🇺🇸🙏
I hear ya buddy, I think there may be a couple left.
Great tips, an issue I’ve discovered in my area is that pretty much 99.9% will sell at MSRP no matter the year or mileage. I went new and I know at least it didn’t get wreaked in the mud.
Good choice Jim 👍🏼

don't feel bad. It happens all the time with atv's, SxS and UTV's. Hopefully you got a good price to offset the issues.

Man that sucks! Sorry you experienced all that, what a crappy dealer!!!
I’m so scared to buy used but that’s all I have the money for. My other option is buying a new land master Massimo ect what should I do??

I've got a '21 X2 and have been wanting to square it up. What size tires and wheels do you run, wheel offset, spacers? Thanks. Love the channel.

What size tires u got on there
I think they were 28’s.
@FishersOffRoad thanks

what do you think about the Cfmoto brand ? I'm looking at a Cfmoto zforce 950

Ohhh boy they are going there too! I’ve already crossed off Colorado because they invaded that state!
Did you sell the other unit?
Yes, they both sold within two days of each other. We’ll probably be selling our RMAX4 Limited around July.
Can you recommend a good dealer near you? Columbia, Spring Hill, Franklin, etc?
Sloan’s in Murfreesboro is who we use, they’re great to deal with.
Great information !!
Thanks Gary!
Wish I had the money I can buy the other one
Where did u use them they Pristine!!!!! You are the kind of people worth getting used stuff from regardless of mileage
They were actually two of our guide units for our SXS tours in middle TN. 👍🏼
Great advise!
Thank you Reed!

What I got from this is don’t buy used. If you have the 5 grand to drop then it’s safe to say just make the fricken payments.
Why are you taking such a big hit on these two units??
We decreased the value due to the miles. It’s like a car or truck, the more miles there are, the less the value is. If they had low miles they would bring way more.
