- Replace fan element by removing the dashboard.
Please find an update from Stefano Leone: In the lower right storage compartment, between the compartment and the side panel of the airbag, there is a well-hidden screw.

Thank you for the clear video.
Two additions:
1) it is not necessary to remove the soft leather cover around the gearstick. There is sufficient space to manoeuvre so you can leave it attached.
2) Pay attention when putting it back together. The middle part with the radio goes underneath the large middle bottom part and then you can put the 2 screws back in. So first put the radio block in place and then put the large bottom cover on top.
Took me approx 1 hour. Very easy to do. Saved me approx 400 euro.
Just replaced 3rd times in 6 years ,as always using your howto video, a big thank you for making it, all howto videós should be made this easy to follow, gr8 work, Godbless u👏
Thanks for the valuable tutorial. I just replaced mine last night.
I had to remove 2-3 more screws and the Chineese-made resistor was 1 mm thinner, so I had to skive the fitting part a little.
Very useful, thanks ! The difficult step when doing something like this is knowing where to start. And you save time for others by having made this video. It also helps me finding a vibrating sound inside the gear shift cover. You showed how to open it up...
gunnarMyTube No problems. Thanks.
Thank you sooo much!! Seven years later you still help People to solve this Problem! Great Video! Greetz from Innsbruck, Austria
Glad i could help.
Thank you, Rob!
I followed all the steps and it worked really well!
The heater fan stopped working in the middle of swedish winter :- ( but thanks to this video everything is back running now!
Patric Skog No problem, thanks for your reply
Great video, the fan only ran on full speed no matter the settings. Bought the replacement heater resistor from Amazon for 20£ and followed the video. I worked perfectly. Thank you.
I am glad I could help you!
Thanks Rob, your video helped a lot. It took me more like two hours, but I got there! My car had one additional screw holding the glove compartment lower right side behind the lid hinge. I also disconected the glove box hose as it's only a push fit and I needed the access.
Thanks 👌🏻
Thanks, I also replaced it. It took me 1 hour at all. Great video encouraging to fix 😊
IMPORTANT
You forgot 1 screw down/right
Very good short video. Thx! )))
Thanks for the great video. This is the second time I've had to replace this sensor. I'm glad I'm not paying main dealer prices to get the work done.
I am really thankful to you for making this video. Because of this video I saved another 350 euros. I fixed it by myself for only 20€
Super tutorial. Helped me a lot. Thanks a million!
I followed all the steps and was easy to get to the regulator. THANK YOU. My problem was exactly one point of weld on the largest green connector.
Saludos desde Argentina.

Thanks for this - It will be the 2nd time I have used this video to install a new resistor (before that used Renault garages) - strongly considering not bothering to put screws back in place as we are on our 4th resistor in 8yrs
I am glad it helped. Thanks for your reply.
Great video, Very clearly shown and yes the garage people are looting every day people.
I followed your procedure. At 2:15 I removed two screws which made the lower console move, but I had to remove another two screws hidden behind that before I could move the upper console to get to the screw hidden under it at 2:25.
Because the plug was burnt I had to replace it, took some soldering and screwing.
Total time used: about 2:30 hour.
Probably Renault has some sadists on duty to think of these impossible constructions....
Bart Prins i followed the procedure as in video and had to create the space for the screwdriver using some force. As i can see at my number of views for this video (more than 47000 views), a lot of this cars have the same problems. If your plug was burned also it might have been a problem with water. Better to remove the paravan (you can use google for that) and clean the dewatering points.
Rob van oostveen the paravan is clean, it doesn't seem to be a moisture problem, just a poor connection.
Ok better safe than sorry.
Grote dank!!! Heb exact het instructiefilmpje opgevolgd. Was heel duidelijk en accuraat! Mijn kosten waren € 50.
Great video, thank you !
I found two missing steps (Scenic 2 1,9DCI Latitude - 2006) :
- To move radio panel up (at 02:00) : need to remove two more screws
- There is a "different" screw, oppositing the one at 02:55
Also : because I spend a lot of time with door open, and roof light up, my battery was down ! Do this repair with batterey disconnected :)
Thank you for your comments. Indeed i maybe missed one or two screws but i hope you managed to fix the problem. I always shut down the radio and switch the interior light of when working with an open door. That is a good idea to mention in future video's. Thanks.
Very useful video. I saved a lot of money. 140 € asked me at renault, but that cost me 12 € because I only changed the defective transistor.
Great video! reclaced this part yesterday and my fan is working again :-) You saved me a lot of money !
Hergesoldeerd, probleem opgelost ! Module niet eens hoeven vervangen.
Thanks for the video. My module had a dry solder joint. I resolderd it which solved the problem. I did not even have to replace the unit.
Thanks for the awesome video, did it myself today. Although it was a bit harder than I imagined, still managed. The part itself was 34eur at local dealer.
Super. Thank you for your kind message.
Thanks a lot, took me 45min, but the blower works fine again. Cost 28€ :)
Thanks!!!
My garage told me it would cost €1.500,-
Yes, you forgot this one screw on the right.
Now I will try to put all the stuff back in the right position.
Whoo, that is an expensive garage..
@@robo694 Yes, that´s why we decided not to bring it in.
But luckely my son found the link to this youtube video and everything is working again for only €35,-
Thanks a million! I did it in no time when other tutorials make you disonnect the battery and take off many more parts! (I end up with 3 spare screws... :-)) Loads of money and time saved thaks to you!
Thank you very very much ! You save me a lot of money. Kind regards ! Taxi driver from Serbia :)
De instructie heeft prima gewerkt.
Bedankt voor dit filmpje! Scheelde weer een dikke garagerekening.
geen dank!
Thank you so much for your video, you just saved me 160€, the garage told me we need to take this and that and this, for what 15mn work, thank you
Je hebt me geholpen veel geld te besparen. Erg bedankt hiervoor.
Geen dank
The black tube under the glove compartment is easily removed to improve working space. The glovebox itself is connected to an airtube which easily detaches.
Bart Prins true but i always like minimum work: work always takes to much free time.
Thanks for this. Did the job yesterday. But you forgot one screw! At least in the 2008 grand scenic. Right bottom of glove box when its open.
Yes, thank you for your comment. It has also been noted in the text below the video.
OK - I found two more screws underneath the housing holding the centre panel.
I don't think you made that clear.
Thank you for this very helpful video. Problem solved! 👍
Thank you very much for this film. Outstanding. My AC works very well now. 🌷
Dank Rob voor een geweldig filmpje. Heel duidelijk!!
Mvg, Ramon
Hi Rob, great video. I know that you changed the resistor pack but I am looking to replace the fan/ventilator motor unit as the bearing has gone and it is making a nasty rattling sound when he heater/blower is on ( high and low speeds). Is the fan blower motor unit the black box ( with white label on it) to the top left as you pan the video to the resistor pack? Thanks and cheers. Andy
+Andrew Hunt Vodopivec i think you mean the small unit at 4:16 in the video. I do not think that is the blower but more some kind of servo. I do not own a reanault anymore so it is hard to check for you but i think it will be a nasty repair to replace the blower.
Dank u zeer , heeft me gered veel geld.
Groeten uit Berlijn
Alfgbln Kein Dank. Viele Grüße aus Holland
I've got everything open, but I can't find the resistor.
I think I have a slightly different model.
It is Right hand drive and has the fuse box inside the glove compartment.
There is a big set of about 5 thick wired going into the fan
Bedankt voor de video. Hier heb ik zeker wat aan.
Thanks man this vid help me very much my first repair by my own with
Thank you so much!very nice guide with all the instructions!!very usefull!
a question . 2:09 is it possible to bring a USB cable from the radio down to the gearstick behind all this plastic? Because I want to make a USB jack next to the gearstick and I don't know if there is space for a cable behind it? Thanks
In my opinion there is plenty space enough for a cable.
hello. my Renault schenic2 fan is not working ever since i took the radio halfway out to read a code on side of radio. i had to use that code in a app that gives u your radio code. radio wasn't working. now the fan is not blowing air. can u give me some advice were to start? thanx
Does removing the glove box work on right hand drive, i have removed the display top and bottom pieces and can see it on the side of the driver? help!
Very awesome. I see you have a good knowledge. can you give me a tip? In my Grand Scenic 2004 the fan works only on lhe 4th level ( manual Switch ) Level 1 - 3 is death. Is it possible that the resistor is the problem? Or maybe something other?
Please excuse my english and thank you
Yes, i am quite sure the resistor is the problem. For a 2004 the resistor is different but there are also clips on youtube to replace for a 2004 scenic.
You don't need to do all that if you just remove the main digital display (the one with your speed and fuel level ect...) and then take that little compartment at the end of the display out. you can then reach through that hole and unscrew the resistor (don't drop the screw driver) and pull the resistor out, I even changed the wiring loom for it aswell. It's fiddly and you have to do it by feel but a lot less disassembling of the car.
Get Schwifty For right hand drive yes but not for left hand drive.
Biiiiig thanks from Ukraine
Great !!! A very useful video.
Thanks a lot !!!
thank you sou much .great video, that video has helped mee to fix my blower resistor.thnx thnx thnx
Great job! Very usefull video-tutorial. Thanks-a-lot. :)
Hello I would like to ask if you know where could be the resistor in Scenic 2008 (ph II") but my ac is manual not automatic and resistor it looks differently when i was buying. Driver seat is left sided. I cannot find my case on UA-cam please help...
This should be the same procedure i guess. I think it should also be located behind the glove cabinet as in the clip. I do not have more experience than this clip i have made and i now have sold my scenic.
+Rob O sadly, I did like you (btw thank you for tutorial) I could't find it. I am afraid that my last option is to remove whole top... I also tried trough the computer, I might saw one of the plug but it is impossible to reach second end of it...
Konrad Bobek you can try www.heaterblowerresistor.co.uk/renaultscenicheaterresistor.html
This is another method if you click on the movie you see another type of resistor wich is mounted just behind the central display.
I have got to 2:04 on the video, but the panel feels bolted in solid. - No movement at all.
I notice the switches are pushed back out of the panel in the video.
How did you do this?
I have read that you have a right hand drive. For this you cannot use these instructions. You can reach the unit by removing the small instrument panel in top. There are also youtube videos available for this right hand replacement of the heater resistor.
Hi Rob,
I thought I had replied to thank you for the info.
I did get to it in the end.
Very difficult to reach.
I had to cut the wires to get it out, then massively difficult to strip the ends and screw on a connector.
Fantastic many thanks 🇬🇧
I often have not much good to say about the english. However your advice and excellent utube saved me a fortune. Thank you thank you. I live in France and could not what the time for you to send and repair, so I ordered on eBay a three times what you charge. Would you like me to send you the old unit so you have stock. Thank you again.
Jonathan Alty he's not English. He's Dutch.
Don't tell him that, now he hates us all again :-( LOL!
good video my 2004's scenic fan just went lol
Looking at the number of time watched thre are a lot of people with the same problem.....
HI rob, do you know how you can test the fan resistor before change it?
your video its great!
thanks for shared it
Frederico, if the blower only runs in full speed the resistor is defect for 100% sure. If the blower does not run at all it is 50% sure. In the last case it can also be a power problem (fuse) or a motor problem. There are ways to test but then you still have to reacht the connector of the resistor so same steps. you can use a voltage meter to test the connector but because of the low price of the resistor in online shops i would personally replace the resistor.
hi i have a 54 plate scenic and the heater only works at odd times making a funny sound as if motor is running slow then cuts out any suggestions please
Sound like a lot of dit in the fan. Better take it to a repair shop. It is not an easy job.
Sound like a lot of dirt in the fan. Better take it to a repair shop. It is not an easy job.
Gelukt, dank je wel voor de video !!!
nice job. You can also replace new transistor on it for only 2€
Thanks man , that really helped me to fix mine , Cherrs 👍
No problem, i am glad i could help.
Thank you for your help!! Nice Video
is it on the same side on a right hand drive car?
There are some comments of nigel west for a right hand drive. It is a different procedure. You can find some tips in the other comments as well.
Thank you 👍
Merci beaucoup vidéo très utile 👍
Are you sure you have to remove the centre part of the console.
Can't you reach the unit by removing only the glove-box and side panel?
Worcester Exchange you have to remove the glove box indeed. However one of the screws which fixes this glove box is behind the radio. To reach this screw you have to remove the center console.
Thanks for the info. I have definitely come to the conclusion that car manufacturers design cars to be put together in the factory and never repaired. If something goes wrong you are meant to throw it away like a disposable lighter.
anyone know how to change a starter motor please on a Renault Scenic 2006 model? Cheers
Anyone know if the same procedure to remove the resistor on the UK right hand drive works? Is the resistor on the opposite side or is it on the same side as the left hand drive?
I do not know but you can ask your local Renault dealer to lookup the drawing in their computer. If you are lucky they are willing to help. The draing is in the resistor replacement procedure which also mentiones the complete removal of the steering wheel, airbag and radio but try to take a good look at the drawing and see for yourself.
If you have found an answer please help and post your finding also here. Thanks!
I have just finished repairing my car! Yes, it is possible on the UK model, but not at all easy. Removing the trim around the steering column and gear stick did not really help a great deal as the steering column and pedals etc. are all in the way. You can get to the resistor from below but its still not clear to work on it from below. I pretty much did everything through the hole behind the instrument trim.
One issue I had was that once the module was removed I still struggled to unplug the main supply wires to it. The bigger of the two connectors was easy to remove, but the smaller connector with just the red and black wire had welded itself in place. This would have been fairly easy to break free but with just one hand it took a lot of effort to break it free. I guess with all the trim removed on the drivers side a second person may have been able to help here from below.
Once removed I could see that the ground pin had got hot and melted the plastic . The pin had also got hot enough to melt the solder between itself and the pcb. This being the reason it failed completely.
I repaired the original module by hacking off the damaged part of the connector. Then I soldered 16awg wires to the resistor pack and fitted an XT60 connector to the other ends.
I then soldered the other half of the connector to some more wires and finally spliced it onto the original loom having cut off the green connector on - not easy as the splice was done inside the dash area.
I glued the torx head screw to the screwdriver bit to stop it dropping off whilst putting it back in. Again not easy the opening in the dash is probably 20mm smaller than my arm. And I now have quite a sore graze on it.
Anyway, it seems to work and the total cost was something like £2 or £3.
Bonus is I also have a spare screw in case I loose one. Not sure where it came from but when putting things back together it seem that you need one less screw!
Super that it works for you and thank you very much for sharing with the world. The thing with the screws dropping of the driver bit always happens to me also. Tape is helping me there to fix the screw to the bit. There are always screws as leftovers. Maybe you can put it on Ebay or someone can bid for it as reply on this UA-cam comments?
Thanks again, Rob
+Nigel West , hi there thanks for the post :) i have just taken the glove box etc out of my UK Scenic, are you saying that the resistor pack is actually o the drivers side on UK models?
Thank you, good work and good video!
No problem. Thanks for your comment.
Hola Amigo.
Desarmar me llevó unos 25 min aprox. Armar 5. Saludos.
Great! just yesterday I replaced the blower resistor on my scenic II. All thanks to your video tutorial!!! Only one thing. In the lower right storage compartment, between the compartment and the side panel of the airbag, there is a well-hidden screw.
drive.google.com/file/d/0B_GLdG8hXPPFRzFvbl9aZ2pLNkk/view?usp=sharing
The power connector to blower by the time crumbles for heat.
Stefano Leone Thanks for this image. I really missed that one filming.
Make sure the screw does not drop between the carpet and the chassis :-\
this a scenic...i have megane...the same?

I'm straggling to get hold of megane 2006 model fuse box for fans
Sorry i can't help you with that. Anyone else here???
Thank you so muche.
Laurent Tilmant you’re welcome.
Bedankt Rob!
Geen dank!
If it's a UK car it's even easier, take the cowl off from the central LCD display ( speedometer ), on the right there is a hole just big enough to get a hand in, the unit is roughly behind where the radio station display is, just need a torx socket and driver to remove, nothing else needed, takes 10 minutes, I done this just before all this Corona business kicked off
beste rob,
Welk bouwjaar was jouw scenic?
Gr.
2007
Geen probleem, succes
Super!!!!
It works for a Scenic 2008, step by step, just 1 thing. At 3.50 the screw is removed, but there is also a screw at the bottom of the compartment at the right side underneath by the door, i took a picture of it dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1852715/20160531_172031.jpg
Then the dashboard compartment can be removed easy.
Thanks a million Rob O (at least thanks a 450 Euro :)
Great!
very nice proof how to place parts that need service to be serviceable the hardest possible way. Thumbs up to Rob O, thumbs down to Renault.
Great Vid! Wish Had Seen Sooner! Garage just Charged My wife £200 To FIX! BASTARDS! Why Hasnt Renault Put A Recall for this Total fault????
john Baldock Guess they want to earn money......
