Tack on college or trade school debt, a car payment and mortgage at some point, some crappy bosses and unfair job politics (whether one is a doctor, lawyer, investment banker or one is an hourly machinist), and most of realize that Life is not easy or always fun or pain-free... I wish that we could instill in our U.S. kiddos a better sense of resilience. A vast majority of us are going to hit rock bottom at some point in our lives, but the answer to that depression or alienation can never be that we take out our emotions on one another. My youngest son just started college a few weeks ago but graduated high school this past May. He seemed fine until all schools were shut down due to Covid a few years ago. That is when he became very depressed, holed himself up in his room and then tried to commit suicide 2 years ago. MY SON IS ONE OF THOSE STUDENTS THAT NEVER HARDLY SPEAKS NOW! My heart breaks for him. Over this past year, his senior year, he would always text me to come meet him in the parking lot for lunch and I would bring him something to eat while we sat there for 30 mins in the car. His reason??? He said he didnt have any friends and didnt want to sit alone in the cafeteria. That statement ripped my soul out for my kid yall!!! His "friends" ditched him after the suicide attempt and spending a week commited because of it. They never came back around and he in turn shut EVERYBODY out. He will not even talk to his Dad or I any more unless he wants or needs something. He just started to see a new therapist because it is suspected that he may have borderline personality disorder. My reason for this comment is this. Parents have to be vigilant! I spoke to the counselor and assitant principal at his high school but that got me nowhere. I have medicated him but then he slept ALL THE TIME. Now we are seeing this new therapist. There is not ONE day since all this started that I havent secretly prayed to God that OUR SON, who was once a sweet, loving, laughing little boy who somehow lost his smile and joy, didn't become the NEXT shooter. We kept things hidden out of his reach but at the end of the day, if someone wants to harm someone else, they will find a way. I feel society and schools have failed my son but his Dad and I have never once faltered or left his side through all of this and I will never give up trying to get him help so he can find his inner happiness again. Prayers to all the families, the victims and YES the 14 yr old boy who did this and will now be tried as an adult. His life is forever ruined now too and I cry inside thinking of what inner torment he must have been going through to commit such an act. We need to ALL be teaching our kids to live and respect one another but how can they learn that when so many see all of us as adults at each others throats for so many stupid reasons now. The republivans vs the democrats, the black vs the white, the religious vs the non-religious. I could go on forever but this poison that has seeped within the blood of America has got to be eradicated! Love your child and teach them to love others.

I would like to clarify, because there seems to be a misunderstanding, the student that was going to let him in did not see the gun. My daughter that was sitting next to the door is the one that seen the gun and screamed gun, he has a gun, at which point the student and teacher then jumped away from the door. They were inches away from opening the door until my daughter screamed that.
My daughter does not wish to be interviewed, she does not want fame or recognition but when she seen that other student taken credit, it pissed her off because that girl did not save them, the exact opposite by almost opening the door.
You can find on other platforms where students in the classroom posted pictures of my daughter praising her for saving them. I take pride in her because I taught my daughter gun safety while my wife teaches the kids to always pay attention to the surroundings. This knowledge is what allow my daughter to identify the situation and save her classmates and herself. Not the girl taking credit that is the one that almost got them sot for opening the door.
My daughter also seen that colt was struggling with his bag that appeared to be heavy and bulky. He was having issues trying to get it over his shoulder. She told the GBI Officer during her interview she suspects he probably had the gun in his bag, disassembled. Based on the time that he was missing, he would’ve had plenty of time to reassemble the weapon. I’m curious to find out what the official report says on how he got the weapon into the building though.

@@markbouldin6513 it was a 9th grade class. My daughter is also 14. There was a senior in that class named Kolton Gray that was making it up because he failed but it was a 9th grade algebra class.
My daughter did say she only seen him a few times up till that Wednesday but never spoke to him, that he was quiet and mostly kept to himself but otherwise seemed normal. So yes he was a new student but I don’t know exactly when he started. My daughter had only seen him in her class 3 times prior that she could recall, Wednesday isn’t the 4th time. She mentioned he missed several days In between though. I think he actually started the week before the labor day holiday. The school was off that Friday and Monday.
My daughter has a friend that is a twin. Colt was actually going to ask the twin sister to homecoming, in which she was going to tell him yes she would go with him. When he left the classroom after asking to leave, he actually had the poster rolled up and carrying it out. He was going to use that poster to ask her to homecoming.
Far as I know, he wasn’t bullied at that school, at least not yet, at least not that my daughter had seen. But I can’t confirm that for sure. He was bullied at his other school cause my daughter has a friend that goes there and knew Colt and confirmed he was bullied badly there.

@@markbouldin6513 yeah it’s a weird situation. They just released the body cam footage from last year when Colt was interviewed for the alleged threat he made. Honestly I seen no red flags and his father seemed legitimately concerned for his son. We are out in the country and hunt so honestly it’s not a big deal buying your kid a gun. I had several rifles and shotguns younger than 14. I know some people that sounds insane.
His family was actively trying to get Colt help cause he was having trouble with being bullied and I believe his parents had just spilt up prior to that and he wasn’t handling that well. He recently bleached his hair as well and grew it out longer. Everyone is saying he looked gay and what not but like I mentioned, he was interested in my daughter’s friends sister and was suppose to ask her out the day of the shooting. He actually ended up shooting her in the leg which I don’t think he did on purpose, it just so happened that she was in the class that he was able to get access to due to the teacher opening the door.
But he did text his mother that morning and his mother called the school to warn them of extreme danger. They sent someone in the class room to get Colt but he has already asked to be dismissed but they also messed up the name and got that senior Kolton Gray. So the school really really dropped the ball badly. It could have been completely prevented if they took his mother more seriously when she called them.
I’m saying this as a parent of a kid that went through hell during this shooting, so I don’t say this lightly but the system failed Colt Gray, he needed help and it was mostly ignored and not taken seriously.
