I learned hard hard lesson years ago on making sure filters are the same. I had a Kenworth with a Cummins 400 Big Cam. Drained oil , dropped filter. Poured oil in new filter and it would NOT SCREW ON. Went back to store. Yeah there's 2 thread types !

    Excellent video!🙂
But I wished you would have shown how to drain the oil also for us newbies who want to do our oil changes on Ford expedition 4.6L. That's the only thing that was missing in this video. Luckily, I found another ford expedition video that showed me how to drain the oil.

That's right friend, what's easy for one might be difficult for another, I always been taught to only hand tighten a new oil filter on,that's me, way I do it. Automotive repair DIY doesn't Come natural to me. I have to work at it. But can do it. I like it fixing. 😊👍😎👌 thanks again---

That yellow filter you had was definitely the wrong one, they are supposed to be big like that white one. if you use the motorcraft filter, the part number is fl-820s and it's the same size as your carquest filter. they sell the motorcraft filter at walmart for $4. If I had to guess the yellow filter was installed by a quick change shop, they just throw on whatever seals from what I've seen.

Nathan Rohrbough true, but hopefully you don't have that vibration that mine has that I can't seem to track down. My Expedition loves the vibrate on the highway I went so far as replace the drive shaft even ran the thing in the air with the wheels off and vibration still there

The yellow one looked like an FL400 size - for the 3.0 V6 Vulcan engine.

screw the haters man lol i am a fleet mechanic, mostly ford & International, and this is one of the most difficult oil changes I deal with(my own truck). Should be 5W-30 or 5W-20 oil, not 10W-40. Mine takes 6 quarts but it's a 5.4.

  • @GhostAutomotive

Thank God my 5.4 has it right behind the fog light on the drive side

I struggle some with my 05 Taurus. Wife's Nissan Versa Note is easier. Santa Fe is a breeze too. You think one of the Ford design engineers is a sadist? 😀

My son just changed oil in my 04 4.6. He had a hard time getting that filter off. I will get a thingy like you used for the next time. One thing though, I only use motorcraft synthetic oil and filters as reccomended by ford. It is worrth paying a few dollars more. Your oil looked terrible.Dont let it get that bad

Nathan Rohrbough lol yep checked just today - so somehow my P0420 check engine light went away on its own. Maybe it was borderline so for good measure I ran the old lacquer thinner through today and drove over 100 miles

@@simpleman3256 I'd go with 20-50 if there is high miles in warm climate, 10-30 in cold.

@@FixingWithPassion I gotcha, 5w-20 was what it "calls" for. However, I agree with you certain things will change that. Btw thanks for the video, that oil filter kicked my butt lol
