    Dang Matt, glad you're ok! Gotta say I was really excited for this one. More new brass in the market, crimped bullet, expected speed and penetration with decent deformation... But case neck separationS, like plural with an S in this small sample size? That kills the whole thing. Certainly doesn't bode well for their Critical Defense load which i assume will use the same brass. I hope that's a bad quality batch that they can recall and not the whole production. Cant imagine that getting past QC if they had the same results.

    How the extractor groove is cut amounts to a large part of the weight discrepancy between Lake City 223 cases. I think that's the case with semiautomatic focused cartridges in general.

    • @BuffRANGE
      @BuffRANGE  8 місяців тому +11

      It's mainly because it seems at the time the DBX came out Promags were the most plentiful, and Dback designed the mag well around the Promag, which is slightly oversized from the FN mag. That size difference seems to cause failures to feed when I use the FN mags. I may bring it back out and do some more testing. :D SO my general recommendation is to use Pro-mags in the DBX :D

    The problem is that most blowback guns can have an out of battery situation under these circumstances. Since Hornady decided to lighten up the casing, this makes case separation way more likely. Lightening up the case might not have been a great decision.

      @@BuffRANGE woah! I have thought often of getting the AR57, but dang - I don't know now...after seeing it allows for that next trigger-pull.
      I'm assuming your had to remove the neck each time from the CMMG and it won't fire OOB. That's good.
      And now that I review that detonation, it's SO fortunate that it wasn't on a bull-pup, as your face looks positioned right above the chamber/firing-pin, whereas that AR and others it's well behind that spot.

      @@ShastaBean On the CMMG, I would chamber another round and then charge it, and it would usually pull the neck out for me without getting out the bore brush :D Since the BCG on the CMMG has to be locked, it would not fire :D. I will have to update you on how the revised BCG works in the AR57.
      I thought the PS90 action would prevent OOB, but I guess we need to test that now :)

    • @ShastaBean
      @ShastaBean 8 місяців тому +1

      @@BuffRANGE That's a handy way to remove the neck!!
      When I was testing the Extreme ammo...he was blaming it as the fault of my gun, at first separation, because he claimed it got tested in a bunch of other guns.
      I put the question to Jay (on his M&P in depth review video) as to whether other various gun designs have quite different pressure curves, since pretty obviously the M&P does with its gas system...He basically said yes, and explained how the FN has progressive rifling. So maybe it won't happen on your PS90?
      Hornady perhaps needs to take a close look at your testing results, and consider very carefully on whether to leave this ammo on the market, imo. If dozens of videos go out with separations...? How's that going to look?
      I mean, heck...it looks like CCI pulled the Uppercut ammo just due to fail to expand in clear gel...even though it looks to work just fine in the 10% organic stuff, and likely in tissue.

      I probably should do some more overhead pressing. I've been stuck at the 170-175 strict press for a long time. I got sucked away from progressive overload, and it's taken me a few years to learn that just pumping out mindless volume 4-5 days a week isn't getting me stronger.
      A lot of it is coming down from Covid. I don't know if we'll see 15/50 5.7 anymore, but AAC at times has their FMJ 19/50, and their Vmax at 25/50.. Gatorz makes the current glasses I use, and I believe they have prescription.

    AR DOWN! AR DOWN! *sadface*. Looks like it's time to wait on getting a top loader style until the OOB protection from one of the manufacturers proves itself. Tested a friends 5.7 banshee with them after seeing this, used an emptied case with just a live primer, held the bolt open at numerous distances while pulling trigger..... no OOB ignition, our emptied case w/live primer lived to see another day. Saw a few more videos on OOB with the P90 style AR uppers, notably Ian had similar issues with neck separation. IMO it's a combination of 2 problems. 1st, the ammo case itself is obviously a problem, it shouldnt be separating but 2nd the P90 style uppers (all manufacturers it seems) are not protecting against OOB problems at all let alone adequately or even a little bit. This assumption based solely on research as I dont have one to test yet using the same method we used on a banshee and my own M&P 5.7 handgun (beautiful gun, mine has the safety).
