  • In many cases instead of having your car repaired by a muffler shop you can fix it yourself without needing to weld.

    Excellent content, some folks fail to understand you can go to multiple auto places that SHOULD have what you're looking for to only have everything BUT what you specifically need. When you live far from these places it makes finding the right components all the more crucial. The tips you shared like the C clamp vice grip trick will be extremely useful in the near future! Thanks for sharing.

    In the UK, wish we had car parts shops that stock that gr8 random selection of exhaust pipes!

      Just had the same thoughts about the video, all steps are super well explained. I need to repair my more ancient 2003 Suzuki Ignis and I borrowed some nice ideas from the video 😀

    Great tip. Only thing that I would add is some Prematex 80335 tailpipe sealer around the pipes before installing the pipes. I even use it on new installs as it takes care of small leaks. I have also done this repair with soup and soda cans. Good video.
    Happy Motoring.

    6:40 The only thing I would add is to rotate the clamp so that no bolt(s) are lower than the pipe. This is so that you travel over anything in the road, it does not rip off the clamps. Excellent video!

    I used that technique also for my exhaust..What I did is I am putting high temp silicone gasket maker on the old pipe, then insert the new one..to give a better seal.

      No just no. Check temp ratings then look a catalytic converter temps. If its that pitted use muffler cement.

    A hacksaw will take hours to get through the pipe, I recommend the cutter or saw-zaw

      Well online doesn't bring your part right then, or even that day. It's wild the things y'all critique without even thinking of the many reasons that a person would go to an auto parts store, opposed to online every single time. Why comment such nonsense.

    nvm, i see where the pipe im asking about came from.
    autozone did have it, i just failed to notice that it was indeed
    the right part i was after. *size may not had been in stock* but
    they do indeed carry 2 1/8" piping. just must be clampable.

    Will this repair pass a smog test? Or is this only to keep you from getting pulled over?

    • @drcar9202
      @drcar9202  4 місяці тому +1

      It should pass the test, as long as it's not leaking.

    Can I do this repair for an exhaust pipe flange that’s rusted beyond repair?

    • @drcar9202
      @drcar9202  7 місяців тому

      It depends if u have a good full circle..
      even if its very rusty it will work.
      if the pipe is not very smooth i would put red RTV for a better seal.

    1) wear gloves
    2) use soapy water to check for leaks. do not get your face close to the exhaust

    You could eliminate most of that work by using three overlapping shells. No cutting. See "Instructables - DIY Exhaust Repairs - Beagles" Cannot add a direct link or my post will be deleted.

      I believe you need a digital caliper to measure the outside diameter of the pipe that's on the car...then you need to match that size with the INSIDE diameter of the repair piece...does this sound correct?

    • @GangsterishlyMelodic

      Guys referring to book knowledge not experience. You can but the right connector with it's ID matching the OD of the two sections . But then you stop by the store and realize a the connectors go from 2 /2 straight to 3". That's why he had to bend open the U clamp and then use a c clamp to help it close back again.
