8:53 Important tip
Basically the game forces you to choose the balance between penetration and chance of destruction is what im understanding.
You can have alot of destruction but this wont matter if you are just taking the armor shell away without taking down the important things, like the guns of the enemy or its eletric components
The best and most efficient way to use these shells is to have two shells of different types that compliment each other Im assuming, like for example having a shell that opens wide holes on the outside of the armor, to soften the way for other shells to do internal damage
Few pointers:
1. Always use sabot warhead bodies on hollowpoint shells. (If you want to use them at all) Hollowpoint is generally bad. Because in essence you give the enemy exactly what it wants i.e. waste a lot of time and recourses on killing expendable armor. Compared to AP or APHE that kills important systems way faster. Hollowpoint is slow to incapacitate.
2. If you have more ap then ac then you wont have more damage. Damage to armor is kd*[(ap/ac)capped at ratio of 1].
3. On AP[Chemical] shells you don't need fuses anymore. A couple of updates ago they changed it so when an fuse-less AP[Chemical] shell runs out of kinetic damage it will blow. And not on impact.
Really well made video, only 2 things that are important to mention: hollowpoint doesn't care about angle and is best used for deleting angled armour. It is best combined with sabot bodies (although this makes no sense physically). Sabot shells only need up to 70ap. More AP than the target does no bonus dmg and is just wasted.
Yeah, was covered in the instant armour videos so didn't mention anything about angled armour here :)
Whaaat, is there a cap at 70ap? Is it a softcap or a hard cap?
@@GMODISM the AP does full damage to armor value of the target, I'm told 70ap is stacked HA. Of course more AP does more damage to ring shielded HA, but it's very situational. If you have 70ap shell then money is already wasted shooting just metal. I never tested any of this myself mind you but this is concensus of the community
@@zsdfasdfas yeah 70 ap is enough for about 90% of targets, if it's tough enough to require more your probably using more complex weapons at that point
@@zsdfasdfas stacked heavy armour is 72 armour
I love how concise your videos are, I was really struggling with learning this game but your snappy turorials made it 10x easier. Thank you so much :D
Glad you find them useful!
These tutorials make me want to get out of bed, turn on my pc and go mess around with this stuff myself at 3am
For large caliber guns, I generally use HE, but on small caliber autocannons, I use APFSDS, aka all sabot with one fin stabilizer module so I can get that juicy penetration even without high kinetic damage.
This video was exactly what I needed. I'm still in the 2015 FTD mindset that everything has to be frag set to a 1 degree angle, and naturally that doesn't work anymore.
By the way, sabot is prounced sa-bow (or say-bow if you're american)
Well, it can work for certain applications, but indeed it's very niche, this video goes through some good basic ones that work all-around ^^
Gmodism blessed us with another FTD tutorial, all hail the king.
Heavy head is best for getting a kinetic shell to be exactly 20ap, the optimized shell for CIWS. Although I'm surprised at how well it did against metal in this video, I should think about offensive ciws.
how about heavy head with Sabot bodies instead of just AP with solid bodies? i've been messing around with stuff like that for a long time but can't ever seem to get it to the point where it is better against non-wood targets.
You can always use your ciws offensively if you just put a ciws and normal weapon controller on it and just give the ciws controller higher priority. So it will do ciws jobs wenn there are any and if there are none the normal weaponcontroller kicks in and your ciws shoots the enemy. Not doing that is a bit of a waste of space and resources. Or you just want it to look good and have it only do ciws
They actually changed AP chemical shells a while back, now it explodes after it runs out of ap damage.
Oh really! Did totally miss that! Does it also apply to crams?
@@GMODISM don't know, worth testing
@@GMODISM mind you the fuse is still useful for firing at soft targets that you can potentially shoot all the way through, like most aircraft, but it's normal to use timed explosives on those anyway.
You can set the time to be constant in the settings but otherwise great video. I’d expect the chemical shells to do much better after their kinetic AP buff but I guess not.
I just prefer the time changing :)
Well this armour is particularly strong against heat though
I really hope they change the way rails are added visually. It just looks so awful and clunky. It should be it's own barrel and gun part to get the speed buff. It just looks so off when you have to put the rails alongside a mantle.
Other than that, thank you so much for your tutorials.
Well it is more modular this way, but there are some challenges armouring them for sure. My problem with railguns is that they should have a completely different sound of operation with charging whine and stuff!
Glad you enjoy the tutorials mate!
I still don't understand, how did you make shells and stuff? How you get that menu? And where do I find said block to go the menu, you never explained it.
There are blocks to setup tuning of shell at the bottom of Advanced Cannon build menu. You need to have one block with display and at least one with parts connected to display. Whole piece can be anywhere on the vehicle. Then you can press q on the aps cannon/aps stats/intakes/choose or edit or create shell.
i been searching a good shell tutorial, finally found one
Glad you found this! Keep tuned for more ;)
I just use
Gunpowder
Gunpowder
Solid warhead
He
Emergency ejection defuse
HE
Armor Piercing
It works well, and My aps may not be the absolute most fast firing (usually 75mm to 120 at the most), boy is it accurate and effective against most enemies.
Dude this is so helpful Tysm
Glad it helped!
