The netting over the basket fabric changed the whole look of all the scraps. They now appear to be a fabric collection and are very cohesive. Nice job.!!
I absolutely love this and you make it look so easy! I have a quilting friend that always throws away tons of scraps and it drives me nuts! I’m going to go steal her trash basket and try this to make her a gift basket of her own fabric!😂
I like to add a small loop along one edge somewhere so I can hang them up on a board using hooks, or magnets. These can be filled with all kinds of sewing goodies that we like to keep handy, clips, snips, threads, bobbins, etc. I love what you did here. Basically you made new fabric. That’s where my journey into quilting started. I made scrap squares from my daughters dresses I made her back in the early 80’s, and the. Sewed my squares together in patterns, cut them again, sewed them again, and keep going until I had formed new fabric. I tie quilted this one
hi! I did regret not making a loop too, it would look so cute hanging from my tool board! And you guys are always able to read my mind, because I've just made a new video about creating yardage from scraps heheheh. I just love that we're all so in synch around here 😍
I really like this idea. Some days all you want to do is use those little pieces of fabric you love to make something fun and useful!! Thanks for a great idea.
I usually save my tiniest of scraps for stuffing projects, but this is an awesome idea for scraps too big for that but too small for anything else! I love it! I think your basket turned out beautifully!
You could use Solvy water soluble stabilizer, then soak after sewing all the lines to hold the scraps together. The Solvy melts away in water and you have a vibrant piece of quilted scraps ready to use.
I've never tried that. It completely dissolves? So the ends of the fabrics may end up sticking out? Or does it keep a layer over it even after dissolving?
@@seweasybysandy Put the water soluble stabilizer on top of the scraps and then stitch. Depending on the size of those small scraps you may have to stitch/quilt a smaller pattern. After stitching rinse the piece in warm water and allow to dry. I use that method to make a thread bowl.
I Thank you for this GREAT idea. I have lots of scraps and I'm going to make some of these for a Garage sale I'm having when the weather is good. ❤Sandy you are a precious person with a very sweet spirit. I always enjoy your videos. Keep the ideas coming!!❤
I love that you utilize all those scraps and find a solution to it! It sits like forever in a box, nearby my sewing machine! I'll try to do a bit of bigger stuff. Probably laundry container. Or just dump all the stash for sewing project. It is hard for me to let go of these items. I keep some of swatches that I formerly use when first getting seriously back with the hobby specially for earlier sewing projects since it bear sentimental values. Those are odd shaped as it was coming from leftover sofa cover projects and drapes.
Yes, I know waht you mean. It gets easier if you use them for something that you use a lot or that you look at frequently. There they are, finally being useful and looking gorgeous 😁
I've saved lots of really small scraps from all the various quilting/sewing projects I've made. The fabrics are all special to me, and so I can't imagine throwing them out 😢 ! This will be something VERY useful and fun to do, with very little stress involved 😀 as well. 😂❤ thanks for the ideas.
I thought of using vinyl, I usually use heat n'bond but I kind of like the whole toning down of the fabrics effect. I'll probably give the vinyl a try for a later video ☺️
What a delightful way to use scraps to create a colorful vessel. I had fun making one and plan to make more. It is nice to replace some of the plastic containers in my craft room with a piece much more easy on the eyes. I didn’t have top fabric so I savaged some netting from my garden supplies and it worked out amazing. Have fun everyone. Quite easy and fun to boot. Thanks for the tutorial 🫶🏼
I love this! It' very beautiful! I do a lot of purse making, and I think I would leave the opening in the side of the lining (or bottom if you pieced it there). It stitches up easier and you don't have to be as particular as you do on the top edge.
Fun idea for those tiny pieces. If you use a dark color organza or mesh the colors will actually show up better. I learned this the hard way of course. Nice video, will check out more of your ideas.
You can totally do that. You'll have a couple of scrap ends sticking out and it will be a bit harder to quilt, but totally doable. I did pot holders during Christmas like that, you can check it out in the scrap playlist
@@seweasybysandyI’ve just discovered your channel and subscribed. Love this idea. If you want to do it without the netting you can actually do special stitches on the edge or zig zag so the edges don’t fray. It’s called crazy quilting and you can do so much decorative work it’s a really big rabbit hole to go down. I am making fidget mats and this would look great as a backing. Can I request if you could do some projects with upholstery fabric as I have just got a whole heap for free I would like to use. Thank you from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺
@@HereatJodstas hi, welcome! I usually do pet beds with upholstery fabric, it's the only ones that last around here heheh. Yes, you can absolutely do this without the top fabric, I just like the muted, clean look. I always love the idea of taking two things and turning them into a completely new thing. Heheh
Why did you put the sheer material on top? To hold the little pieces in place? I wish there was a way to not have that because your basket colors would stand out so much better!
@@dottierobbins939 hi! You don't have to, but I like the muted colors. Plus this way it was easier to sew and I didn't have to worry about any ends sticking out.

Yes! I totally agree, it just becomes something else 😁
I suggest using black tulle or netting. Rather than reflect the white light, it allows the colors to show through the netting. Give it a try!
That will look so cool! Must kook into black material. Thank you 😀
Ohh… that sounds interesting!!!
That’s a cool idea. You could really use any color tulle that would compliment your fabrics.
Pizza! That's how we call this good method of utilizing tiny scraps. Nicely done job, Sandy!
I love that, thanks!

Sounds like a great plan!
Make her a basket yo put her scraps in for you to rescue again 😂
Throws away scraps 😨😨😨 They can be used in projects like this or as stuffing

Thank you so much ☺️

You could also use tulle instead of the sheer curtain fabric. I've used it before and it lets a bit more of the fabrics shine through.
Yes, it would look so lovely 😍
Or you could just not use anything and quilt it. I dont really see the point of the net other than it hides all the quilting.
I like your attitude---doesn't have to be perfect. I learned that long ago.

One of the first things I learned to make were baskets! I only started sewing in 2021, and I LOVE the idea to use scraps to make a basket! Thank you!

Yes! That’s what I originally thought she was doing when I saw the thumbnail
I'd had a similar idea using water soluble cross stitch fabric.
This is a great idea! I even pulled out some scraps from my sewing room trash basket to use in this project. I’m looking forward to making these.
