  • Here is a little compilation of some of the Pilatus PC-12's I've seen coming into Nelson, British Columbia CZNL. Notice a couple interesting things throughout the video, including a near bird strike at 0:48 and some aircraft leaving their gear down for a long period of time. We use to get quite a bit of Pilatus PC-12's in Nelson, mostly operated by AirSprint, but lately there haven't been many at all flying through.
    The aircraft you will see in the video include:
    Triple B Corporation Pilatus PC-12 N625MC 0:05
    AirSprint Pilatus PC-12 C-FASF 1:20
    AirSprint Pilatus PC-12 C-GRJP 2:44
    Smoke Shack LLC Pilatus PC-12 N144MF 4:41
    AirSprint Pilatus PC-12 C-GRJP 5:24
    Triple B Corporation Pilatus PC-12 N625MC 8:08
    A few photos of PC-12 I don't have video of 8:55

    The gear is left down until 200 ft AGL because it takes 200 ft to extend them in a glide configuration. Single engine fun. I've got about 2500 hrs in the PC12. Great airplane.

    That first clip was amazing! Looks like he maneuvered to avoid a bird strike. The Pilatus has some of the best aircraft lighting and an amazing turbine sound. Great video once again!

    These are nice aircraft.
    With a stall speed of 75 mph and a 1200hp turbo prop up front, these have excellent small field performance.

    The reason for the U/C staying down longer on some take-offs is because of take-off configurations. Normal take-off is flaps @ 15 degrees in which case the clean up sequence is U/C Up followed by flap 15 retraction. However, with a short field take-off flaps are set at 30. The clean up sequence is then Flaps 15, wait until retracted then Gear Up, then final stage of flap retracted. If you go for the U/C first on a flap 30 take-off you will get a configuration warning and call out in the cockpit

      That still doesn’t explain why that one aircraft flew all the way out of view and never brought the undercarriage up.

    If the runway is long enough, it is good practice to wait longer to retract the gear. Don't forget, the Pilatus only has one engine... engine trouble on the takeoff run or just after takeoff is the absolute worst case scenario. Leaving the gear down as long as possible eliminates one thing to think about in a botched takeoff.

    Excellent video once again and finished off with a nice touch of still shots at the end. I cant think of any thing better to do while in Nelson...except of coarse, capturing the King Airs! ;)

    I saw the same thing in that video called King Air Compilation...
    They used to retract the landing gear very high too... Maybe I am accustomed with the pilots here in Brazil where they use to retract the gears not so high but not to fast, maybe with 200 feet above the ruway!!
    Thanks one more time!! ;-)

    Outstanding camera work Jesse on this compilation of PC12s, good liveries, the second of the planes was late on gear retraction, i noticed that, but no harm done, but his altitude increased fairly quickly when he retracted, nothing like a mountain face coming up quick to make you realize you need to climb quicker, lol,.I think if i had to pick one prop to be at the top, it is probably the PC12, as far as reliability, durability, maintenance cost, insurance, fairly good fuel capacity and range, in fact, their are several twins on the market that i would choose the PC12 over. Nice work my friend.

    It's not uncommon for the gear to be left down while the flaps transition from 30* to 15*. 15* is the normal takeoff flap position, 30* is the short field position. The short field procedure is that once you're clear of all obstacles , bring the flaps up to 15*, then gear up, then flaps to 0* at 1000 AGL. I'm not really sure why the crews left the gear down for so long. Anyway, I love flying the Deuce, I have almost 2000 hours in them.

  • @4fifty8

    Interesting note: both planes that left their gear down until halfway to their destination were Air Sprint airplanes. Hmmm... I wonder what they're teaching over there!

    Word has it that Beech is going to produce a single engine turbo-prop. Will it be called a King Air? Probably shouldn't be, but the performance figures are pretty impressive with a cruise of 302 knots.

    No problem. I'm lucky enough to operate a PC12NG. They are a wonderful aircraft to fly.........very easy. The systems are amazing for an aircraft of it's type. GPWS, TAWS, TCAS etc...good FMS, rock solid autopilot, all glass Honeywell Primus avionics suite. A very capable aircraft and so easy to fly........a low houred PPL would have little trouble flying one. Easiest aeroplane to land as well.......didn't stop me hammering one into the deck the other night though!.......tired!

    In comparison to the flagship of Beechcrafts the King Air 350i - Pilatus PC-12 has 10% more cabine volume and is merely beaten by 10% in speed and range. However, the King Air 350i costs 70% more per hour and will not land on similar strips as the famous PC-12..

    • @williamboynton3335
      @williamboynton3335 10 років тому +2

      Actually, the PC12 has a cabin volume of 330cu.ft., while the KA 350 has a cabin volume of 355cu.ft.
      Small matter though; they're both excellent flying machines. I'd still rather have the PC12.

    • @zachj3483
      @zachj3483 7 років тому

      3100 is too much! Here at Newport we have 2900ft and we have king airs, navajos, Cessna 421, and the even a citation Mustang. But the thing is were 170 feet above sea level, and there is probably about 6000 feet, right?

    • @lgloffelmacher4913
      @lgloffelmacher4913 7 років тому

      runway length is just one component.......mountain terrain here is a huge factor....near sea level helps a lot......jets are taking a risk on 2,900ft
