So, it only took 8 weeks, but the Cincinnati Bengals have seemingly finally shown us what they are fully capable of in the 2023 NFL season. After dealing with the Joe Burrow calf strain injury for the first portion of the season, followed up by questions about the Bengals offense, head coach Zac Taylor, etc, Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase & company have finally shown what they are capable of when fully healthy, and it’s something that most teams might not have an answer for.
To start with the Bengals offense, with being so limited in terms of their playbook with Joey Burrow’s injury, we finally got a taste of what they can do when he is mobile. And whether that involves expanding the air attack by using any of Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, Tyler Boyd, Trenton Irwin, Irv Smith, or even Joe Mixon through the run game and backfield, the formation versatility and expanded play-calling did wonders for Cincy against the 49ers.
Then in terms of the Bengals defense, this has surprisingly been the most stable part of this team throughout the 2023 NFL season. And with guys like Sam Hubbard, DJ Reader, Trey Hendrickson, Germaine Pratt, Dax Hill & even Cam Taylor-Britt rounding out the back end, the Bengals look poised to make an impressive run through the middle of their season. And if head coach Zac Taylor continues to do what he showed us recently, there’s no reason to think otherwise.

4 incompletions against that defense is insane. He had 19 in a row (a PR). This is a different team going forward, afc is in trouble.

He was the quarterback for the Bengals throughout the 70's until '86. He led them to their first Super Bowl birth, was the league MVP in '81, 4x prowbowler, 4x leading league in passer rating, etc.
He's a bit of a legend among Bengals fans.
He was also the very first quarterback to run Bill Walsh's west coast offense that Montana became famous using, and probabaly ran it best, no offence to Montana.

Aaron Rodgers a few years ago played a season that he had a calf strain that lingered throughout and people thought he was done and washed and then he went on to win two consecutive MVPs.
Calf strains are no joke. I’m not a professional athlete but I couldn’t walk without a limp for almost a month when I had one
And i think Burrow is better than Rodgers.
This is just what they do. Start slow then get hot at the right time. Nobody wants to play against this team in November, December, and January. Burrow leads the league in nearly every statistic from late October on. The defense bends but doesn't break and when time to either put a game away or get a big stop to give the offense a shot at a last second win they get pressure and force turnovers. This is a complete unit.
All facts, the real ones already knew when they were* 1-3, it was only a matter of time before Joe got right

Exactly I knew we were gonna get hot hell we went on a huge win streak last year into the afc championship ha should've been 2 superbowl appearances in a row but we all know what happened. We're not a team too doubt ha. People still believe we won't make the playoffs 😂 gonna get a rude awakening ha

At the beginning of the season I could have seen that. Especially after our poor start but now with the way they are playing I can’t realistically see them losing two more games. There’s no team left on their schedule that strikes fear in me. No not the Ravens, Chiefs, Bills. Not even the Browns, Jags or Steelers twice. In fact the potential lost would in all likelihood come at the end of the regular season while resting players. That is how confident I am in them. Who Dey!!!

I swear people have a season to season memory.😂 the Cincinnati Bengals and Joe burrow last year in their AFC Championship game Run started the season off 0-2 and lost a couple more throughout the next five games. 2 years ago when they went on their Super Bowl run they started out just as bad in the beginning of the season. This team is not a first quarter of this season kind of team. They take that time with the coach and the coordinators to establish just who they're going to be and before you know it, they've only lost a handful of games all season because they went on an unbelievable run, rolling over anybody in their path and that includes playoffs and to be honest, I don't see this year being any different other than it ending with a Cincinnati Bengals first Super Bowl win.
Agree brother! The Bengals play their best football in November,December and January. Once the season is over this team is 12-5 or 13-4 having no issues going on the road and beating good playoff teams. This Bengals team is battle tested,and can beat any team anywhere!
Agree they start slow but the main reason for this is not having normal off-seasons. First Covid then knee surgery then appendicitis surgery then a calf injury. Hopefully next year he starts out healthy and then watch us start fast. We don’t just start slow for no reason. We will eventually have a normal offseason and most likely start out looking like this
They need to beat the Ravens,Browns and Steelers twice. As long as Borrow stays healthy they got a good chance.

Excellent breakdown my friend ! I was waiting for the day Burrow got to 100%. I was laughing when the "talking heads" in the media and unknowledgeable football fans wrote them off in week 4 ! Not to be condescending but the "typical" commentator / fan who never really played the game has no clue how much HAVING to take every snap from Shotgun diminishes the Offense's ability to move the football and score. And when you couple the facts that Burrow was unable to roll out / run "waggle" plays AND Defenses could "play tight" because they knew Burrow couldn't push off on his back leg and take deep shots....it's AMAZING this team went 3 - 3 before Joe was 100% ! Playing him with that bad calf was taking 3/4ths of the playbook away...there was no fear of play action, QB sneak, QB Draw or deep shots and Defenses only had to game plan for about 1/4th of the playbook ! You broke it down perfectly...great job !
If the run games going no one is stopping this team
The 49ers were a top 3 defense if not top 2. And what isn’t talked about enough is that ALL their starter on defense we’re playing in that game. No injuries in defense. So the Bengals did that to a desperate 49ers team with ALL their starters playing and in San Francisco. That’s impressive. And the game should have been 41-17. If Irv hadn’t fumbled they score on the next few downs. And McPherson missed one which is unusual. Should actually have been 41-17 not 31-17. Or 38-17.
Love to see it, just really want the Bengals to utilize a RB2 and keep using their 4th and 5th receivers to change things up. Irwin and Iosivas are X factor guys that need to keep getting reps.
Same with Boyd, he is still key to the offense, then getting Mixon going.
THE SAME EXACT THING HAPPENED LAST YEAR!! The Bengals started 0-2 and the 1-3 and then 3-3. Same thing last year and what happened last year? They were right back in the AFC championship AGAIN!
I think the Bengals will end up 13-4 going into the playoffs. With this level of production on both sides of the ball, there aren't many teams that can beat them. I predict our only other loss this season will be from Baltimore or Kansas City. Bengals vs Eagles in the Super Bowl and Joe Burrow lifting the Lombardi for the first time in Bengals history.

If THIS is the Bengals going forward, the only team they might have trouble with in the AFC is Miami with Mr Flash vs Bengals low experience CBs. Even still, 200 yards and 2 TDs for Hill still might not be enough.
Wait a minute! Didn’t everyone say the Bengals was over hyped and just wasn’t the same team as the previous two seasons? Writing this team off and blaming the play calling and offensive struggles that will sink their season! When you have a healthy Joe Burrow,the offensive line this team has,along with the weapons on the outside and a good running game,this team is very dangerous! The defense is filled with young talent that is developing into a nice unit. Not to mention they probably have the best D coordinator in the NFL in Lou Anarumo. The Bengals are serious Super Bowl contenders and will be right there in the end playing in the AFC championship game again this year with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line.

TE don't get very many targets in our system. Not saying an elite pass catching TE wouldn't be nice though, but we rely more on our TEs to block.

Niners made it easy for Burrow to run, but lets not pretend Burrow is a running QB. He averages like 13 yards rushing a game in his career.
I don't think anyone is saying Burrow is a running QB. The fact that his calf is better and that he is fully mobile again is the point. He can use his legs to escape pressure and extend plays and run if he needs to.

I follow you but humbly disagree. I say start at the beginning of the winning streak. The Cardinal game and Chases record breaking/ setting accomplishments. They are wins after all. Seattle is a good strong team too. The 49ers are a bar setter with everything that comes with that. That victory is the main one that got everybodies attention. So I feel you and see where you’re coming from. But we needed the momentum to help pull this off. It was the most impressive statement win in the bunch.
