      @@frankkobold Especially the mitre saw in the beginning is very dangerous, as it is way to unstable. The problem is this may work without problems for a 100 times, but if one time there is some nasty inner tension in the wood you might get kickback. The screws won't hold that. The saw might then get totally out of control and cut off your fingers or worse cut into your chest.
      This is an unnecessary high risk and it is only for a hobby. If this goes wrong, you might not only lose your hobby. You might become incapable to work. Is that really worth it, even if you cannot affort a real mitre saw? Especially since you can do the same cuts using the cirular saw as it is indented, it just takes a bit more time...

    • @kleinstewerkstatt

      Also the blade cover is a safety feature. Never render safety features inoperable! And again this is without real necessity, just lazyness. The idea with the guild rails is not bad per se, but the execution is simply not safe in a number of details.

      Ppl who give thumbs down know their trade. There are actually good DIY ideas to compliment a circular saw but those three are one dumber than another.

  • @TeeVeeGames

    Your video is well put together and the music and assembly footage was hypnotic. But for anyone who's considering this - DON'T DO IT!
    I'm by no means an expert, but having hours of safety lessons drilled into me has taught me that disabling the blade guard or any other safety feature of a tool is asking for a life-changing accident. And the wood base of that homemade chop saw means that the saw (sans blade guard) is going to go flying at the first hint of kickback. (And that hinge may not be enough to keep it secure either if you bolt it down.)
    If you can't drop coin on an inexpensive (but safer) chop saw right now, there's nothing wrong with using the saw against a speed square to accomplish the same thing. And the blade will be away from you, guard in place.
    The other two projects are good ideas but, again, can be accomplished without removing saw safety features.

    On your first cutting jig this would actually work great for cuts over 300 on gables sheeting etc , I have the largest dewalt chopsaw 12" blade I use it for everything it's a serious bit of kit...but limited on large cuts say 600mm,I can just flip it over but a single straight though cut I would much prefer, nice jobs.

  • @thenexthobby
    @thenexthobby 20 днів тому

    On the first, consider using a finish (fewer teeth, etc) blade when making the cut into the bottom for less splintering. You'll then have a nice, "zero gap" kerf line that will make lining up cut lines easier for the workpiece. Similarly, you can paint that kerf cut area a contrasting color.

    By the time you buy all of the components for the DIY drop saw you’ve spent as much as you would have on a cheap AND MUCH SAFER!!!!!! Drop saw. A couple f clamps and a straight edge makes number 2 redundant. And number 3?? Most circular saws come with an attachment to cut consistent rips. These just seem like long winded ways to cut part of your hand off.

    Clever, I like the enginuity. I bet it all works well for thin smallish lumber. The slide with the skill saw is a bit sketchy in that there is little security in the blades path in terms of upward jumps outside of the hands downward force. But otherwise I'm sure much of this set up works quite well.

      I'd leave the blade guard in place, and clamp the work down, then use the saw with both hands. Problem solved. You could also make a second set of rails to hold the saw in the guides. And if you make them from steel its wildly unlikely that saw is going anywhere.

      Poof? Pretty big claim. And I'd point out you can cut your fingers off with any power saw. Even ones with guards.
      Because plenty of people have injured themselves with circular saws with guards in place. So your comment needs citation.
      Because the important safety feature is the one between your ears. If you don't use that, everything is dangerous to you. I'd also point out that you can overcome that weakness by using steel bolts and heavier hinges instead of wood screws.
