just came across your channel and i love it, i love techy science stuff in skateboarding and most "HARDCORE SKATE RAT" skaters just say any stuff works. but anyone smart enough knows truck choices, wheels etc all matter a lot.
I have some spitfire classics 60mm 99a hardness on a Powell/peralta reissue Steve Cab dragon bats total 80's carve N cruise board with no flat spots yet with 50+ hours😉
aunt jenifer mine never flatspotted, but they are harder to powerslide that f4 101s and my back wheel shrunk 4mm trying. But they don’t seem to flat spot, even when my board got run over and the tire was pushing on the trucks. The board didn’t break tho.
Thanks this video was exactly what I was looking for, because I was looking for a wheel that power slides well. I got the 49mm version because of preference.
Well I got these exact ones (54mm) and I may have misuderstood you on the slidiness of the wheels. Before I was skating formula 4s and loved the slidy aspect of them and I gotta say that these are like 40% less slidy which really sucks for me. In a concrete park I now can powerslide only half as far as with formula fours. Overall I’d say they are on the stickier side despite being 103A. For you miniramp or bowl skaters I’d say this grip is an advantage but I’m all about skrrt and powerslide so its a downside for me.
I was always riding 99a formula 4 then i tried some 103a STF v3 since my local shop ran out of formula 4s and im kind of liking them for street skating i feel like i actually get more speed from them and i like the way they feel its not bad at all. Formula 4s are great tho i just prefer bones stf v3 right now
I use a bench grinder, and hold the wheel at a bit of an angle, so it's somewhat diagonal to the direction of the rotation of the wheel...just slightly so it makes the wheel roll with the grinder, but at enough of an angle to create friction....then I carefully apply a little pressure, while sweeping side to side across the face of the contact patch...and it resurfaces the entire wheel, and removes flat spots, use a small dial caliper or something to check exact size, and make them all the same.
some of my wheels I've done so many times, I have one set I've kept around just as a joke, because they are down to 38mm..basically not rideable on anything but solid smooth metal, and they're slow as f.
@@bendegros Yeah, it's fun. I turned a pair of pretty narrow spitfire 51's that were flat spotted by someone else....into 44's, and they're slightly wider now too, so the shape is like kinda weird...not like old school square wide, but somewhere in the middle, so they are like very round little things, I wish I could post pics in comments here...they remind me of the shape of techdeck fingerboard wheels. They're really scary to try to grind anything that's unsupported next to it...like ledge is fine, but bare open rail is scary as hell cuz they just slide right off, can't lock into anything...but manuals feel so good for some reason cuz its so raw and rough feeling and slow...and they just make me feel like I'm skating in 94 again. There was so much sub 50mm wheel happening back then. My very first real board was in 1993, and it was a blank 7.375 local shop deck, with thunder trucks 7.5" overall, and Tree Fort 49mm 101A wheels., and Jessup Griptape of course...Black Magic was the other choice back then. So nostalgic right now. I still have one of the hangers to those trucks, on a baseplate from a Titan Ti-lite....ground down so flat, almost through to the axle. The other hanger actually cracked all the way through and bent because there was no meat left below the axle in tensile strength, so it just caved finally landing something off a ledge.
Thank you! It's only just starting to pick up momentum. The nice thing about having so few subscribers is I can still be very active answering questions and viewing the comments. If it ever grows even to 1000 subs that will take a lot more time.
I love the v3 but it’s impossible to make a wheel that skinny that doesn’t flat spot. I usually don’t flat spot wheels but I’m a little dude so that might be why.
Just bought a complete setup from the local skateshop by me here for the first time in 10 years after watching your vids and wanting to get back out and try, and they were out of F4's in a decent size (they had 58s though!) and now I'm just watching to see if the STFs that I got are solid! :D
apparently bones stf's kinda erase themselves when they get a flatspot and go back to being round and smooth also y are u saying they aren't too hard there are no harder wheels
WillDaBeast depends on the STF wheel you’re talking about. I have a set that are 99a like most companies make and a set that are the 83b/103a. Those are hard wheels
I like mine. I have 54mm STF wheels. All ground is rough where I live and still have to swap wheels to a 78a 60mm wheel for going between places and over fucked up asphalt.
I was wondering if these wheels would be good for riding wood mini ramps and concrete parks also what do you think would be the best size for concrete and wood
I got a flat spot from a bs tailslide with my new bones wheels. I missed the landing and powerslided a little bit and now they are useless. So disappointed
these are the best! i never flatspotted any regardless of the terrain... oj's omar hassan were fucked after one session... for softer wheels i was super happy with 'mini logo 97A, a cut 57mm' but they seem not to make them anymore...
The older OJ's weren't good. But I just gave them another chance with their new OJ Elite's and they've been amazing. I got the little wider Hard-line version and I've been loving them. And I own STF's, Formula 4s, Crupie's, Dial Tones, Rictas so I have enough to judge by
I all ready have BONES WHEELS STFS AND WHEN I GET FLAT SPOTS ON MY WHEELS THEY JUST ERASE THAT FLAT SPOT AND RIDE OF THE THAT FLAT SPOT AND FIX OT BY PWERSLIDE TO ERASE THAT FLAT SPOT, BONES WHEELS ARE THE BEST STFS V-1 THROUGH V-5 50MM-55MM STFS HANDS DOWN AND PLUS THE TWO BONES VIDEOS GOT ME ON BONES WHEELS 100% FAN SLIDE ABILITIES AND 100% LESS FLAT SPOTS. 😍🤘🤙🏽👍
any wheel will flat spot if you do a random ass powerslide un purpose! regular powerslides while cruising will not flat spot them. ive flat spotted my STFs skating rails (ex: fs bluntslide that didnt pop out properly and landed 90deg) but the golden thing about STFs is that the flat spot vanishes after a while! bonus thing of these wheels: they stay nice a white and dont turn yellow
Durometer really matter at all, it depends how it truly feels at the end of the day which is why were watching Ben in the first place. If it matters THAT much to you look it up its not that hard they have 1 durometer for stf it took me 2 seconds to look that up
I’ve had a few sets of the v3 and the stf sets in washed white with that graphic I’ve only seen in a 103. My new set is the naturals with the Minor Threat sheep graphic and those are 99a. These wheels in a 99a are 👌
Thing is tho, you dont typically do powerslides the way you did in this. I do front and back powerslides and I never do them with the intention of "lets slide as far as I possibly can" its more of I do a quick power slide of a few feet, and I am doing it either to slow down a little or I'm doing it to just have fun and be obnoxious. I have never ever flatspotted a wheel, be it Bones OR spitfire.
I have a friend that told me STFs were the best so I got some. Less than a week later of skating a park with very smooth cement I had a flat spot large enough to feel that it wouldn't ride out any time soon. Since then I decided to try Formula 4 wheels by Spitfire. I've been loving them for the last few years and haven't once had to replace them due to flat spots, only because I wanted a new set of wheels.
Bones and spitfire, spitfire is actually the winner because spitfire is not to grippy and not too slippery. In the middle. It's the best for the power slide. Bones, it is more to the grippier and when you turn ur board 180fs, bs, they have loud noise and jam you.
I think the skatepark test (skate lite was it?) should have been done after the wheel treads were gone, those treads really make a difference at the start.
I can not ride those wheels on the streets. you going to feel every bump on the road. Your feet is going to feel being destroyed. It doesn't ride far on a kick. These wheels are for mostly skate parks and smooth floors. I just learned the hard way that softer wheels are better for everyday street riding.
If you get the spitfire formula fours I recommend the 99a. they are perfect for any terrain. I tried the 101a and thought they were to slippery for smooth park concrete and to hard for streets. The 99a performed way better in my opinion.
Joey Rodriguez personally i i have skated both the 99 and 101 and have changed near fresh 99s for old 101s cause of the beautiful slide of 101. i don’t skate parks though lol
I know, my skate change too, but no much, because i´ve friends who represent various brands and have your brand too, are quality products very, very well, i buy almost in the cost. Until shoes and clothes.
Good to know. A lot of guys were saying 54. Recommend a deck width and length? I'm not seeing much info on tail slope either from the sellers, like you talk about in your truck comparison video.
It depends on what kind of skating you are doing. I do a lot of technical skating. 53 or 54 is not very big yet. You will get a smoother ride from 54's but they start getting a bit heavier at that point. Deck width: Technical skating 8 - 8.25 bowls, 8.25 and up. You won't see much info on most websites for slope. Real skateboards has the most descriptive and comprehensive selection I have seen.
I've rode bones and spitfire both are great wheels. I prefer spitfire wheels 99 formula 4s great on all terrain the issue I had with bones was they felt kinda like plastic. I've been skateboarding for 17 years and it took me a long time to find my comfort zone so it's all up to what you feel is comfy.
Crazy that’s happen I’ve gotten lil baby ones that u can barely see and feel nut u can totally see urs. If they have lil baby ones and I ride in the streets and not the park u can’t feel em even in the park u can barely tell u have a flat spot so if they the small ones u can ride it out. Now my wheels is completely smooth
Hey man I know this is an old video but to enhance your audio I recommend sony vegas and audacity to sink everything and mix your volume setting to maximize sound quality if haven't learned any of that already
I haven't been using any systems. I got a good external mic for clarity and I just manually tweak the volume as needed. Thanks though, I will look into it.
83B equates to roughly 97/98A check a proper conversion table, not the BS on bones' site. People equate harder wheels to slideability so they started making up numbers like 101 and 103, that don't exist, then they couldn't really take it back and explain. Anyway, too hard a wheel for street? That's doesn't really make sense kid, do you even skate?
Bones claims that they’re 81b skate park wheels = 101a, but if you look it up 81b = 95a? 85b also = 100a, so bones could measure their wheels with the a scale if not for marketing!
The warranty for defects would be for like if you opened your wheels up and there were lumps or bumps right our of the box. You can flat spot ANY wheels if you keep powersliding for to long.
Modern skaters are such wimps with the whole flat spot BS. we didn't use wax and we rode like 92a and we slid on everything and grinded on unpainted crumbley parking blocks.
It's very easy to flatspot bones, stf much easier than spf, if you powerslide, don't know what this never flat guarantee is supposed to mean, it is a good wheel but will flatspot like all wheels with lots if sliding.
Szymon, you are absolutely right that they will flatspot easier when they are brand new. These wheels were about a week old when I did this so I think it was a legit flatspot.
Lol. I’m going to wait to flat spot...(later that day) let’s do some powerslides
That last “awful” concrete he skated is all I got. East coast spots have rough and crusty spots. No nice smooth concrete
Jo Garcia sameeeeee

7:14 Well, totally relatable
Best wheels in the game imo. Had a pair for over a year and never flatspotted once. Did many powerslides too

i got some v1s today they fell really nice so far

Ricta Clouds 78a 56 mm if you are in the streets. Ricta Clouds 86a 55mm for the skatepark. I think either of those wheels would work out well for you.

i've always bought the cheapest wheels i can get. should i invest in bones stf or spitfires? what do you think?
I've rode bones and spitfire both are great wheels. I prefer spitfire wheels 99 formula 4s great on all terrain the issue I had with bones was they felt kinda like plastic. I've been skateboarding for 17 years and it took me a long time to find my comfort zone so it's all up to what you feel is comfy.
Dustin Baird :;( true
You can't flat spot bones wheels. At leastive heard. But never myself either and I been sliding bones for a good minute. Stf for life!
Yeahh sync everything!!
Do you think these are significantly different from minilogo? They're made in the same factory, as far as I understand.
Jacob DeCoursey they are quite a bit better. Minilogos are super soft and don't slide.
He didn't flatspot there was literally just a mark
That was a flatspot.
Isn't 83b way too hard and damn loud for street skating?
I found them to be just right. I am trying some spitfire F4 101's right now and they feel slightly harder
DeafBlindMan skaters are just not educated well in that stuff people think 101a exists while 100a means there is no penetration
DeafBlindMan Its not comfortabpe and actually slower..
Bones claims that they’re 81b skate park wheels = 101a, but if you look it up 81b = 95a? 85b also = 100a, so bones could measure their wheels with the a scale if not for marketing!
if you look it up you'll see, that for bones 81b = 101a, other brands might be different
The warranty for defects would be for like if you opened your wheels up and there were lumps or bumps right our of the box. You can flat spot ANY wheels if you keep powersliding for to long.
I’ve forgotten what stf means
I Don't Know Elisa I know I’m a year late. But it means Street Tech Formula
ill just skate the mini logo wheels, worth value for money.

Modern skaters are such wimps with the whole flat spot BS. we didn't use wax and we rode like 92a and we slid on everything and grinded on unpainted crumbley parking blocks.
rillloudmother was that before or after school when you had a 10 mile hike in a blizzard
@@andrewknutson2175 respect the ogs
Andrew Knutson funny. i mean. rillloudmother is right. but funny i chuckled
Dont get what that has to di with flat spots but ok
...
do some spfs after spitfire. and some ojs.
It's very easy to flatspot bones, stf much easier than spf, if you powerslide, don't know what this never flat guarantee is supposed to mean, it is a good wheel but will flatspot like all wheels with lots if sliding.
I have not been able to flatspot a pair of formula fours yet. This video is pretty dated. I had not even tried spitfires yet when I filmed this.
I prefer spitfires, but these stf are ok overall
Its not really a flatspot when they are pretty new and they have these groves and they get flat easier but when u get rid of them they wont flatspot
Szymon, you are absolutely right that they will flatspot easier when they are brand new. These wheels were about a week old when I did this so I think it was a legit flatspot.
I thought STF stood for Shoot Truss First 😃
if you want wheels that dont flatspot try out spitfire formula fours man i really like em
Did you build your own indoor park for this video ? In the beginning you're drinking coffee and eating a biscuit and it looked like a sick indoor park
nice vid 🙂
