is it safe to use Diesel 911? if so, how often is recommended?
+TheRECENDEZ1 Diesel 911 is safe, but if you are just looking for lubricity and a raised cetane rating, there are products out there that are more suitable for daily driving.
I live in Wisconsin and I use this stuff in my 5.9 CR at almost every fill up especially in winter.
Nicely done! Recommendations on buying the least expensive, yet fair quality scanner?
CanDo 2 scan tool get it at napa
A cheap scanner will only tell you codes. If you use your truck to make a lot of money, invest is a Notebook scanner that you can find problems much sooner. Also Invest in ALLDATA software. It isn't that costly. The Notebook scanner will run about $4000.00 it will save you more than that. If you are serious about keeping your truck more than 2 years, you will need the Notebook Scanner. If not trade your truck in every 2 years, and always have a mfg warranty. Most guys do that now instead of being subject to high prices. They are tax deductible every year then.
On a side note here in Texas most guys are buying new trucks, and all the equipment they use are rentals. The rental companies will furnish the gooseneck trailer free of charge. I expect that diesel truck rentals will most likely be getting more common. What they do is get many jobs going at the same time so the rental on equipment will be spread evenly. Only one job at a time will put you out of business.
Why not use ether if you are having trouble? Never explained what ether does or its consequence.
2003 ram 2500 5.9 common rails air dog lift pump industrial injection injection pump DDP 90 horse injectors New fuel rail new long block and the shop tells me the injectors are gushing fuel and the truck will not start. Ideas?
If they are talking high return, then I would suggest, since you have a new engine, having the injectors tested. If you don’t, it could wipe out your new block.
@@thoroughbreddiesel DDP is pretty proud of their products. At first the shop said they had a problem with one injector. I sent it in and they did a crack test on it and of course that was good. They are brand new so I would expect quality control would catch any problems before they shipped. Calibrated power solutions is doing the programming and they say it should at least run with the original tune. Regardless of which tune I have in it whether it’s the original or one of theirs it’s does the same thing. Right before Christmas I’m going to do a cranking no start data log for them at their request. hopefully they will have an aha moment and we can have this truck running in January.
After using the block -off tool and figuring out which hole has the problem, should you not re-torque the cross-over tubes? They can and do leak just like an inj.
There are countless injectors replaced when all that is needed is a re-torque of the tubes.
How do you re torque them?
@@stevenf.5835 A crows foot IIRC
If I have a 2007 with the 5.9 and has the same no start symptoms but with the glow plug light on when truck is running and warm, does that mean its either the grit heater or glow plug that is preventing it from starting (does start with ether)
That's not a glow plug light, that's the grid heater light
I know this is an old comment, but did you figure out yet that the grid heater light comes on because you have excessive fuel return rate? Means your injectors are leaking.
My 03 starts then Dies when cold, more cladder than i remember their being, When watmed up it starts and runs good, although sometimes has hesitation of idle (not like dead pedal).
do you have a video explaining this issue?
I would start with checking your lift pump pressure on the truck. If lift pump pressure is good then I would suspect a faulty injector. Make sure all feed tubes are tightened to tq specs as well.
Mine starts fine when cold no problem if its warm then it's a no start I'm lost last thing on my list is coolent temp sencor learning towards injectors now going to try this tomorrow
Mine is doing the same. Did you figure it out?
Mine also
Have a 05 2500 5.9L cummins common rail and I don't know if I lost my injectors or what but my grid heater light stayed on and then died on me and it has a hard time starting would it be because there's an excessive amount of fuel returning back to the return line to the lift pump from the injectors
Did you find the problem?
I'm having the same issue I had cylinder 1 and 5 injectors missing and ohm'd them out they read 1.4 ohms so decided to change out all 6 with new injectors and still won't start. I have a scanner and will check back into it. Iv been having to start it with a rag and gasoline. Please help me I'm lost I made sure that I had proper fuel flow at the cp3. Also changed out the fuel filter and injector fuel feed tubes torqued everything down properly and still no start.
Did you find the problem?
So how does a cp3 style of high pressure pump regulate pressure. It creates more pressure with more rpm. But how does it reduce pressure. My theory is the FCA reduces lift pump pressure To control cp3 pressure. I might be wrong. but it has to read other inputs to know how much fuel pressure there has to be at a certain rpm or speed. Like reads rpm of the crankshaft from crankshaft position sensor which is a hall effect. Just throwing this out there see if anyone chimes in.
FCA controls the pressure completely, and those pressures are delivered via ECM and can be modified with tuning.
How long should you wait after driving it to check Injectors to avoid the high pressure causing "serious injury or bodily harm" lol but seriously does the pressure come down the second the truck is off?
What does he say at the end? Do. Do not start your truck with what?? I can’t understand him
Ether aka starting fluid
What is good lift pump pressure?
+BrownParticles In looking at what the trucks need to start, Common Rail Dodge will start on very little lift pump pressure, and the reason being is that in certain lift pump configuration the CP3 will pull fuel through the lift pump. But, as a precaution, we like to see no more than 10 psi lift pump pressure at idle.
Question I got high rail pressure code p0148
Could be a lot of things, would start with testing the rail pressure sensor to validate and work from there.
I'm having an start issue on my 03 CR , first start of the day it fires right up with no issues.. But after that there's a 50-50 chance.. Sometimes it will go days with no issue.. i have a fass 150 and a cp3k both installed in September. what do you guys this ?
+Brian Lau That’s a tough one and again, it would fall back to having the block off tool for the ability to isolate an injector to see if leak back is the problem. Sometimes high return will get worse once a truck has had a chance to warm up. There seems to be a correlation between hot fuel and high return rates on the injectors.
ok thanks .. I've been dealing with this for over a month now , DNR customs looked it over when i first started having this problem , they wanted to take apart the high pressure side replace O-rings and send the injectors out to be tested. They didn't say anything about a leak back test , in fact I'm not even sure they put a scan tool on it. They wanted to charge me around 700 and could not even guarantee me my problem will be fixed. Trying to find a good shopping my area can be a problem..
+Thoroughbred Diesel If you guys were a little closer I will just bring it to you
I had similar issues with my 03 2 years ago. My truck had 180k in it at the time and it would start when it was warm, but it would crank much longer than usual. When it was cold...forget it. It would run like a scalded dog all day once you got it running. It turned out that I had 5 injectors with high return rates. New injectors fixed the problem.
hello no start still 2001 .could it be injector pump? dodge 3500.
I have an 03 starts runs for 5 seconds then shut off . Is that a symptom of a stuck open injector
Could be a lift pump issue or possibly high side. Really good to give us a call (866) 737-4966 and we can help.
@@thoroughbreddiesel I just had my cp3 rebuilt and put a fast 165 on the truck didn't fix the issue
whats the clear line comming of the intake manifold
Boost gauge line.
Awesome.! Thankyou for this video!
My wife(2003 5.9 24valve) , has had some issues for a while. I've neglected to seek sooner action! Now she's sittin with roughly 309k with the , original, auto, AUTOMATIC .ORIGINAL!. TRANSMISION ! which is failing, 2nd gear slip and so on.
-At any rate, she won't start without a little bump of liquid crack, ether as some may call it and After every forced start..... I cry, but have no other choice but to revive her majestic roar !!. and get to work..... well now, all of my attention is focused on her! She has earned it! Though my knowledge isn't as strong as I wish it to be , I will do what it takes to get her sexy ass rolling down the street!! THANKYOU!
Hope you get it running bud.
will this block tool work on a 01 Cummins fuel line
No. You would not want to use this tool on a VP truck it will build up to much head pressure and could lead to a seizure of the head and rotor assembly.
Ok my problem is the first start of the day it starts fine runs good no smoke but if I kill the engine it will not start again without ether or gas rag any ideas
Dustin Avant More than likely, with those symptoms, you have a broken diaphragm in your VP. To test this, when you know the truck is going to hard start, simply unplug the power to lift pump. IF the truck starts right off, then shut it down. This will prove that the truck possibly has a weak/damaged diaphragm in the injection pump. As a band aid fix, you could have the truck re flashed by dodge to a current calibration. The newest 98-02 software has a no lift pump power condition while you are cranking the truck, thereby letting it start. Let us know if you need anything.
+Thoroughbred Diesel with the previous conditions what would cause it to not start when the motor is warm? sorry to keep asking questions it just baffles me how it does this this is a 01 2500 ram 5.9
It is relevant to the condition of the diaphragm in the pump at the time. With fuel temperature and added fuel pressure during cranking, the diaphragm is letting the fuel past and the timing advance solenoid in the pump is not functioning properly.
Block off tool I got one off eBay for $20 don't go to dealer they are a rip off mine works great.
Mine don’t start at all
Don’t need the music
start a diesel with a spraycan of fly killer .baygon .its like diesel and a engine no make strange noises
I dont use ether on gas engines.....brakleen or WD40 works
Brake parts cleaner is a SOLVENT. Meaning it will dissolve and remove oil and oily residues. Once inside your cylinder, think about what that will do to it. It's going to remove the thin layer of oil that your piston rings are sliding on...
Spray can either contains lubricants, Brakeclean does not
Project Farm has already debunked the starting fluid myth. Maybe straight ether is a problem.
how about 2001?3500
We have installation videos for VP injectors as well.
my 06 has a fuck ton of blow by. runs smooth, good fuel mileage. what the hell wiped the motor out? Its pushing about 8 inches of water at idle. Thats insane. I got trucks with 400k on them that barely push 2 inches at idle. Free revving my 06 will blow the water out the top of the manometer. My other trucks i can let em sit on the rev limiter and they won't push more than 8 or 9 inch at redline
Injector. Injector caused your original failure. After rebuild be sure to replace all the sticks.
Will these things run smooth with a bad injector thats washing the cylinder? Trying to figure out if its still got a bad injector, or if the P.O. changed the bad injector and kicked it out the door knowing the motor was on the way out.
They can, yes. Can run smooth as silk with a down cylinder too. I’d say you nailed it, or at least that’s what we usually see. PO changes the injector, sees blow by, compression tests it and finds a down cylinder then sells the truck. There are bad people in this world.
Oil or water?
Your head gasket is blown. Better fix it quick
you may want to add a warning about opening a line on the common rail. some people may get seriously injured because of this video from just not knowing. cover your ass!
That's a good point. Under no circumstances open a line while the truck is running. Fuel, at a minimum of 5000psi will spray out. When the truck is not running, not a problem.
There is a huge warning sticker on the valve cover, but yes I am sure it may be worth noting in the video. We will do so now.
I can't imagine that someone would be dumb enough to open a high pressure fuel line (with warning stickers all over it saying not to) when the truck is running lol. You have no business being under the hood if you do that.
