Great overview! After all the info we got at Citcon, I switched my focus from being a jack of all trades industrialist to a more specialized one. I couldnt be happier, and I'm more excited now than I was when I pledged over a decade ago.
@@LoudGuns I'm particularly interested in ground-based mining, which gives me the opportunity to explore caves and other interesting places at the same time. I like mining vehicles, and hopefully ground-based activities will have greater importance in the future. Of course, I enjoy mining with ships as well. It's also nice that I can combine these activities with exploration to find the resources, and enjoy vehicle/cargo transport to satisfy my passion for logistics. :)
This is awesome. I've not seen any other video on this subject with this much detail and clarity. Definitely going to link this video when people question how this stuff will probably work.
Crafting and base building are very exciting features for me. In EvE our corp was part of a null-sec alliance so we could build everything in the game. We did our seat time in war fleets when needed but most of our focus was player owned station logistics and managing manufacturing and resources. Smuggling goods in and out of null-sec was a more interesting chess match than sovereignty blob fleet warfare. Unless you are a huge org a split approach like the vid suggests is a good idea. Use small disposable bases in high-risk areas to get resources and bring them back to high sec to feed industry and/or shops there. While logistically a little more work it may be worth the tax savings to have 2-3 smaller high sec bases with focused use like one just refining and manufacturing or storage and a tiny plot on cheapest land dedicated for a shop. You could also just forego land bases in high sec and build a space station complex instead with all the amenities in one place. It is unclear so far if land extraction is an exclusive way to get some materials or if mining and harvesting and salvaging can cover the essentials.
I'm going to assume that surveying potential base locations won't be limited to the BB ships and vehicles. Solo players or very small orgs aren't going to want to push a Grav Cart around an entire planet looking for the best resources to set their base on top of. I'd like to think that most of the dedicated exploration ships would be capable of fulfilling this role. Just some copium for holding on to my 400i.
I really hope i can build my "cabin in the woods" floating in the middle of space somewhere, just a smallish space hab, no bigger than Caterpillar, enough for a docking port, fuel storage, life support, living area, somewhere to craft stuff and a place to store some cargo boxes.
Great work LG. As a big fan of the Pioneer original concept, I was sad to see the arm disappear, but I get it given I can make a hash of landing a Pisces on marginally undulating terrain. I have an idea though, perhaps the arm should go vertical to become the base building control and viewing tower like the static construction hub building tower? Discuss 🤔
I am looking forward to this aspect of the game once it is introduced. I was a bit saddened that the construction vehicles weren't available for concept purchase this IAE.
When will we be able to buy apartments in the cities which we can furnish? I'm surprised a more complicated base building feature will make it into the game first ..
@@jessegto1 they haven’t talked about that in a while, but considering persistent personal hangars are in there’s not much of a tech leap to get to player housing in LZ’s

I got a pioneer on original concept. Not sure how its going to play out yet. Im not part of an org, but i definitely want to pursue this. I am very good at managing logistics, people, or groups of people, assets, and navigation. I envision working with someone who has some of the skills that i lack in combat and defense and the sky is the limit. Miners, haulers, crafters, and fighters arent difficult to find. I would definitely be looking to partner with someone who is interested in specializing in combat/defense to set up defenses, run battle stations and a small group of fighters. It takes a lot of skill to do that correctly in my opinion
Wonderful video, and at almost 40 minutes, I would not even hazard a guess as to how many hours you spent putting it together? Thank you for your hard work. As a lunatic base builder in single-player games myself (Fallout, Satisfactory, No Man's Sky), Star Citizen is the first game where I will face the reality of base destruction as the "recipient." Not sure if I have the heart to destroy someone else's hard work, though I guess if it's my org attacking another org's base where this sort of gameplay is accepted and enjoyed by both sides, I guess I will have to grab a pitchfork and join in! I like the plan to build the primary base in High Sec space, and build temporary, disposable bases in Pyro and Nyx for more "grab and go" resource extraction, with refining and fabrication taking place elsewhere. Will definitely join your org to participate, thank you, and looking forward to part two!
@@SynthetiGek ah while it was a fair bit of work it’s the kind of research geeking that I love doing - my hands did get a wee bit sore from all the typing though tbf 😂 PvP base building can always be a bit tough, and a fair few times in other games the prospect of rebuilding after getting fully wiped out has made me throw in the towel - but I always come back for more 😂
Love the video, these are the things I'm most excited for in SC. I really can't wait to get started, though I'm sure it will be a while before half of this is even implemented. I wonder if you will be able to build up in scale, eventually. Example, start with the build part to build small structures, but can follow a build path to eventually build mediums, then to large and finally extra larges. Like the 'medium' constructor is considered a 'small' building, the 'large' constructor is a 'medium' sized building, etc. OR, are you going to have to pay someone (or buy your own) to build it for your so you can start making the next size larger structures.
@@MidKnight2142 I think one thing that might prove quite interesting is the construction hub building that was shown in the larger base. I can imagine that - if you’ve found a plot you like but haven’t got a large or above building ship - you’d be able to pay someone with a Pioneer or Starlancer to come and build that hub for you. Then you can take it from there.
@LoudGuns True...I don't know why construction never occurred to me as a career path...maybe just because it hasn't been implemented yet. I've already gotten involved with Mining, Salvaging and Cargo Hauling (not terribly interested in combat), I would actually love to see construction as a career path now, with appropriate missions like those already existing mechanics.
It should all just be instanced. Then we could build high definition , individualised bases, rather than the identical cookie cutter bases everyone will no doubt have.
I am torn on if Blueprints should be tradeable. It would add another money sink in the game and would give players another avenue for bartering/trading, but if they are farmeable then it would create points where people would grind BPs and mess with the scarcity of them. If a person worked really hard to be the only person in their org who has the BP to craft an F7A Hornet Mk2, then they deserve the right to be "the guy" you went to for one.
@@artuno1207 I suppose the question there is scarcity - like how hard is it to get. I also kinda think some BP’s like rep locked ones shouldn’t be tradeable while others like those you loot should be (allowing your explorers to feed your crafters etc).
Will base building be blocked from locations that contain sand caves? Someone builds a mining enterence locked over the cave, exploiting a resource and denying access to the rest of the community? These kinds of exploites are done in other games that have MMO and resource gathering.
@@Volf1916 yeah I’m not sure tbh (played enough Ark to know the pain of finding bricked up caves!). In the surveying bit they did show whether building was permitted- example they used was a nature reserve but would imagine this feature could cover blocking points of interest.
