    I am a complete beginner who, because I am no artist, can make repeated attempts to produce a decent little painting with no pressure and no expectation. Your tutorials are a delight to watch; perhaps I'll be abler to do some of what you are doing one day, but just watching and listening to you while you work is so peaceful. Despite not having real talent to speak of, just the attempt has been great for me. Your tutorials are at once peaceful, informative and encouraging. Thank you so much for this little island of calm and sanity amidst so much discord... Kindest regards....robert

      Robert, you are an artist in the making! Not fluffing your feathers, it’s truth.
      Art isn’t about talent, it’s about skills learned, time invested to hone those skills (practice) & persistence to keep going. All artists go through growing pains of frustration & self doubt. Push through that, quiet the negative chatter & you will begin to see improvements, learning from trial and error, gaining confidence with each piece. How many tries does it take to learn to ride a bike well? Same principle applies to art & any new endeavor.
      Hang in there & hush that naysayer in your head. Hope this encourages you!

      Thank you for writing the thoughts running through my mind. When I start, dare I say, a painting, it is always with a hope and a prayer. I hear that through the process, there’s a period of uncertainty, boy do I feel uncertain but I also refuse to give up because it’s not my style. I will continue to work at getting better, some day I might even call myself an artist.♥️

    Since I found your channel I have discovered a new world and I am fascinated with watercolours.
    Thank you very much for sharing all your knowledge. You are very very generous. I have no words to thank you for everything you teach and encourage us. You are a true teacher, who transmits his knowledge, with good humor, and who knows how to bring out the best in a person.
    Your book is very good, but your step-by-step videos are amazing. Happy to have discovered your channel and although I still don't know how to paint, I really enjoy a lot what I'm going to do thanks to you.

    I had no idea that I was going to watch 3 of your tutorials on waves, water & reflections this morning, but I'm glad I did - excellent tips and ideas for beginners and improvers. It's lovely to see your mixing palette so that I can see the water/pigment ratio which is always something that I could improve on. Brilliant tutorial - thanks Paul x

    Wow, loved this video, thank you. Im wondering how I mix my own turquoise, if I don´t have phtalo green? I have the right turquoise color in a tube (cobalt turquoise light from w&n) , it´s just that I know noticed that I dont like it so much because it is not transparent. I can only find turquoise mixing with oils, where they mix in white with an unnamed yellow and unnamed blue.

    Hi Paul, I have started to explore water colour after a diagnosis of metastatic oesopageal cancer. I have always appreciated art but your generosity in sharing the joy of water colour has been inspirational. Thank you.. I number my water colours in an attempt to reduce my judgement of good or bad. for me it the challenge and relaxation combined with the ability to allow the water to work. Im not painting its water colour and has a life of its own. Im finding values and perspective very challenging so thank you for you attention to detail. Frank

    Doesn’t the razor blade scratch and ruin the paper? It gives a nice effect, but wouldn’t it damage the paper less if you used white ink with a dry brush or gouache instead?

    • @ArtbyPaulClark
      @ArtbyPaulClark  3 роки тому +1

      No, just lightly scratch the top layer of paint - white ink or gouache doesn't have the same whiteness as the paper.

    Hi, Paul. I somehow missed this marvelous water tutorial earlier this winter, when I was struggling mightily with the advice and examples of other watercolor artists. Now, here you are, offering us simpler, straightforward, and proven techniques to create different "looks" in water, including ROUGH water, which other artists usually avoid or fail at. Thank you so much, Chris (Maine, USA)

    Two years later and you are still helping us _immensely_. Thank you very much for this. I studied art at an atelier one semester and the watercolor teacher was... hard to learn from. I am just now beginning to re-engage with watercolor and the comments are right, your pedagogy is so good. Thank you thank you thank you. :)

    Paul, I don't know if you've ever been asked this question. When you are doing these tutorials are you looking at a photo of what you're painting or have you just done these so many times that it's not necessary? And as a follow-up. How many years did it take you before you became adept at painting from your imagination? Thank you.

    • @ArtbyPaulClark
      @ArtbyPaulClark  Рік тому

      Both - sometimes from my imagination and sometimes from photos - I guess I've always done it!
