EA and Dice are still failing to realise that the core gameplay is rotten, and they shouldn't have tried chasing trends as hard as they did. I don't understand how one can become so delusional.
Money man. They saw how much BRs like Warzone and Apex have blown up. Also CoD (pre Vanguard and all the current issues) has also been a hit in terms of sales, microtransactions revenue and overall media coverage which accounted for PR. They tried do follow the money, which made them follow trends which do not sit well with Battlefield community. We hoped for a game which could fit into BF4s shoes, but what we got instead? Anthem 2
Exactly. We don't care so much about bugs at release (eventually always fixed) but for gameplay. And new engine, home office and other excuses don't address the fact they changed everything trying to copy other successful franchises (CoD, Apex, etc). They are failing bc of this, not bc of bugs, glitches or performance.
I love Halo, been playing since day one. Still installed and tried 2042, the game is just bad due entirely because DICE have just lost it... 343 struggled to get Halo into the modern day but they have done a great job of updating it but keeping it fundamentally Halo. Dice on the other hand just completely ripped apart that Battlefield formula, like Rush. I love Rush but where is it? They have done their best to get rid of it ever since BF3 and i think it's mainly due to the fact they have to put a lot of effort into making good maps. The state of DICE currently is, i know a lot of people like me love Rush and yet in 2042 it's just more massive conquest games which is boring as hell
There is absoluterly no way that they did not expect backlash for this release. No logical people can release a game in the state that this one was released, and expect people to be happy to have spent as much as they did. Always use excuses for poor release, why not just make games complete and playable before release. They can release as many statements as they want, they failed where there was no reason to fail...
It's due to the way gaming developers and publishers interact. Gaming publishers like EA are notorious for pushing deadlines that developers can't meet. Games are developed accordingly to budgeting and time allotted to complete it by a certain date. Often though, those developers are hard pressed to "speed up" development for earlier releases which tend lead to either over budgeting or under budgeting. Also, developers are typically dealing with marketing elites who have literally 0 experience developing games or software so all they know is "get the cool game done" so they can sell it ASAP, fix any bugs later in DLC patches. Marketing gives 0 shits about people and only see profit numbers as a thing. They're not passionate about game development nor care about the community or series behind it. It's why any aspiring developer should be doing indie projects and not slaving to these manipulator companies. You're just numbers to these marketing elites. I feel bad for the developers though because I know many of them actually do care. Whenever these publishers promise HUGE things, they often can't meet their own expectations. Another example is Cyberpunk 2077. Lesson learned is don't try to slap on 20xx on your game. It's doomed to fail and stop supporting shit companies like EA.
They expected their fans to be patient beta testers, but they erred in understanding how truly unready their product was for even that preliminary step. Clearly it needed at least a year more development before public testing. EA/Dice has lost all credibility over the last several years.
Exactly, I'm thinking how could this game not have met their expectations? I mean they had high expectations for this broken game? Completely delusional and way out of touch.
A moment of silence for the low and mid-level game developers who had little to no say in the creative direction and release of this game, but now have the game’s countless problems resting entirely on their shoulders to fix. I can’t imagine the amount of overtime these poor employees are putting in to make up for the leadership’s poor decision making.
@@relld05 Oh, come on! They were able to shove the stubs of the previous series into the new battlefield and everything worked fine. Does Battlefield 3 look bad on this engine?
Here’s an idea: literally take BF4 and ask “how do we make this better without changing the whole mechanics of the game.” More weapons, more tools, more skins, more destruction, more maps - variants of CQB and massive scale. Done.
Fr they could've done this, and if they wanted to monetize it cringey ik but it makes game money add skins and alot more customization for the classes not fucking specialist
I've seen this play out so many times. At some point the consumers have to take responsibility for this. The warning signs were there but people always convince themselves that these giant companies just want to give them a quality gaming experience but they don't. They just want your money and you keep giving it to them. My point is you have two options. Either accept that if you keep buying giant AAA games at launch they're gonna be shitty sometimes and stop complaining about it, or stop giving them your money.
I think the issue here was though is that Dice were held to a higher standard than most when it came to game launches or more trusted I should say to release a good product. Much like project red they really have lost the trust of the fanbase and I'm sure that will reflect in their pre order numbers in any future titles.
I played 2042 for almost three months. Then they announced the delays. I uninstalled. At 40 years old, It really sucks to see the game franchise I literally grew up with die a horrible death. It’s the loss of a great friend.
Exactly how I feel about this... i grew up playing BF1942 and was blown away. Since then I bought every Battlefield that they released and had more ore less fun with every BF game so far. But BF 2042.... i just don't know, i had fun playing but im already fed up with it and just uninstalled it a week ago
@@oOPrinzValiumOo on top of all that. I am really struggling to find my game lately. I’m not a MTX skin guy and I sure a hell don’t like Fortnite or Apex. I want a straight up non mil-sim shooter. I just want battlefield 4 updated and better anti cheat. I’ll be golden.
@@rumham2514 bfv is kinda good on console. Too many cheaters on pc. Arma, if your hardcore. Batallion 1944 if you digged the WW2 cod games (back before perks and kill streaks ruined cod). So basically think cod2-ish stuff Hell let loose, haven't played it but bf failure made it more popular. Verdun, WW1 shooter.....not my taste. Squad, friends are telling me I should check it out sometimes.
Same I’m nearing 38 and I can’t say I’ve had a “holy shit that was awesome” moment in battlefield since battlefield 1. Perhaps a few times in BFV. I was so pumped for this game and waited eagerly for it to release and now I haven’t touched it in a week and just can’t have fun. This game is a travesty, really depressing
@@justindavis2711hopefully this a lesson to them. You can get your money back and more profits a year delayed or the entire game can flop and you gey much less back now after the player base disowns it
Remember these are the same people who told us 2042 was "Ahead of schedule". This is nothing but excuses by people who are completely and utterly out of touch with their audience. They should have delayed this game by another year and they know it.
Delaying the game any amount of time wouldn't have made any difference the game is a shitshow from the ground up and is fundamentally missing what makes battlefield, battlefield. There's only so much you can polish a turd.
They should remake the game from the ground up and it needs more time for development maybe another year or two , I agree with all of you . They need to listen to the customers I mean players as well . Even the U.S. Army is better at listening than them , the U.S. Army has soldier touchpoints where they get feedback for say new equipment . They should focus on this game and nothing else we don't need another BFV termination . No one will want to play another Battlefield game in the future from them after all of this anyway . A complete remake and if it is still called 2042 it better be an actual 2040s game that looks like how the 2040s and how a ' battlefield ' will look like . I won't get too deep into that however
As soon as the Video ended and the BF3 theme tune started, it really brought back the memories of the good old days when devs put their heart and soul into a game that we all loved.
Looking at how Battlefield 4 was launched with all the game breaking bugs, I don't think they can use the global pandemic as an excuse. They even use their ability of turning a buggy mess into a working game as a DICE strength. Their core decisions with regards to the gameplay, game mechanics and general attitude against the community has been horrible for a while now. They are looking for external excuses instead of looking at their own shortcomings and faults.
I agree but then again, Battlefield 4 even in the state it launched in, had a present core concept of what what it's supposed to be. That is something that 2042 doesn't have any semblance of whatsoever. IMO.
@@xXxMrRazorxXx Absolutely. There was a great game below all the bugs and that's why I think Battlefield 4 is now regarded as the best Battlefield game of all time. (or just as good as Bad Company 2). But even back then, I was just shocked that DICE took a lot of steps back from Battlefield 3, especially with QOL improvement and legacy bugs.
128 is doable on the right maps. But then you have other maps like the old bad company map on the harbor (can’t think of the name) that’s not 128 I think it’s 64. But there is so much shit going on with foot soldiers and too much overpowered air support it’s just a absolute cluster fk and isn’t enjoyable to play. There is simply too much going on vs how it originally was in the old game.
Honestly, This is absolutely pathetic coming from EA and DICE. Most of the excuses stated were just unjustified. EA publish this game, knowing that the game was clearly in a poor state. DICE themselves are so incompetent because they choosed to go through all these design choices, and ignore all of the core aspects of what made Battlefield, BATTLEFIELD. Even when we arrive to the summer, the game will probably be Dead at that point. Regardless, this game is just a huge insult to the Battlefield Community and Gaming in General.
I wouldnt even csll the excuses unjustified just suuuuuuuper out of touch. EA doesnt understand what makes a game great all they know is FPS=$$$$$ so when a FPS doesnt sell they dont look at what made the previous games great they double down on the bad ideas. they dont understand BF players dont want specialists all they see is other FPS with specialists selling like crazy so they think adding specialists to BF means itll improve the game and the sales. On paper this does make sense but in reality its the opposite of what the BF players want.
The thing that bugs me with the skins and specialists part, barring the awful end game comments, is the fact that people on the enemy team look exactly like your teammates. There are no factions or a differentiation between enemy and team, making it feel like a comic show, when battleifields roots are in realism
As a 50 year old who started with 1942, I've finally accepted the fact BF is dead. I hope Embark comes out with something worth playing. Really need a game where more than 4 of my buds can play together or at least join on the same server. With the short attention span of Publishers, I really don't see EA spending any more resources on 2042.
If something is successful for 20 years, you don’t change the core mechanics of whatever it is. That’s always your starting point, don’t change it. Build new things around it, but don’t change what made that thing successful. Unfortunately EA DICE changed that core thing and have subsequently failed.
No, I actually think you are wrong here. I think a lot of companies could learn from EA. Nintendo is one of them. Take Mario for example, sure they sell a respectable amount of copies, but imagine how many more copies they would sell if the tried to turn that franchise into a Battle royale shooter! Especially with a really gory zombie mode. You have to get into the mind of the general EA exec and imagine Mario (the part that attracts customers in age groups from 8 years and up) combined with a chain saw that slices through raw meat (something for customers 18 and upwards). Like imagine how much money that would bring in?! THATS MONEY PRINTING LEVELS!!!!!!!
Mario and battlefield can't be compared! One was designed for constant evolution and reinvention to such a degree that the identity of Mario can be molded to what Nintendo feels like. Battlefield on the other had has such a strict set of mechanics and rules that any deviation from those core rules and mechanics that make up the over all DNA of battlefield leads to disaster! Like COD, battlefield has a limited range to reinvent from! Mario is virtually liquid by design!
I remember a time when Dice was creating trends instead of chasing them! If you're doing your own thing and it's working, don't turn around to do what everyone else is doing just because it is also working!
"Hope you liked the video cause I didn't like making it" I really felt that from Westie. Its a shame this game turned out how it did and all the decisions made.....how could they not see how this was going to go down with players who have played these games since Battlefield 2! I think we all thought 128 players was going to be hella amazing, getting to see more destruction and chaos...but I think that was the biggest problem with this, if it meant they had to turned down the quality for the entire game then it should have stayed 64 players. As westie said, they should have followed the pillars of the franchise and this game could have been amazing. All they had to do was take what made BF4 successful and just turn the volume up to 11 and we all could be playing an amazing BF game.
and even more gut wrenching that they keep spewing this shit, saying feedback matters, while simutaneously ignoring feedback while acting like this game is only bad because of bugs and not because it was poorly designed and nobody called out bad design choices because they didn't want to hurt feelings.
Sometimes you have to go back to go forward, personally it's probably the best thing that could happen as now they will go back to the drawing board & find what made the previous titles Battlefield 1-3-4 so good
COD is broken asf, Battlefield is slowly dying. Now what are we supposed to be playing if the good games are not the good games anymore, i dont see a bright future for neither one of the 2
@@TheWESTSIDE1967 it could go either ways... worst case ea will plug battlefield out since its no longer their flagship fps (apex legends now takes that), best case if they go back to the drawing board and do a major restructuring of dice, or maybe sell the franchise to a studio that understands bf maybe
Ah yes a meeting to make excuses, the only one I’ll accept is the pandemic happening, a Michelin star chef doesn’t send out food to a customer if it’s not perfect because the chef knows that once that bad experience has happened then there’s not much they can do to resolve that. I’m coming to the realisation that I’ll never have another Bad Company 2 experience and that’s truely upsetting but it is what it is.
Expect Bad Company 3 for the next game. Bad Company can easily translate to the rumored hero shooter. And honestly I think they're going to tug our heart strings and nostalgia as a last ditch to save the series. They'll just kill it next title much like Medal of Honor
Even the pandemic excuse doesn’t really make sense. We’ve all had to work through a pandemic and the quality of my work doesn’t drop during that time. Of course it’s harder to do, but if you know as a company that people can’t do their best in the situation why continue to push for a release?
Yea I wish I learned that sooner too! I believed this would be the one that we all wanted! And it was the worst one yet. Don’t trust them at all anymore
I’ve been too proud to think like this, as I always tried to keep an optimistic way of thinking. I can’t do that anymore, I’m just frustrated with the game.
These snippets from the town hall, with the exception of a few, sound like excuses. The leadership team needs to own their decisions (not blame circumstances) that they made, say sorry, and fix it with the hope that the community will forgive them. If we don’t than they need to take real stock of who is on the team (leadership all of the way to devs) and not consider the franchise as “dead”.
They blame Halo and the engine cause they cant even create a working game with basic fps features by using 3 studios in 3 years. 😆 How about scrap the "tornados", skins and other goofy shit before you have a working basic fps game and if necessary use older version of the engine (bf1/5) and make a game like bf3 and 4. Nobody asked for tornados, 128players, maps with no cover and bad design overal, specialists or any of the other corny sht that 2042 has.
They basically said, "it would have been good but someone else released a WORKING GAME, so it made us look bad, cuz our game doesn't work" like, what the actual F*** the audacity
I can’t understand how someone, let alone a whole fucking team of devs would purposely put truly irritating shit like the ‘don’t be sad....’ nonsense in their game and expect people to be ‘oh that’s awesome!’.
Hey Westie I just wanted to confirm for you that the ea playtesters did indeed get to play the game early. I can also confirm that the feedback and subsequent communication at that time was all "don't worry we fixed this already", "this is just an old build", and "we are aware of this issue and it is top priority for us". The same issues and problems persisted to launch months and months later.
It is one thing to say, this bug is fixed, old build, etc. What I'm hearing as a bigger complaint is, this isn't a Battlefield game. They produced something else and called it a "Battlefield" title. No destruction of buildings to speak of, no VOIP on a "Squad" based game, specialists v. Classes. It appears, someone high up, sold EA on producing a game they could get players to buy things for cash, based on other "successful" game models. That was the mistake. I don't know if they could turn this around. Maps smaller, more crowded with buildings, destruction, make different costumes for each side as I don't see them switching the game to class system... etc...
For me... When it comes to the "Specialists" I was under the impression they were akin to the 'Elite' kits.... But when it became apparent that it replaced the "Class" system.... The Red Alert klaxons started to Flare up!!
Its really not difficult. They need to look at BF2, Bad Company 2, BF3 and BF4 to understand what made Battlefield games incredibly popular. You felt like an ordinary soldier in a large sandbox with many tools, additions and weapons to unlock through playing the game which kept players coming back. You are apart of a 32 man team but split into squads where each role complimented the other. That is literally it, instead they have stripped these roles out, made huge empty maps, drastically reduced content unlocks (paywalls) and streamlining them into the same gameplay. They need to be building on features and game stability each game with a new setting whilst keeping the core gameplay the same, that is all we want. It blows my mind how AAA games released 15 years ago are better and more feature rich than what we presently have.
Yeah the cod vs battlefield debate was great to see in 2016. The legendary amount of dislikes IW got compared to the reveal of battlefield one may be battlefield's pinnacle moment, all downhill from there. And its only because EA/DICE chooses to chase trends instead if setting them.
As a BF player since 2009 with BC2 you nailed this. I completely agree with your sentiment. BF 3 and 4 were absolutely amazing and I still play them 10 years later like so many others. You want to know the Hallmark of a great game and franchise? That's it right there. Several thousand still playing on steam (plus origin)
I’m tired of the excuses. We have made it clear- we want quality. We love DICE and want them to take there time. If the game is not ready, then please for the love of God, tell us and keep developing it
Good grief, BF4 and BF1 are amazing games. BF4 was so tactical and BF1 is the most immersive console game I’ve experienced (peeps should give a chance). DICE knows how to make good games… stop trying to go at the pace of COD or another shit company… take your time
No we don’t love DICE. We used to love DICE, when the studio was actually good. DICE these days aren’t the DICE we knew back then. They fuckin suck now and it’s obviously showing. BF5 and BF2042, 2 major let downs in a row. Fuck DICE
It should not be difficult for a multi-billion dollar company to make a successful Battlefield game... at least you could think. (1) Listen to your community (2) Your fanbase wants BF 3 and 4 with BF5 mechanics and BF1 athmosphere (3) Stop trying to lecture you fan base (the ones who pay you the dollars) (4) Produce according to market demand and stop producing what YOU think the market SHOULD want. (5) If gamers want to play Cod or Fortnite then they will buy it (6) Stop copying and (re)start being innovative and being the industry leader (again) that the others are copying You are welcome.
It's sad to see that even if the game would've been released very well polished in terms of performance and bugs, the lack of destruction, classes removal, poor arsenal, maps...are still major issues like Westie pointed out.
The fact that the game launched with so many bugs is so upsetting and it really shows how corporate structure just destroyed a product. However, the horrifying part is not the bugs. That can be fixed and has seemed to have happened. The horrifying part is that they added the things we didn't care about, and left out the things that mattered. We got skins and characters that were clearly there to make more profit. We didn't get a class system that forces team co-operation. We got 128 player capacity, but we got maps that have little to no cover and make you wander aimlessly across the map looking for action. We got game modes that seemed okay but still leave hardly any purpose to game, and we didn't get a scoreboard or VOIP. We wanted a gritty game with loads of guns, attachments, tools, and more, but we got 2 or 3 guns in an entire weapon type and characters that don't make sense in a narrative that felt post apocalyptic and brutal. I say all of this because even when the suits realize that they're game sucks butt, they are either too arrogant, or too ignorant to "stoop" to the level of the gamer to actually find out what makes their games good. It is just another classic example of how poor leadership and corporate bureaucracy ruining a product because the high level execs don't actually have any connection with the community. They put too much reliance on their spreadsheets and market research to actually let the developers and REAL gamers have an influence on how the game is actually made. It is a shame, and I won't be buying the next game if something major doesn't change.
I absolutely don't belive that there was much "positive feedback" from the Beta. They screwed up and they need to wear that on their sleeve. They chased the Operators because they saw dollar signs. Instead of looking at it logically and at least have operators be locked to classes. That way they could sell operators and players would still have the class system we always had. But there is also so many more issues that plagues BF2042, I don't even know where to start. And also how they are handling Origin and the copies that sold on that platform. I have a deluxe edition that I haven't even played. And I can't refund it because refunds have to be done within 48 hours (even if the game isn't played), and they started selling pre orders MONTHS before launch. So to gain back SOME good faith they should offer refunds for people that gave them a chance and was hoping it would get better. Specially people that don't even have played the game on that platform. They charged €120 for a game that they KNEW wasn't gonna be remotely close to acceptable at launch, but they still decided to sell it as a full priced AAA game. When at BEST they should have just sold it as a WIP/Early Access title with a reduced price, for people that wanted to support it and give feedback. It's the last time I buy any game on Origin. At least on steam you can ask for a refund as long as it's not played for more than 2 hours. EA & Dice need to figure out a way to do the community right and should offer refunds until the game is in a playable state.
It depends on the environment. I used to do focus groups for a bunch of different products for cash when I was at university. Sometimes they push the group to say what they want to hear. As a person getting payed to be there wanting to be payed for the next one you just don’t care enough to argue
@@krishutch3d They received so much positive feedback that the PR team had to go into overdrive to assure everyone that the beta was outdated and didn't reflect what was being released... You don't set the spin machine to 11 if you're already getting mostly positive feedback.
As a fan its so disappointing to see EA & Dice come up with so many excuses when during the marketing & the beta & the launch of the game NONE of them were saying this.
The game dev industry may be one of the few where remote work is harder. Most other dev teams are hitting goals. My team actually increased productivity when working from home, and that convinced our company to make it permanent. Our devs are happy. It sounds like EA could use a few more software architects to better design and plan engine upgrades.
the map sector design is really bizarre, it would be better as 5 capture flag points like in BF4, with better terrain and map design to make a frontline battle, siege and flank squad team play. like all the old BF games.
Map design was based off a battle royal style game. It was changed halfway through development. Reason a few maps are completely massive for no reason.
@@rufiorufioo the Kaleidoscope actually make a return in EA's Apex in season 12 right now! there are huge swath of the BR map that has almost exactly the same triangular style. i bet the same person worked on both
It’s a shame to see such a great franchise tank as badly as it has and I feel bad for the devs that actually cared, that being said I want a refund and anyone who wants one deserves one because the game is a complete mess, that is doubtful to ever be fixed to an acceptable standard.
If I was an EA play tester, I would have probably reported poor performance and overall blandness but they probably would have responded to the general testers with an excuse that everything complained about is already fixed and/or known about and being worked on, and they are interested in technical performance and not gameplay.
Nah man, more than half the developers are given a tiny fraction to work on, and are not responsible for the macro state of the game and it's direction. There's directors for a reason. Concentrate your anger on them.
In reality there’s not much of a point in patching and updating this game. The players are already gone and a scoreboard being introduced in the summertime isn’t going to cause a mass influx of players.
Westie, you need to check out Tom's video about the development cycle of 2042. It explains all the missing features. It was supposed to be a Battle Royale, but was changed midway through. That's why it feels like warzone, because it was visioned to be, but WZ took the crown away.
That actually makes sense. The large Maps, the player numbers, the lack of a single player, the specialists, the atmosphere, it all could make a good BR. Seems quite logical. But even then, it baffles me, that EA and DICE are not noticing that this is not what we want.
They knew there will be backlash from BF players, but they didn’t care. Why? Because they wanted to attract new players to BF from PUBG or similar games to make more money. EA and DICE they make games to make money, not make players happy.
Makes me really sad seeing the great Trailer in the background and thinking about what a great game this could have been. Regarding the Video, yea what did they think if you sell something and people tell you what they want, and you just proceed to do the oposite what did they expect. 🤷
My overriding feeling from this video and the information shared is that Dice/EA have no respect for their customers and valued quick and easy monetisation over customer satisfaction. Yet again ....heads need to roll on this one but they won't.
Remember how they were telling people 'performance issues are fixed in the final game' when the Beta had mixed reviews? It was not only that they chose to release a game with problems, they lied about the problems and the final state of the game.
I feel like it’s not accurate when you say they are working from home and not being able to interact with each other. They can! The tools and resources are out there for them to communicate with one another and even have video meetings. I feel like working from home isn’t an excuse. We have technology for one another to communicate together
Claiming that player expectations have changed when it comes to game quality at launch is definitely talking rubbish as well. Yes, battlefield 4 and battlefield 5 launched in poor states with a lot of bugs, but saying that this was expected or accepted by the players is deluded, the feedback was highly critical slamming the decision to launch in such a poor state. The message was clear - don't launch a game in a bad state again. They've gone ahead and released in a poor state anyway and are now surprised that the response has been even stronger saying that it's not acceptable to release an unfinished product. It's sadly laughable that they have the audacity to blame the 'changing player expectations' in this case. The expectations haven't changed here, they've been the same all along. The players have just run out of patience for this poor behaviour.
It's really hard, near impossible to see how this game is fixed/makes a comeback. With so many bugs and essentially features that aren't there which should be in a Battlefield game, it would make more sense for EA/DICE to cancel future plans and support for BF2042, go back to the drawing board and actually make a 'Battlefield' game.
4:00 I can’t help but get get “offended” for lack of a better term…when I hear this lol. How did bfv not deliver on this? I thought it was and still is an amazing title in the franchise. Could all be bc it was my 1st battlefield experience, but I fell in love with it the minute I played it. They obviously went in the wrong direction entirely after launch. But if you play the game and ignore all that, it’s really great. Sorry for rant 🤓
It was sorta like the baby steps for 2042 like it started heading in this direction but luckily they heard us (sadly at the very end) and they polished the turd turning it into a decent game even though it’s lacking the atmosphere of a ww2 game
BFV was an absolute embarrassment to the franchise until the Pacific DLC, which was promptly ruined by TTK 6.2. Only reason Battlefield V is somewhat decent now is because the community had to fight tooth and nail and attack DICE until they listened, giving us better cosmetics for a WWII game and fixing TTK slightly.
It's an sjw oriented game made to please the feminists on twitter who wanted to see actual soldiers replaced with woman and disregard any achievements those men did. Just look at the factions, voicelines, trailers and the response by the bf team. They just said their fanbase were "ignorant" because they didn't know woman with robot arms were in ww2. Also told the fans "don't buy the game if you don't like it" and the everyone's battlefield hashtag along with cringy presentations with hosts who clearly never played bf didn't help as well. Just watch the bfv presentation thing with trevor noah and you'll probably die of cringe before you can dial 911 for help.
@@obviouspseudonym9345 I thought the ttk was perfect when it came out. And I liked all of the maps before the pacific. I actually dislike the pacific ones most in that game. But the longer ttk thing they did was the most trash ever I do agree on that. Luckily they switched it kind of back to where it was at launch. But idk. I must be weird when it comes to this opinion bc most do tend to be on the same fence ur on when it comes down to it. As someone who played it since launch and got to almost level 200 I thought it was greatness and I just hate how everyone tags it as the worst title in the franchise. Like…hardline existed.
Sadly it appears someone at EA thought it would be easier (more profitable) to copy the COD methods and directed DICE to do so. The frostbite debacle does explain somewhat why the last gen version has many more graphics issues than the current gen. I have both and the last gen version has, for me, many more issues and glitches.
A year ago all I heard from ea was "we've never been so far ahead in a battlefield game," now they want us to feel bad for them? Yea sorry I don't have sympathy for liars
I pretty much agree with all criticism for this game, as battlefield fan at heart and always have been. However I wanted to highlight something that EA said in the town hall meeting that I havnt heard Jackfrags, You, LevelCap and more even mention yet but I think everyone knows. This is not a new issue for Dice and EA. Lets remember Battlefield 4, 1, and 5 but most importantly the fact that DICE is not taking full responsibility for this. When they say something along the lines of "Players expections have changed." Well no they havnt, STUDIOS have changed. Most will probably agree that the gaming industry is not the same as it once was 20+ years ago. Its not "Art" so to speak to the developers and mainly the publishers anymore. I am not saying that there arnt developers that care about their games and how they build them as "Art." Those developers certainly exist I.E. Battlestate Games or 4A Studios(IMO Not looking to hear from the tarkov haters but Battlestate certainly dedicates shit tons of times to the game and alot more blood, sweat, and tears than EA/Activision ever would.)But to say that player expectations changed when they didnt even implement a damn scoreboard.... cmon DICE. Its bullshit PR we heard and Halo had very little impact on the release of this game. This is more of an opinion on the over all AAA gaming industry as a whole. Lets note multiple AAA Budget games that have come out from these major AAA Studios in recent years. CyberPunk, Battlefront 2, New World, Any CoD since Bo2, Battlefield 4, 1, 5, 2042, Skyrim(Good game but the Bethesda has immoral business practices I.E. milking), Fallout 4, 76, Assassins Creed, Halo 4, 5, and the list goes on. I am sure almost every person reading has had a AAA Developer take your pre-order money and absolutely dissapoint you. Its happened to me a few times when I try to stay supportive of a game everyone is saying will flop. These developers are trying to do as little as possible and still plaster a $60-70 price tag on games that cant even compete with the quality $20 indie games can provide at times. They cut corners consistently and have been cutting more content every release all the while raising prices or adding as many possible avenues to make money from you. They clearly spend more time worrying about how they are gonna get more money out of your pocket after release than they are worried about developing a game. They have lost sigh of the original game development mindset that made them so big in the first place and created insanely loyal fanbases. These new business practices that arnt so new anymore are destroying the games we love and we keep eating the shit for it. I get pissed off thinking about how much I loved battlefield and regarded it as MY CoD killer. It made me realize how bad CoD was in regards to the amount of Versatility in play style, experience, game-play and much more. Not to say CoD wasnt good for a time, it was. Point of all this is that NO Players DID NOT change expectations, we MAINTAINED the same ones DEVELOPERS like DICE/Activision and much more set for US long ago. Stop buying into the bullshit these Companys PR Reps feed you. Vote with your wallet and wait till release for every game you want to play. Dont fall for the trap of that Early Access(Whole different problem by itself) content or that pre-order ingame item. You dont need to flex it on people. If the developers care, you will see that from the community but these games are tailored for us gamers anymore. Its tailored to how much money they can get from your wallet by using your emotions of nostalgia, excitement, loyalty, etc. AAA Development is not what it used to be and until that changes I hope everyone looks a little closer at each game and votes with their wallet. DICE is fucked for saying we changed our expectations when in reality they failed to meet ours because they wanted to cut every corner possible to make as much money as possible and then some. It unfair to us as players. Thanks for joining my ted talk.
It's super depressing honestly that Battlefield is in the state that it's in. I'm been starving for a proper, next gen exclusive Battlefield game. Something just like Battlefield 3 & 4, with destruction like DICE teased in a video before 2042 released. The whole nine yards. Man I really wonder what a next gen Battlefield 4 type game would be like. That would be phenomenal...
The failed because they no longer have devs who play or have passion about their own game, they have EA who do not have a clue about what gamers actually want or what gamers expect in a game and they are going to die as a company because of it. It is great and a long time coming.
Just add updates to BFV and Battlefront 2!!!!!!! Please Dice and EA. You never should’ve given up on those after they had the greatest come back arcs of all time!!
Halo Infinate was a text book example of how to handle a situation like this. They realised the playerbase wasn't overly happy with the state of the game from the trailler, they held it back being open about wanting to make it the game the players deserved and ended up releaseing multiplayer early. It shows that they take the community seriously, it shows that they take their game seriously and are passionate about it and the early release conveys alot of competance from the devs, it's great PR.
I just have one question. Pandemic or not remote work or not server and engine upgrade or not WHY CHANGE THE BF BLUEPRINT OR BF CORE? This game is not BF. I don’t know this BF.
That was laid out very well. Working in IT myself I have experienced different levels of management like we all have. People in upper management may want certain things and the team leaders or core of experts will say no. Those experts left. And thus stupid things were implemented by developers who couldn’t or wouldn’t say no.
I'm really enjoying this game but, they need to take a look in the recoil mechanics and add more maps and weapons. NOW, maps on all-out-warfare game modes, they need a rework, plenty of open spaces. We need more cover and more varierty.
I don't trust anything these people say, first its ahead of schedule, then you have 'massive innovation' (specialists to try and sell skins and a 128 game mode that does not work), and now you have executives saying things like 'it was too ambitious' in a game with fewer maps, guns and game modes than any battlefield game before it. What a goddam joke. Engine innovations my ass
Keep in mind Halo's technical infrastructure when it comes to optimizing gameplay and efficiency. Microsoft done a good job over the years refining their server infrastructure compared to EA, who uses third party servers to play their game. Very big difference.
Bring back the classes, thank you! why somethings as basic as a scoreboard is so complicated? They don't want to hurt feelings? and the maps are too big!
This game would be great if it played like Planetside 2 or Hell Let Loose with Teamspeak integration and Outfit vs. Outfit play. It needs Commander Leadership. Four person squads are too small. Why have an Engineer class with a repair tool when vehicles can repair themselves, etc. Dice gave us the improvement of increased player count and huge maps but neglected everything else we need to play as an organized team. All you can really do is go solo.
Thanks for making this video . Covid started messing up BF from day one , we got blue balls over BF5 . Then you get teased with BF2042 , it want's you to play . clothes come off and she's a TRAP ! " Battlefield IS NOT REALLY A BATTLEFIELD GAME .
Not gonna lie. I feel like no one should've bought this once the specalists were mentioned. Its a shame to think about the game that could've been and how things ended up.
Delivery teams (designers, developers, testers and their respective leads/heads) are given a great deal of autonomy and authority in what and how they do things through agile/self-organisation in delivering minimum viable products. Although guardrails are put in place to keep things focused, outcomes are derived from within these teams. The fact that every excuse was something either outside their control or was not sufficiently customer centric (one of the very pillars of agile delivery) just shows how ineffective these teams were both at delivery and leadership. @Westie, it might be worth understanding current delivery practices as this will give some further insight into this disastrous release.
There completely out of touch with reality. They had one job. Modernise BF3/BF4....release. Job done, money earned, fun had. It's not fucking hard EA! No we didn't want operators, no we didn't want stupid skins. How hard is it to look at what BF4 achieved and just improve on that.
Why do I feel like this same thing happened with Command and Conquer when they made Red Alert 3 and then that one we don't talk about? They tried to ''innovate'' and chase trends and end up killing the franchise
This is happening all over the gaming industry - there just isn't enough time given to the developers by the publishers for products to be released in a mature state. This has just been getting worse and worse over the years until it has finally reached a boiling point where publishers are going to lose money and they actually have to give devs time to address the issues. Note : I am a game dev and my opinions are my own and do not represent any company or product.
If it's any consolation I worked in the visual effects industry and it's the same for many projects. Ask any artist working on Marvel shows. Big does not mean better.
I am a programmer and from all professions we have the least problems in home offices. Some of my colleagues have problems with kids in a small appartement since school often spontanious close and stuff like that, but meetings and infrastructure is not an issue. They didn't want to pay the entire engine development and wanted it to be more like apex and fortnite. And they thought people buy it anyway. Like all the other publishers.
EA and Dice are still failing to realise that the core gameplay is rotten, and they shouldn't have tried chasing trends as hard as they did. I don't understand how one can become so delusional.
Fact. And also if you criticise them for this then you are labelled " Toxic" . Great job Dice/EA. Battlefield is dead.
I think it’s because they forgot that we equate quality over quantity. They need to remember that we are happy to wait for an amazing games
Anthem 2
hit the nail on the head
Exactly. We don't care so much about bugs at release (eventually always fixed) but for gameplay. And new engine, home office and other excuses don't address the fact they changed everything trying to copy other successful franchises (CoD, Apex, etc). They are failing bc of this, not bc of bugs, glitches or performance.
Using the “pandemic” and the launch of Halo as excuses for how awful the design decisions were is absolutely laughable!
COVID deleted the scoreboard and Halo made them remove the class system, duh
@@charc0al_tv lmao!
Plan/demic indeed.
As a dev, working from home has been absolutely perfect. It all sounds like excuses for piss poor performance.
Because they expect players to swallow the pill called "pay to betatest" when launching the game.
They must be some ARROGANT mother fuckers
A moment of silence for the low and mid-level game developers who had little to no say in the creative direction and release of this game, but now have the game’s countless problems resting entirely on their shoulders to fix. I can’t imagine the amount of overtime these poor employees are putting in to make up for the leadership’s poor decision making.
Hoping that none of those guys are being used as scapegoats within the company to save the ass of their higher ups. But it's fucking EA, so who knows
They had great mechanics from other battlefield series. Why did they complicate everything?
Difficulty with the new engine probably
@@relld05 Oh, come on! They were able to shove the stubs of the previous series into the new battlefield and everything worked fine. Does Battlefield 3 look bad on this engine?
@@eltropico8156 Lmao, BF3 is 10 years old and yet it looks, sounds, and feels more realistic than 2042
Money for specialist skins 😉
Yeah they took away crouch sprint, proning on your back, leaning and added shitty mechanics like "tactical" sprint, and that fucking specialist system
Here’s an idea: literally take BF4 and ask “how do we make this better without changing the whole mechanics of the game.”
More weapons, more tools, more skins, more destruction, more maps - variants of CQB and massive scale. Done.
That’s all they needed to do… sigh.
Yup....and take what actually worked in bf5....
Like the leaning, falling backwards/backwards prone, building fortifications.
Fr they could've done this, and if they wanted to monetize it cringey ik but it makes game money add skins and alot more customization for the classes not fucking specialist
I want them to take BF3 and BF4, remaster them and smash them together, call the game Battlefield, and put it out like that.
The CQC DLC maps for BF3 were honestly one on my favorite DLC's DICE ever released for a Battlefield game.
It sounds like they still don’t get why it failed, likely to repeat the same mistakes again.
And blames halo infinite
I think without doubt they'll repeat them again.
Yeah it sounds like they will just double down on all this bullshit in the next entry
Ofc they don’t. They blamed halo and covid. Oh don’t forget a new engine that no one asked them to make.
@@Rob-pi8ww the only good outcome of this is if they will sell battlefield to embark studios where almost all former dice employees are currently.
I don’t have anything nice to say about people who haven’t learned their lesson from pre-ordering
@@foxtrotsierraproductions8626 I mean, I thought the trailer was hype but I wasn’t sold. I probably won’t buy this game. I’m not surprised
I think the issue here was though is that Dice were held to a higher standard than most when it came to game launches or more trusted I should say to release a good product. Much like project red they really have lost the trust of the fanbase and I'm sure that will reflect in their pre order numbers in any future titles.

They should have delayed this game by another year and they know it.

They are looking for external excuses instead of looking at their own shortcomings and faults.
based take
I agree! They are blaming everything they can except themselves
How does the stay at home work hinder their work? They are working on a computer and it’s not like they are doing any labor work?
I think 128 player lobbies can be done but only if the map design compliments it in way that keeps the action and the downtime balanced
Yeah battlebit has servers with 200 players, but that game has brilliant map design and destruction everywhere on the maps so it works well
128 is doable on the right maps.
This pretty much curbs all my hopes for future Battlefield titles to a minimum level. They do not seem to be able to learn.

That’s what happen when you try and reinvent the wheel
I remember a time when Dice was creating trends instead of chasing them! If you're doing your own thing and it's working, don't turn around to do what everyone else is doing just because it is also working!
This whole thing is just sad because I actually see it as a possibility that this is the last battlefield game
😔
It’s not, remember how they mentioned another title that would be developed after 2042?
That was BF1
They need to make a Battlefield Bad Company 3!!!!! BF Bad company 2 was probably the best of the series!
I'm glad I had my time on Battlefield 4.
It’s gut wrenching to see this happen to battefield - and even more so to know that they could have actually prevented all of this easily.
and even more gut wrenching that they keep spewing this shit, saying feedback matters, while simutaneously ignoring feedback while acting like this game is only bad because of bugs and not because it was poorly designed and nobody called out bad design choices because they didn't want to hurt feelings.
Sometimes you have to go back to go forward, personally it's probably the best thing that could happen as now they will go back to the drawing board & find what made the previous titles Battlefield 1-3-4 so good
COD is broken asf, Battlefield is slowly dying. Now what are we supposed to be playing if the good games are not the good games anymore, i dont see a bright future for neither one of the 2
@@TheWESTSIDE1967 it could go either ways... worst case ea will plug battlefield out since its no longer their flagship fps (apex legends now takes that), best case if they go back to the drawing board and do a major restructuring of dice, or maybe sell the franchise to a studio that understands bf maybe
surely they sell DICE and the battlefield IP to some other company, so we can finally get some good games!
I don't think dice can make a comeback and the saddest thing is that I have been playing battlefield forever
Great analogy and so true.
Don’t be sad, this is just how it works out sometimes.
Low key hoping Embark releases a shooter within the next 5 years.
Well said Westie.
If this is a love letter to fans then i just cant see a future for battlefield

These snippets from the town hall, with the exception of a few, sound like excuses. The leadership team needs to own their decisions (not blame circumstances) that they made, say sorry, and fix it with the hope that the community will forgive them. If we don’t than they need to take real stock of who is on the team (leadership all of the way to devs) and not consider the franchise as “dead”.

They could’ve used them like “hero” classes after earning enough points like in battlefront 2 but nope
... thats a retarded statement
They are classes with names, nothing more.
@@americanjohnny4814 Thats still stupid
I’ve said this before but no one listens lol. I don’t know why they couldn’t keep the cosmetic system from BFV, it worked just fine 🤦🏽♂️
@@Msygavyzuwbagyaisjnwvhz it was just an idea dickhead
Such a shame to see the collapse from BF1
Yeah the cod vs battlefield debate was great to see in 2016.
The legendary amount of dislikes IW got compared to the reveal of battlefield one may be battlefield's pinnacle moment, all downhill from there.
And its only because EA/DICE chooses to chase trends instead if setting them.
Ikr??? What the hell? Bf1 was so good I still play it to this day but goddamn bf2042 is complete ass
It was the high water mark
Fuck DICE
We don’t love DICE anymore
After the way they treated customers I hate DICE now. Hate them
@@goatman9499 I don’t blame you
It should not be difficult for a multi-billion dollar company to make a successful Battlefield game... at least you could think.
(1) Listen to your community
(2) Your fanbase wants BF 3 and 4 with BF5 mechanics and BF1 athmosphere
(3) Stop trying to lecture you fan base (the ones who pay you the dollars)
(4) Produce according to market demand and stop producing what YOU think the market SHOULD want.
(5) If gamers want to play Cod or Fortnite then they will buy it
(6) Stop copying and (re)start being innovative and being the industry leader (again) that the others are copying
You are welcome.
This, exactly. If dev work is not fitting for remote work, then no job is. It feel like an excuse to me.
the map sector design is really bizarre,
it would be better as 5 capture flag points like in BF4, with better terrain and map design to make a frontline battle, siege and flank squad team play. like all the old BF games.
It’s pretty much the new normal. Just look at Call of Duty and Halo
If I was an EA play tester, I would have probably reported poor performance and overall blandness but they probably would have responded to the general testers with an excuse that everything complained about is already fixed and/or known about and being worked on, and they are interested in technical performance and not gameplay.
"Speak no evil, see no evil" Typical large company issue.
"New engine" is a out right bs excuse to hide the fact that everyone at the dice team needs to be fired for making the game into cod.
Nah man, more than half the developers are given a tiny fraction to work on, and are not responsible for the macro state of the game and it's direction. There's directors for a reason. Concentrate your anger on them.
You think artists and programmers and ect. have a say in the game direction?
Hop back on bf4. I did and I’m back in love with it. Still unreal.
If they can apply the same recovery method Battlefield 4 had, surely that can turn things around and make the game worth playing!
Battlefield 4 had bones when it came out. 2042s issues can’t be fixed with a few updates because these flawed mechanics are embedded in the game
It’ll take a complete overhaul of the core gameplay to get a good player base back on board
My overriding feeling from this video and the information shared is that Dice/EA have no respect for their customers and valued quick and easy monetisation over customer satisfaction. Yet again ....heads need to roll on this one but they won't.
If they had that many internal delays and quality issues, why release, delay a year and release a game without damaging the franchise! Palm to face.
Yeah, I mean cellphones and the internet exist
All they had to do was improve on BF4. Why take a winning formula and throw it in the trash?
WESTIE has 3 brothers - NORTHIE EASTIE and SOUTHIE
It's really hard, near impossible to see how this game is fixed/makes a comeback. With so many bugs and essentially features that aren't there which should be in a Battlefield game, it would make more sense for EA/DICE to cancel future plans and support for BF2042, go back to the drawing board and actually make a 'Battlefield' game.
Anyone that blames WFH for their problems is making up excuses. In a software role you can do everything remotely...
EA and Dice are no friends or "fam" anymore, they are just business partner, you should remember that for the next titles to buy at day 1.
@@Triiplesiix Im gonna pretend you didn't just call Hardline the worst in the franchise...

EA apparently believe HALO and COVID forced them to make specialists, remove VOIP/scoreboard, and make bad maps LOL

"Battlefield 3, 4, and 1 were some of the most critically acclaimed FPS ever, so let's just completely change everything" - DICE
It failed because we all wanted a proper sequel to battlefield 4, and they put out a futuristic cod clone.
And for now, no easter eggs in the game....for the first time...
It shows that they take the community seriously, it shows that they take their game seriously and are passionate about it and the early release conveys alot of competance from the devs, it's great PR.
if its not broken dont fix it they say. Give us Bf4 feeling, Bf1 graphics and audio, Bf5 movement and here you have a successful game, easy asf
Battlefield is becoming like assassins creed. Being something it is not supposed to be
I just have one question. Pandemic or not remote work or not server and engine upgrade or not
WHY CHANGE THE BF BLUEPRINT OR BF CORE?
IF THE GAMW WASNT READY DONT RELEASE IT!!!
This game would be great if it played like Planetside 2 or Hell Let Loose with Teamspeak integration and
Outfit vs. Outfit play. It needs Commander Leadership. Four person squads are too small.
Why have an Engineer class with a repair tool when vehicles can repair themselves, etc.
Dice gave us the improvement of increased player count and huge maps but neglected
everything else we need to play as an organized team. All you can really do is go solo.
I'm glad I didn't ditch destiny 2 for this.
I was a huge fan of BF4
They fucked up so bad! Give bf2042 a year then it will be ok to play, but then the player count will be gone.
Maybe all the good people left Dice, Westie alluded to it
There completely out of touch with reality. They had one job. Modernise BF3/BF4....release. Job done, money earned, fun had. It's not fucking hard EA!
No we didn't want operators, no we didn't want stupid skins. How hard is it to look at what BF4 achieved and just improve on that.
Everyone just stop spending money on EA
Good vid West 👍
