    I think this guy's greatest feat is his pain tolerance.
    Like dude fed himself through a woodchipper feet first willingly, like can you imagine how much that has to hurt? guy mutilates himself regularly without hesitation but he can still feel it all despite the damage being repaired r him coming back to life.

      I have a headcanon that he suffers from CIPA - a conditon where you cannot feel pain. It's the only reason I can think of as to why he is so willing to cause such horrible bodily harm to himself. Either that, or he's done it so many times his mind desensitized itself to pain as a coping mechanism, but that makes even less sense.

      pain stems from the brain' main function to keep the body alive and well
      remove those limits and couple it with the fact that our bodies are extremely adaptive to our environments, you would eventually stop fearing death not only on an emotional level, but on a physiological too

    I think the fact that Sato is a gamer isn't just a little bit of background noise so he get a little more depth, it's not only explains why he accepts his "infinte lives" gift so easily, but the technics he uses, he's just cheesing the game. It's like the whole Ajin thing is filled with glitches, like "matter in a way of reattaching limb? just remove matter, ez" and he uses that not just like the "Devs" intended it to exist, he's basically using glitches.
    It's honeslty impressive.

    On the decapitation, while scientifically yes it’s impossible for the consciousness of one head to transfer over to another, it’s only ever satos saying this. Sato tells this to kei to scare him, and being the mostly logical persons he is, he believes it cause it just makes sense. But if he were never told this he would have given a second thought to it. Even when Shinya Nakamura was decapitated he didn’t even notice. If an ajin were to be religious, and believe in souls and stuff, they probably won’t even be bothered by the idea of decapitation, they’ll just believe their soul will return to their body. Honestly the whole decapitation thing is interesting, do you believe the strictly scientific explanation, or have a little faith.

    • @themasterbader
      @themasterbader  Рік тому +380

      I honestly took what Sato said as truth at first but after a second thought I still think the consciousness doesn't transfer over. I never really thought of it as a scare tactic, but writing wise it makes a good motivator for kei to resist and fight against Sato. I think one of the Reasons why Kei acted more ethically was because he still valued his identity as a human. Unlike some of the other demi humans that act more ruthless/instinctive and who've had their identity stripped from them from decapitation. The religious Ajin discussion is pretty interesting, I'd like to associate someone religious with being morally ethical (and not needing to use decapitation), but ultimately I really can't imagine any1 retaining a level headed human consciousness after seeing their head separated over and over again, or even dying for that matter. There has to be a point where they turn more nihilistic, right? Idk its a pretty metal concept to think about.

    This reminds me of firepunch it takes similar creative approaches to regeneration but following a different set of mechanics where the regeneration happens while the character is still alive so you have situations where a character cuts off their arm, throws it at someone they're running towards and by the time they arrive they've got a new arm to punch with.

    • @bighex5340
      @bighex5340 11 місяців тому +51

      Also ALSO
      Andy from Undead Unluck has a variation of this with his negation of death, if you haven't read it, he has some super creative ways of weaponising the regeneration of his own body that are whacky, but also make complete sense

    • @bobbyboy900
      @bobbyboy900 11 місяців тому +56

      I wish we would see more action manga written like firepunch and ajin. The feeling I get from reading these manga is that this is how people (at a high/professional level) would fight if our world was like this. Its like the moves they make are believable and make sense in that moment. They are very realistic despite being in a unrealistic setting and adds so much to both the story and the action scenes. it also helps that many of the side characters feel very competent and intelligent like the agents/mercenaries in the buildings in Ajin. These types of action mangas are so damn fun.
      Also I wish more mangas would have gun fight scenes as good as ajin.

    I love dungeon life for that, the MC isn't specially overpowered, he just games the system.
    Characters that are powerful not because of their power but how they use it are extremely interesting imo.

    The thumbnail reminded me of the mother horse eyes narrative, and the monument mythos. Iirc, in mother horse eyes, there is a big zone surrounding the flesh monsters where any living thing that enters it will have the section that entered it essentially disappear. It has been a few years since I read it so I could be off on some details, but you could still feel the missing body part and function just fine. I dont think you bleed, it just goes kind of disappears. The only other downside is that youd feel a constant burning sensation. I think monument mythos had a similar concept, or maybe I'm just thinking of the giant heads.

    maybe. just maybe Sato has a condition where he dont feel pain at all. its some sort of psychological disorder where someone can still feel stimulations like feather against the skin or water running over his skin. but when it comes to pain, they dont feel it at all. it's like their brain refuse to acknowledge the pain as a perception.
    maybe that's why Sato keep saying he wants to feel alive
