I would like to point out that the RGM-79(G) GM Sniper could be equipped with any weapon used by "standard" ground units according to both model kits and the deluxe action figure... While canonically debatable it make logical sense in universe.

Unlike Zeon who wasted a lot of resources creating mobile armor prototypes with mixed results, the Federation emphasized a lot in cost effectiveness and quick mass production, creating a base model with somewhat standardized parts that can be produced by the thousands, and modified for specialized roles
One of the silliest things about UC Gundam is the millions of GM offshoots that were apparently developed and manufactured in the few weeks between the GM's introduction at the Battle of Jaburo and the end of the war, and the fact that not a single one of these were fielded at Solomon or A Baoa Qu. Star Wars has a similar problem with the Empire apparently having countless TIE variants that they never bothered to take to Endor, but the problem is made far worse in Gundam due to the short time-frame involved.
This is the main problem of retroactive additions to canon. Luckily, we only see a small percentage of those battles in the original Gundam shows, leaving room for OVAs and such to stray away from Amuro and crew and show us some of the other happenings with different machines.
I personally believe that as early as the RX-78 became successful, they emmidiately had plans for making variants for it and mass production models as well. But the existence of variants that appear after Jaburo sure are questionable. I guess we can conclude that these MS are results of Federation soldiers making up stories to make them selves sound cool when they tell war stories.

After seeing all these mobile suits in Gundam Battle Operation 2, I really appreciate learning the history behind them. Makes me wish for simulated battles of key parts of the One Year War through the Gryps Conflict.

Eh, 0080 is quite possibly the worst example of GM combat footage. They only get two on-screen kills, one of which is more due to the Zeon pilot's stupidity than the GM's competence, and even their victories are framed as defeats. Episode 2 does feature a kill from a GM Command Space type, but the Zakus score a lot more kills.

Heh ... Staying in cover waiting for the target to appear and count your heart beats befor pulling the trigger but for the GM sniper ... I have to choose between the beam and solid ammo .. Beam is easily tracked and if a zeon pilot found out where I was I would be forced to find another spot but solid ammo is hard to track
Makes me wonder why nobody in the Universal Century ever invested into Railgun or Gauss Weaponry. You get the perks of ballistic weapons, with the advantage of a kinetic force that *will* hurt something no matter the armor, because the shot will either go right through the target, or turn anyone inside the target into Milkshake upon impact. I mean, how do you stop a projectile that goes several times the speed of sound to the point it hits near-instantanously? You can't, that's how. I mean, with Minovsky Space Magic, powering the magnets necessary shouldn't be much of a problem.
You know military snipers in real life do more scouting and reconnaissance and less actual sniping as they are task to prevent their team from dying. This is basically what I heard from military people. The GM Sniper II should be completely black to camouflage better in space as they were used in 0080 pretty much out in the open with their bright blue colors.

I mean the other GM Snipers were green or a mix of mustard yellow and dark green which can be used for camouflage. The Sniper II units were seemingly mostly blue and even the Dingo ones were bright colors.
@@26th_Primarch True but it was an OVA, they had more budget in it. Also it could have been a lighter darker color too like very very dark blue or a dark grey. They could have colored space a little brighter like in the older Gundam series. Also they never sold the GM Sniper II as a model kit or toy before the HGUC GM Sniper II so toy sales isn't really an option at the time for the GM Sniper II and the Alex got one really early as it was a Gundam. The GM Sniper II got it in 2012, years after 0080.

I love it when people try and strain their brains to make sense of these kinds of giant robots. I'm an old school Battletech fan and it gets me every time! Most of any Gundam series happens in space amongst orbiting colonies. It's like the beginnings of a Dyson Sphere (no, the gargantuan sphere in Star Trek TNG doesn't count) at the time of 0079. And Tomino *knew* that giant robots wouldn't work in real life unless they were floating in zero-G. The gravity of Earth, and PHYSICS, makes BattleMechs and Mobile Suits, impossible.
Fun fact unless it has changed the usa military has a standing order of we are interested for battlemechs between 6 and 18 tons ( 5 to 20 for round numbers) puting them more of less in line with votoms and or gears from heavy gear.
Each universe has their reasoning of making them practical. Minovsky particles in UC Gundam making reactors cheap and compact as well as fucking radar up. BattleTech with the new polymer giving mechs basically fake human muscle for mobility, flexibility, strength and being very cheap.

I'm not surprised there are that many of them. Snipers are a different breed. They have to stay even cooler than normal soldiers under fire. Because finding the shot, then taking the shot is an art form.
1:20 Oh hey, the GBO2 version! I was pretty annoyed the HGUC GM Sniper lacked that backpack. it was just the GM Ground painted green and given the rifle from the WD Sniper 2/Ground War Set.
While it was stated that the GM Kai High Mobility Type was said to have been modified to match the GM II, it really didn't. While it was faster and had more powerful thrusters, it's cockpit and generator were first generation. Meaning no 360 panoramic view, and the generator had the same output as the GM Sniper II. It's sensors also didn't compare to the GM II either. This kind of shows that the Titans only said it was a match and never really intended to formally adopt the GM II into their forces because they weren't responsible for it's development, unlike the Gundam Mark II.
I would personally love to see a development history of the MSA-003 Nemo and the other Nemo's that spawned from it as the mobile suit is something of a favorite of mine from the Zeta era.
Hi-Zack Custom is my favourite mass production MS in the game Kidou Senshi Gundam : Giren no Yabou series. Perfect balance of cost, performance and production time.
Outside of a few models here and there, I have seen and/or used most of these GM/G-Line models in GBO2. Just too bad that in general most Sniper units do not go beyond GM models, Zaku I and lastly the Hi-Zack custom. Especially when the Jesta or Geara Doga could make just as good if not better Sniper models.
It's always amusing for me to see iron sights and scopes on these mobile suits. If they had the tech to make a fully articulate anthropomorphic machine, they sure as hell would have invented combat computers that do all the aiming and targeting for the pilot. But hey they still use coincidence range finders in a lot of mecha anime so it's probably just aesthetics.

In the Gundam battle operation 2 game it said that the GM sniper 2 was very difficult to maintain and thus was never able to perform at it's max capacity.
Ironically if Zeon made a Zaku like this and place them in squads they could have easily won a decent number of engagements with Gundams, let alone other mobile suites.
Thanks Kakarot for another informative video. I love Sniper types just as mich as I love Melee based suit and High Mobility types. I wish the next main line gundam has either a kick ass Female MC, a Main Gundam with Sniper Parts option or just a Sniping one or both.
Did you check out his video covering some ReZEL Defensers, The Three Arrows. I mean it isn't like Gundam doesn't have any female pilots but it would be interesting to see maybe a team set up kinda like 00 had. Range, close, etc. Though now this has got me thinking of Kyosuke & Excellen.
I did, but they are in a side story. Yeah there are women in Gundam but honestly, its rare for them to be in the same boat as other male pilots. Of the top of my head, the badass female pilots are Haman, Fram, Katejina, Rondo Mina, Soma Peries for Pilots. Sumeragi, Kati, Murrue for Warship Captains. The rest are either the tragic Psychic Love Interest, The Childhood Friend, the Pacifistic Royal Love Interest. The way they are handled in Seed with a few exception is better left unsaid.

I agree that it would be interesting to see what they'd do with the concept given how most series have an all rounder machine(s) rather than a mixed team like the OG & 00. Yes, Nemo is the simplified version of Simper II. Anaheim wanted to make a GM II competitor, so they reverse engineered the most powerful RGM-79 model and made a mass production model based on it.
I feel like the idea of a sniper mobile suit just isn't a good idea. The main advantage of an MS is it's mobility and CLOSE combat abilities. But a sniper MS is just a fancy way to carry a long range weapon into combat.
GMs are cool. Elite GMs are really cool. Elite GMs with protective sliding visors are supremely cool. Elite GMs with protective sliding visors and improved optics are PERFECTION. Except when Zeon hax happens and ruins everything.
HG GM Guard Custom. I had a little too much trouble trying to pose it holding shield and beam gun normally, so I said "I CAN FLY!!!", put beam daggers on wrists and had it stand on the board...I mean shield.

I wonder what it would look like if the scientists manage to reverse engineer the mobie suit's beam weaponry to reach human size an be used by soldiers and pilots? I learned the existence of the GM Guard in Gundam Battle operation 2 along others MS, btw have you played it? And if so do like the game? Despite being made like a mobile game.
Out of universe I think the use of GM Snipers by the Federation and their extreme effectiveness in the series was influenced by Soviet snipers during WWII. Famously the Soviet snipers were feared by the invading Germans and were one area in which the Soviet Union was far ahead of Nazi Germany. Gundam seems to be similar in that Zeon never really employed sniping mobile suits to a high degree and when they did they were often repurposed obsolete suits with limited success whereas the Federation started using snipers early on and they committed to it heavily by giving their snipers some of the best suits available and even making heavily customized suits. Whenever we see Federation suits fighting the snipers also often stand out as being far more effective than the average GM and they're never just cannon fodder.
Could someone tell me where I can watch the gundam series. I was always a fan playing the PS2 games and watching the expanded universe series that got here to Brazil but the main series never got here. I went out of my way to watch the 08th MS team and loved it but I could only find it because it's an "easy to find" anime. But anything from the main history I can't find beside the ones at Crunchyroll and Netflix.
Hay Kakarot197, which mechs do you think are better, Gundam's Mobile Suits or Code Geass's Knightmare Frames? I've seen a lot of debate on internet forums, but I'd like to hear your opinion. And Mech only, Newtype ability is almost always HAX and Geass user ability doesn't usually factor in mech piloting (with two, maybe three exceptions).

The GM Sniper 2 is one of my favorite MS. The coolest part is probably the visor as Kakarot197 uses one of them as his avatar.

Each universe has their reasoning of making them practical. Minovsky particles in UC Gundam making reactors cheap and compact as well as fucking radar up. BattleTech with the new polymer giving mechs basically fake human muscle for mobility, flexibility, strength and being very cheap.

I love the original GM Sniper. And the gun is badass!
I'm not surprised there are that many of them. Snipers are a different breed. They have to stay even cooler than normal soldiers under fire. Because finding the shot, then taking the shot is an art form.

I was pretty annoyed the HGUC GM Sniper lacked that backpack.
it was just the GM Ground painted green and given the rifle from the WD Sniper 2/Ground War Set.
While it was stated that the GM Kai High Mobility Type was said to have been modified to match the GM II, it really didn't. While it was faster and had more powerful thrusters, it's cockpit and generator were first generation. Meaning no 360 panoramic view, and the generator had the same output as the GM Sniper II. It's sensors also didn't compare to the GM II either. This kind of shows that the Titans only said it was a match and never really intended to formally adopt the GM II into their forces because they weren't responsible for it's development, unlike the Gundam Mark II.

I would personally love to see a development history of the MSA-003 Nemo and the other Nemo's that spawned from it as the mobile suit is something of a favorite of mine from the Zeta era.
Hi-Zack Custom is my favourite mass production MS in the game Kidou Senshi Gundam : Giren no Yabou series. Perfect balance of cost, performance and production time.
Outside of a few models here and there, I have seen and/or used most of these GM/G-Line models in GBO2. Just too bad that in general most Sniper units do not go beyond GM models, Zaku I and lastly the Hi-Zack custom. Especially when the Jesta or Geara Doga could make just as good if not better Sniper models.

It's always amusing for me to see iron sights and scopes on these mobile suits. If they had the tech to make a fully articulate anthropomorphic machine, they sure as hell would have invented combat computers that do all the aiming and targeting for the pilot. But hey they still use coincidence range finders in a lot of mecha anime so it's probably just aesthetics.

Never did understand why they didn't continue to make sniper units they always seem to be super effective I mean even the zaku sniper which was built off a zoku one still super effective in the time of unicorn
In the Gundam battle operation 2 game it said that the GM sniper 2 was very difficult to maintain and thus was never able to perform at it's max capacity.
Ironically if Zeon made a Zaku like this and place them in squads they could have easily won a decent number of engagements with Gundams, let alone other mobile suites.
They should create a GM Commando team with all the sniping abilities.

Thanks Kakarot for another informative video. I love Sniper types just as mich as I love Melee based suit and High Mobility types. I wish the next main line gundam has either a kick ass Female MC, a Main Gundam with Sniper Parts option or just a Sniping one or both.
Did you check out his video covering some ReZEL Defensers, The Three Arrows. I mean it isn't like Gundam doesn't have any female pilots but it would be interesting to see maybe a team set up kinda like 00 had. Range, close, etc. Though now this has got me thinking of Kyosuke & Excellen.
I did, but they are in a side story. Yeah there are women in Gundam but honestly, its rare for them to be in the same boat as other male pilots. Of the top of my head, the badass female pilots are Haman, Fram, Katejina, Rondo Mina, Soma Peries for Pilots. Sumeragi, Kati, Murrue for Warship Captains. The rest are either the tragic Psychic Love Interest, The Childhood Friend, the Pacifistic Royal Love Interest. The way they are handled in Seed with a few exception is better left unsaid.
Yeah I kinda figured you might have, but I figured I'd ask anyway. I agree that it would be interesting to see what they'd do with the concept given how most series have an all rounder machine(s) rather than a mixed team like the OG & 00. Kinda makes me wonder in a way how 00 would have gone if Lyle's older brother Neil had instead been his 'older' twin sister.

Yes, Nemo is the simplified version of Simper II.
Anaheim wanted to make a GM II competitor, so they reverse engineered the most powerful RGM-79 model and made a mass production model based on it.
Not only the backpack, but the entire thruster layout was based from the Sniper II in the development of the Nemo

RX 78 2 and RX 78 3 are more powerful than a GM Sniper 2.
I feel like the idea of a sniper mobile suit just isn't a good idea. The main advantage of an MS is it's mobility and CLOSE combat abilities. But a sniper MS is just a fancy way to carry a long range weapon into combat.

HG GM Guard Custom. I had a little too much trouble trying to pose it holding shield and beam gun normally, so I said "I CAN FLY!!!", put beam daggers on wrists and had it stand on the board...I mean shield.

GM Snipers are weird, especially when they aren't being used as snipers
Out of universe I think the use of GM Snipers by the Federation and their extreme effectiveness in the series was influenced by Soviet snipers during WWII. Famously the Soviet snipers were feared by the invading Germans and were one area in which the Soviet Union was far ahead of Nazi Germany. Gundam seems to be similar in that Zeon never really employed sniping mobile suits to a high degree and when they did they were often repurposed obsolete suits with limited success whereas the Federation started using snipers early on and they committed to it heavily by giving their snipers some of the best suits available and even making heavily customized suits. Whenever we see Federation suits fighting the snipers also often stand out as being far more effective than the average GM and they're never just cannon fodder.

Could someone tell me where I can watch the gundam series. I was always a fan playing the PS2 games and watching the expanded universe series that got here to Brazil but the main series never got here. I went out of my way to watch the 08th MS team and loved it but I could only find it because it's an "easy to find" anime. But anything from the main history I can't find beside the ones at Crunchyroll and Netflix.

And Mech only, Newtype ability is almost always HAX and Geass user ability doesn't usually factor in mech piloting (with two, maybe three exceptions).
