You are right on point, Michael. We learned in school, and from local farmers, back in the 1960's that the seeds would lose their nutrients. And, here we are!!
Absolutely need to keeps saving and sharing - this is why we love seed swaps so much! Love that you put this out there so more and more people can learn and understand the importance. Much love fam, keep sharing the amazing info 😊

Great info! I have not heard all that about hybrids before, I just know I didn't like them for the most part. ;) Dang, heirloom is losing 40% of its nutrients!?😮 Sad. I'm so glad the home steader community is on the rise, and I'm so happy to be a part of yours!😊
Great info and so true my friend. I’m going to finish out what seeds I have this year since the money is spent and then going heirloom. Thanks for always sharing your knowledge Michael and hope y’all have a blessed day and weekend.
Thank you very much Tony, we are doing the same thing here, Corn and Tomatoes are the only thing left we need to replace with heirlooms. Have a blessed weekend my friend
Yes I understand that all to well, we are trying to replace a few fovorite hybrids with heirlooms and its pain-stakingly hard. Thank you so much and have a great week!
I have a few hybrid seeds, like SunGold F1 cherry tomato. But I’m slowly searching out and purchasing heirloom seeds that might be a good replacement. I’d much rather buy heirloom. I’m doing more seed saving these days.
We, too, have a few hybrids we need to replace with a good heirloom. It's easy to become dependent on some of them, especially tomatoes. Thank you so much for the awesome email and comment. Hope you have a great weekend
I’m not sure if you have a video or info on how to collect seeds. A lot of them are no-brainers like tomatoes, peppers, corn, cucumber, beans, potatoes, but how do you collect seeds from cabbage ,lettuce, beats, spinach etc. I have been trying to find a video on it.
You have to let them grow until they bolt. What that means is they have to go past harvest time long enough to develop a flower. Or the bolt. The flower will have your seeds for your brassica. We have some videos for harvesting your own seeds but may be worth a new one to include more thing.
So I live in the northeast I’m not sure that I ever seen cabbage or beats bolt. I hear that some of them are what is called bi-annual, so I might not be able to . But I been trying to figure out if I can.
