Joey there is a tendril a few inches from where the watermelon is attached to the vine. Wait until that tendril is completely dried up and no green is left. That should have you pretty close. That's the best method I know of on watermelon my friend.
Thank You sir. Hope the wildlife miss a few.
My father used to dig our garden with a Farmall H. I think it was a 1949. This video reminded me of me watching him. I don’t think he went quite as fast 😀
I remember him trying to show me how to start it.
Those are always good memories.
I spent a lot of hours with a scoop like that behind our 51 Cub. It was great for clearing sediment out of our little spring fed creek.
Lets get that tractor action going!
Looks good Joey. I've been using a 140 for nearly 50 years and I'm still amazed at the implements IH and other manufacturers made for them as well as the 100 and 130.
It’s slow but it will get it done.
Joey pick you a fox tail stem make it about 8 inches long lay it cross ways on the Melon if it's ripe it will turn long ways with melon and it's ripe.
Hey Joey. Another good video. I do believe I saw another flash of things to come at about 21:36 in the video. Sweet potatoes are looking good. God Bless!
Thanks Greg good eye Will talk about it soon.
Wow, I really like that scoop pan!! Lots of great content! Thank you Joey!! 😁😁
Thanks for sharing the video Joey. Enjoyed it as always. Neat seeing you on the stilts. Sweet potatoes are beautiful. You might want to go on a dig them. As far as watermelon I always let the stem turn brown and on the bottom you can look at the ground spot and you want that yellow. I've seen some that just won't ripen. You can always make watermelon rine pickles out of the rine. Old Farmall is small but it gets the work done. Garden is looking better and I know you are glad to have the dirt back up the hill. Take care.
Thanks Bart. I had got behind on moving it back.
Good advice on the watermelons. This is my 3rd year growing them, I went through the same pains my first year but now selling about 200 a year. I’m kinda jealous of your row of implements for the 140. I have two and a cub but only 1/2 the attachments as you. Enjoyed the video.
Thanks Albert . 200 Melons is a lot for sure.
Yea the curly q right next to the melon will dry out that's when it's ready. Size is relevant to nutrients, and water.
I’m thinking of putting a tomato cage over top of some.
On them water melons there’s a little curly que on the stem when it’s dead and the bottom of the water melon is yellowish then it’s usually ripe
Thank You. Everyone seems to have a good consensus on the curly cue
That scoop pan looks like a great little piece of equipment. Nice to see you working on the erosion 👍
I’ll have to get a little more back after all this heavy rain.
Enjoyed the video. All the best from Greensboro NC.
Great video. Interesting to see how you grow sweet potatoes. We can't grow them outdoors here. Hope the storm isn't too bad for you. All the best 🇬🇧.
Thanks J Peel it’s been good in my part so far. I think it’s not been to bad down in Florida:
I remember using a horse drawn scoop pan hotched to a cub tractor to grade the spot where Daddy his barn/tractor shed. Not too bad, until it hit a large root or rock and jerked the handles, nearly pull your arms out of the sockets.
Youre doing a good job with that pan.
Thanks Lamont it’s slow but gratifying.
Get you a cheap bag of bird seed...mix the avipel in half and leave half clean. Mix it together after the avipel dries and put it around everything. No more birds.
Might just have to do that. Lol
The deer will love you know.
To tell when watermelon ripe there's a qurly cue vine off main stock when it dies and turns brown watermelon is ripe ready to pick
Thanks Kevin.
Another great video with a variety of things to see!
Thanks Paul
Walked on stilts just like that for almost 20 years, those things will wear your ankles and knees. Lol still use mine from time to time.
Luckily I only have to wear them for pre wire.
@@Jtwes yes sir I used to be in the Drywall business before I decided to become a maintenance man at a factory. Y’all have a blessed week.
Watermelon yellow on the bottom and close curl should be dried brown
Thanks Walt. God Bless
What I have found at my farm is The raccoons will eat them before the deer do as the raccoons show up the day the water Mellons are ripe. They can smell a ripe water Mellons from a mile away.
I’m thinking I might go up tomorrow evening and put some tomato cages over some and tie a pie pan to it.
Tindrel needs to be dry and then wait until you get a good yellow spot on the side that is on the dirt.
The tindrel has to be dried out and then wait 2 more days. Size won’t matter
I’ll check for that. Thank You.
@@Jtwes The tindrel right at the top of the melon.
@@MrKeithH1Along with that "Creamy White Belly" . Crimson Sweet, one of the best melons out there, won't be disappointed, good luck
Look at the tendril where the vine grows off of when it turns brown all the way to the main vine the watermelon is ripe God bless
Thanks Roy
I think I’m going to put a few of my tomato cages over a few melons to try to deter the wildlife.
Watermelon is ready when the tails start to die or the bottom yellowing
Exactly ...when the tendril nearest to the fruit turns brown. also, I've heard once they are getting close (two weeks) to not water the plant it will make the melon sweeter. I've harvested many watermelons and never been brave enough to try it.
I hope the wildlife lets one get that far.
@@Jtwes Ive learned my lesson I use a snow fence on my melon and pumpkin crops ..we have a lot of deer in SW Missouri. They get desperate in the summer months when we get into the drought season.
Dig them
Ive never grown sweet potatoe, but it looks like if you dug them up you could get all you would ever need.
I’m rearranging my shed now to make room for a trailer to put them on . I hope to dig them next week.
Plant the round watermelons there sweeter and they mature a lot quicker
I’ve always been more of a fan of cantaloupe than watermelon. Planted a little here this year but they all got burned between the heat and how dry it was.
Those watermelon took a beating.
The mower blade hits that pile of dirt will give a face full of dust....
Luckily it rained on it.
