Hi John, just to say it was nice to meet you and the family at the Stickney event the other week. Also to see the XK8 in the flesh. Keep up the good work. Alan & Liz.
John, it's always great to see how clean and tidy the Jaguar is, right down to the furthest corner. It's a pleasure to see. Not to mention your very interesting explanations about the vehicle. The Jaguar has a very nice color and interior. Had an X300 Sport in the same colors until 4 years ago, unfortunately it fell victim to rust. Now I have an X308 SC Sport that I really enjoy. Many of your explanations and tips also help me with my Jaguar, thank you for that.
We camped at Holkham Hall start of the summer hols. Loads of X100 and X150 parked out the front! Sadly I was so late by the time I got there I saw 2! Lol. Ne’er mind. My eldest said yeh, been there all day Dad 😂
Hi John - love the new addition to the family, she's a wee cutey, they make your heart melt don't they! I had a thought about the bonnet release and after spotting your trim release tool shown at time mark 6:27 sitting in the water drain, it looks as though that tool could possibly be used to poke through that wheel well hole on the other side and up to the cable, I reckon it's almost perfect for the job (but I'm just guessing of course!) a pushing up motion looks as though it would work to release the latch too. The v-cutout would maybe even help get a good purchase on the cable. I still own my 2004 XKR by the way - remember my striped bonnet? I have removed those vinyl additions. I also recently serviced my trans at a mates workshop...what a task with some bolts that were so awkwardly tight, replaced some seals between the body and the mechatronic unit, and no more nasty clunk 2 to 1 premature downshift and also no more squawk around 4th gear. I have owned this car for 5yrs now and it's had those trans issues all that time - yes, all that time! I thought the trans was on it's way out to be honest, I just drove very very carefully LOL, well unless a 'spirited' burst was in order. It's funny, my driving behaviour and the associated 'muscle memory' around the trans problem has become so ingrained that I still drive very carefully expecting the harsh clunk when I slow for Give Way signs/roundabouts, etc. I don't have many photos of the car really otherwise I may have entered your calendar competition. I'm a photographer by trade too lol. I do real estate stuff generally. Anyway, I wish you all the best from Kiwiland - sorry your women's footballers lost to Spain in the World Cup last week. I was backing England - I mean my Dad is English so I had to right? To be fair the Spaniards played a much better game and I think deserved the win. I have always wanted to visit 'the homeland' - Basingstoke is where my Dad's from. Keep those fantastic secrets coming - you have been a godsend to many John. Cheers for now.
Hi Trevor. 🤔 yes i think you might be able to use that tool. I need to do an experiment. Thanks for the idea. Glad to hear the 'box' (trans) is back to full performance. Yes. The Lionesses deserved to reach the final but Spain did deserve to win it. England is very proud of them all the same. Stay safe my friend
thanks for showing us this back door... sometimes, I really think somebody (or rather the project team) gave this car a lot of thought. esp compared to modern cars!
Already have. Mine was sticking on one side. My fix was adjusting the catch bar/striker bar on the hood (bonnet) itself. Moved it down towards the front of the car very slightly and job done. Both of the bars are adjustable within a small range.
That is very clever John. Thanks for posting. I've been trying on another forum to help someone with the identical problem on an X150 which has the extra complication that the release lever cable apparently only goes to one latch and a second cable goes across to the second. Unfortunately, it seems that cutting the bonnet open and then welding it back together or buying another bonnet are the only possibilities so perhaps a failure mode analysis was not performed on the X150? Richard
Hi John. A superb video. Although I hadn't worried about this problem until now😂 Will look forward to the tool making video for sure. Was really hoping to meet up at Gaydon but unfortunately I have a family commitment that day which I can't miss if I wish to stay married! P.s. love your new recruit 👍
Great video. I suspect I have a broken cable on the drivers side. Did the video on how to make the tool to help unlock the latch ever get made? If so a link would be much appreciated. Thanks
Hi Peter Not as standard. Various after market mods and hacks have been offered over the years to enable it though. I believe if you serch the interweb for 'the Jag Wrangler' you will find a gent offering an easy to attach module enabling just that via an extra button sited under the centre armrest. The scenario jaguar was trying to avoid at all costs was roof down Rear window up Front window down. a) to stop kids poking their eyes out on the rear window triangle when getting in the back. b) Anyone pulling on it while getting out of the back and shattering the glass as it bent.
It would depend upon where the cable had failed. The usual point would be at the latch hook so there wouldn't be any cable still attached to the latch.
Every video you do is a school day John. Thanks for all your work. Steve.
Wow, thanks Steve👍
Thanks for that John. Grace is a great looking dog. Like many I’m sure, not heard of the breed. Hope she brings you much happiness
Morning John, thanks for showing the video, the secret of the opening. And welcome Grace. Greetings from me.🎉

Thanks Alan. My kind of show. nice and relaxed.
Gracie is adorable! Looking forward to seeing more of her on the show. And, great tip for opening the bonnet. Hope I never have to use it!

Hi Herbert. I always feel that the X308 and X100 are very close relations.
Well done, that man! Excellent anxiety reducer!
No problem

Will sleep a little better tonight thanks John
Thanks Bernard
We are all going out and lubricating bonnet locks and cables

Good point! It occurred to me too.
I should certainly be sponsored by WD40. 😉

Welcome Gracie. She's gorgeous.
Gracie says thank you kind sir😉
Great vid John. Quick question can you have the roof down, and have both front and back windows up? if so HOW
Hi Peter

@@ToTheGarage thanks Jon always the best place to come for the info
Could you use needle nose pliers to grab the cable?
It would depend upon where the cable had failed. The usual point would be at the latch hook so there wouldn't be any cable still attached to the latch.
none that i have ar thin enough whilst long enough and cranked.
Mine opens while I'm driving have you ever experienced that ?
Never On a Jag🤔 Shouldnt really happen with a reverse hinged bonnet and two seperate bonnet latches.
