This put a big smile on my face, spraying the stone chip on means that all the welding is done and you're onto the next stage. Its looking really good and smart now, well done mate 👍🏻
Graeme W I definitely did the same for me as well. It was a big step forward. Just can’t wait to see the little car sat back down on the floor on all four wheels 👍
@@SimpsonsClassics I can't wait either, to see the car painted and on its rostyles will be great. To have done it for around £1000 in parts is amazing and you should be so proud. I have totted up the hours at a reasonable rate......GULP!! 😂 It's a valuable little car and worth every penny. Stay safe mate
Graeme W yeah I can’t wait to see it sat on the wheels I will feel that I have reached a big milestone for sure. Yeah I did the same the other day with the hours it’s mad how much you can save just having a go yourself. Stay safe Graeme 👍
@@SimpsonsClassics Yeah as you might be aware I was in restoration as an apprentice on mainly MGA's and the main chunk of the restoration costs were labour charges. If I remember right back in late 80's, a resto on an MGA was £20k and labour costs were way over £12k!!
Graeme W Yeah when you work out the costs of labour it can soon scare people and then they get rid of their classic cars this is why I wanted to do this series to prove you can save thousands doing it yourself 👍
Simpson's Classics well I painted mine on its side and didn’t get a decent finish so yeah fair play to you! If you’ve found how to get the overspray off let me know 👌🏻
Hi mate I’m looking at doing this on my escort what did you do with the axle stands did you find a spot that didn’t need painting or did then bits gets missed out and touched up later 🤷♂️
Nice. Thanks for showing that. What’s the bit of box section on the tunnel just in front of the back seat support Marc? We don’t have them on our minis.
I sanded the underside of the car with 80 grit paper. Addressed any surface rust, the etch primed the metal. Then put the stone chip on. After this I used a scotch pad to flat that back then put top coat on. Hope this helps 👍
Nice. Bought 6 bottles of the gray stuff for an mx5 that's getting some rust fixes. What are your thoughts on spraying suspension arms/brackets/arbs with it, once rust treated?
If you have caught our 89 project series, we do use one on that car, however being a hand made one it really didn't go to plan and caused more issues, this being said we do plan to get another one for that car. So stay tuned, the reason we didn't use one for this project as we wanted to prove it can be done on your driveway without to many specialist tools.
@@SimpsonsClassics Ideal, I started to think I'd made a mistake buying one 🤣 I'll be sure to stay tuned. I've got a TV in my garage and I binge watch your videos whilst working. I'm learning a lot!
Bittersweet having to cover up all the hard work you put in to make the shell solid, but great to see the car moving another step closer to being in colour. Just wondering what size compressor you are using to apply the stonechip?
Thanks buddy it was a good feeling to hit this point. I have a 50ltr compressor it’s a great little thing doesn’t take much to get the stone chip on with the correct gun etc 👍
@@SimpsonsClassics perfect thank you for your help, some people say use at 40-70psi so i wanted to check haha! what psi and litre is your compressor? my mate has a 50L one and I've been looking at 25L ones on ebay. will be either borrowing his or buying one myself... would a 25 or 50L do it? the 25L ones on ebay claim 150 psi...

Nice job total protection all you can do, attention to detail always pays off
Thanks buddy definitely got to do all you can at this stage.
that came out really well! makes me want to re-do mine! im sure having it on the inside might help with the sound deadening too.
Thanks buddy, it was a pain in the ass laying down to do it but it’s done now. 👍

Great video review thanks, I've just purchased six cans and the gun to do my VW T4 underside
Thanks buddy. It’s a great product it really is.
Great job Marc, I used it on the pickup great stuff, it won't be long before she's finished 👍👍
Tony Aylott thanks Tony, yeah I am happy with the results, I look forward to seeing the pickup done it will be ace 👍
Looks amazing can't wait for the colour to go on
Thanks buddy we can’t wait either. Once she has down on all four wheels it will be epic 👍
I have a bottle of this but have no use for it, any ideas what I could spray it on for kicks?
I guess anything??
Nice one, looks like you got decent coverage with it. Just got some bottles of it delivered, started sealing the seams and will get to it shortly👍
Thanks buddy that’s awesome I hope yours comes out well to I am very pleased with the finish. 👍
Another fantastic video! Looks great, will definitely be doing the same to Betty!
Owen Cook thanks buddy I am chuffed with the results. It’s a nice layer of protection for sure 👍
Sweet! Will be using that for my project. Cheers. 👍
It’s a great product 👍
Can stone chip paint be used on plastic wheel archs so it allows the red brake calipers to show more
Yes I believe stone chip paint can be used on plastics 👍
hi how did this hold up after 4 years? seeing vidoes of it holding rust..but not sure if they used upol gravitex itself
Hi it’s held up fine. The key is good prep and you should be fine. This is a great product and have used it for years on multiple cars
@@SimpsonsClassics thanks for this reply! I am doing full resto on my 1994 R33 GTST. I am keeping it for a long time. Didnt want it to rust
All the best with your project that sounds like a great one!
Just seeing this After finding more bits of welding for mine carnt wait to do this to mine looks like it’s not gonna step back a step 😂👍👍👍
Hey man I am sure you will get there it’s definitely a nice milestone to know the floors are painted up and you can move forward. 👍
Would the Gravi Tex hold up on the underside of a lawn mower deck running in sand?
Haven’t a clue….
@@SimpsonsClassics Thanks for your response! Many never do.
Nice work Marc looks really good
Thanks buddy 👍

Hi mate yeah so off camera once paint had dried I moved the stands and did those areas. When it came to the colour I just touched this in after.
@@SimpsonsClassics ok I assumed you would’ve done something like that cheers 👍 I will be doing that 😃

Pat Adamson thanks Pat for watching, that little bit of box section is where an ash tray locates. It’s very 80’s lol 😂
Simpson's Classics oh of course! I guess the ones in the bins went by the way when retracting seatbelts went in there?
Would this act as sound deadening too? Or is it not thick enough
Yes this is another reason I used it on the inside
@@SimpsonsClassics good video mate
Nice job ..what PSI did you use I want to get it on nice and thick as I can..
Thanks Steve, I believe it was about 70-80 psi
Could i use the on my vans bodywork i was getting the white gravitex thanks
I guess you can use it anywhere but never tried it on exterior panels. People would suggest raptor over this for exterior panels.
Exciting times👍😁
It's such a messy job, I am still finding Gravitex all over my workshop LOL
Haha yeah tell me about it mate it’s bloody everywhere 😂
Hey how many bottles for the underside. Do you think 3 will cut it?
Hey I think you could just do it with 3 but I would have the forth there just in case 👍
Good gravitex helps a great deal
Vintage Hunter Builds yeah it’s great stuff it really is 👍
mile stone! good job boss!
Thanks buddy 👍
What sort of prep did you have to do before spraying the gravi tex and also what prep do you need to do to paint over it 2k

Which better u-pol or 3m?
Don’t know haven’t used 3m always stuck with upol 👍
Nice. Bought 6 bottles of the gray stuff for an mx5 that's getting some rust fixes. What are your thoughts on spraying suspension arms/brackets/arbs with it, once rust treated?
Thanks. I think it’s a decent idea I have seen people paint subframes etc with it. It’s all about a layer of protection I guess 👍
How many coats did you put on it?
2 coats buddy
Absolutely love this Marc. Is that what they call a Shultz gun?
Thanks Reg, yes thats the one :)

why put stone chip on the inside of the car,? just use the correct product.
Because it’s hard wearing, better protection and has sound proofing properties. There is no right or wrong product. Thanks for watching.
