  • It's now time for a new start and new location.
I think with all the rubbish and young people using the woodland and leaving tents and rubbish behind as built up to this happening.
I can apply to the new land owner for permission to continue using this small woodland but with the school planning on turning woodland into a kid friendly place it's for the best for me to just move on and find new camping location.

Just a little suggestion, you might be able to wirk with the school in order to teach about bushcrafting , camping , and outdoors activities related to what we love. You could really bring a positive change to some of those children's lives and help to continue the bushcrafting way .😊

Hey Dan mate, I thought it's worth mentioning that when people do get permissions form landowners/farmers to use their woods etc, it's good practice every Christmas to give a card and a couple of bottles of something as a thank you. Also report any changes/damage you might find on your visits.

If this helps to bring a new generation to understand nature and the need to look after woodland then it will be a good thing in the end. I too am fed up with seeing areas of woodland trashed by campers who neither know nor care for the essential principles of bushcraft. It is precisely through being encouraged when I was at primary school that I have come to where I am today in appreciating the outdoors looking after woodland.

The school's don't give a shit to learn kids about nature and survival, look at them in Covid. The job is to get more kids into system, which means debt, cashless and glued to a computer or some other technology. School is where the system all starts. I guarantee the person who does have the jurisdiction with the woodland will just make it red tape, health and safety obsessed and not have any real interest in it maybe other than lip service to the local news paper or governors and the facade

There is some woodland near me that I have used. I asked permission from the owner and he was fine with me using it now and again. I used to drop a note through his post box, at the head of his drive, to say I was there. Fast forward to one weekend where there had been about 15-20 young people who descended on it and basically used it as a tip! Broken bottles, tents, plastic bottles and beer cans and bottles, all left. So now no one can go there. I think it's partly education of the young people that THIS is their environment. It's not the Amazon, it's not the Polar Bears on ice fields. It's local woods and fields they need to care for. I have tried when I meet them, but there really is no interest. It's good the local school where you are is gaining the resource, but everyone else loses out. Onwards to the next place though. Thank you for your content and work to bring it to the screen. Much appreciated.

sad to hear that the woodland has been took over, but at least it wont be torn down and houses put on it, and the school is going to make use of it, for wild life adventures etc. Nice for you to do the trail cameras for the school, as that will be interesting for the children. They will get the chance to see who lives there and what goes on during day and night. As a few people mentioned before, you could teach a few children with their parents on how to camp and leave no trace, You will be a great teacher at that. Teach the golden rule of no trace. Also a nice new area is always a change too, more adventures, maybe you could find a woodland with a lake or a river of some sort, and you can try out a few water bottle filters. Keep at it my friend and i will see you in another camp video,😃

Another education lesson / lessons / project for the kids of the use of camping gear / basic set ups and you still get the access you need. the problem I see with the trial cams is that if the wood is fenced, you'll not have a lot of access for the animals so the continue to use them, but show how the change in use is also effecting the wildlife's use of the wood. I suspect you'll see a marked decline in the bigger animals and maybe a total loss of them. That is not good for the woodland or the school.

Sounds like as one door closes another opens to me, it is sad to see the opportunity to camp there end (maybe temporary) but to aid in the education of the children is a potentially huge opportunity!

Dan, why don’t you approach the school volunteering to be a “woodland supervisor’. Part of the role of looking after the woodland would be checking all is ok and reporting back to the school if anything needs to be made safe for the kids(dangerous trees, holes in the fence, etc) if they were happy for you to do this you would have access any time you want. Camping out in the wood would be part of the role to make sure trespassers don’t get in. The school might even pay for some more trail cameras you could use as cctv to monitor the wood. Only a thought but it might work. All they need to do to establish that you are a responsible woodsman is view you videos as you always promote best practice. Leave no trace etc.

Too much responsibility for no gain. Parents blaming Dan if he misses something one of the kids gets injured on ect. Nightmare.

Why don't you offer the school your services. A bit of simple bushcraft simple cooking and show the kids how to have a fire safely and ethically. You have a lot to offer kids kids like kindness and you have acres of it !!!

Will there be wild life (wild animals with 4 legs) if they fence it off? There again, don't really know how big the wood land is. Large enough gaps for foxes etc

Ask the school if they'd plan a summer camp out for the kids and you could show them what it's all about
