Some Quick Artificial Intelligence Thoughts: Aren't We Trained like AI?

The talk around #AI in a few of the conversations I’ve had with creators are these platforms being “trained” on their artwork. I must beg the question, isn’t that what art schools provide artists? Aren’t we using and trining ourselves on art history to produce new work? How would we have gotten as far as we have without this prior training?
I get it that many people are concerned with copyright but sampling of work has been around for as long as creation, especially in music. In Art, there have been plenty of artist who’ve explored the appropriation side of art as experiment and I see this part of AI being that same catalyst. But of course, I’d love your thoughts? How do you feel?
