How Far Can You Go On One EMTB Battery ? | ROCKY MOUNTAIN ALTITUDE POWERPLAY DYNAME 4.0 RANGE TEST !
Riders this was a very long day in the saddle, I hope you liked my Extreme range test on the Rocky Mountain altitude powerplay with the Dyname 4.0 motor from Rocky Mountain. It is RANGE Monster but maybe not for all the mountain bikers out there. Let me know in the comments if this motor is for you and if not what is your favourite Ebike motor.

Legend Riders i have just gone through the comments and some of you are saying I didn't have it in the highest assistance, I went into the Rocky Mountain display on the bike and upped all the settings before the test but maybe I got something wrong not sure. All I can say its a range monster but I had to work hard.

Did you go through the settings and adjust any of the parameters? I guess it depends what you're looking for. I have a 2022 RM Instinct and personally I want the little bit more effort required. To help maintain fitness. Yesterdays ride was 32km only 675m climbing but all single track except maybe 1 km of road. I came home with 18% left in the bank and averaged 12km speed, If you're somewhat fit the rocky is a fantastic bike I really like being able to to any power adjustments on the jumbotron and not having to use my phone there are 3 different tunes you can pick from 2 are custom 1 is factory default. You can set the amount of boost to determine how much assist you get. I like to scale it back to-2 to avoid wheel spin as I do a lot of technical climbing. One problem I did have was I couldn't buy my bike locally as the dealer had none so be aware if it's not from you're local dealer you will have to pay the labor on any warranty repairs which I find total BS on a 9000.00 bike. But that aside I would buy another one in a heartbeat

If you want more of the Bosch / Shimano like assistance, then you have to up the Boost level setting to +2. I find that in that support mode i do not get more tired than my old E8000.

@@SamsBikes You have to go in the Display to the Tune settings. You know, where you can select Factory / Tune A / Tune B. For Tune A & B you can adjust the Boost setting. If you set one of those tunes to +2 "Super Boost" and then make sure that that tune is also activated(!), it will give you way more support. +2 comes closest to Shimano and Bosch feeling.

    So doing the Maths Sam.
The Bosch did 1431metres with a heart rate of 125bpm.
If you take the 1431 metres and devide it by the heart rate 125 and then multiply it by 149 your heart rate on the rocky mountain you get 1705. So I'm guessing the difference between what went in and what came out in terms of metres climbed is actually pretty close on all the motors..... Except the EP8 😂😂

The motor alone doesn't make a bike fast up or down the hill. The bike and the way it's set up for the rider makes a big difference as well. @SamsBikes love your review, but you really need to be measuring YOUR power input - something independent like some power-meter pedals.
This way the stats can be consistent between bikes and transferable to other riders expected experience.
HR as a 'gauge' of effort really only applies to you and for relativity, but can fluctuate a fair bit even between a hot / cold days let alone after a session on the VB's LOL
Spinning at a high cadence doesn't necessarily require more 'effort' (or strength) but does require good cardio fitness Vs a slow(er) cadence that doesn't demand as much cardio fitness.
You'll see the 'roadies' referring to 'Spinners' Vs 'Grinders' and maybe the Dyname4.0 is more of a 'Spinners' Motor for those that go straight to the 51t at first sight of an incline??

@@SamsBikes 100% know what you mean - and some form of review is way better than none 😉and yours are way better than that, so keep up the good work.
Garmin do the Rally Pedals that talk to your head-unit, can just go single sided even.
That way you can do all your tests at a 'capped' input effort (ie. 150w) and the output is the vert-gained / distance travelled by the motor/battery, human variable removed. Can see from the comments other peeps claiming 1700m vert on their Levo, but guarantee (relatively speaking) they were pumping in plenty of personal-watts to achieve that...

On the Jumbotron display using the handlebar buttons you can select power settings and from there select Boost…. There are 5 different levels (-2 thru +2)
The stock factory setting is 0… but you can change it using the handlebar controller.
From my understanding the increased boost level allows the power to be accessed with less pressure on the pedals. I just recently changed my setting two +2 which definitely lessened my workload.
I also am lucky to have done a comparison with a gen 3 and other motors and you’ll never get the Rocky to have “run on” like all the others but it will definitely make a difference.

Hey super solid test my friend.
Checking in from British Columbia, Canada. I'm hoping you can help me with some further intel.
As noted in numerous comments below, there are different boost levels available in each power/trip settings. Were you running neutral/factory setting most of the day? I ask because my C90 2022 is constantly overheating and showing these prompts almost every time I head out on a big ride. The fact that you were able to pound that bike in Ludicrous mode until the battery wore out without overheating is frustrating. This makes me wonder if I need to constantly be in a neutral boost setting or even possibly in the negatives. If so, this would be a terrible move by Rocky on the new motor and would also explain why you were working your ass off on the test. I spent a lot of money on my bike and this issue of overheating is having a brutal effect on my ride experience. I am a return customer after riding a 2019 with the old Dyname 3.0. That motor was a horse and never limited my climbs due to temperatures although it did need replacing at around 2500 kms.
Any thoughts from yourself or commenters would be really appreciated. Thanks

It is very simple, the RM multiply the rider’s torque by less than the other brand, but it top at a higher torque (108 vs 90)
For example (not necessarily the good number) All other give a 4x multiplier, which mean you only have to put 30nm for the motor to give 90 nm, for a total of about 120nm combine (4x the rider input). Anymore effort from the rider won’t make a difference on the motor output.
The RM the multiplier is less, for example 3x, so the same 30nm rider input will get 60nm from the motor for a total of 90nm. So for the same effort, you get less. You need to put 40nm to get 80nm from motor, thus making it 120nm total.
But you can also put 54nm getting 108nm, total 162nm. Now you’re faster than the other bike!
It is also why you get more range, because you have to put more effort for the same total output, which is showed by his higher heartrate.
