Great reaction. I was hoping that you'd get to this. The video and song are about how important it is for the band members to stick together. How they help each other and that without one of them the band would fall apart. In the video they are all fighting because they each suspect that the others have killed Till, may be guilty themselves and because they fall apart without their frontman. The clips from each video are edited to show most members killing Till so in the original Ohne Dich video it was an accident but here you see Richard cutting his rope. Oli pulls his air tube out in an edit of the Amerika video. Flake a la Keine Lust feeds him to death, and you're right that is a reference to the scene in Se7en.. Paul's guilty secret though is that he wanted to be spanked by Till as he was by Snow White in Sonne.
The lines "Der Haifisch der hat Traenen" (The Shark has tears etc) is an allusion to Berthold Brechts "Moritaet von Macky Messer" (Ballad of Mack the Knife) from "Dreigroschenoper" (The Threepenny Opera):
Und der Haifisch, der hat Zähne,
Und die trägt er im Gesicht.
Und Macheath, der hat ein Messer,
Doch das Messer sieht man nicht.
And the shark, it has teeth,
And it wears them in the face.
And Macheath, he has a knife,
But the knife can't be seen.
So instead of Zähne (teeth), Rammstein sings Träne (tears). And the rest of the chorus is different of course.
There is an english translation of this song (Mack the Knife) and I remember a version of this is sung by Robbie Williams.
Not exactly important but a little known fun fact is that the little boy at the funeral scenes is Till's Grandson, Fritz.
These translations always want to make me scream at the screen: THAT IS NOT WHAT THE LYRICS SAY!
I was about to start a little rant but yeah. Some of those translations suck.
The problem is, that Rammstein tends to write their songs in a very lyric and poetic way, so most of the mental images really only work in german, since in english you would phrase it completely different. These translations are mostly very literal, so none of them make any sense.
just to add to what everyone had said this band would not exist without out each member. They have said in interviews if one leaves that is the end of Rammstein no replacements. They have known each other for over thirty years and everything in the band is equal. Till writes the lyrics but he made sure every member was put down as song writer to there would be complete equality money wise as well. This video is also about the struggles they have, they have said that they have nearly come to blows in the studio and came really close to splitting around the Mutter era. They have wanted to kill each other at times but they got over it. Most of them are much more mellow than they used to be and the side projects have helped as well. They have also gone to marriage counselling just to keep things healthy and work through issues.
Nice Job. The Video is a Reminiscence to older Vids yes. And in over 30 years together you want to kill the other one, as in many a marriage. Not all sun shinning.

A song about friendship, banal and simple. But the clip does the opposite, showing the disunity of the remaining five from Rammstein. Everyone assumes who killed Till and at the end they fight, showing a complete lack of friendship. But Till fucked everyone up by being on the Islands, not in a coffin.

Great song and great reaction! I also love the fact that you try to understand the meaning of each individual song, which can be difficult at times due to the language barrier. A lot can be lost in translation. Especially on the longer chorus part, where it's translated to: "And so it happens that the water in the oceans is salty". I think what Till is getting at here is that ocean water is salty due to the fact that sharks swim around in the ocean, crying. At least that's my take on it.
And a little fun fact: The first part of the chorus is inspired by a song called "Die Moritat von Mackie Messer", The Ballad of Mack the Knife, from 1928. In that song it goes:

Und die trägt er im Gesicht.
Und Macheath, der hat ein Messer,
Doch das Messer sieht man nicht.

Interesingly, the song itself is also a hommage to the classic German song "Mackie Messer" ("Mackie Knife"), which starts off with: "And the shark, it has tears and it has them on it's face, but Mackie has a knife, and it is invisible."
The original shark literally wears it's weapons on it's face, so it personifies being upfront, but the German words for "teeth" and "tears" rhyme, so, with them switched, the shark becomes this lonely soul.
In your reaction where they are climbing the mountain.. that's from "Ohne Dich" you mentioned where he had to get a rose? I think you got confused with "Rosenrot" ♥️🙂
They are wondering who killed Till. In interviews, Till is often referred to as a peacemaker of sorts. He doesn't ruffle feathers, he listens to everyone and he'll do whatever he needs to keep everyone happy. I think this was a little bit of them saying "yeah, we know what you mean to us".
I love hearing that! Till seems like such a humble guy. We all know vocalists tend to be pre modonas. The relationship of this band always amazes me. Thanks for sharing!

I love that they thought about replacing Till with James Hetfield. Also Marilyn Manson in the back at 3:40. When Till pulls out the Moustache it has to be a good music video. A song about just loving your friends and your fans. And you did get every reference Jim! Thank you for the video Jim.
During the fight, Ollie and Doom weren't even trying, Flake looked so lost, but Richard and Paul really got into it.
Must be channeling all that Mutter aggression or something.

amazing reaction!this is one of my fav videos from them and yes i does refrence some of the old videos (Du hast, Ohne Dich, Amerika, Keine Lust and Sonne)Also supposedly the reason till had a stache was to reference Joseph Fritzel who was talked about in their song Weiner Blut

You talked about the animosity. Richard and Till fought a lot with the other members and all most broke up the band during the Mutter days.

The song is about the tensions between the band members. They had a big fight and almost split up but they managed to work it out. The song is supposed to show that the band needs every single member otherwise Rammstein will break apart. The biggest fight was between the guitarist Paul and Richard you can also see that in the video. 8:45

Rammstein is the shark.
The shark is a reference to the song "mack the knife". Comparing the Rammsteins lyrics to the german orignal lyrics of Mack the Knife makes that a bit more obvious. Mackie Messer: "Und der Haifisch, der hat Zähne Und die trägt er im Gesicht", Rammstein: "Und der Haifisch der hat Tränen Und die laufen vom Gesicht". Mackie Messer: "Und Macheath, der hat ein Messer Doch das Messer sieht man nicht.", Rammstein: "Doch der Haifisch lebt im Wasser So die Tränen sieht man nicht"

I like your honesty in your reactions. Haifisch by Rammstein is a great song, but honestly? As always, the live-version is a *whole* new level (you knew that already). But maybe you should react to it anyway, it'll surprise you, even though you've been through a lot of Rammstein over the time.
Edit: Try the 2010 Rock am Ring version, it's the best live-haifisch ever afaik.
In the videoclip they are suspectnig one and other because of who killed till. You can see in the other videoclips you can always see other band member killing till. This eventuelly leads up to them fighting.
That video is awsome but live is a super super Show when flake rides his boat all over the crowd. One Thing you have to know is that you can bearley ever relate a official Video to a Song . Sonne ,mein Teil etc never close to the meaning of the lyrics . As always good job sir .
This song is about Rammstein and the fans. Rammstein stick together, do what they want. The fans are the sharks who “shed a tear” that no one notices when, for instance, we heard the band nearly broke up. “Six hearts that burn, the fire keeps you warm” is obviously the band making the fans happy.

The video is about somebody killing Till. And all the band members are suspicious of each other, thinking the other members did it. So they show clips of past videos, in which they link each member in a past video killing Till. And at the end, they all figure out they have been fooled by Till, and that he’s still alive. And, he’s been hunting the shark of loneliness. An emotion they all killed by all sticking together over the years as they are one of the only bands that after all this time still have the original line up.
Very abstract, but intriguing.
