  • If this mosquito trap is as effective as this video suggests then it is a pretty clever and useful invention.

I created my own trap using old computer fans, PVC pipes, a black light bulb and a sweaty, urine drenched sock. I made several of them for my parents house, which is a 5 acre lot filled with water pockets, a canal and lake. I estimate that in one week I caught over 1 billion mosquitoes.

In other words, the mosquito trap simply kills mosquitoes by doing cosplay as a hot, sweaty, moving animal.
And people say cosplay is a waste of time as that is how a mosquito trap does it magic and beat those bugs at their own game

I bought one of these at a garage sale for $30.
I wasn't sure if is just out the 30 bucks or if they worked.
They work. Mine uses very little propane. It'll actually run over 15 minutes off what's in the hose after I close the valve on the bottle.
What I'm interested in finding out, is how does it make the fan run?
The only electricity going to it is a AA battery for the starter.
But, after it runs a couple of minutes, you can hear the fan ruining and watch it suck mosquitos in.
The ones that get sucked in get dry roasted in the screen basket.
After a night of running, the basket will almost be overflowing...
Easily enough dried mosquitos to fill a cigarette pack in less then 24 hours.
That fan is still a mystery to me after watching this video though.

      > "how does it make the fan run?"
The energy source is the propane.

    • @SouthParkCycle
      @SouthParkCycle 4 роки тому

@@rogernevez5187 yeah, but what makes the blades spin? A turbine? A cell that makes electricity when it gets cooked? As little propane as it uses there's no way its from the volume of propane coming through the hose.

The screens on the bug zappers are either too big or to far apart to actually kill mosquitoes effectively. I have a 20 inch box fan set outside with a bag made from mosquito netting and it actually catches more mosquitoes than my mosquito-magnet does.

It needs a black light. Or uv b and instead of a glue trap it needs an electrified zapper. My papaw when he was alive had a plastic cage he would put a hairless cat inside, he named it skinny cat.. but when he would have people over or sit outside he would put the cat inside that plastic cage and the cage right by a big ass fan with fine mesh on one side.. by the end of the night that fan would be full of mosquitoes.. never used any tiki torches or anything.. genius.. the cat didnt feel left out or bad for being in the cage and it was big enough he could walk around a bit but the thing was massively overweight.. smelled like an armpit.. all the time.. which i think helped with the mosquitoes..

Hmmmmm, I wonder if we could turn those piles of dead mosquitoes into a profitable product of some sort?
I'd buy a few of these machines and take them up into the arctic during the summer when there are billions of the buggers everywhere. Spend a summer farming them and then sell them as an environmentally friendly protein source to vegans or maybe turn them into fish food or something...
