The studies shows in the wild there are little more oversize tigers than lions. In all we can say both the lion and the tiger are the biggest cats. From ScienceDaily, September 13, 2009 Oxford study conclusions after a reevaluation of the lion/tiger weight records, it does not show the tiger is bigger. The 2009 Tigers of the world book study said the lion is in average little bigger than the tiger. Because tigers have greater tendency to obesity than lions, the tiger (Siberian) is the biggest only in captivity. This does not mean male lion can't reach similar weight than captive male tigers, records shows whatever weight the tiger reached in captivity so the lion. The difference is there are more of them than lions. So not only pound per pound the bulkier lion (his muscle structure more concentrated at the front where is the true power) is stronger in all in the wild the lion and the tiger are roughly similar in weight. There of course some exceptions, but exceptions are not the rule. So when you read the Siberian tiger is the biggest feline it is only true in captivity. Unfortunately, too often the wild and captive tigers weight are unfairly mixed.

Leaving aside the smaller subspecies, lions and tigers overlap in size and weight (although lions are slightly taller). We could say that the average weight is between 190-210 kg. The largest feline in the wild is an African lion (Kenya) that reached 272kg (empty stomach). The heaviest tiger is a 261kg Bengal tiger.
The Kenyan lion from Koch was at times referred to as a “cattle killer”, but it wasn’t habitual enough to make him fat, as Koch noted that it was simply big, not fat. Wonderful video! I love how detailed you were with every thing! I wanna note a few things: 1. Some of the images were scaled wrongly, while tigers appear impressive in pictures and in real life, they generally have smaller skulls than lion (like a scientist once put it 'tigers have small heads on large bodies while lions have large heads on smaller bodies), but tigers usually have wider skulls than lions, so in a scaling from side view, if the lion's head doesn't appear a little bigger, then the scaling is wrong (though not for every lion, some are smaller). 2. While male lions have manes to appear bigger, tigers have very loose skin and longer fur (especially Siberian tigers who have the most loose skin and the longest fur of the big cats), this helps to accumulate fat (more in siberian tigers to survive the winter cold), so the loose skin gives them more room to put on extra weight or as i like to think, expand. So in captivity, because it is already assumed that tigers are much larger, they are fed more, and this plus the loose skin gives them the potential to be the biggest.
3. Siberian tigers actually average 176.4kg, and because they are the fewest in number of all wild tigers (over 600 individuals), it's hard to see much larger specimens, but during winter, it's very possible to see big males who can weigh between 230-270kg. This is because during winter, Siberian tigers like grizzly bears have to put on much weight (though they don't need to hibernate), so they can put on up to or a little over 30kg of fat to survive the harsh conditions of the cold, and this extra weight can enable them go a week comfortably without food. So imagine a big male who weighs 220-240kg, then he puts on 30kg, that's 270kg. Sadly, given the reduction in prey size and availability, plus lose of habitat, it's hard to see many male Siberian tigers weighing that much, but there will definitely be monsters out there. So the 280-300kg is now unrealistic.
4. Bengal tigers (together with a few types of lions) are probably the largest wild cats today. Bengal tigers, especially the ones from kaziranga and Corbett have very big and healthy specimens that can weigh 200-270kg with ease (with some weighing over 270kg). Due to lack of media coverage or attention in specific areas in Africa, massive lion specimens aren't weighed and even if they're weighed, they don't make it to the media. For instance, in game reserves like Dinokeng and Entanambi, two male lions weighed 300kg and 309kg respectively, but the media won't show this. A huge male lion called BDM weighed 280kg+ at the time of his death, there are other game reserves with massive male lions who aren't weighed or whose weights don't make it to the internet.
5. The population of lions that are considered bigger than others cannot average 190kg, more correctly, the smallest of the bigger lion population should average 200kg and the biggest should average over 235kg. Reason? An old Namibian male lion who was about 17 yrs of age and looked so skinny and not so impressive was weighed and he weighed an astonishing 217kg! Now Crater lions, Okavango lions, even the private game reserve lions usually produce males that look far bigger than this old Namibian male, so there's no way they would weigh 190kg, no way at all.
😂 Siberian tigers average 400 lbs in the wild and even the Bengals are bigger on average but the lions are about same but it makes no difference when the lion has the highest muscle percentage of ALL mammals and higher bone density than any tiger, making them naturally stronger and add on their frequency, and you got the King 👑 of the Beasts 💪🏼 🦁
Time to grow up and learn that lions don't live in jungles therefore they can not be the king of it. One can not be the king of somewhere he doesn't live. A Frenchman can not be the king of England now can he? Tigers do live in jungles but they are not the king of the jungle. They are lords of the jungle. Everybody knows that even kings must bow down to their lord.
@@t74guard78 he just explained that the Asiatic lion isn’t extinct. They still live in the jungles of India. In fact, it was us Indians that gave the lion the nickname the king of the jungle
@@jancyvargheese5351 hahahahah I don't know where you get your info from but you really should pay attention to what your seeing or reading. Who said the Asiatic lion was extinct? Not sure what you meant by that. They don't live in jungles anywhere. There a very few left in India live in the Gir forest or something like that. Jungles don't have enough prey animals to support a pride of lions. I know Asiatic lions have smaller prides than African lions but there are still more than one of them in a pride. It was Disney who gave the lion that false title while promoting a movie. hahahhahaha and I am sure when those who think the lion is the king of the jungle think of the lion, it isn't the Asiatic lion they are thinking of. That's funny. It really doesn't matter cause the lion isn't king of the jungle that is for sure. He isn't king of beasts, beast referring to land animals, either. The Kodiak bear is the real king of beasts. He is followed by the Siberian tiger, Polar and Grizzly bears who are followed by the Bengal tiger and Brown bear. Then finally comes the lion. 7th place is no place for a king. Each animal mentioned before the lion can all defeat a lion on a regular basis. Tigers have proven that throughout history when the two have fought. The tiger usually won. The lion and four species of bear don't have to fight to know who would win those battles. The bears easily. Also bears and tigers rule over their domains as a single ruler like kings do. Every living animal in their environment are their subjects. Lions share their rule even in their own pride. Most prides have at least 2 dominate males, some have 3 and even up to 4. This means that even ruling over the pride is shared. No king shares his kingdom with another king. Always 1 king per kingdom. Just the way it is. So looking at this logically, to call the lion king of anything is illogical. I know I wouldn't admit that I was a part of falsely giving the lion such a title it doesn't deserve. That's embarrassing. hahhahahahahahhahaahahha
The king of the cat family, king of the jungle ☝️ (not to describe the " king " as in general but king as the strongest and the ruler ) The Tiger the only cat above the lion and the cat that don’t let lion fanatics sleep without feeling insecure at night.
Lions have more stronger forelimbs than tigers, that's why they swipe harder than tigers. Their swipes generate more force and powers than that of tigers, every video of their fight you see tigers on their hindlimbs swiping lions very fast and hard and the lions feel as though nothing has happened while a single swipe from a lion usually knock tigers to the ground
@giuseppesoccio8933 : Lions have much thicker hind limbs than tigers. Lions also have wider and deeper chests to accommodate larger lungs and hearts. That's why lions have more stamina and can battle big prey or fight for 30 minutes or longer. The reason tigers can jump higher and run faster is because they have longer, thinner, and more flexible spines. The reason they can stand on their hindquarters better than lions is because their weight is distributed more evenly than a lion's due the lion's wider and deeper chest. It's a lot like how women can lift a chair with their heels and behinds against a wall, but men can't.
Historically, both the siberian tiger and the bengal tiger were significantly larger than the largest subspecies of the african lion. However, poaching and habitat loss has hit the tiger much harder overall than the lion. Larger specimens were picked off, leaving smaller ones to pass on their genes. Repeated over several generations, both of the largest species of tiger today are no longer larger than the african lion. Infact some studies suggest they are a bit smaller on average. But that's mostly our doing.
Historically they were both of similar size , Lions also suffered from Poaching some subspecies of Lions such as the Barbary Lions were some of the biggest according to Roman accountd
@@913egok You clearly don't. The size difference between a Lion and leopard or say an Elephant and a rhino would be significant. Even the untrained eyes can see there isn't any "significant" difference in size between lions and tigers. Tigers normally weigh more than lions and lions are taller at the shoulder. In fact there is very much overlap in size between the two species. Historic estimates aren't very reliable and massive exaggerations of even 1000 lbs lions and tigers are often mentioned. In reality tiger and lions are very similar in sizes and the reason tigers are considered the largest cats is because of their greater weight. Mass has often been used as an indication of size in the animal kingdom when the overall volume of two animals are similar.
@Invincible.09 Lions are a little taller and Tigers are longer, more muscular and weigh more to be specific I’m talking about the Siberian and Bengal Tiger vs African and Barbary Lion.

Appear? Well it has been scientifically proven that tigers have more muscle mass and density therefore greater strength. Tigers appear bigger because they are bigger. Having more muscle means less fat than lions. Again that is scientific fact.

The largest cat in History are lions. Tigers are only considered the largest today because the remaining lions subspecies in slightly smaller than the remaining tiger subspecies but if we look in to History Lions specifically the Mosbach and Cave lions who average 800 lbs in weight which is far more larger than any lion and tiger species today. Here's a misconception those 700 lbs. tigers doesn't exist in the Wild The largest wild Siberian tiger, or Amur tiger, was recorded in the 1950s and weighed approximately 660 pounds (around 300 kilograms). The largest wild lion ever recorded is often cited as a male lion shot in 1936 in Tanzania, which reportedly weighed around 690 pounds (approximately 313 kilograms).
Ever since I was around 11 or 12, I am 62 now, I have been reading and watching things about big cats and bears. Everything I have read and watched about big cats all say the same thing. The tiger is the biggest and strongest cat in the world. On average, the Bengal tiger is between 50 - 75lbs bigger than the average african lion. There has been some false information going around, pretty much all of it comes from right here with people saying it and not so much seeing actual proof, that the Siberian tigers has somehow shrunk in size. Some so called recent surveys claim the average Siberian tiger weighs around 460lbs. I know of one survey that was done a few yeas ago and the results came from only 21 individual tigers non of which were full grown tigers. Only a few subadult tigers and the rest were tigresses. I have also read a report of 3 sets of tracks recently found of huge tigers. One is estimated at around 700lbs while the other two between 600 - 650lbs. Obviously these three were not included in the survey. Wild Siberian tigers are not the only ones left. There is a good portion of the remaining population in zoos and wild animal parks and some even that are privately owned. There is no question as to their size with 600lbs tigers not being that uncommon. Some even larger. It is true that captive animals do get bigger than wild ones and that is because of the steady, healthier diet. But no animal will get bigger than it's genetics/DNA will allow. When the whole population of Siberian tigers in the world is included in the survey, that average Siberian tiger weighs between 500 - 600lbs which is between 75 - 125lbs larger than an average African lion. Seeing a Siberian tiger and an African lion standing side by side the difference is totally clear who is bigger. EVen with a mane which makes it look bigger than it really is, it is quite easy to see that the Siberian tiger is much, much larger. In fact, Siberian tigers are more in the bears weight class than it is in the cat's. When seeing a Bengal tiger next to an African lion, it's harder to see the size difference. Again the lion's mane makes it look bigger than it really is. But what gives the Bengal tiger the bigger size is muscle mass. It has been proven that tigers have more muscle mass and density. The is what gives them superior strength and power plus the added weight. We all know that muscle is heavier than fat. Not saying the lion is fat, it just has less muscle mass and density. Anyway tigers are unquestionably bigger than lions. That has been well known for my whole life and I am sure ever since man brought the two together. Any book you read, any show you watch will all say the tiger is the biggest cat in the world. Hardly think the whole world of animal experts and scientists are lying about it. To be honest, the only people left that ask this question are those who haven't had enough education to understand this fact. Just like the ones who make videos of who would win in a fight between them asking that question. The question has been answered for a couple thousand years dating all the way back to the Roman Empire. Accounts of these two animals fighting each other clearly show the tiger usually won. I am only referring to fair fights meaning one on one and both are healthy males. There are many of several lions killing a single tiger. Young vs old and lion vs tigress. I am not including those kind of fights for the obvious reasons. I have to laugh at those videos cause they all try and determine who would win by comparing things about them. That is fine if the two animals have never fought for real. But tigers and lions have a couple thousands times and all because of man. So the best way to figure out who would win is to look back on all their fights. Which I have done over and over and over and over again, for the last 50 years. I already said what I found out so no need to go through it all again. I know lion fanboys have never accepted these facts because of their gigantic denial problem. But that is none of my concern. If they want to continue living in their little delusional worlds that is fine with me.
You got that backwards. Tigers are bigger and lions are a bit taller. Which is a disadvantage when fighting. Being lower to the ground gives a tiger better leverage. When it comes to fighting, having better leverage is extremely important.
Technically I believe the lion stands taller (slightly) - BUT the Tiger is much stronger both physically and bite force as well. Also, the tiger is a better hunter (ambush) style.
But the lion would have pick up his scent long before he was in position to ambush, this would most likely be a territory fight...in most case they would have picked up on echother cent
Tigers are bigger because of the fat due to cooler area they inhabit unlike lion only pure muscles, but in a flight lion often came out victorious and will always dominate tigers
Dummer? hahhahhaha Well saying less educated and lower IQ is a much better way of bringing up that fact. Same as the tiger is more intelligent than the lion which has been proven scientifically.
skill always how to used energy and power in right timing lion fight skill supper muscle mass very good clever on fight is not hhow big is how skill and intelligent he is demans respect
Must be a child cause you still believe in all the bullshit myths that surround the lion. So the tiger has less courage than the lion you say. Funny, courage is something used with humans not animals. How does one measure courage in an animal? Is there some kind of device to measure it or do they just walk up to the animal and ask it, " Do you feel courage right now?" hahahahah How much courage does an animal need when it has many brothers and sisters around all the time helping it fight, get food, etc? Like humans, everybody has courage in a group. Much different when they are alone. Being alone, always fighting alone and hunting and killing alone. Fighting off other predators alone, now that take courage. Leopards having to live next to both lions and tigers takes courage. Actually like I said, courage is a human feeling. Animals don't have courage, they go on instinct. I know your referring to the old myth about lions never back down from a fight. Will enter a fight it has no chance of winning. That is what your talking about right? Well I have many times watched, on shows, a lion retreat from a fight and even refuse to fight at all. No different than the other big cats. The other way to look at a lion entering a fight it can't win is because it lacks the intelligence to understand it is in danger. Which is a more truthful statement than giving it human feelings. If you seen a loved one entering into a fight he or she couldn't win, you would think they were foolish and shouldn't have done it. Well it is the same with lions. Anyway, grow up and get an education. Lions don't have any more courage than tigers, leopards or jaguars. If anything, like I said, they have less because they live in groups and always has help. It takes more courage to do things alone without any help.

Great somebody whos education comes from you.tube videos making a complete ass of himself. White lion, hahahah like it is a separate subspecies. Look bozo, you.tube videos are considered to be the worst source for information, especially when it comes to this subject. There are so many lion fanboy videos out there that are filled with bullshit and heavily edited video clips. Learning from them is not learning at all. Any educated person with an IQ higher than that of a tree understands that. I have debunked dozens of them pointing out their lies and edited videos. Doesn't matter what subspecies of lion you use, tigers are still the biggest, strongest, most bad ass cat on the planet. That is a fact that is supported by both science and history. Because tigers are solitary animals, they are more aggressive. That is how nature works. Solitary animals need to be more aggressive because they don't have others around to help it. When defending a kill, it has to fight alone or it will lose it's meal. Lions live in groups so they always have help. They don't need much aggression because having others around, they don't have to work as hard to defend a kill or territory. Being taller in a fight is a disadvantage actually. Ever heard of leverage? Very important thing when it comes to fighting. Being lower to the ground means better leverage,. So being taller for the lion is bad, not good. Tigers run away, see videos.. Ok wait, hahhahahhahahahahhahhaahahahhahahahahahhaha ok that is freaking hilarious. Let me guess, see you.tube videos right? The ones that show animals who have lived in captivity their whole lives. Many have been abused. None showing a real fight but 15 second disagreements. Some show not fights but animals who grew up together playing. Many the sex of the tiger can't be determined and could be a tigress. Yeah those videos are all great indicators of who is superior right? hahahahahahahahahahahah give me a break fool. How about go to a library and read up on real accounts of real fights between these two animals. Videos here don't do that. They compare eating habits and habitat and speed. Things that have nothing to do with their ability to fight. If the two animals have never fought before, then find compare them. But these two have fought many, many times in the past. Accounts of these fights clearly show the tiger generally won. I am talking about a fair fight meaning one on one with both being healthy males. There are many with several lions killing a single tiger or a lion killing a tigress and of course, young vs old. Those kind of fights don't count for me. Most of these fights are between captive animals as well except the ones held in the Roman Coliseum. The Romans used captured WILD animals. These were the best examples of tiger vs lion fights. If you don't know the difference between a wild and captive animals, you shouldn't say a word about this. Anyway in the many different sources I have read about this, around 1,900 fights were staged with the lion winning 263 of them. That is 14% of the time. Bengal and Caspian tigers were made to fight mostly Barbary lions and some African lions as well. So apparently, according to actual historical fact, tigers hardly run away but stand and fight and kill lions most of the time. Oh and there are many videos of tigers using lions as punching bags here as well. See videos, hahahhahahah Bottomline, watching and learning from you.tube videos only means you haven't learned anything at all.

As for the 261kgs tiger, that is M105, Sauraha, who exceeded the scale of 272kgs, with stomach content (he looked 1/3 full). The empty belly mass was estimated using the chest girth.
However, there are more recent weights that has surpassed either for either felid.

The tiger is sostantially a little more heavy also if we considerate the subspecie.
Wonderful video! I love how detailed you were with every thing! I wanna note a few things:

Kaziranga's tigers are beast and biggest cat on earth

@@theguy3129 I'm a data scientist so I probably have a better understanding of what "significant" means than you do.

Here's a misconception those 700 lbs. tigers doesn't exist in the Wild
The largest wild Siberian tiger, or Amur tiger, was recorded in the 1950s and weighed approximately 660 pounds (around 300 kilograms).

Technically I believe the lion stands taller (slightly) - BUT the Tiger is much stronger both physically and bite force as well. Also, the tiger is a better hunter (ambush) style.

Its not matter of size
Its courage in which tiger never beat lion 🦁
