The largest recorded specimens come from the Siberian population, but on average Bengals are now heavier. Probably because they are much more abundant and poaching and hunting pressure is much lower. Although now these are considered populations rather than subspecies and now split in just two subspecies the Continental Tiger (taking the binomial name of Bengal Tiger, Panthera tigris tigris) and the Sunda island tiger (taking the binomial name of Javan tiger, Panthera tigris sondaica)
Yeah, is now known as 2 subspecies of tigers, the mainland tigers, and the island tigers, which I like to use the word groups, to refer to what used to be subspecies..
@Edwin Reveron and @Nihar Gawand, actually, there are twelve subspecies of tiger (Uncia tigris), the †Caspian Tiger (Uncia tigris virgata), the Bengal Tiger (Uncia tigris tigris), the Siberian Tiger (Uncia tigris altaica), the †Wanhsien Tiger (Uncia tigris acutidens), the South China Tiger (Uncia tigris amoyensis), the Indochinese Tiger (Uncia tigris corbetti), the Malayan Tiger (Uncia tigris jacksoni), the †Ngandong Tiger (Uncia tigris soloensis), the Sumatran Tiger (Uncia tigris sumatrae), the †Javan Tiger (Uncia tigris sondaica), the †Trinil Tiger (Uncia tigris trinilensis), and the †Bali Tiger (Uncia tigris balica), the mainland tigers are a paraphyletic group because the malayan tiger is more closely related to the five sunda island subspecies than it is to the other mainland subspecies.
@Edwin Reveron, there only are twelve subspecies of tiger (Uncia tigris), the †Caspian Tiger (Uncia tigris virgata), the Bengal Tiger (Uncia tigris tigris), the Siberian Tiger (Uncia tigris altaica), the †Wanhsien Tiger (Uncia tigris acutidens), the South China Tiger (Uncia tigris amoyensis), the Indochinese Tiger (Uncia tigris corbetti), the Malayan Tiger (Uncia tigris jacksoni), the †Ngandong Tiger (Uncia tigris soloensis), the Sumatran Tiger (Uncia tigris sumatrae), the †Javan Tiger (Uncia tigris sondaica), the †Trinil Tiger (Uncia tigris trinilensis), and the †Bali Tiger (Uncia tigris balica), the †Caspian Tiger (Uncia tigris virgata) is the most basal of the twelve tiger subspecies and the Bengal Tiger (Uncia tigris tigris) itself is only the second most basal subspecies, the bengal tiger surprisingly gave rise to two clades, one that includes the Siberian Tiger (Uncia tigris altaica), the †Wanhsien Tiger (Uncia tigris acutidens), and the South China Tiger (Uncia tigris amoyensis) and the other containing the Indochinese Tiger (Uncia tigris corbetti), the Malayan Tiger (Uncia tigris jacksoni), the †Ngandong Tiger (Uncia tigris soloensis), the Sumatran Tiger (Uncia tigris sumatrae), the †Javan Tiger (Uncia tigris sondaica), the †Trinil Tiger (Uncia tigris trinilensis), and the †Bali Tiger (Uncia tigris balica).

We had dense forests, hundreds of large and small rivers, and big swampy forests which were ideal places for hunting big prey like Water Buffalo, Samber Deer, Nilgai, and Gaor. All of the past famous travelers like Ibne Batuta, and Hiuen Tsang wrote about the abundance of Tiger in this region than any other part of India. Before conquering India, the British made their base in the Western and southern parts of India. They clearly identified that the Bengal region was home to the highest number of tigers and the highest number of people died in tiger attacks here. That's why they named this species of tiger after the Bengal region.

there are sub species in bengal tiger also like sunderbans tigers are more athletic , faster and smaller while if you go a little bit north the tigers are relatively bigger . Also a few years ago a tiger name waghdoh was the biggest wild tiger in the world weighing in around 320kgs and was based in central india. Currently there is no clear estimate of how many tigers are there in indian sub continent as its population is increasing day by day.
We had Wagdoh he was around 280 kilograms.. He died recently in the wild..... His kids around 32 of them Shiva is one male he is grown big like his dad Wagdoh....he is over 220 kilograms and growing....
The largest tiger without any doubt is the Amur tiger. Several times I personally observed him in the wild nature of Primorsky Krai. The weight of an adult animal reaches more than 300 kilograms, the body length is two meters without a tail and the tail is about one meter long. An animal of this size easily carries an adult cow several kilometers away from its hunting ground. If you are really interested in this, you can read the book "Half a Century of Tiger Hunting" by Yuri Yankovsky. That's how it is, dear friends! With love from Russia!!!
@@Syed________6686 The question is which tiger is the largest, not fat! The length of the body with a tail in the Siberian tiger is about 3.5-3.7 m, in the Bengal tiger - about 3 meters. Well, as for the giant Bengal tigers, they say that in the south of the Primorsky Territory of the Far East there are tigers over 550 kilograms in weight. Like this!

If humans foolishly let tiger go extinct, we will be losing perhaps the most amazing, awe striking, and beautiful creature on earth. I want to praise such country as India that is doing impressive work to preserve tiger.
There is a new subspecies in Arunachal Pradesh of India. Plus the tigers along the Nepal and Uttarakhand Tarai region is significantly larger than those found in Bengal.
Yes ironically the Sunderban tiger may not be Bengals at all but a smaller and more aggressive subspecies. Some are calling them swamp tigers. But they are difficult to study so nothing’s for certain. The Terai tigers may be the true Bengals.
Indochinese and Bengal tigers can also be found in Myanmar. There used to be a large tiger population in British colonial era but the population reduced to almost extinction due to poaching and black market in many areas of the country.
I am from Pakistan and want to thank Indian government and other people in India who are involved in Tiger preservation.. We all need to think about the future
If the Siberian tiger was genetically healthy and had access to all of its large prey, then it's the biggest. Unfortunately there's hardly any of them left so we'll probably never see it.
Actually tigers are smaller & almost equal in size to that of average lioness or a grown up cougar or jaguar. The half to one inch thick fur coat of their entire body makes them appear healthier or bigger than cougar or lioness & yellow black tattoo like stripes makes them appear muscular. While lions don't have any fur on their body except around the neck we call it mane.
@@maxanderd10I don't understand on what ground that comparison is made.Tiger is the largest and strongest in the cat species...Dude are you seriously comparing a 200 pounds(at max ) cougar with 600 pounds tiger....

In india, there was a tiger named Wagdoh. Wagdoh was the Crowned king of Todoba forest reserve. He was the largest tiger in the asia weighing over 300kgs. His territory was about 150sq. kms. He mated with many females nd gave birth to around 20 cubs. But his beloved tigress was Madhuri. Madhuri lost her territory to another female nd left Wagdoh's territory forever. At the eame time there was another tiger named Bajrang who had entered Wagdoh's territory. Wagdoh was madly in love with Madhuri so he left his territory in search of Madhuri. He was only defeated by one tiger named Khali as Wagdoh was pretty old nd weak at that time. After the defeat, khali took Wagdoh's beloved Girlfriend Madhuri nd had kids with her. Wagdoh eventually died in 2022. What happened to his territory? Well it was taken by the upcoming king of todoba, Bajrang. Bajrang was not as big as Wagdoh but was still huge and powerful. He successfully defended his territory and defeated many tigers. He had more than 30 kids nd was nd ruled for years after wagdoh left. Later on, he faced the son of matkasur(another male tiger in todoba), i.e. Chota Matka. At that time, Bajrang was pretty old as well. He was defeated by chota Matka nd died in November 2023 due to extensive bleeding and wounds caused during the fight with Chota Matka. Now Bajrang's territory is divided amoung 6 male tigers. After Wagdoh, bajrang expanded hir territory even more nd made it the largest territory of a single male tiger in India. Why are these indian tigers so powerful that people name them nd extensively track their each nd every step? It's just cze indian govt is taking measures to protect these tigers. Many of you don't know but there was a male tiger who raised 2 of his tiger cubs alone after their mother's death. It's only happened twive in the recorded history. One of the cub eventually died from the electric fencing but the other one is still slive. Her father has left her now cze she's an adult female now. All these things are so interesting. I'd suggest you go through these real stories of brngal tigers.
Also, male Siberian tigers need 500 miles of territory to themselves, while females need only 200 miles. Females can cross and overlap the male territory, but other males cannot.

There's a project of Pleistocene Park in northern east of Siberia. They are going to gradually bring some animals who lived in Ancient Siberia including Siberian tigers.
Thankfully the populations are growing again, but one major difficulty doesn't even have to do with human encroachment. It's the sheer size of territory a tiger demands. They are solo animals, not social like lions, and roam enormous territories. Many young male tigers and tiger cubs are killed by other dominant males. When tiger cubs are rescued from a dangerous situation and ultimately released as adults into the wild, or an injured tiger is rehabilitated to a point where it's safe to go back to the wild, it's challenging to find an area that doesn't cross over with another tiger and create critical conflict. Some are even being moved to sanctuaries in South Africa where there are protected preserves. (SIDE NOTE: It turns out tigers do very well hunting African game, but they can't fully be released into the wild there. Even though a single tiger will overpower a single lion with absolute ease, a pride of lions, or a coalition of males is another story and would threaten a lone male tiger, or a female tiger's cubs.)

They gotta work hand in hand to save these majestic animals.
It has nothing to do with Bengal. The British conquered Bengal first so named it "Bengal" tiger.
@@user-io7sh7nx7c Who said this to you? The present Bangladesh was the ideal land for this large cat to thrive in nature.

If the Siberian tiger was genetically healthy and had access to all of its large prey, then it's the biggest. Unfortunately there's hardly any of them left so we'll probably never see it.
Even the FSB started poaching it.

On average Siberian tiger is the biggest. But… the biggest recorded individual is a Royal Bengal Tiger.
It's no surprise there are no south China tigers left.
You know tigers are apex predators when they hunt BEARS.
You know human is the apex predator of them all.
