    The skyline has changed so much in the last 20 years. It is set to change dramatically in the next ten years.

    Eureka Tower is named after the Eureka Stockade, a rebellion during the Victorian gold rush in 1854. This has been incorporated into the design, with the building's gold crown representing the gold rush and a red stripe representing the blood spilt during the revolt The blue glass cladding that covers most of the building represents the blue background of the stockade's flag and the white lines also represent the Eureka Stockade flag. The white horizontal stripes also represent markings on a surveyor's measuring staff.

    Even though 120 and 101 were taller because of their spires, I still remember the days the Rialto dominated the entire skyline because of it’s tall roof height. It’s such a beautiful building (in my opinion still the best looking skyscraper in Melbourne). It’s funny when you look at it now and it looks so much smaller because of these nearby buildings that come close to or surpass its height but once upon a time it’s was the centre of attention defining the skyline.

      You can coat a car in 24k gold leaf for less than the cost of painting it.

    Just a slight correction. Melbourne was founded before the Gold Rush, and most Gold was found around 100km away. However the Gold Rush made Melbourne the most prosperous city at the time.
    Good video, Melbourne has a great skyline ✌

    Being involved in painting Victoria one and Westside place was an absolute pleasure, I gotta say these 2 projects were some of my best memories on the job, also Westside place was on a whole different level, what a challenge it was 😁

      * Spire.
      Antennas aren’t actually included in the buildings official height and there is a difference between that and a spire. A spire is implemented into a buildings design and to remove one, the upper levels of a building would have to changed. Antennas you can remove as you please. Bourke place for instance has an antenna that brings its total height to 254 m however it’s offical height is 224 m because the antenna doesn’t count. 120 Collins street however has full fledged spire that reaches 265 m despite having a roof at ~ 220 m. If you were to remove it you would have to make alterations to the top floors hence why they include it in its offical height. Q1 is the same. I see where people are coming from in terms of roof height however.

      @@TheJayden3977 I agree. So in your opinion is the should the height be to spire? Or to roof?

      Honestly it’s a tricky one because I see both sides to the argument but I would go with spires because they will never be removed and are apart of the building itself. Even the Burj Khalifa technically has like a 300 m spire on top of it because it’s top floor I believe is at 500-550 m.
