Only chance ford has to stay alive is grab a slice of the EV market and the pickup is their best shot. I like the Mach-e too but Ford is best known for their trucks. Its going to be interesting to see how the next few years playout. All i know is whoever can make an AFFORDABLE pickup with more range than we have today, and that doesn't completely drain the battery when towing will make a killing. The problem is nobody has the means of production or supply yet to produce enough at a scale that makes it both profitable for them and affordable for the consumer. Almost there though.

I feel like if this was a Tesla on the Tesla charging network I would buy one. I’ve heard of way too many issues with the non Tesla charge networks. Now that Tesla is opening their charge network that may make this a good option. Not sure on charge times either. That may be the other issue. We are in the market for an F250 right now which is in the same price range. I don’t need the tow capacity really. We have a tundra right now that tows everything we have. Boat, and soon to be travel trailer. It is close to the max of the tundra though. This to me is not a big deal for EVs but for a gas vehicle I’d rather it not be sitting at the max so that’s why we look at the F250. It’s also the reason the EV trucks could work for us but I have too many issues with them still. I really feel like I’d have to keep the tundra for a very small amount of trips. For example if we wanted to take the boat to the mountains that’s about 400miles away. The EV truck would be annoying to use. Same thing with if we wanted to head to the mountains and do some camping with the travel trailer. This just doesn’t work. It’s too much of a hassle. I really want EV to work but it’s just not there yet, for us at least.

I'm excited for an electric truck but I can't buy until range goes up. These sub 300 mile ranges limit 2/3rds of the country. I live with cold winters and tow my travel trailer throughout the Summer. When not towing our interstate speed limits are 80 mph, 85 practically. Ford Motor Company has recently lost a lawsuit from a vendor that they had doing their software until about 2014. Apparently Ford dropped them claiming they had their own software, but it turns out they basically copied from the vendor they dropped.
Ford's general above average recall levels keeps me away from by of their products. It will be interesting to see if GM and Tesla EV trucks truly hit the market next year. Ford ramping up fast now is smart. When ever GM and Tesla get their EV trucks to market, it will take them at least a year to truly ramp up.

I was thinking of the Ford Lightning as a future vehicle, but the price seems to be increasing every 3 months. Also, I’m not sold on EV batteries that are raising environment havoc with the mining of and processing of battery materials and the fact that most batteries are coming from China. A recent video indicated that one has to drive at least 60K miles just to break even with net zero on CO2 emissions on EV’s . Plus, I don’t believe the hype being pushed about CO2 being a culprit when it is only 0.04% of the earth’s atmosphere. The climate change models cannot reproduce past history regarding planet temperatures. How can one have any confidence that these models can predict the future. EV technology sound wonderful, but I don’t want to have to pay $10K to $15K more for a vehicle with lots of bonus features that I don’t need. Most new EV sedans are now smaller than their ICE predecessors. Perhaps if car manufacturers produced ICE vehicles with lower friction losses, mpg would greatly improve. There needs to be a big reduction in battery weight (higher energy capacity) and fasting charging cycles to make them as convenient as ICE vehicles.
