    Do you struggle when eating out at restaurants? Thumbs up if you know what I mean!! Sometimes I just want to go all out and eat whatever I want (and I do!) but sometimes I’m trying to stay more on track and like knowing there are options out there that aren’t necessarily just salad. Today I’m sharing 20 swaps to lighten the load when eating out, I hope you enjoy! Share your favorite swaps below please!! :)

    A good restaurant will always offer substitutions. We were at Panara Bread last week and I ordered a salad without the chicken. She asked me if I'd like to substitute avocado for the chicken. Love that place:))

    I'm in the process from moving from Toronto to Northern California and currently staying at my in-laws and there has been so much eating at restaurants. I've been using most of these ideas for trying to make the restaurant meals healthiers.

    Nice addition of the swap coffee or espresso or latte for dessert. Especially now that I'm doing dairy free (not always), I find an almondmilk latte with a little stevia just as satisfying without all of the crappy feeling the next day. Who knew that even a decaf just fills that need after meals to "finish" with something? :)

    • @MindOverMunch
      @MindOverMunch  7 років тому +1

      I agree! And I think a lot of us get caught up in NEEDING dessert, so maybe we just need to redefine what "dessert" can be :)

    Hi! You should try to make homemade whole wheat saltine crackers! (Like the Keebler or Rovira ones) they're so good but are made of refined flours which I don't like..

  • @BuildYourHome
    @BuildYourHome 7 років тому +1

    Yes! I love what you said at the end, it's going to waste if you don't want to finish it and eat it anyway. The food will either go to your waist or the waste bin, either way it's going to waist. :)

    • @MindOverMunch
      @MindOverMunch  7 років тому

      Exactly! I think a lot of people let their guilt of not finishing something FORCE them to eat, but if it isn't what our bodies appreciate, it isn't doing anyone any good.

  • @allisonbricknellgeorge2865
    @allisonbricknellgeorge2865 7 років тому +3

    So funny I have the same saying about eating when you don't enjoy your food being a waste ! I have strong debates with friends about this (I'm French we get intense when it concerns food)

    • @MindOverMunch
      @MindOverMunch  7 років тому

      I think those debates happen all over the world, food is so personal! :) The best thing we can do is do what resonates with us and agree to let others do the same.

    i loved that last tip YOU DONT HAVE TO FINISH! exactly! people look at me oddly when I don't finish my meal and just tell me to finish it. I'm all nope! You do you and I'll be me ! :)

  • @yokeynahernandez4626
    @yokeynahernandez4626 7 років тому

    I relate so hard to the "you don't have to finish your food" thing , my parents always said it was good to have a "clean plate" and would always push me to not waste food

    • @MindOverMunch
      @MindOverMunch  7 років тому +1

      You aren't alone! A lot of people struggle with this pressure either from parents or from guilt of wasting food. I always try to encourage people to listen to their bodies more than their minds with this- if wasting the food bothers you you can always take it home :) It is a struggle but with practice it gets easier. I am still figuring this out, too.

    I love the final comment. I'm not used to the big portions in the US and additionally some of the ingredients that I asked to not be included end up in my dishes anyway.. and I always feel judged and ridiculed for picking them out or leaving stuff over.. It's getting better, but the weird looks sometimes get to me.
    That you mention this as something that "just happens" and is not specific to me will probably help. =)

    • @MindOverMunch
      @MindOverMunch  7 років тому

    Great video! How about about one dedicated to deserts! Healthe and unhealthy couse unless it's a fruit there are not any healthy options in a restaurant . Wich is less harmful muffin or pancake cheesecake or brownie etc . I usually get a panckace or desert with more cream and less flour I find it metabolizes faster and is not heavy in a stomach so I can even use the rush and workout or do all my errands like a "Flash"

    I only recently got over the guilt of not finishing my meal in restaurants. I used to think the waiters would judge me if it looked like I hadn't eaten 'enough' of the meal. I have a disorder of the small intestine so I prefer to eat little and often and when im out i tend to feel forced to eat as much as physically possible but recently I've been much better at stopping eating when I feel the first twinges of pain and no more. I shouldn't risk causing damage to my health just to save face, I am paying for it after all.

    • @MindOverMunch
      @MindOverMunch  7 років тому +3

      +Kori Skene oh man! That is tough and I'm sorry you have to deal with that. Sometimes a portion when you go out is just huge! Way more than we "need" for one meal. If the only reason we are finishing it is guilt then that's the wrong reason. Best to not make judgments, we don't know what anyone's reasons are and it's none of our business ❤️

    Hi alyssia, do you think that lean meats are unhealthy?

    • @MindOverMunch
      @MindOverMunch  7 років тому

      nope! They can be a great part of a healthy diet, I always try to consider the source when it comes to meat though :) Just be aware that when eating out even lean meats can be cooked with a lot of extra fat (oil and butter) depending on the preparation.

      lol so sorry about the speed! With this one, I didn't feel the PDF was a good idea because since it's a quick video it would take away the purpose of the video to provide one :)

    Why do you associate healthy food with food that is low in fat and calories?

    • @MinttMeringue
      @MinttMeringue 7 років тому +1

      I'm not sure, but probably because when eating out usually the higher calorie foods aren't exactly the best for you or all the dishes have so many calories it ends up being a day's worth

    • @MindOverMunch
      @MindOverMunch  7 років тому +2

      I don't, but when you go out to eat, foods that are higher in fat and calories are generally the options that are less healthy, providing less fuel for our bodies. The fat in these high fat dishes at most restaurants is not coming from healthy unsaturated fats, it's saturated or trans fats that our bodies shouldn't have too much of.

    why would you encourage people to throw away food?

    • @MindOverMunch
      @MindOverMunch  7 років тому +2

      It's not about throwing away food, it's about recognizing that eating something your body doesn't appreciate is just as much of a "waste." You can always give it away, donate it, etc. But the point is you don't have to eat something just because it's sitting in front of you. Cheers
