▬▬▬▬ About ▬▬▬▬
This is the brand new Comandante C60 Baracuda hand grinder - and it’s $600. Effectively in the same price range as grinders like the DF83, Eureka Mignon Specialita, several other Eureka Mignon Grinders, and the Timemore Sculptors. All of which are very capable, and very popular electric home coffee grinders.
The original Comandante C40 has been practically the gold standard of the hand grinder market for as long as I can remember, which granted, isn’t that long, but it’s been a very, very popular grinder.
With the impeccable German build quality and 40mm conical burrs, the C40 had become something of a benchmark for great performance and even commonly used for measuring grind size with the Comandante Click system.
And recently, Comandante has dropped the C60 Baracuda. A hand grinder that features new, massive 60mm conical burrs in an all steel, impressively constructed body, that feels as premium as its price point might convey.
So - how does this grinder perform, is it worth the money, and is it for you? That’s what I’m hoping to help you find out in this video.

What do you think about the new Comandante C60 Baracuda Hand Grinder?

Wow.. it’s about 200 dollars more than I thought it would cost
The strange smell on the fingers is caused by the solid brass dial. When I shared this problem with the Comandante community, I received the following response;
"Hello Ahmet, the brass we use is absolutely food safe. Plus you even have brass cutlery, pots and plates, they are also food safe. Maybe on the fingers you experience some event but it's not due to oxidation. So you don't "have to worry about it, we know what we are doing and safety is priority for us"
I am very glad that you included this topic in the video. Thanks for this great review video! 🙌
Hello. Tell me the Velvet Steel version is on sale now. Can Velvet Steel grind for oriental coffee? I heard that the version that was before Velvet Steel could not grind for Eastern coffee.
Loved the vid man! Amazing work as always 👏🏼
Loved the vibe of this video!
Solid review with common sense conclusion
Comandante soon will became in what Rolex is now: a tool turned into a jewel.
Thanks for your review. A minor update in case it helps others: I fitted Redclix to my C60 and it works just the same as on the C40. Very tasty espresso, rich and full flavoured.
interesting! i saw a comment from comandante themselves saying it is not compatible
Hello, yes, the current RedClix set is not officially compatible with the C60 since the bigger burr might stress the polymer clicker too much potentially leading to damage of the parts. That's why we don't recommend using the RedClix in C60 Baracuda. In the future we might be releasing a RedClix specially made for C60. For now on we think that the GoldClix offers enough flexibility for the majority of the users to perfectly dial in their brews ☺️ @itsxris
Great video! Thanks you!
Thanks for watching!
that is a crazy price
Comandante is the rolex of hand grinders.
Not complicated but a professional workhorse that's timeless and lasts decades.
And now the c 60 is their flex piece.
wow someone using the torch mountain dripper is a rare but pleasant sight lol. The commadante c60 looks great but the price is just way to steep for me. I don't think these "upgrades" really justify the price especially if your not tasting any significant difference + no workflow improvement. thanks for making a video about it!
Thanks for the great review, really good points you made in my opinion!
Random question: What breed is your dog? It's so cute!
Mix of 5+ breeds!
You mentioned that grinding for espresso is "tiring". Does it refer to the longer time (compared to french press) it take to grind, or the extra effort needed? I have a C40 with 38mm burr and a 1zpresso K-Plus with 48mm burr. To grind the same dose with comparable grind size, the 1zpresso does it faster but it's so much harder to grind, I practically never use it without attaching it to a wireless drill. Is that the case with the C60?
My C40 with XL crank (similar to the one that came with C60) can grind espresso easily but it sure takes a long time (18g would normally take me about 1:15). Since the c60 sports the same body diameter, same crank, but bigger burr, I think the physics should dictate that it takes more effort to grind the same dose.
both! it might be because of the handle, difference, but to me it felt like the same effort as the C40 but quicker. perhaps gripping the C60 added extra effort due to the stainless body being somewhat slippery
what is this white tamper station please ?
Came for the grinder, stayed for the dog.
I'll take it
Same here 🥰
Weird you would recommend the C40 as a hand grinder. 1zpresso k series seems to be a much much better value: tastes similar/better, external adjustment, good accessories, much cheaper than the C40. C40 seems to be more of a hipster/designer item.
Few reasons! First, I've never actually used any grinder from 1zpresso (though I should for sure, they may certainly be better bang for buck). Second, the C40 is still a fantastic grinder, maybe not as great value as it was before with so much competition, but still good and a benchmark used very frequently.
@@itsxris That makes sense!
@@itsxris time for that ZP6 filter coffee review and comparison!
Great video! How do you like it compared to a df83 for filter?
I prefer the DF83, but that's more so huge flat burrs vs conical
Dang at that price it better have an unbreakable catch cup and grinding be a completely painless experience from light to dark roast
Pretty sure there won't be many reviews of this thing coming, as most people are by now aware of this company's policy towards competition and their resellers.
Yup. They're a company that does what companies do. The horror and unprecedentedness of that is truly astonishing.
September coffee. Nice.
love it!
@@itsxris my current fave is the “Yukro, washed Ethiopian”. Bought a bunch of it and pitched it in the freezer. Keeping one bag for current drinking, of course.
If i really wanted a great hand grinder and had a big budget and wanted to brew pourover it would be hard to even consider this over the pietro pro brew. At this price id just buy a flat burr electric grinder and a cheaper electric travel grinder😊
It also doesn't sit right with me that they were bullying 1zpresso in the EU to try to fight competition
Thank you @itsXris for the great and honest video ❤
Hello @comandantegrinder, does Red Clix fit to C60 Baracuda? If so, does it mean 3xC40 sensitivity per click?
@@Haggard1963 Hello, the current RedClix set is not officially compatible with the C60 since the bigger burr might stress the polymer clicker too much potentially leading to damage of the parts. That's why we don't recommend using the RedClix in C60 Baracuda. In the future we might be releasing a RedClix specially made for C60. For now on we think that the GoldClix offers enough flexibility for the majority of the users to perfectly dial in their brews ☺️ P.S. it wouldn't mean 3x C40 sensitivity, just the same sensitivity. It's the axle that determines the grind steps, in case of RedClix it's 15 microns per click ☺️
@@ComandanteGrinder Thank you for the informing reply. 🙂
C40 has 30 microns click sensitivity per click, and Red Clix doubles it to 15. As far as I know C60 has 1,5xC40 sensitivity which means 20. And if we apply Red Clix to C60, it will double 20 microns to 10, which is 3xC40's sensitivity. Am I totally wrong on this point? 🤔 🙂
@@Haggard1963 yes unfortunately totally wrong 😅 it's the thread of the axle that determines the accuracy of the grind settings. So if you'd theoretically apply RedClix to C60 it would still be a RedClix with 15 microns change ☺️
Ok no, just pick the Pietro hand grinder with flat Pro burrs...flat burrs...hand grinder. BTW the clarity the lance hedrick burrs give in the pietro is top notch.
I really do want to try a Pietro!
so Red Clix is not compatible?
I dont think so
Just posted below before I saw this. Red Clix fits the C60 perfectly.
@@tomsgrinderlab very promising!

@@ComandanteGrinderso the c60 + red clix 700$ you can buy a Niche 😂😂😂😂😂😂 hahahahha completely crazy
What's next? C83 at $800? 1kg hand grinder in Titanium? 😅
titanium is actually a super light metal haha, but give me an 80mm flat burr all brass hand grinder
I think a tabletop hand grinder would be cool as a halo product
After the C40 comes the C60, so logically the next would be the C90 and then the GO!
It is obviously very good quality hand grinder but i think customers and users made it’s price to that level. It became very popular and almost like a legend in coffee communities. Yes iti is very good and has very good build quality but c’mon what is 600$ price? If you use in home there are plenty of better grinders in market such as Niche. If you use it for your trips or holidays what will you brew with this to understand the difference? I think this price too much exaggerated…
Sold my old c40 for its regular price of 360. And totally regret it. Cant find another zebra
the only way it would be worth it at that price would be if it grinded espresso fine in 30 seconds or less
They need a diamond plate finish
500£. Thanks but no thanks
Who on earth is this grinder even for?
Feels like a designer item rather than a useful coffee product.
The K-series seems better in basically everyway apart from the solid steel and brass.
They haven't made any real practical improvements over the C40.
agreed
Premium snob meme with plastic jar and top 😆
Seems like a total waste! A Helor 106 might be way better!!
