- Here is a quick tip we would like to share about how we design cabinets that fit into a corner. It's an odd space that can easily be very inconvenient so here's our thoughts and how we prefer to deal with them.

I'm building a pantry in a small area and have been pulling my hair out trying to work out how to make sure to use that small corner area. This video has just made my mind up for me! Thank you very much!

40 year ago I built 2 lazy Susans. 34 inch diameter 3 tier. Best use of this space . So easy to find everything.
@2:10 I'll need some serious convincing to believe that having a void maximizes storage. Maximizes convenience at the cost of storage I can believe.
I would never waste that HUGE corner and build this way. I would much rather have the option to store things even if it was difficult to get to rather then block it off. Blind corner for me all day.

We had a lazysusan, I had husband remove it and we used it without, way better then stuff always falling off of it and today I made it way better by adding to the bottom section of it, wicker baskets to hold stuff and make it more organized and then above all that it has a shelf that holds our apple cider vinegar, mixer, strainers, magic bullet. It holds a lot and is way better now without that lazysusan it and yes, would never waste corner!
When a person doesn't have the space allowance, for whatever the reason, then a corner unit can be made to make sense - at a cost. Blind cabinet. Nope. And especially now that I'm on the mature side of life with a back injury and knees that are barking.
I'll find space rather than use a corner, and lazy Susan's are a pain in the ass, unless it's a single bottom shelf that holds recycle bins - that's my only concession, and even then, it would be inset so as not to have its silly door banging against door/drawer handles on either side.
We're putting a Halloween fake skeleton dog in that dead space for someone in the distant future to discover when they redecorate the kitchen.

I like this approach and am planning to use it when remodeling my kitchen. A couple of questions:
1.) What is the spacing for the corner between the drawers? It appears to be about 2". I want to ensure I do not interference between the drawers/doors when opening in the corner.
2.) How do you attach the countertop? Do you just attach it as close to the corner as possible throught the nearest cabinets to the corner, or some other way?

1) usually 2 to 2 1/4". If you've picked out your hardware already you can plan based on the exact dimensions. Otherwise, 2 1/4 would cover you for most hardware
2) If you're referring to the perimeter at the wall, we would screw a 2x or plywood cleat to the wall, making sure we fasten to framing.

The Europeans are WAY ahead of what Americans are accomplishing in kitchen design. I followed their lead and built a round corner cabinet that was gorgeous and worked beautifully. Was it difficult to install? Yes. Was it worth it? Every single day. Will I do it again? YES!

Cool! Yes, you have to have enough space for the drawers with knobs or handles to clear each other.
My kitchen...fitted before I moved in...has big recesses at both corners and no lazy susan. It would have been mad not to have utilised those spaces. Just put stuff in there you might only use every other month.
Having been spoiled by having a zero corner galley kitchen for most of my life, I am now in a house with a kitchen with the dreaded corner cupboard which I am about to renovate. It will be blocked off as you have shown and I will gladly live without that nuisance space. May even add a little time capsule "surprise" for the next renovator of the space

You could totally fit one of those pull out spice racks diagonally in that setup. That would be actually maximizing the space
Thanks for the comment. If you put a diagonal pull out wouldn't that take up space where the adjacent drawers are? Either way there are trade offs, but if a diagonal spice drawer works best for you that would a good way to go!
What drawer hardware are you using? It's got very snug clearance to the sides, which is exactly what we're looking for. Looks like some sort of bottom mount?

so if the other side of that run of cabinets is a room or hallway, would it be possible to build an opening and use that blind corner space in the other room? I realize there is a wall before you get to the cabinet but I wonder . . .
Absolutely! We do that all time in the corner of a peninsula configuration
I love my lazy susan, I remember them having a middle pole, all that is old school, I use the space around the carousel for storage,
The new susans are way better than the old school ones. We're putting a wooden susan on a job were currently working on.
I also hate lazy Susan’s. However, there is great hardware available to pull out and utilize that space. It can be pretty expensive, but space in a kitchen is a terrible thing to waste. I’m building a small kitchen now and trying to maximize every 1/2”! We all have kitchen gadgets that we rarely use so that is a good place to keep them. Like mine it looks like you have diy cabinets there and the hardware that I’m talking about can also be unforgiving when it comes to measurements so you really need to plan ahead to use that stuff. It’s worth it IMO.

Great video - only wish I'd seen it 2 weeks ago, BEFORE we installed all our cabinets! We have a lazy susan in one corner and a blind cabinet in the other, would much rather have done it YOUR way! Definitely keeping this in mind for our next renovation!

Can I use this L-shaped doors type for a blind corner where the bottom floor cabinet on the right side of standing stove/oven meets with kitchen sink with pipe inside with little empty space in the corner? So currently, there is a wall separates that L-shaped spaces in my kitchen, one is under the counter top right next to the stove and the other one is under the kitchen sink with pipe. There is a small free space in deep corner. So am thinking to get rid of that wall so I can reach into that corner if I put stuffs in it 🙂 I dont need lazy susan table, just the L-shaped doors with special hinges with frame on the side of kitchen sink, grinder and pipe.
You certainly could do that. There's no right or wrong answer, whatever gives you the most functionality is the best way!
You are missing a massive use of space. You didn't mention corner drawers that use almost all of that dead space in the corner.
There is also an option for a raising and lowering corner which would keep your lovely wide drawers as you have them, but the hole in the back corner is also used.
If you are advising people about the best use of there space, you may want to do some more research into space saving technologies.
Also try brainstorming some new concepts. Think outside the box.

Thanks for the comment. I don't think you actually gain full use of the corner space with the angled drawers. The space gained on the angle drawer would be offset by the space lost in the adjacent drawers- and if you look at a diagonal drawer set up in floor plan view there's quite a bit of unusable space surrounding the drawer boxes. Raising and lowering the corner counter top would require expensive hardware and seams in the countertop and could only go up as high as the space between the counter and upper cabinet (usually about 18") so you couldn't get full use of the corner that way either. We just put in a rev-a-shelf magic basket corner unit that works really well. We'll make a video of it soon to show another good corner option.

This turns out to be a better solution than most people give credit for. The first step is to minimize your kitchen gear so you're not storing things you don't really use and will forget are in those hard to access corners. I donated all of my seldom used gadgets and extra pots and pans that were duplicates. Now I need less kitchen storage and can have it be easily accessible rather than trying to squeeze out every inch. I don't like any of the pull out hardware mentioned and the better ones are WAY too expensive. Making the cabinet spaces accessible like this gives you more useable drawer or cabinet space to each side of the blanked off corner.

I just had a design light bulb you create a thing that pops up with storage that can be pressed down and hit away like a Jack in The box in the corner that would be so cool somebody needs to make one of those for me!! Help I'm stuck
unfortunately this video is lacking information regarding blind corner options. There are magic corner pullouts available.
The most known brand for effeciency and ease of use is Häfele America Co. they make a Magic Corner I, for Blind Corner Cabinets
Also Reva A Shelf has Rev-A-Shelf 5PSP-15SC-CR-6 it fits the 45" blind corner.
I honestly think the above options are better use of space and no one has to stand on their head. However itll cost a lot for top of the line. Is it worth it? I believe so.

We'll be putting out a video soon on the rev-a-shelf magic basket. It's a good option, but it's got it's draw backs. There are pros and cons to each corner option, but we wanted to share an approach in this video that may not be intuitive, but does make sense in many situations. Thanks for watching!

What is your view on Corner Pantry's? We are tempted by one as we really lack food storage - maybe a blinded corner with full height pull out units is more efficient?
I've never seen a blind corner with full height pull outs so I'm not sure what you mean, I'd love to see new ideas for corners if you have something to share!
Why would wasting all the corner space be better than somehow using it? My pots wouldn't fit in those drawers either
It depends on the situation. A lazy susan or blind corner might make sense if it's a good use of space for your layout. We think drawers are the best use for base cabinets most of the time so it can make sense to maximize drawer space instead of giving up that space in order to access a blind corner. There's no right or wrong, do what works best for you!
If your kitchen has 2 corners and you decide to block them off instead of using that space, I hope that you have a large kitchen...or don't have many items to store.
Large drawers are efficient because they have a large surface area, which is better than having several smaller areas...you don't think a susan is a large surface?
You deal with the corners in the lay out planning phase, it should never happen that you end up with a tiny pull out rack or a space that can't be used next to the susan, you plan this ahead and make sure that the cabinets are still at least 18 inches in width.
Large surfaces are only more efficient at storing large or round shaped items, for smaller rectangular shaped items you lose absolutely zero space with having a smaller drawer plus they even have inserts that fit the width brilliantly, great organization.
It looks like the drawers to the left are in a 30*24 inch cabinet? A 32 inch super susan with 3 levels in a 36*36 inch corner cabinet would easily store as much as that big drawer cabinet and with good planning you can still have a 24 inch wide drawer cabinet in that space.
The drawer on the right would need to be larger regardless, if that is a 12 inch wide cabinet then you would just not have that cabinet and opt for a super susan in the corner cabinet instead. Keep in mind that you need about 3 inches of spacing next to a blocked off corner, especially if you have large handles, thus the drawers you can fit in that space end up being smaller. It does not validate the space and it honestly seems that kitchen designers and installers want the client to block off the corner because it is very easy for them.
Doesn't that dead space in the corner freak anyone else out? Like that is a mouse house waiting to happen and no way to get in there to sort it out!

I have an empty corner in my kitchen between the upper wall cabinets and would like to find a way to use the space. It would be above the 'deleted' corner that is shown in this video. Any suggestions?
I think a blind corner works reasonably well for upper cabinets since they aren't as deep as base cabinets. I've done full blind and half blind upper corners on most projects

Blind corners tend to work better on upper cabinets than lowers. Since they're typically only 12" deep it's not a long reach to get at things tucked away in the corner. That's usually how we handle upper corners. Hope that helps!
*We are considering 45 degree angled corner cabinets. It solves that awkward, accordian style type door opening. With 90 degree angled corner cabinets...I'm fearful we'll eventually just not be as careful and wind up banging and dinging the door cabinets. Ugh.*
You also have to consider that the cabinet and the counter will have to project substantialy more into the space making it difficult to reach the back of the counter

The corner works well in a smaller kitchen for a Franke drop in waste bin.
Idk how people finds it helpful. He is selling the most basic and inefficient option as the best option.
What are the corner measurements for wall and front
All base cabinets are 24 inches deep, thus 24 inches of space was wasted
It all depends on the quality of the craftsmanship. 100% agreed that lazy Susan's are an impractical scam on the person who knows nothing about this stuff. However, I once saw a cabinet that would roll forward revealing another 3 drawer box on wheels hiding back there. It was very easy to remove the front cabinet as it was a 4 drawer base cabinet. But the one hiding behind it was a shorter 3 drawer cabinet on casters. However, 2 years later when I went back there to replace their garbage disposal and asked them what they kept in those drawers and they said, "well at the moment, nothing..."
I can get with this. But how about small kitchens? You have no choice but to utilize the corner.

The corner is blanked off which allows us to have bigger drawers on either side of the corner. It's just one way to work with a corner. In our opinion it can give you more functional storage to have the bigger drawers on either side rather than using a lazy susan or a blind corner cabinet

What about the uppers?
Uppers are less of an issue because they're typically 12" deep. It's easier to get at stuff in a blind corner configuration in the upper cabinets

Just attach a wood cleat to the wall on each side of the corner and you should be good to go
I'm building a tiny house, so no dead space for me is allowed. Lol. If I had the dead corner like this in a house, I'd see about making that face frame in the corner removable and use it as a hiding spot. I know you couldn't get much in there through a limited opening, but it would be good for things likecash you keep laying around.
You definitely have to use every available square inch in a tiny house! Better not give away your super secret hiding place though 😉

That corner is against the outside wall, put a door on the outside wall and a closing lid in the benchtop and have a rubbish bin in the blind corner!

To blank off the corner you run the cabinet boxes on either side to within about 2" of the corner then use filler to close the gap. The 2" +/- allows for knobs or pulls. You don't want the drawer from one side to hit the pull on the adjacent cabinet.

How do you put a 500mm door on a 600mm x 600mm dead corner? Wouldn't that corner cabinet have to be over 1100mm to accommodate a 500mm door and the 600mm dead corner?

Worst suggestion ever. It is not a solution. I'd rather put a lazy Susan door there without a lazy Susan. It is much better than killing it altogether. It is easier to use if it is just drawers, but you lose a ton of space no matter how you silver lining it.

Just put a realistic looking plastic skeleton in that empty corner space, and give the next guy that remodels the kitchen in 20 years a good fright. 😁
