    You are a field mechanic! I absolutely don’t want to give any negative vibes but I have a couple of suggestions. The hydraulic lock for debris and fluid is totally correct, can even crack blocks. However I used to run solvent into each of the bolt holes and use a chaser down the holes to clean them out, then blow them out. An old head bolt with it having a line ground from top to bottom going to the root of the bolt threads makes a good chaser and doesn’t allow for a hydraulic lock. Also years ago I was taught that after the engine ran for about a hundred miles, manufacturers used to want you to retorque the head bolts (because of the expansion and compression between the head, the gasket and the block. Needless to say I never got around to doing that. However after working on CAT engines I think the C12 , I learned a great trick! After your final torque the first time around, mark each head bolt with a paint marker to the block. Back of all the head bolts from the centre out. Retorque the 3 step method once again. You will find bye the paint marks that the bolts are more turned then they started out at. This just eliminated the need to retorque the head bolts after a short set amount of time. Also before installing the head bolts a line down one side of the threads with 90 weight gear oil really helps with the proper torque.
    Like always I admire you and your work! 😊

      Thanks for sharing all that information.
      I did wipe the threads of the head bolts with oil prior to installing, I just forgot to mention it.
      I was going to chase the threads but they all looked clean after spraying them out. I like the idea of the bolt with a groove in it.
      I'll pull the valve cover and re torque the head bolts after a couple heat cycles. It's easy on this engine.
      Thanks for watching and commenting I appreciate your support.

    That's an engine from a one tone Toyota.

      Yeah?
      It was originally sold as a chassis cab conversion.
      How can you tell it's a 1 ton engine?

    just did this whole thing plus a new cam and now the truck misfires on cylinder 3 and 4, has spark and fuel. did i mess up the timing? or do i need to readjust the valves? only runs on 1 and 2 cylinders

      Hmmmmmmm
      That's odd.
      Sure you have the wires in the correct places?
      Carburetor, correct?
      Is the distributor installed correctly?

    • @funjunkiegarage
      @funjunkiegarage  23 дні тому

      You'll want to be sure and check all the obvious stuff again just incase a bad wire or cracked plug or something simple.
      You probably already did that

    • @funjunkiegarage
      @funjunkiegarage  23 дні тому

      It's easy to check the timing with the valve cover off. Also inspect the cam and make sure all valves are adjusted
      Did you do a compression check?

    • @Nethrolloras
      @Nethrolloras 23 дні тому

      @@funjunkiegarage yeah did a compression check, 150 on both 3 and 4, checked all sparks plugs getting spark. Carburated set up on it
