Put Melanie in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame posthumously. It's an unbelievable shame that she wasn't inducted in her lifetime. Such a generational icon! RIP beautiful soul.
Cheers\=/\=/
Agree
I can't believe she isn't there!
hear! hear!
The joke of the R & R hall is that they have someone who admitidly NEVER did any rock music and still gets in - Dolly Parton.
@@cheskybaba4864 She should be in Country Western Hall of Fame. Right?
One voice of my generation that I'll never forget. You're missed already
I'm 70 and listening to this song made me cry. A tidal wave of memories both good and bad, swept over me. I was hippie living in San Francisco on a commune. I name my last daughter after you.
This morning she sent me Mylie Cyrus' rendition of Look What They Did To My Song just to remind me of her namesake.
This song exemplifies that generation that lived through the 60's and 70's. "We were so close, there was no room...we bled inside each other's wounds." If you weren't there, you will never understand.
Imagine that your Mom was Melanie. How proud must her daughters be!💖💖💖💖
Melanie didn’t have a smooth path in life. There were some very dark times for her but she is definitely magnificent. Rest in Heaven M
and her son.
I’m crying a flood tears. You’ll be missed, sweet dove of our generation.
🕊
RIP Melanie. This is one of the most emotional songs I've ever heard. She will always be a legend in my book.
And in mine, too.
It's 53 years (in 2023) since this song came out (in 1970), and unfortunately it is still as relevant today as it was back then - we need the peace that this wonderful song promotes and it should be played as much today as it was back then.
Let the healing continue..........
Muy de acuerdo estoy muy triste con su partida pero dejo un himno
Yes but we were the generation who was going to fix it. Remember sixties man help with the baby and wash up. We didn’t make it and the world is as awful now as it was then and our promises meant nothing. Something about the Road To Hell - - - !
RIP Melanie..........now you can sing with the other angels.
Which she undoubtedly is doing.
Listening to this song tonight remembering Melanie and her amazing music. 1/23/24 RIP Melanie. You’ll be missed. ❤️🌹🙏🏼
I came here for the same reason. A part of my youth feels gone with her passing. Melanie was a beautiful singer, who brought us a lot of joy through her lovely, memorable music, that will always live on. RIP Melanie. You will be missed.
Rest easy, Melanie. You brought so much happiness into this world.
She had a unique voice and a peace & love 60's heart! RIP!
Why have tears overtaken my eyes ? Back then we had more Hope than today...
Still looks beautiful as ever, and her daughters also! Her voice is as powerful as ever! I'm now 70, remember this song from 1970. My favorite song.......
My condolences ladies. Your mother was a giant icon and a huge part of so many of our lives! Cheers\=/\=/
RIP Beautiful Soul……hugs to her children…..💄
Melanie, You were such a part of my teen age years. I loved your music, and your voice. I know of many women from my generation that named their daughters after you ! You will be missed, but you left us a legacy of beautiful songs, and music. RIP, sing with the angels.
I had no idea how powerful her voice was until I listened to this live performance. Beautiful.
She never lost her voice or her beauty. Goodbye Mel.
Rest in peace dear Melanie....much love.......I remember this when i was 11 yrs. old....im tearing up...i must go....bye love!
What a beautiful version! Truly unique... RIP dear Melanie, what a gift you were to all of us...
I loved this song and other songs by Melanie! I was in the U.S. Navy in 1969 during Woodstock, so I could not go to Woodstock. I was in Vietnam in 1970 on a guided missile destroyer when this song came out. I and others on my ship loved this song. RIP Melanie!
OMG your daughters are as beautiful as you and talented you will be 4-ever missed
Omg. Stellar. I was lucky enough to see her around 1971 opening for the Byrds. She must have received five standing ovations. Absolutely incredible.
A beautiful, powerful song and message that never gets old.. It's been over 50 year's since she wrote it, and she still gives me goosebumps when she sings it. This passionate, magical song lives on forever.
Absolutely ❤❤❤
I agree 👍
Where did you learn to use an apostrophe to pluralize "years"?
I always loved Lay Down. Melanie had such a unique voice. RIP
What a beautiful song. I've loved it ever since the first time I heard it those many years ago. Rest in Peace, Melanie. You were one of a kind.
Thank you for the music, Melanie, and all the good you brought into this world, fly on, we will surely meet again.
Omg! What a find! And what a powerful voice, even after all these years.
Some came to sing...some came to pray...some came to keep the dark away. Love Melanie!!!
This is a trip back through time. She is still great!
Melanie. You are a voiceof peace. We still need you to remind us we have to have peace. Or we will have no country. We must come together. God love you Melanie
Love her music so much, so glad I had this music growing up ❤❤❤❤ RIP Sweet Melanie

Ripose in pace
💐💜🙏💜💐 I remember this song when I was beginning collage and losing some friends and family members. I remember people coming home sick, physically and/or mentally, from the war. This is an important song for all times. Thank you Melanie. RIP 💐💜🙏💜💐
What did the Peaceniks do for you-and the others-who returned from 'Nam?
RIP Melanie Thank you for the music and memories
Thank you, Melanie. I’m a 77-year-old listening to you still in 2023. Much love. ❤️

So many memories of growing up in the 60s and 70s and Melanie was a big part of that. RIP dear lady. Gone too soon.🕯️😥
We needthis feeling more than ever...our world is so chaotic right now
She sounds just as Beautiful as ever. She actually sounds the same or better.
Anthem of a generation - still as relevant today. Such a beautiful song. Thankyou!
I think more relevant today.....X10.......
Fly To The Angels, dear Melanie!☮️
Rest in peace, Melanie! I’ve been your fan for over 40 years.
Rip MELANIE..It was a pleasure to meet you. WAXX TRAXX TO THE MAXX ON WUSB FM NY
I was living in a war torn country and this song came on the radio and gave me hope. Thank you Melanie.
And today we still live in a divided country, just like we did back then.
My grandchildren were stunned when I played the original song and poem on a vinyl record with a turntable.
They will be surprised by this video. Talent and real artist's work live forever. Melanie Safka is a highly talented and gifted artist and the world is a better place for her.
I'm only 19 and I love Melanie, I hope her daughters really know how lucky they are to have her for a mom!!💕💋
Thank you Melanie for the powerful reminder of this amazing song I fell in love with as a fourteen year old and over fifty years later it’s lost none of its magic! I really thought we could change the world……..but that man’s greed cannot be defeated is the lesson I learnt along the way.
Years ago, I thought the world would not go backwards. Am I wrong?
@@tomellis487 For every step back, we must take at least two (or more) steps forward!
To quote Bob Marley, "Don't give up the fight!!!"
What a beautiful version of her own song! Her voice sounds better than ever! One of my heroes when I was a teenager.❣
I love Melanie's singing so much that I named my daughter Melanie after her. I love all her songs especially Lay Down. Ty Melanie.
❤
✨💖✨
Wow, this is such a great rendition. Love you Melanie. RIPower beautiful soul
I stayed inside in April 2020 and played every one of these records, the ones released before CDs. "We all had caught the same disease".
And then she lit a fire in the soul who never knew he had a friend. Many many thanks for such beautiful music for over 50 years. ✌&❤ to you and yours.
You have uplifted my life since I first heard this in 1970. Thank you and much love!
More beautiful now than it was way back when. Maybe we need it now more than we did then.
Thank you!!!!
There needs to be a well done and respectful biography on Melanie, her journey and her family. A treat that would be.
R.I.P Melanie. Your music will live on.
Makes me emotional everytime I hear Melanie perform this....she reminds me of Stevie Nicks vocally here.
I believe that this song is one of the most powerful songs I’ve ever heard! 🙏
This woman voice is as powerful in 91 as 70, a one in a generation voice
A real anthem, there are no other words for this magnificent song that our generation (°1955) knows by heart.... Thanks
Thank You dear Melanie. Love and blessings to your soul.
First heard this in 1970…
Fell in love with Melanie like most did….
In 1996 got to play it in my band in Australia because Max Sharam had a hit with it…..
Your voice and this song will resonate forevermore!

Such an honest and sweet soul. And that Voice!.
A majestic voice that’s moved me for so many years now. Such grace and beauty.
ICONIC! Such a sweet beautiful woman with such a beautiful powerful & unique voice ( not to mention Edwin Hawkins Singers). Captivating.
This is the very song that began my devoted fan's love of dear Melanie. There is, indeed, something very sweet and beautifully intoxicating about this attractive lady when she sings her haunting lyrics! I have loved her since 1971! It continues these many years later.
One of my fav Woodstock songs.. Great to see Melanie sing this.. again.. Hope You are doin ok Mel... Peace and Love..
Honestly blown away. Just listened to about 6 different versions of this song by Melanie and she never fails to move us. Beautiful song, inspiring performer.

I knew your daughter Jeordie, met her years ago in Tempe, Arizona! She jammed at my house once on a live show I put out on the internet back in 2009 or 2010. Very talented and extremely nice young lady! Always was a fan of yours Melody, I was a kid but enjoyed your music my older sister would play your music. Love & Peace to everyone!
I am watching from Suriname 🇸🇷 somewhere in South America.
Another great talent from Queens NYC.
Love Melanie's vocals in this version.
RIP Melanie. I love all your music. You will be remembered!
I will always remember your aunt Jeannie I, playing your songs over and over again in her living room. She had gotten everyone going.
so beautiful and the voice with that timber in it. Sends chills up and down my spine everytime I hear it
I STILL get goosebumps when I hear this song. It never fails to rake me back to a time of fun, being carefree, and simplicity.
What an inspired performance. I could feel the energy from the crowd to Melanie and back. Beautiful.
This is my 2nd favorite song of all my condolences to you Melanie and your family, I like this song with you and the Edwin Hawkin Singers that was so beautiful
I had the chance to see the beautiful Melanie Safka live one saturday evening in 1977 unfortunately her show coincided with a concert by my favourite artist Bob Dylan I thought that she would return again but sadly she did not. I still regret it to this day...
Love her - always have. Seen her a few times and she genuinely just wants to sing and make people happy...not enough Melanies in this world.
I remember the song from when I was a child. I was born in 62 so much too young to attend Woodstock when it was a thing. This song was played often in our house. Always loved it.
Such a powerful song, such a beautiful lady! Together you get Melanie Safka! Just Beautiful!
We listened to this song many times on the VW van drive to DC for the protests the weekend after Kent State. This song will forever freeze the memory of that weekend, of that time. 😎✌❤️🎶
No, you couldn't have just "listened"- if two or more people are together and hear this song, a singalong must ensue - heck, I've had no choice but to chime in even in moments companionless (although there's some question if I really have alone time -- what with both me and I in our head) ... :¬) ... and BTW, Kent State protests - good for you, right on!
What a phenominal woman. So talented and a very nice person. RIP dear lady you will be missed by us all xxxx
Only Melanie can do this great song justice.
My parents first played this record when I was 6 years old. 40 years later, I'm still listening to you. And you still sound amazing!! Thank you Melanie!!

Fabulosa MI Melanie!!!
Way down the road from 1970 Melanie and the song stand up and sound outstanding.
wonderful !!!! still good to hear these songs of the good times way backl. we need this feeling back again. love and peace on earth, where have they gone? now there is only fear, hate and resentment between the people. please let the old values come back again.
Truly, peacefully haunting. Very powerful. Thank you Melanie. 🪷✌️🪷
Was a big fan of Melanie and caught a live performance in NYC years ago at the Lone Star Cafe. Happy that this generation can experience her through these apps. Explore her music a little more. There are a lot of hidden gems to find.
Unbelievably Great. She's with the God that made her. Thank you, Father for her life and all that she gave us!!
Incredible version...love this song
I grew up listening to Melanie and I have to say her voice has only improved with age absolutely brilliant.
